The Pygmy Falcon-II Backpack is great for day hikes and even minimalist overnight camping where water will not be an issue. It holds approximately 1400 cubic inches of gear which should be plenty for a day hike. With a thin profile you will be able to trail blaze through bush with no problem. The "Y" compression strap helps to keep everything in place.
Side Pouches
The side pockets will each hold a 32 oz. Nalgene bottle. If water is going to be an issue this pack may not be your first option since it is not very compatible for a hydration system. But you do have options...if water is an issue you can always attach one or two Maxpedition Mini Rollypoly Folding Dump Pouches which will each hold a 32 oz. Nalgene bottle. You have just doubled your water capability. The modularity offers many configurations depending on your needs.
Shoulder Straps
The shoulder straps are well padded and capable of attaching a 4" or 5" flashlight sheath and a single sheath for a multi-tool. These add ons are also available from Maxpedition and are well worth the price. It comes with a chest strap for added comfort.
Main Compartment
The main compartment is a nice size and opens with two zippers in a clam shell fashion allowing you to completely open the pack to get what you need as opposed to taking out all of your gear to find the needed item. The main compartment is large enough to hold a first aid kit, pocket rocket with fuel, food, extra socks, a light jacket and more.
Front Pouch and Slip Pocket
The front pouch will hold a lot of your smaller gear and the slip pocket will hold thin items such as a map, compass, fleece hat, headlamp, etc.
Maxpedition products are designed for hard use, durability and a long product life. Many of the other larger companies cannot and do not match the quality of Maxpedition. I highly recommend the Maxpedition Pygmy Falcon-II Backpack.

I use this bag everyday to work or wherever I go. Had sewn on some cool patches and it's a pretty rugged bag. Been using it for over a year straight and it still has no fray!Read Best Reviews of Maxpedition PYGMY FALCON-II Backpack - Black Here
This one is well designed and well made. No waist belt, but that's not really needed for something this size or for something that you're putting on and taking off frequently in the course of a day. Also great for carry-on or in place of suitcase for short trips. About the smallest high-quality pack I've found.Unfortunately, my first Amazon review is not a positive one. I've had this bag for only five months and already it has torn near the top handle at a stress point. I contacted Maxpedition "customer service" and was told that I had to ship the bag back to them with insurance at my expense. Then, after one month minimum, they would determine if they would cover the tear, or if I'd have to pay for them to fix it. So much for lifetime warranty on defects. It felt like an insurance company trying their best to deny a claim. I've dealt with companies who will simply ship a new one and have you return the old on in the box provided. That's the last Maxpedition product I waste my money on.i have never put so much money into a pack to carry as an EDC but i had to almost every pack that i got had some problem with shoulder straps. this one is just right and the molle straps help out with other molle pouches i have. some how same stuff inside of it as my other packs but yet this one does not weigh that much. very happy with it and thinking of buying falcon II and buying from the seller i got this one from it was delivered fast.
