JanSport Air Cure Backpack

The short: Sure, it might last a long time, but that doesn't alleviate anyone in backpack hell (Well, it's not *that* bad, but it's uncomfortable).

The long:

I needed to replace my North Face Jester backpack after 4 years of use. I ride my motorcycle to school everyday, so I wanted something that would last more than 4 years. Perhaps I was asking for too much?

I looked into motorcycle specific backpacks, but they were pretty costly and were a pound or two heavier than your regular daypack. I liked the look of the Air Cure. It was simple and had a large volume capacity. Now, my gripes:

1) As it turns out, simple and blocky does not mean ergonomic. The pack just doesn't feel that great, even with it's narrow "S-shaped" straps, which I'm sure is a patented design. Broader straps distribute weight better -padding just reduces shock (or, could the springiness even aggravate it?)

2) It doesn't come with a middle clip to take the load off your back, but that was my mistake, I should have checked for that in the pictures. But in any case, it lends to the whole "simple but too simple" lack of ergonomic design.

3) It stores a lot. I mean, a lot. 2200ccs or something like that. 4 times my motorcycle's engine displacement. In any case, that doesn't help. With the "simple" block design, more stuff just makes the load feel even worse. Here's a function to describe the comfort of a backpack: Comfort(W,E)= W x E, where W = weight of your stuff, E = ergonomic design, where 0 is the best value. With a subpar design, more stuff feels like even more stuff.

Lesson learned you have to try the pack on with full weight before you purchase it. I would return this guy, but seeing as how I waited almost 2 weeks for it to arrive, I really don't want to deal with shipping. Oh, and as a final note, if I could rate shipping (separate from my product review), I would give it a 1-star. Perhaps they should take the fluff out of their shipping time and apply it to their shoulder straps.

Final note: I'm going to wear this around for a while and adjust my rating as necessary. Might be some redemption value if I get attached to it.

EDIT: After some use, I've noticed that the bag will tend to fatigue your shoulders at high loads because it's so top-heavy, which, rather than just pulling down on your shoulders, also pulls back on your shoulders.

I never used a JanSport, always used whatever backpack was cheap or on sale. After seeing our son go through several backpacks, decided to try a JanSport. I will not buy another brand. The JanSport has lasted so much longer, he has filled it to the max, all the folders, books, weight has barely made any tear or damage on this backpack. Plus, it's a large bonus that it has a lifetime warranty so we have no worries. As the date of this review, the backpack has been through 3/4 of a school year. We are usually at our 2nd to 3rd backpack at this time. Highly recommended, give JanSport a try.

My son needed a backpack big enough to carry his entire locker around all day. I researched bag sizes and found this one that was the biggest on the market. A simple and capacious backpack with no unnecessary pockets.

It has two big compartments, that can contain a lot, with no other pockets inside, except one, that suits for 15.6" notebook. Other three medium pockets are outside and it`s not very well, cause there are small things you want to put inside for more safety.

I like big zipper sliders and that they can be hidden under the material.

The backpack seems smaller, than i thought; it looks not very big (and i prefer it looks a little bigger, cause i`m a tall person). The straps are really narrow and small, not very comfortable to my mind. Also the shoulder straps by default make the backpack hanging too high, almost near neck.
