I was very excited to get this bag. It looks cute and shipped QUICK. But as soon as I opened the box, it smelled SO BAD, I nearly gagged. I don't really know how to describe it. It must be from the lining, which is a super soft tan velvety material. It's a pungent, plasticky, factory smell. I Febreeze'd it and sprayed perfumes on it, but it barely masked the stink. So I hand washed it with regular laundry detergent and rinsed it out very well but it still smelled. I finally gave up trying to wash the smell and now it's hanging outside in the wintry cold air, which will hopefully take the smell away. I'm going to hang out outside for a couple of days and update this review if I ever get the smell out!

My sister ordered the same one in PINK and it did not smell at all! The inside was pink instead of tan, so it must have been the fabric inside. She lucked out with that one...

[EDIT] Tried soaking it in vinegar and sprinkling baking soda, after leaving it outside for 24 hours, which took MOST of the smell out but not all of it. There's still a hint of it. I'm going to let it dry and put some dryer sheets in it.

My previous backpack started ripping at the seems so I needed a new one. I really liked the style of this one and fell in love with it. What surprised me was the fact that the brown straps are actually attached with metal buttons, at first I though I broke it :p.

But if you are in need of a heavy duty backpack, I would not recommend this product. At max, this backpack only one 3 inch binder, a folder and a spiral. In my previous backpack, I held 2x more stuff. But that is the price of beauty.

This bag is a deep purple color and it looks great with the brown straps. The inside is a soft felt-ish material. The pouch isn't very padded, but it's still very useful. I'm very happy with this product and would recommend this to any high school or college student. However, if you are in a very advanced school which requires many textbooks to be carried around, folders, spirals, a laptop, etc, I would suggest another backpack.
