Mobile Edge Premium Techstyle 2.0, 16-Inch PC/17-Inch Mac

Mobile Edge Premium Techstyle 2.0, 16-Inch PC/17-Inch MacIf you don't carry much more than your laptop, charger, a magazine, and a couple of pens, then consider this bag.

I owned one of the excellent first-generation Techstyles, and this is noticeably wider and taller than the original. I can understand the need to accommodate the larger screen laptops available these days, but it is 1.5" taller and 2.5" wider than my 15" MacBook Pro, and Mobile Edge doesn't offer a smaller version.

It is still a slim case so you can't really put an apple into it and zip it up. Because it is a semi-rigid construction (woven nylon on a flexible shell), it has a tendency to fall over on its own, and so I strap my laptop in all the time. The entire interior of the laptop side is fuzzy to allow you to velcro the accessory zipper pouch wherever you like. However, the velcro of the laptop strap also sticks aggressively to the interior, making it a small but daily pain.

The styling is restrained and its slim, single-panel exterior looks less geeky than laptop bags with multiple exterior pouches. The white piping against black may appeal to some, but to me it comes across as a little overdone, not to mention accentuating the bag's proportions which I think is already a little too 'HDTV'. I don't use the shoulder strap, so I appreciate the excellent molded carry handle.

My last Techstyle lasted almost 5 years before the fabric from the accordion got caught in the zipper and caused it to jam. With a seemingly improved zipper, I expect this to last at least as long.
