Philadelphia isn't really known for being particularly windy, stormy or otherwise climatically interesting pretty much your standard east coast seasonal changes, minus anything extreme happening along the shoreline or in the big hurricane-prone apple. Nevertheless, the ShedRain Windjammer (which replaced my ShedRain Gellas broken by the wind) barely survived a quarter of the year in the storms of brotherly love.

The twelve total blocks I walk each day between the train and the office were apparently too much for this tragically clever little auto-open and closer. The tines are now bent and the canopy dramatically loosened by the nowhere-near-gale-force winds of Philly-town, having been flipped inside out multiple times by the stormy winter season's utterly non-epic thrashing.

The point is, if you're looking for an umbrella to keep you dry when you're standing in the shower, this one might pass muster. For long-lasting use in actual outdoor storms, though, I advise you look elsewhere.

We bought five of these while we were in Boston 4 years ago. They standup in strong wind and we finally had one of the supports bend but I straitened it out and it still works great. Been to New York several times and Scotland in bad storms and they still are great. I was happy to find them on amazon and bought a couple replacements we lost due to a bad judgement on our part. Oh, never leave your umbrella at the front of a restaurant in the umbrella can because others will take yours and leave you a crappy ten dollar one.

I got the ShedRain Windjammer umbrella to take with me to Europe. The umbrella is good but it's more weight than I wanted to carry. I ended up not taking it with me. I used a mini tote umbrella instead that I picked up in the Walgreen's. The tote umbrella was exactly what I was looking for extremely light-weight and easy to put in my purse in case it rained.

I am sure I will get lots of use from the ShedRain when it is nice to have an umbrella and I can carry it. I was just worried about taking too much weight when planning to carry it daily.

The automatic open & close works well with no sticking. Holds up well in strong winds. I bought the blue because it's a tiny bit more eye-catching so hopefully I'll remember to take it with me out of the car or when I get off a train!

It opens and closes nicely. It is compact. But the first time I used it, the wind turned it inside out. I had a Totes for 20 years and never had that problem. I guess I should buy from experience and not online ratings.
