So what's not to like? Well, there are two things to keep in mind if you're looking at this backpack. First, the primary design consideration was to minimize bulk and weight. As such, the shoulder straps are unpadded, basic nylon, there's no waist strap, and the fabric is very thin and gossamer-like. This is not a backpack for serious outdoor use or for carrying heavy loads. Second (and this is the significant flaw), the top of the bag needs a drawstring with a cord lock. Since the backpack has very little structure or stiffness on its own, the top of the bag gapes open under partial loads. Yes, the opening is covered by the main flap but this pack would be a lot better if Timbuk2 provided a way to close the top securely.
Bottom line: with a drawstring, the Hidden Swig Backpack would be a 4-star product. I do like its extreme compactness and light weight. So, 3-stars for the current design.I needed a light weight "slack pack" and this will fill the bill ... plus doubling as a "stuff sack". But light weight comes at a high price. It comes in handy as a backup bag when travelling. I'm not sure how much weight it can carry, though.
