Sumo ME-SUMO88501 15-Inch Nylon Sleeve (Black)

Sumo ME-SUMO88501 15-Inch Nylon SleeveI had been looking for a sleeve to protect my laptop while it was in my messenger bag. I didn't want a new bag, because I liked the one I had, but all the sleeves I saw were kind of ugly and didn't seem A) very durable or B) very well made.

I thought I'd give the Sumo sleeve a try, although I was worried that it might be a bit small for my laptop, which is a Dell. But it arrived today, five days earlier than the estimate, and it's great.

Very sturdy and well made, and really well padded, so I have no worries about putting it into my bag with my cords and other paraphernalia. Plus it's kind of unique looking, which I like.

I think the price is very good, as I shopped around for quite awhile before buying, and found this to be the most bang for the buck.

I highly recommend Sumo to anyone that wants a unique and dependable solution to laptop protection.

I bought this for my 15" Al Powerbook. It fits well and is great when I need to take it somewhere out of the house. I could put it in my briefcase, but I'm afraid it will get scratched. With the sleeve, I can put it in my packpack or any other bag. This thing is great even for just an easy trip to a friends house...no need to worry if something happens on the way...it's protected for the most part with the sleeve.

I wanted laptop sleeve, but didn't want a boring color like black. This one is pricey for a laptop sleeve, but it is exactly what I wanted. I am giving 4 stars only because of the high price. The sleeve has no hardware, so nothing will scratch the machine. It is nicely padded, black corduroy inside, and a velcro closure on the outside flap. It fits my 15" Dell D610 laptop perfectly.

I bought this sleeve for my Dell Inspiron e1405 and it is a perfect fit with a little room for my headphones. The exterior is a bright pink tough nylon and the padding is pretty thick, while it could be a little better. It seems durable enough. The interior is cute, with soft black corduroy and little printed sumos. My computer thankfully doesn't run warm, but if yours does, then this sleeve also acts as a good pad to protect you from the heat. All in all, I love this notebook sleeve. It is a great looking and functional sleeve, especially for those of you who don't want the boring old black notebook sleeve. Great buy!

I got this for my 15 inch mac book pro. I like the look and feel of the sleeve a lot, and it is very well constructed. However, I think the size mentioned is a bit misleading. it is a bit too snug for my laptop. It is a quarter inch too small in my opinion.

AmeriLeather Cosmopolitan Leather Tote

AmeriLeather Cosmopolitan Leather ToteI needed a bag to carry a computer in that would serve as a handbag as well. This bag was as advertised. I have adapted it for use as a handbag also. Good quality.

Love the bag and the side zipper compartment with sliding holders for a palm PDA and a phone or camera the bag is styles and comfortable for me. I don't have to worry about the straps sliding off. As soon as I can I will probably buy another one. Five stars all the way.

The type of leather was different than I had perceived it to be from the picture but it's still a good bag and I like it.

The design of this bag is fabulous. I love the front pocket, it's like having a separate bag. It looks sturdy, the inside seems sturdy too, the size is just right, the big compartment is, well, big.

BUT

The thing smells! My 4 year-old son decreed after holding my new bag for 5 minutes. " Mom, it smells like a farm." And he is right. I don't know what they used and what I can do to get rid of that smell. I kept the thing out in the cold, inside in the heat, sprayed Chanel perfume inside. Nothing works. My office reeks like I have a cow hidden in there. It's quite embarrassing, really. I'd be tempted to return it but the price was great and I really like the design and functionality. What to do about the stench???

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my mother, and I expected the bag to be made of leather, as the description says "cowhide leather."

It feels like cheap plastic leather, there is no way that this bag is made of genuine leather.

It does, however, have all the pockets described and is the perfect size for a school bag.... I just wish I would have know it would feel so cheap in real life.

Built E-BPL-WGB Laptop Back Pack Large (Wood Grain Black)

Built E-BPL-WGB Laptop Back Pack LargeIt's an interesting backpack. I wanted one to alleviate the shoulder pain I was getting from my purse. This is NOT the bag for that. It's not a handbag replacement. However, it IS a great bag for textbooks and especially for a laptop. It's well padded and well constructed. It's also far roomier than it looks, yet it stays very flat against your back. It's good looking enough to take to work and/or meet with a client. Since it does lay so flat, I never felt like a large-backed turtle and I never had to remove it when I was walking though narrow bus isles or on subway when it was packed for rush hour.

It has a lot of pockets where you can place a full sized mouse, powercord, some flash drives and of course your laptop and textbooks. The straps are comfortable and evenly distribute the weight so your shoulders and back feel fine after even though you might have been carrying a lot of weight. I would not recommend this if you want to use it for a 17" laptop AND textbooks. If you just put in the laptop, you can carry a 17".

Overall, I would recommend this to anyone who wants a professional, stylish, and COMFORTABLE laptop backpack. You can get a lot into it and still look sharp. Great look for men or women.

My Mac G4 fits very well, with a bit of space to spare, and there is a pocket for cords and stuff. There is also a practical pocket on the band, it is a pity it is so small. I find this the most comfortable laptop backpack I own, it doesnt weigh much in itself so it is just the weight of your laptop, and on my the laptop sits right in the small of my back so I can walk 30' back and from my home to my office, no problem. The design is a bit flashy, brown with gray that has a lot of light blue in it. I dont think I'd use products by other makers now that I've found this one.

I was excited when I saw this backpack and purchased it. Then, I got very disappointed when I tried to fit in my toshiba 17" notebook and could not close the zipper. The other point I did not like was the fact that I could not get it to set comfortably on my back even when it was completely empty. It was extremely tight on my shoulders and arm pits. Now imagine if it contained a laptop. I received the product and returned it 2 days later. To be fair, I practiced sports for almost my whole life and am not ordinarily built so this is my experience, yours may be different and better.

The back pack is great, but unfortunately it doesn't fit my 17in+ laptop. That's entirely my fault, it clearly states it will fit a 17. I tried my hardest to squeeze it in, I could use the pack to carry it with the zipper open. I think it would be a lot more comfortable to wear with a much smaller laptop, the larger one was stiff and didn't sit low enough in the pack. It kind of made me feel like a turtle with a hard shell on my back. But the bag was a great price, so I'm going to keep it and use it for other things.

High Sierra Loop Backpack

High Sierra Loop BackpackDon't let the size fool you! The multiple compartments that give you plenty of room. It's easy to put on/take off especially since I ride the Metro so I'm not breaking my back trying to get it off.

It has adjustable straps so you can pretty much tailor it to your frame to make it as comfortable as possible.

The back pack also holds up well in rain; amazingly well!

I love the color too; it goes with pretty much everything :)

My only concern is that the zippers are super accessible and that can be an issue especially in packed areas such as the Metro. I typically remove it and can hold it from the upper handle ...sort of like a brief case until I'm out of "sticky fingers" way :)

All in all, GREAT PRODUCT!!!!!! I LOVE IT!

My wife was looking for a diaper bag and couldn't find a bag pack style she liked. She decided to buy three different back packs and try them instead. Good Idea! We liked this one the most because it was a small frame, good for a smaller person, like a woman or young adult and it had a lot of storage for the size. The backpack has a lot of storage for the size and we easily fit TWO of all the baby stuff we need to go out for the day. I have carried it a couple of times and I like it a lot. I would recommend it for a school back pack, day pack for hiking or a Diaper bag :).

Buy High Sierra Loop Backpack Now

Six months after I bought the High Sierra Loop Backpack, one of the shoulder straps started ripping apart at the seam, and the zipper to the front pocket had broken off (the backpack was gently used). I think the high ratings for this backpack may be due to early user experiences. This backpack (my copy of it at least) isn't very durable. Note, too, that I bought the backpack from Amazon direct, NOT from a third party seller.

I've had JanSport backpacks that have held up to *years* of heavy use. If you're looking for something more durable, you might want to spend a little more to get a JanSport or a The North Face backpack (both of which are renowned for their quality and durability).

You may, however, opt to buy this backpack anyway since this backpack has received mostly positive reviews and my experience may be an isolated instance. Here are the specifications to help you decide whether this backpack is right for you:

Compartments

------------

● 2 Side Pockets

Each of the two side pockets has an elastic band and see-through mesh netting. Each pocket is an ideal place for putting a water bottle, a pair of hiking poles, or even a tripod. I use one of the pockets for a camera tripod and the other for a water bottle when I'm out shooting.

● 3 zippered compartments

There are 3 other zippered compartments besides the main zippered compartment.

1. The largest of the compartments (located in front of the backpack) has lots of pockets for putting your calculator, cell phone, stationery, etc. It has plenty of room; it will fit 3 or 4 small paperback books, just to give you a rough idea of its size. There's a hook for attaching your keychain too.

2. The topmost compartment has an opening for threading the wire of a pair of headphones/earphones through so you can listen to music while the MP3 player is safely stowed away in the compartment.

● Water-Resistant Lining

The insides are lined with nylon, which makes backpack water-resistant.

o NO Hydration Compartment

The backpack is NOT hydration compatible (i.e. you can't use it with a hydration bladder -without modification at least). There is no pocket to hold a hydration bladder, and no outlet for the tube from the hydration bladder. I did modify the backpack by cutting a small hole in the pocket of the topmost compartment so I can thread a hydration tube through the hole, and then through the opening (meant originally for the wire of a pair of headphones/earphones). Still, the lack of a pocket means the hydration bladder can slump over, which will interfere with the flow of water from the bladder to the tube.

Size

----

● The High Sierra site lists the size as follows:

Size: 19.5" x 14.5" x 8.250"

Capacity: 1949 cubic inches

It's a bit bigger than the smallest backpacks but not too big. Personally, the size of this backpack suits me *perfectly*. I wanted a backpack with plenty of room to carry the essentials but not one that is over-sized and clumsy.

Straps

------

● Shoulder Straps

The shoulder straps are very comfortable even with a heavy/fully-loaded backpack. It has an elastic pocket for putting your cell phone so you always have your cell phone within easy reach.

● Bottom Straps

The bottom of the backpack has a pair of straps for strapping on additional equipment you need to bring along.

● Side Compression Straps

The side compression straps can be used in tandem with the side pockets to keep your stuff safely secured.

o NO Sternum Strap & Waist Strap

This backpack has NO sternum strap (also known as a chest strap) and NO waist strap. For full-on hiking, this backpack may not be the ideal choice. If you're hiking for long periods, you *need* to have a sternum strap for keeping the shoulder straps in a position on your shoulders most comfortable to you, and you *need* a waist strap to distribute some of the load from your shoulders to your waist.

---

The High Sierra Loop Backpack is a medium-sized backpack that has plenty of pockets. You can use it for school, camping, and light hiking, or as a general purpose daypack.

I bought my previous backpack from High Sierra almost 9 years ago. I used it every day to school, work, gym; it was practically a part of me. The strap finally started to break down so I bought this new backpack.

Well, this item does not compare to the previous one. I've had it for few weeks now and some areas are already showing weak spots. Flimsy fabric, poor quality stitching. I have put in some reinforcement stitches (luckily I have a sewing machine) to where the straps connect to the top of the backpack so I can carry my 13" laptop without worries. I'll keep it as a gym bag, and look for better quality daypack.

The only reason I gave it 3 instead of 2 stars is because I like the look of the bag.

I had purchased a very cheap backpack from Rite Aid, that didn't even have a brand name associated, and law school tore it to shreds in two weeks. Wish I could have gotten my money back! This backpack was not only a good price but an incredible value. Hasn't shown any signs of wear or tear and it's gotten a lot of use.

Osprey FlapJack Men's Backpack

Osprey FlapJack Men's BackpackMany points to love about this pack:

I'm a 5'4" medium-build woman, and it fits me well. I really get tired of the women's designs that are covered in flowers and such I need a pack that works for informal business circumstances, so I don't want to feel like a tween. That's why I chose the FlapJack over the FlapJill. I'm so happy to find that the sizing is a great fit! The pack is light and distributes weight very well the most comfortable commuter pack I've ever owned. Also, because the flap compresses the load, it feels less bulky and is easier to maneuver with than other, non-flap, packs of a similar size.

It's roomy! My 13.3" laptop in a neoprene case fits with room to spare in the padded laptop compartment. I always have that laptop with me, and so far I've combined it with:

a second large laptop, handbag filled with files & paperwork, totally full envelope-style file folder, small camera, phone, cords for everything, wallet, passports & tickets, cookies, scarf, glasses case, and other sundries.

my motorcycle half-helmet, water bottle, other sundries with plenty of room to spare.

a sizable load of groceries.

handbag filled with files & paperwork, shoebox-size plastic storage bin, several other small boxes, cords, other sundries this load was taller than the body of the bag, but the lid still strapped and held everything together over a bumpy ride.

Green interior looks sharp and makes it much easier to spot items in the bottom of the bag.

Straps are comfortable and adjusting them is easy.

Feels secure! I live in a city with tons of foot traffic and many areas where the crowds can be a little chaotic. I've had pickpocket attempts before with other bags where an outside pocket of a pack was opened up, or someone thrust their hand in my bag with an open top. The flap secured by straps is what sold me on trying this pack. The only pockets that are easily accessible to a passerby are the long pockets on the flap and on one side -I simply don't keep anything important there. All of the other interior pockets are safely tucked under the flap --when the straps are pulled tight, it would take some effort to get into any of those spots. I would certainly notice anyone trying to get into the bag. Riding on motorcycle taxis for most of my transport, I'm really glad to have a bag that I can wear comfortably on my back (not in front of me) and still feel that my belongings are safe.

Very few drawbacks:

The flap that keeps everything safely tucked away also makes it hard to have quick access to your belongings. The process to get something out from under the lid is more complex than with a traditional backpack. (But, as an anti-theft feature, this is still a plus in my book!) One solution, which I may try, is to purchase pouches that attach to the straps in front for quick access to phone, money, etc.

The pack is not waterproof -if you bump up to the next Osprey price point, you can get a similar style pack with a built-in rainfly. That was out of my budget. But this pack looks highly water-resistant, and I'll pack a backup rain cover during the rainy season.

One suggested improvement -It would be great to have a drawstring closure for the big interior space. While the flap does cover well, I would like the ability to make my belongings even more secure by compressing the top of the bag space when my load is light.

Overall, I am extremely happy with the pack and highly recommend it!!

This is the best pack ever made. It satisfies me everyday and I can all of my goodies in it.

Kiva Key Chain Tote

Kiva Key Chain Tote-Aqua GeoI really like this bag and I own four of them. This is a collapsible bag that folds down into a pocket about half the size of a fist. My wife and I keep them in our cars in case we buy something and want to use reusable bags. As a result, we almost never use disposable plastic bags anymore. For normal grocery shopping we use canvas bags but for quick shopping trips they are great!

The material is very thin but very strong. It has to be thin to fold-up very small. After years of use I have not teared or punctured a bag. I imagine this is possible if something sharp and poky were carried in it but most bags would have the same issue. (I haven't yet ripped them after many trips to Home Depot.) The handles are strong. The bag material is still high quality when comparing bags purchased years ago and now.

There is little form to the bag and zero padding since it is so thin. Folding it up is easy. Either stuff or fold it into the pocket and zip. After unfolding the bag it will have a wrinkled appearance like in the product picture.

I use the bags all of the time and plan to buy them for family for an eco-friendly gift. (I just wish Amazon carried them in black.)

I took this bag with me on a recent trip to Italy. I used it every day and found it really indispensable, so much so that I bought another when I came home. In Italy the grocery stores charge for nags, or give you a discount for bringing your own...so the bag paid for itself on my first trip!

It is small and the fabric is thin, as others have noted; but you would be surprised at how strong it is, and how much it holds.

When the bag is stowed in its' pocket it's around 1 1/2 x 3 inches, and weighs practically nothing. It is ideal for travel, when you find yourself carrying all kinds of things, and space and weight mean a lot more.

I know I will want to have one with me whenever I travel, or go to a farmers' market, or flea market...I can think of lots of occasions where it would be useful (which is why I want 2).

I actually received *two* bags in my package! I think they've changed the fabric: the tag inside mine says "100% polyester" I don't think that's the same as rip-stop nylon. The bag feels like it's made of heavy plastic. Maybe they have started using cheaper fabric, and doubled how many bags you get?

I agree with the other reviewers about the convenience of this tote. As long as you pay attention when you first unpack it, it's pretty easy to stash back in the bag.

Want Kiva Key Chain Tote Discount?

I started with the black one I purchased at Whole Foods in Seattle. Wow! What a wonderfully useful thing! Folded, it clips to my laptop bag, ready to handle any unexpected needs grocery trips, extra stuff to carry home from work, etc.

A couple of years later, I found 2 more on closeout at Bed Bath and Beyond. Snapped them both up. Now I have three which I often chain together and attach to my PC bag or whatever.

I will take no plane trip without them (who knows what Mom will insist I take home?). I won't go grocery shopping without them.

They have been more than useful at work when I have to tote a bunch of stuff from place A to B.

The only tricks (in my humble opinion) are these:

Trust in the force. These are 10x more durable than the thin fabric suggests. You won't believe what you can put in there.

Take a few minutes to practice the fold-up. The trick is to not get the fabric caught in the zipper. The first couple of times feels odd. Once you get the process nailed, it's super easy.

Every so often, I can't find one of my three. Panic ensues. OK, so it's just a bag. But WHAT a BAG!

To me these are a 'can't live without'...

Baby Sherpa Diaper Backpack - Black

Baby Sherpa Diaper Backpack - BlackWe have had this bag for over 3 years. It is used on almost a daily basis by one of us. We are now using it for both our 3 year old and a newborn. It is big enough to carry items for both, but it is still easy to transport as it is a backpack. One of the great things is that it is not too girly so dad has no problems carrying it.

We love the built in cooler feature our only minor complaint is after 3 years of almost daily use the inner silver lining on the cooler is starting to peel.

this is great, this our 4th diaper bag (we have a 16 month old and 1 on the way) and this is the best for sure. not too big and bulky like the regular tote style, you can sling it over one shoulder or two or a stroller. well balanced, LOVE the insulated lunch section and bottle holders, all the multi purpose pockets are great. we have plenty of room for two kids stuff in ours and its still not heavyvery durable too.

Buy Baby Sherpa Diaper Backpack - Black Now

We bought this diaper bag after being tired of searching for things in regular designer diaper bags. This backpack is perfect for everyday use and traveling on long trips. The insulated bottle pocket allows you to pack bottles, food, ice pack, etc and still have room for more. We are able to fit about 10 diapers plus a bag of wipes in the diaper section, as well as a couple of changes of clothes, blanket and some extra toys in the main compartment. The extra pockets on the side are great for traveling when you need to place Infant Tylenol, mylicon drops, thermometers..all of those little extras that typically get lost in a typical diaper bag. Its not overly big either and you can hang it right on the front of your stroller for easy access if you don't want to carry it around. It also fits in our basket on the bottom of our stroller, as well. Great buy..I will never use a regular diaper bag again.

Faulty zipper Before I even had the chance to use it, the zipper wasn't working properly. This seems to be a common issue in other reviews. I thought it might have been others overstuffing the bag, but the zipper design is poor with a weak hold and easy to mis-align. Had to return the item which is too bad because I liked other design aspects of the backpack all the compartments, hooks, and canvas material. Though, I did find it odd that the cooler/food compartment on the bottom of the bag had a hole (for ventilation or drainage, I suppose).

I ordered it thinking of a much smaller backpack and I am not happy at all with its size. Quality and material are good but the interior is not so well organized. Knowing its real size I would have stick to my Eagle Creek Hitch which is in my opinion a better backpack with a lower price.

MDR Store High End Women's Men's Canvas Casual Backpack Bag Men Girl Canvas Cloth Leisure Travel Ba

MDR Women's Men's Canvas Backpack Men Girl Canvas Cloth Leisure Travel Bag Couple Backpack Army Green and CoffeeThis was a great buy; it is my new favorite bag and I bring it with me everywhere I go.

I placed an order for this bag because the style of it caught my eye. I like how it looks on but if I don't tie shoulder straps around my chest the shoulder straps literally fall off my shoulders which doesn't look too cute. That is after I sewed it so the metal clasps were separated on the shoulder strap so the strap from the bottom didn't slip out of them, if I had not done this the bag would fall straight off my shoulders... But wait, there's more; The metal ring at the top of the bag, where the sides come together to close, ripped from the canvas so I had to sew the canvas to the ring in a loop type of fashion. So, to sum it up,,, The bag is either really cheaply made and it does not merit the price, or I received a defective one. DON'T BUY

Rosewill Backpack for 17.3-Inch Notebook Computer (RMBP-12001)

There is even room for a change of clothing, my ipad, and all the charging accessories! I was even able to stuff a roll of paper towels and there's still room to spare.

I would highly recommend this backpack for those who have to carry multiple items versus lugging around two bags or even three.

The quality is durable. The zippers are standard.

You cannot go wrong with this backpack! My wife told me I look like a teenage mutant ninja turtle, however... And I am 5'11".

I've been searching for a backpack that truly fits a larger laptop and I've finally found it. Although my laptop (HP Pavilion dv7) isn't the largest out there, it was difficult to find a pack that truly fit and was economical. This fits my computer with ample room to spare. The outer dimensions are roughly 14" x 9.5" x 23". It's just a little smaller than the average carry-on suitcases. I'm not a small person, but this pack looks huge on me. It's large enough to carry 3-4 days worth of clothes and your laptop (mind you, I'm a woman lol). I'm even thinking that it would work for backpacking/camping trips.

The padded/mesh back is nice. It's got ample room for all your accessories, clothes, water bottles, etc... Although, I'm not sure how much you can fit in the lower side pockets if you do indeed carry water bottles. Considering the size, I would have preferred that it have a chest/waist strap, but hindsight is always 20/20. :)

The shoulder straps are padded and have a nifty cellphone pocket (removable) and sunglass holder. The only issue I might have is with the top of the straps... The straps are a very stiff. It rubs against ur neck and feels like it's causing chafing. I get by this by loosening the straps, but comfort is still an issue. The website says that the straps are padded, but they are only partially. They do look more durable than some other straps, but I think they have compromised comfort. I wouldn't recommend this pack for all day travel.

Material looks durable, but I've only had this pack for a few days. I don't understand what they mean by the "case base stabilizer platform". If they're referring to the base of the pack, the pack does have a little padding on the bottom. The handle on top is heavily reinforced; however, a chain is only as strong as the weakest link. The handle is attached to the top of the bag with rivets and is reinforced by a plastic covered chain; however, the material where the handle meets the pack is no where near as well reinforced. The reinforced handle does make the pack look bad-ass, but other than that, the reinforcing chain is really more for esthetics than utility.

Overall, I would recommend this pack. I've actually contemplated using it for a backpacking trip... assuming I can do a little something about the overall comfort. :)

Kensington Saddlebag Sport Notebook Backpack

Kensington 62232 SaddleBag Sport Backpack for 15- to 17-Inch NotebooksThis is a terrific backpack. I walk a mile or so to and from work, and I recently bought a Dell 600m midsize notebook, so I decided it was time to get a computer backpack.

This is a terrific bag -it's extremely comfortable and well-balanced, with excellent build quality. The computer compartment is really well padded, and I'm pretty sure I could drop this bag or even toss it across the room and not damage my notebook. My notebook is only a 14", but the compartment appears to be able to hold one much larger.

It has a ton of pockets, and organization freaks will find a place for most anything. It has a decent-sized main compartment with little pockets for notebook accessories, and it has a separate file/paperwork compartment. This makes it really easy to pull out whatever it is you need without sorting through a mess of things that are jumbled together, even if you're as disorganized as I am.

In addition, it has a phone pocket on the strap (for easy access), some side pockets, a top pocket, and a back compartment with a whole bunch of little pockets inside it. Like I said, there's a place for most everything. I'll also be using this as a carry-on bag when I travel, and I've already found some good spots for toiletries and things like that to live.

The only reason I can think of not to buy this bag is if you need a full-sized travel pack or a really tiny mini-pack. For a normal-sized backpack, and for one that can double as a bookbag for college students, you can't do any better.

I ordered this backpack so I could easily carry around my new 17" Dell Inspiron 9300 It fits fine, and the backpack is comfy and roomy. Not many useful external pockets. "Cell phone" pocket is just another zippered pocket, nothing special. Reflective lining strips are starting to crack and peel off (after 2 months use). It fits my stuff though (I always have an ac power cord, mouse, headphones, mousepad, folders, notebooks, etc). Only the bottom is waterproof, some rain did get inside the top of my backpack but no real damage was done. It does the job.

I was visiting some important customers and noticed that all of the guys had these cool backpacks, unlike the bulky boxy laptop bags we were issued. These backpacks have everything you need, including convenient zip side pockets to hold your MP3 player, a zip-down compartment to store your PDA, keys, and a padded laptop compartment. An added benefit is the cell phone pocket that is integrated with the strap so that if you were walking along and you can easily reach your cell phone. I noticed this when one guy reached down under the table to get his ringing phone. It also looks jazzy, with some reflector trimming on the side pockets.

I like the fact that the bag is well padded and there are adequate pockets on the inside to put your notebook accessories. It has a nice rubberized bottom and the upper-end of the back straps are a continuation of the bag itself, not just some strap sewed on to. It also looks like a normal backpack so it's an inconspicous way to carry around your precious notebook.

If one is willing to shell out a fair amount of moola for a laptop computer, then one, it reasons, should also be willing to do the same for the carrying case that will be housing it while being transported, yes? The main question that arises is whether that case should be one that looks like a carrying case or a casual backpack. Myself, I've seen two drawbacks to the former: one, with either its handles or its inadequately padded over-the-shoulder strap, it concentrates all the weight onto one side of the body; two, it looks like a notebook case, thus alerting any potential thief that it contains a computer. So, for me, a non-professional who doesn't have an office job and who doesn't meet clients in office-like settings, the backpack-case route seemed the best route to go. So at a local Circuit City I opted for the Kensington 62232 SaddleBag Sport Computer Carrying Case, with a cost of $39.99 plus tax. There are more expensive backpack cases out there, and also slightly cheaper ones, so preferring more often than not to purchase products in the middle-of-the-road price range, the SaddleBag Sport fit the bill for me. And it's been a pleasure for the most part, especially in light of a previous unpleasant experience with a carrying case a year and a half ago, which, coupled with a 9 lb. Hewlett Packard laptop (both of which I returned to Best Buy after a mere week), made for some serious shoulder-aching days. There are a couple of drawbacks to this particular backpack case, it must be noted, but thus far after a three-month period the pros have decidedly outweighed the cons.

Not looking like some kaleidoscope-colored eyesore from Gadzooks or a drab, nondescript JanSport, the SaddleBag Sport is comfortable yet classyand sporty-looking. It's made out of black waterproof nylon and contains numerous pouches and pockets for numerous needs. On both bottom sides there's an open pocket for a water bottle, which serves its function well enough and is even accommodating for small umbrellas (though if you try toting either by using just one of the straps on your shoulder, the objects will rub up against your side and fall out); and right above each one is a small zip pocket designed for easy access to a cell phone or MP3 device (though I can't aver that this design equates into a success since I own neither such device). On the bottom of the front side, there's a small leather pouch that contains pockets for writing supplies and business cards, along with a gray metal clasp for keys; and attached to the open flap there's a nylon zipper net for storing small loose items, like paper clips and staples and the like. Above that is a compartment more than double the pouch's size that extends all the way to the bottom of the case; ideal for medium to large cupped headphones and paperback books, this. And opening up from the top is the main compartment, which splits into two sections. The first one has several non-zippered mini nets lining the exterior wall, which can be bothersome in that objects, like paper notebooks, can get snagged on them; aside from these needless things (I've no idea the purpose of them), the allotted space is adequate.

It's the second compartment, though (with the dimensions 12.0"L x 16.4"H x 2.0"W) -the one designed for the laptop -that's the bee's knees, so to speak. With Kensington's SnugFit(tm) sleeve, your computer will be amid some reassuring surroundings. The lining of the interior back wall and the sides is soft but durable and exceptionally well-padded; and the exterior backside boasts not only good padding for added reinforcement of that inner compartment, but three padded contours -on the top left and right and bottom center -for added comfort while carrying the case on the shoulder or back. A couple of possible negatives, however: while the exterior bottom has been superbly designed for water resistance (it's made out of rubber), the interior bottom relies too much on it -it lacks the generous padding of the back and sides, so if the case were dropped and landed straight down, either side of the laptop could be susceptible to damage; and the top is also a problem in that its interior padding is just as mediocre, and it doesn't have the benefit of the exterior bottom's notched rubber as a contingency. Yet, as bothersome as these vulnerabilities are (why not splurge for just a wee bit more padding in these two spots?), the chances of sustaining damage to your laptop are quite minimal in that the case, when dropped with the rest of its compartments adequately filled, tends to fall in a face-first direction, thus leaving the compartments containing the less-expensive items absorbing the majority of the impact. That leaves the vulnerable top portion, but the likelihood of dropping the case upside down is, as you'll probably agree, low.

As for the carrying comfort, the SaddleBag Sport is quite a wonder. Compared to my Hewlett laptop/carrying case experience, which felt much like a toilful chore, this one with my 7.9 lb. Toshiba 15.4" and this case isn't even in the same ballpark. The contoured (and easily adjustable) shoulder straps, which have been designed to ease neck and shoulder strain, make carrying this on one's shoulder perfectly feasible; and, as aforementioned, the generous padding on the back and its snug (but not tight) fit to your body occasionally make you forget you're toting the case around, believe it or not. Another praiseworthy notable is the zippers. They move back and forth with ease, the material surrounding them is not only reflective, which improves nighttime visibility, but protective in their complete covering and sealing of the zipper, which vastly decreases the chance of water seeping in. Throw in a water-resistant headphone port located at the very top of the case, along with a design that makes it super-easy to gain access to your laptop at a moment's notice with just one zip (for a case that's this protective, it's hard to believe you don't have to wade through two or more zippers to get to it), and you have yourself quite the stylish alternative to those run-of-the-mill satchel cases. Oh, perhaps there could be a bit more room in the main compartment being that with a regular-size laptop, its AC power adapter, a couple of DVDs, and a 3-subject notebook there isn't much in the way of spare room left (of course, a Centrino notebook without the AC adapter would alleviate this), but overall the SaddleBag Sport does its intended job and does it well.

Oshawott 14" Plush Backpack

Maxpedition COCOON POUCH

Maxpedition COCOON POUCHThe Maxpedition Cocoon Pouch is an excellent modular add on accessory that will fit well on any Alice/MOLLE compatible product such as a backpack, water bottle holder, Gearslinger, etc.

The Cocoon is a utility pouch that comes with a very durable full length zipper. It is 2 inches in diameter x 8 inches long. You can use a 3 inch TacTie (sold separately) and the SlikClip is included.

Often times I will utilize two Cocoon Pouches: one dedicated to fire and one dedicated to food/water products.

Examples:

Cocoon Pouch for fire: contents include a Swedish Firesteel Army Model, petroleum cotton balls, water proof matches, Ultimate Survival Wet Fire Tinder and a lighter. Sometimes I will throw in Magnesium. Yes, multiple methods of starting a fire is important.

Cocoon Pouch for water/food: contents include a spork or other eating utensils, Aquamira Frontier Emergency Water Filter System, water purification tablets and an energy bar.

There are plenty of uses for the Maxpedition Cocoon Pouch. Another great Maxpedition product.

I use this to carry my pens, pencils, highlighters, markers, and other writing supplies. It's the perfect length and shape for them. (In terms of volume, it's easily large enough for a dozen ballpoint pens, but probably not large enough to accommodate a dozen Sharpie markers.)

I use 2 of these with my Maxpedition bottle holder. I keep paracord in them and they work great. These make a great addition to a survival set up using the bottle holder.

As small as this item is, is expands like a mini duffel bag to hold whatever you might throw in it. The bottom of the inside is flat and lined with a tough, rubbery lining like the outside bottom of some of Maxped's backpacks. This is a great size for an add-on for quick-use items like a headlamp and some batteries, since it isn't noticable and can hold quite a bit.

Tumi Luggage T-Tech Network Tri-Fold Garment Bag, Black, One Size

Tumi Luggage T-Tech Network Tri-Fold Garment Bag, Black, One SizeLet me add to that title by saying it's also the most expensive suitcase I've ever owned. I rarely need to bring anything but casual clothes when I travel. I bought this for a trip to a wedding where I needed a suit to make it through unwrinkled. The design of this bag is very different than other garment bags. It folds in thirds, but doesn't roll up. There's structure to the sides that fold and zip together, so the result is a rectangular shape, about six inches wide. This structure ensured my clothes arrived unwrinkled and ready to wear. Folding in thirds, rather than half, means it's easy to carry around, toss into a cab, and keep at your feet when sitting at a table in a resteraunt. It wasn't cheap, but I would certainly buy this bag again.

Gregory Z30 Technical Pack

Gregory hiking bag Z 30 M blueThis backpack was on my list of possible purchase when I saw the 1-star review. I was alarmed until I read the details. The reviewer basically rated it so low because of the 'bucket pocket' whose function he did not fully understand.

My son lend me his Gregory Z22 and I liked its quality and functionality. However, it was a bit small for my intended use. I was looking for something well-made with a capacity of 28-35 liters, a hydration compartment, mesh back, light weight, interior frame, built-in rain flyers. The Z30 Medium (I have a 19-inch torso the pack also comes in "Large" for longer torsos) meets all my requirements. However, just to be sure I went to REI and tried out all the other brands that were carried there, including Osprey and Deuter. I liked them all but ended up buying the Gregory. (To be fair, I probably would have been happy with one of the others too.)

The Z30 has very nice hip belt and shoulder pads, each with various ways for fine adjustments to fit your body shape. Make sure you have your torso measured for correct sizing. I sweat easily so the mesh back, which keeps the pack away from your back, is critical for me. (I have had other packs with other systems of ventilation but they did not work for me.) The provided rain fly is a nice feature since it will inevitably rain if you are out in the elements. I could have bought an after market rain fly but then it would cost $15-30 more, is not custom fitted, and does not have its own zippered storage pocket! The mesh pockets on the hip belt are handy they are small but large enough to hold my (international) GMS phone and charger.

I have tested my pack on several day hikes and appreciate the large opening at the top, the many zippered pockets to organize smaller items. I particularly like the bucket pocket it was large enough for my light rain jacket and a couple of fruit. I am a minimalist and tend not to carry much. However, the extra volume (my standard) is nice in case I decide to pack more bulky items some day(my son's advice!) With smaller load, the compression straps perform their jobs well in keeping things from moving around. Oh yes, others may not like the gray color but I think it's good since brighter and lighter colors will show dirt more easily.

From what I have seen of this pack (the stitches, zippers, materials...) I think it will last me a long time. I definitely would recommend this pack to anyone who are looking for a bag in this size range.

BTW, this is my firs review of anything online. Also, I'm not in any way associated with Gregory, REI or Amazon.com! The 1-star review was so unfair that prompted me to write.

I too was surprised by the 1 star review. I looked at the reviews on other sites such as REI and it was reviewed at 4.5 out of 5. I will use this pack for hiking in Patagonia in the Fall. I like the gray colour, the included rain cover is a big plus as they cost around $20's to $30's. There is enough room and compartments for my stuff and the I like the transfer suspension which keeps your back cool. Also, there are compartments on the hip belt for your phone, small camera etc, as well as dual ports for a hydration resevoir.

I just back from a trip to Patagonia (October 2012) where I used this pack for the W trek, which was 3 1/2 days, and over 30 miles where I carried about 6.5 kg in my pack. My pack was useful and comfortable.

I have found that backpacks fall into a particular category of preference. This meaning that one person may love it while another simply despises it. These biases happen because of why a person wants the bag and the manner in which they use the equipment.

I had a decades old Jandd mountaineering day pack that is just a hair too small for a serious one night outing and had no hydration options. I have been procrastinating in replacing it because it is in excellent shape, light and bombproof. But my last snow shoe hike convinced me I could not hold out any longer. If I had to guess, I would think the Jandd pack is roughly 1000-1200 cubic inches (maybe a tad bigger). This gives me enough room to pack a full set of dry clothes/thermals (compressed), food for an unexpected night's stay, first aid pouch, a selection of small survival tools/items, and my most compressible sleeping bag (all within Jandd's single compartment pack with a small top bag that acts as the cover to the main compartment's draw string opening) . I had to lash my hydration pack to the side of the day pack and went tent/bivy-less.

The Gregory pack is sized to be stuck between day pack and overnighter (or two day?). This fits my use of this bag perfectly. In the summer-time when doing easy/local/laid-back day hikes, I can take my Camelback Rogue which had just enough room for lunch, first aid, an outdoor multi-tool, and water (of course). If the summer day hike takes me beyond an easy walk back into civilization, then the Jandd seems to still work pretty good as the draw string, main compartment enclosure, accepts the Camelback bladder, and all the items I need for a summer's night out. Once you add the inclement weather of the NW (winter and some fall and spring), you need just a little bit more in terms of pack size and features as it is wise to be a bit more prepared.

The Z-30 medium is a great combination of pockets and compartments. This pack offers one main compartment with two smaller found on the top and front. The main compartment has a smaller webbed zippered pocket as well as the sleeve for the water bladder. The rain-fly has its own compartment found below the small compartment in the front and has a drain port for wet storage (a fantastic feature for the NW). I appreciate the single large compartment design as it cuts down on weight and gives me better packing options when I have unusually sized loads. The top/back of the main compartment also features two single straps with clips at the end and a sewn loop in between them. The loop is located nicely over the bladder enclosure and offers a perfect attachment for my 70oz Camelback bladder and the two clipped straps work nicely as grab locators for clothing/accessories (that are hanging the length of the pack), and organizational pouches. The clips make it possible to keep certain items obtainable without having to dig to the bottom of the main compartment. The gusseted bucket pocket is a great feature to stuff wet (as it has a drain port too!) items or shed layers quickly without having to reinvent your packing strategy. This pocket also opens wide enough to accept foot wear and more. The gussets do not continue to the bottom of the pocket leaving enough room (an inch perhaps) to allow long items with a handle or shaft to continue through the pocket for better storage placement. For example the handle of a small shovel could slide through this opening allowing for better storage/carry placement. The pack also has two very well designed lashing mechanisms that are designed to hold anything from hiking poles, tripods, and ice axes. With the bucket pocket and the two lashing features, I may have every item secured for a short climb, during the hike, where all of my extremities are required. The two webbed pockets found at the base of the pack are pleated and the elastic is quite thick and seems durable. Longer items stuck in either of these pockets can be further secured to the pack with the compression straps that are designed for the compression of the main load. Long items can be secured with both compression straps found on the side of the pack where shorter items, just breaching the pocket's brim, can be secured with just the lower compression strap. If you want the contents of these pockets to be an easy grab during the hike, the compression straps can easily miss a thermos or water bottle. This pack is full of options like the few I have mentioned. Gregory has done an excellent job incorporating storage options for the many different scenarios I will put it through. The only criticism on the storage features is aimed at the pockets found on the waist strap. They are too small for a number of things I've wanted to put in there. This is not by any means a deal-breaker nor did it drop the star-rating of this product.

The material is a great combination of durability and lightweight. The suspension and waist strap are high quality and have the same thoughtful engineering as the storage features. The lumbar pad at the base of the pack is a prominent feature should not be overlooked. If your back likes lumbar support while sitting, it may very well like this pack as much you do. I would not hesitate to also use this back for weekend traveling where hiking may be found. The bag should be of the size to qualify for carry-on during air travel.

I've noticed a couple of negative reviews online and can't help but think they are somewhat misplaced. What these negative reviews should be focusing on really should be how the design did not fit their purposes. If you bought a pick-up truck but you were a parent of 12 children, don't rant and carry on about how the manufacturer's design did not allot for all your little passengers. This is not a proper reflection on the design, production quality, or usefulness of that truck. That pick-up may very well be a terrific product, you just needed to buy a 14-passenger van. But, as it pertains to back packs, this means you will not only have to be in tune with what you really want out of a back pack, but you also have to do a bit searching and investigating in order to be in the correct style of pack and that takes some time.

I live in Colorado and do a lot of hiking and climbing and bought this pack for day hiking, generally up fourteeners. I found this pack to be extremely comfortable and light but it is very small. Basically the essentials for a 13-mile fourteener climb comfortably filled the pack. While the zippered main compartment is very convenient, the fact that it is zippered means that it is not as "stuffable" as a pack with a draw string enclosure. This is made up for somewhat by the large, gusseted pocket on the front of the pack that I was able to stuff both my rain jacket and hoody into for easy access throughout the day. The smaller pocket on the top of the pack is a good size for things like cameras, snacks and the like. The pack's suspension system, like most Gregorys, is close to the industry best and very comfortable. The waist belt carries the load very well and that, combined with the fact that the pack is small and light, means that there is little to no shoulder strain and all the straps are very well padded. The rain cover is very nice and easy to put on. Overall this is fantastic pack for a limited use, that is light weight day hiking. If your looking for a day pack that you can stuff a little more into or possibly use for a short backpacking trip, you might want to look elsewhere.
