Buy DAKINE Men's Terminal Pack Now
After three years of steady school-style use and the occasional camping trip, this pack shows almost no sign of wear. The main zipper pulled away sometime around year two; the string of teeth separated entirely from the connecting fabric. A home fix might be doable, but would take more time than I'm willing to give.Luckily, the pack has such a deep compartment that I can leave the top flopping open in the breeze and never worry about losing my booty. And the multitudes of do-gooders who point out my bag's precarious lack of closure somewhat fortifies my faith in humanity. What a bonus! Thanks, Dakine!Back in 2007, I bought a Dakine Terminal which looks similar to the design of the current generation, but definitely different than the model presented here. I love its compartments, especially the thickly padded dedicated laptop pocket, the fan-out right side pocket, and the top sunglass pocket which I actually use mainly to store pens. However I do have one significant gripe to share: its zippers. The main compartment zippers started to come apart at the seams after 2-3 years of college use. Since my first repair of it back in 2009-10, I've had to sew the zipper back into the fabric 7 times. From what I can tell, it seems like the track of the zipper slider constantly runs over the threads which holds the zipper to the fabric of the pack. The constant back and forth sliding must wear out the threads leading to the separation of the zipper from the fabric. Feel free to look at the images to see what I'm referring to: (the blue thread is from my first repair, subsequent repairs were done in black thread). I decided to review today b/c after 1.5 yrs of grad school usage, a different compartment's zipper started deteriorating and the zipper slider actually popped out--and I got angry. Other than this pain in the butt of repairing the zipper, this is a well-designed pack, and I would buy another one in a heartbeat if Dakine changed its zipper manufacturer. Hell, the fact I've repaired it so many times should be a testament to how much I like the pack to not give up using it.I've owned this pack for a few years now and couldn't see myself purchasing anything else. Unfortunately, I overstuffed the pack and had to leave it slightly open. My very helpful friend took this the wrong way and with one great heave tried to zip it shut. This broke the zipper and the repair price is pretty high :/.
