iHome Smart Pack: 15 inch Laptop Backpack for Mac, Black

iHome Smart Pack: 15 inch Laptop Backpack for Mac, BlackI think this is ok....Just ok, nothing spectacular. My issues with the item has to do with the zippers. The quality of the zippers is my only issue. I cannot pull on the zippers fast....they have to be closed slowly or risk having the teeth come apart. In one incident I had my laptop peeking out of the side because the teeth had come apart. Granted, I had it loaded down with an Ipad, headphones, Macbook Pro and all associated cables, so the pack was full, but that was why I purchased it.....It had separate compartments for each item. When I loaded it up, it had some weight to it, but even with it having all of the items stowed, I expect it not to have any issues. When it is loaded, I do worry about it. I gingerly open the zippers because I do not want for it to open.

For the price I paid, it is a good product. It would be a great product If I did not have to worry about the zipper situation.

Love the concept of the various compartments and very happy with the bag except for its construction. Zippers are low quality and seams have started tearing at the stitching. Wish someone else made an identical bag only slightly better workmanship.

I got this backpack as a gift for Christmas 2012 and I don't know if it was bought in store or off Amazon, but I originally saw the backpack at an office supply store and loved the idea of having padded pockets for my MacBook Pro and other Apple Devices. I was really excited to get this backpack because I did not have a sleeve or case on my MacBook and really needed a protected way to carry it around.

Initially the backpack was great, I felt my laptop was safe, protected and secure in the laptop slot. The pockets for the devices are a nice soft, sort of velvety material and overall the backpack feels very sturdy and durable. Carrying it around was nice, the straps are comfortable and the back is nicely padded.

The zippers however are not that great. The zippers seem louder than most other zippers I've had on backpacks, which is not a big deal, but was kind of annoying when I was in quiet classrooms or the library. The zipper for the iPad pocket no longer zips at all, so its always open and completely useless. The backpack is designed good in that in doesn't expose the zipper ends, but that also makes it impossible to fix the zipper with out taking out some of the stitching to fix the zipper or replace it. Also anytime you try to fill the backpack with anything it seems to put a lot of pressure on the zippers making it seem more prone to other zippers splitting.

The magnet on the iPhone holder, located on the straps also has moved, so the holder no longer stays shut.

Space wise the backpack is not designed to really carry much more than your the designated Apple devices. There is a pocket without the soft lining, but it really doesn't fit much of anything unless it is fairly skinny. I personally could do without the hardshell headphone compartment since I usually use the Apple headphones that Apple gives with their products. I never tried fitting any headphones in it, I just put items I didn't want to get damaged or items I wanted easy access to (like my keys).

This backpack has some really nice features for carrying around different Apple devices, but between the poor zippers, the lack of space for anything other than devices and the high price I would not recommend this backpack to anyone. Next time I'll probably just get a laptop carrying case and/or a nice backpack and keep all my device nicely cased.
