I recently bought this bag again (this time in black) almost 8 years after my first one to use as a bike-commuting bag here in L.A. The new version seems exactly the same except the plastic closure system has been changed. I definitely liked the old clasp much better as it was easier to quickly open and close w/ one hand without looking at it. The new one is very picky--it just feels weird and counter-intuitive--and I have to use both hands to snap it shut (I guess I just need practice.)
Overall, it's a very sturdy, minimal-looking, quality bag that is not so big that it makes you look like an over-loaded bike messenger or so small that it makes you look like you're wearing a purse or a tourist's passport satchel. I don't recommend using it to cart around a laptop (a netbook or ipad, maybe) but it will definitely fit all your daily urban essentials and look good doing it.I found this bag in my wifes closet while looking for a bag for my laptop. This bag turned out to be perfect! It fits my alienware m11x (11 inch laptop), full sized mouse, power supply, 500gb external HDD, and my full sized headphones (break into 3 parts)
I can keep a small notebook or magazine in the back pouch behind the laptop.

This is my second Manhattan Portage bag. I wanted to downsize from my gigantic 17" laptop bag, so I ordered this small DJ bag. My old bag was of exceptional quality, I've used it on my commute everyday for the last 4 years and it still looks new. My new bag appears to be just as well made. The small DJ bag is only about 1/3 the size of my old bag, so I have to limit what I'm carrying, of course that was the point of buying a smaller bag. It is still large enough for a lunch, a book, my 10" tablet, and an umbrella, and I still have some room left over. Due to the high quality of the materials and construction, I expect this bag will last at least as long as my old one.Read Best Reviews of Manhattan Portage Small DJ Bag Here
I bought this bag for my husband to use for carrying comic books. It's the perfect size for 25-30 bagged and boarded comics or a few "Essentials" collections. He used at at NYCC with great success as he carried his sketchbook, some comics to be signed, some swag, plus his wallet & phone. It is sturdy and doesn't have excess pockets to cause lumps or bending.Want Manhattan Portage Small DJ Bag Discount?
I looked a long time to find this. I don't like most current bags which have sometimes ten and more padded pockets that I'll never use. The pockets add material, and that means weight. All I need is a large main compartment for lunch and a thin compartment for papers. This bag has one main, one thin zippered, and one thin unzippered compartment. The bag is light, practical, and it looks stylish too.For people who like and use many little zippered and velcroed pockets this bag will be on the minimalist side, but that's exactly what I enjoy about it.
