High Sierra Long Trail 90 Suspension Pack

So I just got done living out of this bag for a month. It is excellent for the following reasons:

1) It fits soo much stuff.

2) It is highly adjustable to fit most backs.

3) It can tighten down when not filled.

4) I feel that was very well thought-out, with lots of options.

5) There are something like a dozen individual pockets and compartments.

6) IT COST ONE-THIRD THE PRICE OF THE OTHER PACKS I WAS CONSIDERING!

**Only thing to keep in mind with this pack is that it is designed for larger people! I wear size 36 shorts, and I could barely tighten the hip strap down enough. That means if you regularly wear size 34 or smaller...unfortunately this pack is not for you.**

I'm 6'4" and about 290lbs, not very fit, but that's why I'm hiking. Anyway, it's a great pack and it fits me well. The waist belt won't close tighter than about 36", unfortunately it's not a problem for me.

The pack can hold a good deal of weight comfortably, which is good since I tend to err on the side of carrying too much. There is a nice rain cover that is attached under the pack which allows you to keep your load dry. There is a hydration sleeve, but it's huge, it has one hook so it's made for camelbak style single hanging point bladders, not the kind with two hanging holes.

If you are a small person don't buy this. If you are an ultra lite hiker or minimalist this isn't the pack for you, it's heavy, above 6lbs when empty.

i have used this pack twice now for long hikes and overnight camping out in the colorado rockies. my girlfriend got the explorer 55 and fits her perfect, so being 6'5" i went with the larger pack. her pack fits me and the long trail 90 fits me too. the 90 has more pockets on the outside than the 55, and holds a ton more stuff, which makes it a lot heavier. i haven't used the water reservoir pocket yet except to put my flashlight in, not sure if all reservoirs will fit or not. had a sqeaking issue, but then just kept readjusting it while hiking and it went away. the zippers seem strong so far and the material is surprisingly stronger than it looks. both of the packs are super adjustable, so i think it really must come down to how much can you haul and how much do you WANT to haul. you can pretty much take the whole campsite in the 90, but it will weigh as much as the mountain youre hiking...

I bought this pack back in June to use in the mountains of CO. I purchased it to do some overnight backpacking excursions, and it has done quite well. I bring a lot of gear, and the pack has been big enough...so far. I do see potential issues with long trips, say over 3 or 4 nights or so. I have not stayed out that long yet, and can't truly speak to that. I am 6' 5" tall, and about 250 lbs, so the larger size was welcome, and the main reason for buying it. My size brings up another factor that I had not thought of, until recently. If you are a big person, like me, then guess what....all of your gear is bigger too. I use a Big Agnes -20 degree bag, and it takes over half of the space in the main compartment. It will flat not fit in the intended bag compartment, at all. I even have it in a nice 2 way compression bag, and it is still pretty large, compared to the size of a normal sized person's bag. I can say this, I carry a good amount of weight, around 60 lbs or so, and this pack does very well!! When carrying heavier loads, the shoulder strap buckles will slip a little, and require periodic adjustment. I have not figured out if this was because I'm trying to keep them too tight, or what, but either way, I wanted to bring it up.

Stats: 6'2", 175 lbs, 30 inch waist

I was hesitant at getting this at first because of all the reviews claiming it wouldn't fit those with anything less than a 36 inch waist but I really needed a bigger pack to lug around my Teton XXL sleeping bag. Now I don't know if the hip belt design has changed or if the other reviewers have a misunderstanding on where the hip belt is supposed to sit. The pack I ordered, however, definitely cinches down centered on my hip bones/iliac crest with room to tighten it down even more on someone thinner.

This pack isn't much wider than a smaller 75 liter pack. My torso is still wider than the pack itself. If I step in front of a mirror I cannot see the sides of the pack. At 6'2" the max height setting on this bag is still too tall for me and being of Mongolian descent I'm nearly all torso. So unless you're an extreme outlier in height this pack will do the trick.

The sleeping bag compartment is nearly ideal. It doesn't fit my XXL without opening the compartment top but since its size is absurd that was expected. It does allow for bottom loading however, a big plus, instead of having to try and squeeze it through the top. Anything smaller than this:

will almost certainly fit within the independent compartment.

Straps, zippers, and parts are all solid, the zipper are especially hefty. Bladder reservoir is enormous, might even be too big. It could easily fit a 6+ liter bladder. Comes with all the standard outside attachment hooks and holds for exterior gear.

This pack is definitely for those who hate to leave anything behind, need to carry as much booze and food as physically possible, or just have weaker friends. Highly recommended.
