I wouldn't call this an anti-theft strap; it is more of a delayed theft strap. If someone tries to take your purse or bag, they will not be able to grab it and run. They will be a bit delayed. It's basically a nylon strap with a plastic latch. The lock is just a simple notched area that has to line up for the latch to open. Not a difficult thing to do, but if someone hasn't seen one of these before, they may leave the bag and look for one that is less secure.

I will be using this on my trip to Italy for when I'm riding on trains or sitting in cafes. I'll follow up after my trip to report on the real world usability of this strap.
