This backpack is quite basic and functional, but it does not have a locking mechanism per se. All closures lock onto each other, but can be easily un-clipped by anyone. Thieves looking to steal valuables will have to perform extra steps, so perhaps that is a deterrent in itself, but don't look for any lock to arrive with your backpack. That said, it performs well, holds up well, is not a fashion statement, but can hold all the basic necessities. I wouldn't risk wearing it on my back though, especially in the crowd.
