DAKINE Sequence Photo Pack

I recently upgraded to this pack from a LowePro Sling pack -since I wanted to carry a tripod and a lunch/jacket etc for day hikes with my camera and lenses. This pack is very nice. It fits well, is able to carry a tripod without too much hassle, has lots of pockets and is laid out well. To access the padded camera back you enter the pack through the back panel access. This is nice when you are in snow or other elements where you can place the pack on its frontside and then carefully get to your camera gear. It takes a little bit to get used to if you have been using conventional style packs, like top loaders. A great feature of this pack is the removable padded camera compartment -so if you only need to carry your camera stuff in town, without needing a full on day pack, then this works great. I have had good experiences with Dakine packs for skiing and mountaineering, and happy to see the same quality on this photo pack. This backpack is big, sturdy, and well-designed. It has more than enough room for my d90, 18-105, 50, fish, flash, and everything else i need. there are a ton of small pockets everywhere which keeps it organized and easy to grab at the go. it also comes with a rain cover which is awesome if you are going to be using it in harsh weather conditions and the straps are padded and super comfy for long treks. the internal block is also nice if you dont want to lug around a huge backpack, and the straps on the front can also extend to carry a tripod or even a snowboard. the rear access is really cool because no one can get at it but you, and the zippers are really good quality. my only complaints are that if i put my battery grip on my d90, it sticks up a bit and i can kind of feel it digging into my back (due to the rear access). it is kind of a bummer that i cant leave it on all the time, but i would wonder how a d3 or something would feel where it is permanent. the other thing is the straps can sometimes tend to loosen when you are putting the backpack on a certain way, but you can just tie them off and it wont be a problem. still, these werent enough for me to give it 4 stars because this pack rocks! i would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a sturdy photo backpack, as long as the camera doesnt have a built in grip.

I got this bag for my husband, who collects bags the way a woman collects shoes. He loves it. He fits everything he needs in this bag--camera, lens, cords, video camera, etc. It is a little hard to get into, which is good for security reasons, bad if your camera is packed when something memorable happens. This bag is meant for someone who needs to carry a lot of stuff all in one sporty pack. Shopped other bags and they were all twice as much.

My two problems with this bag is all the straps are extremely long. I had to trim back several. The side pockets could be slighty larger too to accommodate water bottles.

I mainly bought this because DAKINE is not synonymous with "expensive camera gear in here".

I've packed this full with {600d, 70-200f2.8, 24-105f4, 50f1.4, 18-200, flashes, laptop, multioutlet adapter, etc...} it was heavy! but proved to be durable during a week long trip. I like the straps they provide to compress the load.

I don't think it's the most comfortable bag (I think a frame of some sort would help but would raise the cost considerably), but for a midsize (fairly low cost) pack it's great...
