Outdoor Research Drycomp Ridge Sack Backpack

Outdoor Research Drycomp Ridge SackI wanted a waterproof day sack, and looked hard at a lot of different packs, and actually bought another and sent it back, before settling on this one. I've now used it twice snowshoeing and it seems to be pretty good.

I already have lots of different packs of many different kinds and dimensions, but I needed something waterproof, that was still light enough to carry as a daypack.

I had two specific quite different uses in mind: snowshoeing and paddling.

For paddling, until now I've just carried a dry bag down to the water, but I wanted a backpack so I could cycle down to the water instead of driving my car. There are lots of dry bags with backpack straps, but a lot of them don't have a good way to lash on my very light carbon paddle, and they tend to be kind of heavy and clumsy as packs.

For snowshoeing, and general day hiking, I wanted something that works fairly well as a backpack and this one seems to fit and ride on my back pretty well. I live on the West Coast, it's a wet place, and I don't know how many times I've come home, reasonably dry, but without a pack cover, everything in my pack has gotten damp. Snow in the mountains on the North Shore can be pretty damp it's nice to have a pack that can sit in the snow and keep its contents dry.

It's pretty light but how tough? The waterproof fabric seems rather fragile, but I suspect it's tougher than it looks.

The mesh on the front will probably get trashed I can live with that if the rest of the bag holds up.

I would've preferred slightly thicker backpack straps, but they're reasonably comfortable.

No structure at all to this pack it's just a bag so you do have to pack a bit carefully. No padding on the back, so it can be a bit sweaty to wear, but if it did have padding, and structure on the back, it would've been heavier and I'd be a little less inclined to get it wet with seawater.

I like the size not too big, not too small. I'm 5'10" and fairly big in the shoulders, and it fits well, although even at its lowest setting, the sternum strap is a bit high. Mostly I don't use it, but it was handy to have when descending a steep slope on snowshoes.

It's kind of expensive, but if it holds up I won't mind paying the extra price for waterproofness. If it were a bit cheaper and had slightly better backpack straps, I might've been inclined to give it the full five stars instead of four.

I may update this review after using it on the water for a while.

UPDATE 5 July 2013: Have used it now for about a dozen trips on the water, and like the pack more than ever.

I got it in the hope that it would replace a regular dry bag, and allow me to carry stuff down to my canoe while riding my bike, and it works very well for that. Unlike other backpack-style dry bags out there, the extra loops and lash points on the bag make it easy to carry extra things on the outside of the bag. For instance, I have a two-part carbon kayak paddle, and dropping them blade-up through the elasticized loops at the top of the bag and down through ice axe loops on the bottom of the bag works great. The mesh pouch on the front of the bag is a great place to store a handheld VHF, gloves and a small water bottle, and the straps on the side hold a camp mat/flotation device. The fastex-type buckle at the top of the mesh pouch lets me quickly and easily clip the bag to the boat.

My earlier complaint about the shoulder straps stands; wish they were a bit stiffer (so they didn't get twisted up so easily) and a little less water absorbent but this is a minor complaint.

Overall, the bag allows me to get my stuff to the water using a bike instead of my car a big step forward.

I am an avid cyclist living in the northwest and I definitely get wet. Not now. Or at least not whats in my new backpack. Only drawback is packing it theres no frame. If your object is odd shaped it might stick in your back. Just putting alittle thought in packin and your fine as frogs hair.

Took this on an overnight trip to meet up with my raft group. Since I was going to be on the river for 2 weeks I also wanted a pack that would work as a dry bag. At the end of the trip I was quite pleased with this pack.

This is definitely in the ultra-lite/minimalist category. Size wise it's somewhere between a day pack and an overnight pack, or pretty much a large day pack. I had to fly to my destination than camp out that night before hiking down 6 hours to the river so I used it as an overnight pack. Because I was camping out I had to strap my sleeping bag on the bottom of the pack which took a little creativity, but it did work and I didn't have any issues hiking all morning that way. It is at the almost overnight pack size so I do wish they would have stuck a few tie points on the bottom to allow you to tie something on if you need to, but for the average user they won't ever need that.

The shoulder straps and waist belt are minimalist, which did worry me at first. However they performed adequately. I was hiking with the pack stuffed to the gills and then some what with stuff tied to the outside. This caused me to feel the straps by hour 4, but considering how much more weight I had in the pack then it was probably designed for, it wasn't too bad. Later in the trip I used this pack for a short day hike and the minimalist design of the shoulder straps worked great.

At the end of the day I threw extra gear into this pack, rolled up the top and threw into the bottom of the raft for 2 weeks were it kept all my gear dry through a lot of rapids. So all in all I am quite pleased with this little one.

Roxy Juniors Going Coastal Backpack

Roxy Juniors Going Coastal Backpack, True Black, One SizeAwesome backpack! Perfect size and style for almost anything. Will be using it often. The material is a little flimsy but it holds well so far an I don't have a problem with it.

Sherpani Luggage Access Le

Sherpani Access LE BackpackI love this backpack. It is a nice size, about 10" wide and 15" high. The main pocket expands inside to about 4"-5" inches deep. I ordered the Sangria color, it's a beautiful muted red/wine color. The backpack is feminine looking, light weight, and lightly padded if you want to carry an e-reader or tablet inside (I would still use a separate case for those electronics if the bag were dropped, I don't think it would provide enough cushioning to protect electronics). The padded straps are comfortable on the shoulders. There is no leather, it's all fabric and I think it will be water repellent though their website does not specifically say so. I do not know why there aren't more photos of this product here. The interior has one large pocket on inside front and another on the inside back one of these pockets has a zipper. There are also four credit-card slots inside, two pen-holders, and one narrow pocket that looks like it was designed for an older style cell phone. The outside pocket you see with the zipper facing is rather small, would hold a small paperback book, but I don't put anything expensive in there, it's too easy for someone in a crowded area to grab and take something out. I am not crazy about the silly zipper pull, it just hangs there serving no real function, and I might remove it because the zipper is easy enough to operate without it. And finally, there's a small pocket on the very top of the backpack, perfect for smart phone or a few cosmetics. I would have ordered the very pretty purple colored pack if it were an option. It is shown in some of the company advertisements, but not a purchase option. Overall, a really adorable bag and a reasonable price.

When first seeing the backpack I could not believe how small it really is. It is flat and can hardly fit anything inside. It did have room for my tablet, but that's about all. I would not recommend this product to anyone who is looking to use it for more than just a tablet. If that is all you are looking for than I do recommend it because it is cute and attractive.

Like: cute design, solid quality construction, size is perfect for a little daypack, good pockets/nooks & crannies, carry handle on top

Dislike: long pull loop on the outer zipper (easily fixed that with scissors and a little run-stopper), straps aren't as comfy as they could be

I got this so I could be hands free on outings with my 2 year old. I received a Sherpani wallet as a gift and LOVED it. I like the backpack a lot. It's smaller than I thought, but that being said, it can fit everything I need including an extra diaper, and my kiddos snack and juice cups. I've only had it a few days, but the quality is excellent. It's really more of a purse than a backpack. I love the color (I got the grey one) and the design. If I had to do it all over again I would definitely buy it again.

Donna Sharp Pauline Bag, Precious

Donna Sharp Pauline Bag, PreciousAbsolutely love love love this bag. It has many little and larger pockets to keep all my "stuff" from being lumped together in the bottom, which I find to be a necessity. Quality of workmanship by this manufacturer is superb. Many patterns and styles to choose from, and accessory pieces. This is my second bag by Donna Sharp and I love both. I also have matching wallets that have lots of space for credit cards, bills, change and my checks. I highly recommend Donna Sharp products.

Power Notebook Laptop Sleeve Bag Carrying Case for MacBook, Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Sony, Tos

Power Notebook Laptop Sleeve Bag Carrying Case for MacBook, Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Sony, Toshiba -Spring Blue / Green Flowers, 14 inchSo I bought this sleeve for my 14 inch Toshiba laptop and it is beautiful. The colors are vibrant and the material seems like it is water resistant. I've never had a sleeve before so I don't know if its supposed to have be very snug or have about a half inch of room at the top, which it does. It Isn't all fancy with pockets or other compartments, it is a simple sleeve, but if you're just looking for a beautiful sleve to hold your laptop I'd recommend it.

this is a perfect amount of padding for my xps!! I use it when carrying my travel bag or work bag.

Colors are vibrant, love the pattern. I just needed a sleeve to protect my laptop while it's in my book bag; I wasn't looking for something really bulky. That being said, I also wouldn't be worried about just carrying my laptop in this alone. Runs a little big for my computer (HP Pavilion Sleek Book 14 inch) but I don't mind. The extra space allows my to put my charger and headphones in with it. Great price for the purpose I need it to serve. Would recommend this product!

We took a chance on this cover, feeling a little concerned that the thickness capacity was listed at only 1". Because it is made of soft material, the inside capacity is easily more than 1", and we were able to fit a mouse inside the cover with the 14" laptop. Great padding and cute as can be. This one is a winner.

Neff Kruzer Backpack - Black

Neff Kruzer Backpack - BlackI bought it for school, it's basically a cheaply made backpack that they can charge more for because of the neff logo. If it didn't have the neff text then it would probably cost 5 dollars. It started ripping all over the first week of school. It also has some lip that comes up around the zippers and is VERY annoying. Neff is an amazing company, but please, don't buy a neff backpack. Stick to the beanies and clothes!

THIS IS GREAAAAT it fit all my wrestling gear books wrestling shoes running shoes. And it feels good on my back (i have back problems) it works well looks good and it supports weight nice job neff :D

Ensign Peak Dual Pocket Drawstring Backpack

Dual Pocket Drawstring BackpackThis is a simple bag that does the job.

It is not a full out gym bag, but you can get shoes and a change of clothes in there. I like that it is breathable so if something is damp I do not need to get worried if I do not empty it right away.

The main draw back is that the water bottle pocket does not accommodate anything bigger than a standard 20 oz. bottle. My Sigg bottle and insulated bottle for my bike don't fit and it would be nice if the other outside pocket had a closure of some sort but it is still a great bag for stowing things on the quick.

I used this bag for Comic-Con to match my outfit, and it held up well, though I did have to retie the knots for the straps immediately because one came undone before I even used it. It did well being fairly full and put under a lot of strain over the course of the four days, and my water bottle was definitely secure within its pocket. I'm sure it won't last forever, but it did its job and I'm happy with it.

I really like the look of this bag but it is a lot larger than I expected for a 'small' shoulder bag. The laptop sleeve fit my 13" macbook pro great even with the rubber case on. If I could, I'd keep the sleeve and send the bag back. With the laptop in the sleeve in the bag, there is still at least 4 inches of room in the length of the big pocket. The outer pockets also bulge quite a bit.

I love this bag!! It arrived in first class condition, well packed and was better than described on the website. Extremely well made, this is better than a briefcase or simple computer bag. There is a case that you can slip your computer in and then place it in the bag. As a Realtor, this is the perfect bag!! It would also work well for an attorney, loan officer or other professional person! If you want to give someone a gift that they will love, give them this bag!! This is a very well made product! Thank you for offering it!! I like the mustard color, because it is easy to spot and difficult to forget!!

Speedo Performance Pro Backpack

Speedo Performance Pro Backpack, MaroonI bought 2 of these backpacks. One for each of my daughters. They love these swim bags! My daughters are 8 and 10 and can fill these backpacks up and still comfortably handle the packs due to great design and padded back and straps. They can put 3 towels, change of clothes, cap, googles and snacks for meets. A typical practice includes their boots, winter coat, clothes, towel, suit, water bottle, cap and googles. They LOVE these packs and I love the quality!

I workout and shower at my fitness club 3-5x a week, all season long. I needed something big enough for two towels, shoes/boots, toiletries, hairdryer, dry clothes, wet clothes, phone, ipod, wallet, food, drink, etc. I had been hunting for a long time! this bag is absolutely perfect. it has multiple compartments, inside and out, some with mesh, some with solid closures, and most have different size pouches for different purposes. the shoulder straps are wide and very comfortable. most of the zipper enclosures have two zips so you can pull from either end, based on what side you're facing the backpack. the pink is bright and happy too! i highly recommend this bag. for $43, you really can't beat the size, quality and functionality of this bag.

This is a great backpack for swim team. There are separate compartments to keep wet stuff away from dry stuff. My girls can fit all their suits, clothes, towels, and swim meet necessities in this bag and everything stays dry, even on the wet deck.

Well made large do-all. I use it for my daily gym bag, carrying items home after shopping nearby on my bike. Will bend and fold easy for air travel. I would have liked some smaller zipped pockets available. Also the zippers work in the opposite way one would expect. You must zip down to close, and up to open on the side pockets. The front 180 degree opening allow things to fall out of the large pocket rendering it basically useless. A straight across the top zipper would work better. Waterproof material. Great strong dual front straps allow for carrying heavy loads with comfort.

It's a perfect sports bag. Big enough to fit everything you need for two people to go swimming, with plenty of pockets to separate wet and dry.

Note: the bag a bit too big for the average lockers they install in most GYMs/swimming pools. Once it's half empty, it fits fine.

Disney Cars I Am Speed Large Rolling Backpack

Disney Cars I Am Speed Large Rolling BackpackI ordered a Disney Pixar Cars 17" Rolling Backpak from this seller through Amazon on 12/13/10. I received a 12" x 10" no wheels backpack instead. I've tried to get in touch with them ever since and no one answers the phone, mailbox always full, I sent e-mail and no one has responded. You can call 100 times a day, they don't answer. I only put 1 star to be able to leave the review otherwise I'd rate it 0 stars. Don't think twice, don't order from them.

I order this item. It is a Christmas item. On the Wednesday before Christmas, I got the item from Orangeonions. It was not what I ordered. It was a very small, non-rolling school backpack. I tried calling, can't reach Orange Onions, all of their 3 options, after a long wait, have a full mailbox. You are told to call back. Why would you? You can not speak with anyone. I sent an e-mail. I contacted Amazon.com. No one can help me. My advise to you, do not buy from this seller.

I've had this bag for a little over a month now and this bag is great. It looks awesome (got some compliments from the gym) and seems to have solid construction and quality parts. I use it primarily for brazilian jiujitsu so it is more than adequate to fit a gi (or two) just as a backpack. There's a lined pocket on the top which is great for valuables. There are two side pockets one for miscellaneous things such as mouth-guards and toiletries and the other with an insulated lining which is great to keep drinks cold and food hot. The convertible duffle bag feature makes this bag pretty versatile if you need to store more gear for MMA or things of that nature. I can see this bag being great for travel especially for backpacking. A separated vented pocket for your damp clothes and items makes this bag different from most and promotes good hygiene. I would definitely recommend this bag for an active lifestyle, some people may find this bag very big but I think that's a desirable trait for what it's mostly going to be used for.

SwissGear Computer Backpack

SwissGear Computer BackpackI purchased this Wenger backpack bag over 2 years ago from a local Best Buy, and immediately loved it. The big problem (for me) with previous backpacks is all of the contents rest near the bottom of the bag (gravity in action). This bag however, offers 3 compartments for storing items such as keys, USB sticks, iPods, even heavy power adaptors in pockets "sewn" to the top. This results in a very balanced bag and quick access to items frequently used.

Although this bag is durable and travels well, over time and worldwide travel, the bag started looking a bit tattered. So I purchased a new one on Amazon (through samscause.org) expecting to get the same bag. However, Wenger has made several key additions and upgrades that make this bag even harder to beat.

Now, each compartment is fully lined. The bag now has a stiffer bottom allowing it to sit more upright. They've removed the useless waist belt, freeing up space and the annoying buckle in my lower back. The side zippered pockets are now much larger and more useful. The padded computer compartment offers much better protection and is more form-fitting. In summary, I got much more than I'd anticipated.

Finally, I've read other reviews that stated 15.4 wide-screen laptops don't fit. I have an HP/Compaq nc8230 business 15.4 wide-screen laptop, and it fits perfectly (14.1" x 10.1" x 1").

My only negative (not reflected in my rating) is I wish the bag was available in all black. Perhaps then it would appear a bit more "business-like" which is relatively important in my job. But every laptop backpack I've tried (including the $485 Tumi) doesn't offer near the functionality of this bag. So function wins over appearance in this case.

This is the first review I've ever written on Amazon. That's how impressed I am with this purchase and this backpack bag.

I want to preface this review by saying that prior to purchasing the Swiss Gear Synergy, I owned a Swiss Gear Maxxum pack for about two and a half years (see my review of that pack as well). I wore the Maxxum about 6 days a week, with a consistently very full and heavy load and was extremely satisfied. But, after 2.5 years, the shoulder straps started to show their age, and I decided it was time for a replacement. I knew before I began my search that my next bag would also be a Swiss Gear, and perhaps another Maxxum.

I visited a local store that had 5 models of Swiss Gear packs in stock (but sadly, not a Maxxum) and gave them all a good looking over for features and construction as well as a check for personal fit. I was quickly able to eliminate a few of the smaller models as they simply didn't have the raw storage volume I require for my daily load. The final three in contention were the Cobalt, Pegasus, and Synergy. I next eliminated the Swiss Gear Pegasus (a great looking bag) from consideration, for while it was clearly designed for carrying very large laptops (17"), aside from the computer, this bag was obviously meant to hold generally flat things. While I gladly would have paid the higher price for the Pegasus, it simply would not accept the larger and roughly cube-ish, cylinder-ish or sphere-ish shapes I often need to carry (camera bag, lunch, water, soup thermos and more).

In the end, I selected the Synergy, and I'm VERY glad I did.

DECIDING FACTORS

VOLUME AND SPACE USABILITY Of the bags I was considering, the Synergy has both the largest volume as well as the best configuration of that volume for my real world uses. Additionally, while several of the bags I was looking at had side zip water pockets, only the Synergy's felt generous enough to entirely contain a reasonably sized bottle when completely zipped. The total cubic capacity of this bag seems very similar to that of the Maxxum, but the pack has a more vertical and usable orientation of that volume. While the compartments of the Maxxum get shorter the further you move from the packplane of the pack, the Synergy takes very similarly sized compartments and arranges them such that they are in a taller, more back hugging overall shape. The Maxxum really sticks out quite a way when it's fully loaded, while the Synergy hugs your body more closely. I find this a great improvement.

BACK PAD VENTILATION Having humped the Maxxum around for the better part of three years, I know how well the design of the back pad moves air around your back. The Synergy has the same back pad as the Maxxum, and to me, that's a big plus. I've carried this pack, fully and heavily loaded for very long periods, both standing and walking, and it's always been comfortable, even on warm days.

DURABILITY The Maxxum and Synergy are very similarly constructed, and I can tell you that my Maxxum held up to very rough treatment for the full span of the two and a half years I had it. These are very tough bags, inside and out.

STRAPS while the straps were the first part of the Maxxum to "fail", I have to admit, with the load I put in mine, I fully expected the straps to have given out after about a year ... but they didn't. Not even after two years. Even at two and a half years, they hadn't exactly failed, they were looking pretty rough, and I decided to play it safe. I never weighed my pack full, but those who tried packing it often remarked 'What do you put IN this thing, bricks?' Well, a very heavy laptop + very heavy adapter + very heavy spare battery make up the worst of the load. Add in a camera, voice recorder, notepads, books, wireless mouse, lunch, assorted papers, vitamins, address book, keys, umbrella and more, and the bag gets very heavy. This size bag holds a lot, and if the straps aren't super strong, all that weight would rip them out by the roots (which has happened to me before with lesser bags). But not these straps. They're tough. As for those of you who prefer a waist strap, I've tried packs with them before and didn't like them for myself at all. This pack keeps the load right where I want it and keeps it comfortable for long stretches of time.

POCKETS After volume, durability and fit, it's all about the pockets for me. Like the Maxxum, the Synergy has a truly brilliant combination of pockets for those of us who have to carry a mobile production studio on our back. If all you have is a laptop and some flat notebooks, the Pegasus looks like an awesome pack, but if you need to stuff in gloves, hats, cameras, accessories, food, water and more, the Synergy is the pack to get. How many pockets? Oy ... let's count.

PC COMPARTMENT (closest to your back)

1) Main padded PC pocket(red) with securing Velcro strap. NOTE: When you open the compartment nearest your back, the PC pocket is located away from your back. This provides more buffer between back of pack and the PC ... I like that.)

2) Netted accessories pocket next to PC pocket

3) Open center area within PC compartment for papers or notebooks (against your back, providing potentially more padding)

SIDE COMPARTMENT LEFT

4) Zipper close compartment for water bottle

5) Netted open top stretch pocket, wrapping around zipper pocket

SIDE COMPARTMENT RIGHT

6) Zipper close compartment for water bottle

7) Netted open top stretch pocket, wrapping around zipper pocket (not for nuts ... the squirrels WILL find them and eat through the net :) )

Now, moving to the front of the pack and working our way back toward the PC pocket.

FRONT MOST POCKET

8) Small zip pocket could hold CD/DVD player, wallet, address book, calendar or similar sized object. Good for quick access items.

PERSONAL ACCESSORIES COMPARTMENT (2ND from front)

This area is designed to hold small personal items like pocket cameras, keys, business cards, pocket knife, loose small items, pens, pencils, etc. Red liner makes it easier to find small stuff when in low light.

9) Large zipper "pencil" pouch (a pack of 12 highlighters fits in there well)

10) Elastic Netted "camera" pocket (for pocket camera)

11) Velcro flap cover "Pocket knife" sleeve

12-16) 5 card/cardstack pockets

17) Key ring clip

18) Open area in front of smaller pockets for larger calendar, papers, etc.

SHIELD POCKET COMPARTMENT (3rd from front, with Swiss Gear shield facing front)

19) This single medium/large sized compartment is perfectly sized to hold my winter gloves, sunglasses in case, warm hat, hairbrush and umbrella accessories that I don't always need but REALLY want handy when the weather turns against me. Or in hot weather, this could hold a sun hat, shorts, t-shirt, flip flops etc. This compartment is tall, wide but not very deep, so it wouldn't work for a soup thermos, cubical lunch container, camera bag, etc., but for assorted flatter things 2-3" deep, about 10" wide and over a foot tall, it's perfect.

MAIN HIGH CUBE STORAGE (4th from front)

20)The main storage area within the 4th zip from the front is cavernous. I could easily fit my camera bag, lunch and a bunch of other stuff in here. Over a foot tall, about 4"to6" deep (depending on what you put in adjacent compartments), close to a foot wide, I also use it for spare clothes, jackets, towels or other bulky objects that need some serious room. This compartment allows this pack to be a really usable weekender, as it can hold spare clothes and personal accessories, while other compartments store the PC and tech gear.

21) Zipper net pocket good for small important things you don't want flopping around in this BIG main compartment. Easily holds 5"x7" sized papers/cards, wallet, small notebooks, etc.

22) Folder Pocket along the back plane of this large compartment, against the neighboring PC compartment, is a large open top pocket for papers or folders. If you need to keep something flat and the laptop area is full, this gives you another option.

TOP QUICK ACCESS POCKET RED LINED

23) One of my favorite features of this bag and the Maxxum is the top mounted quick access pocket, lined in bright red, which makes it easier to find small stuff in dim light. Great for small electronics, keys, cables, USB thumb drives, memory cards, or anything small that isn't sharp. The lining of this pocket is softer than some and I wouldn't put anything pointy in there. Keys, pens and mechanical pencils are OK, but nothing sharper.

24) Inner Velcro flapped pocket for MP3 player, cellphone or other small device. This pocket within a pocket keeps delicate electronics both secure and protected from metal items that might scratch them. I think this pocket is just a touch larger than in the Maxxum, probably to accomodate smart phones not just MP3 players.

NOTE: There's a grommet in the side of this pocket that allows headphone/earbud cables to extend out of a specially marked rubberized opening on the top/side of the pack.

That's 24 pockets/pouches/clips in all, which makes this backpack a real workhorse. One note of caution: Filled, this bag can be VERY heavy. The bag can take it, and I find the straps and back pad distribute the load very well and keep it comfortable for me. But I have read where some users were a bit overpowered by the weight this bag can hold. Keep that in mind when loading it up.

BOTTOM PROTECTION FROM WATER I spend a fair amount of time waiting for buses at bus stops in the Pacific Northwest, where the pavement is quite frequently wet. While most Swiss Gear bags do a nice job sitting up by themselves, of the ones I was considering, the Synergy had the best bottom protection against the wet. Some of the bags were only partially rubberized on the bottom, while one can safely place the Synergy on wet pavement and have total peace of mind.

When my wife and I are heading out for a day or weekend of creativity in the field, this kind of pack is a life saver ... PC, adapter, spare battery, 2 cameras, web access, digital voice/music recorder, notepads, markers, cables, snacks, water, cold or warm weather accessories, spare clothes/shoes and lots of small stuff all fit nicely into one pack that really distributes weight well and never digs or rubs in uncomfortable ways. A truly awesome pack I can highly recommend.

I was looking for the perfect bag to carry my books and laptop at college, and this is it! It's got a ton of pockets including room for a 15.4" laptop that straps securely in a padded pocket. Even with the laptop in the bag you can fit books and notebooks with no problem. I also carry around my AC adapter and a car charger with no worries. It's got a hard shell on the bottom of the bag to protect your computer from damage if it's dropped. You couldn't ask for more!

I read a few reviews which stated that there is no way that this bag will properly fit a 15.4" widescreen laptop. I just bought the bag and it fits my Dell Inspiron E1505 (which seems like a "full" sized 15.4" widescreen) easily.

I just wanted to set the record straight for anyone who is looking for a bag but afraid that their 15.4" widescreen won't fit. Unless you have some gigantic machine that I haven't crossed paths with, you'll be happy with this bag.

PS I first bought a OGIO Nyquist from eBags and found it to be a POS... unconfortable, HUGE, and my laptop didn't even fit into its ridiculous side zippered pocket.

I read hundreds of reviews for backpacks for my MacBook Pro 15". I bought this one after a lot of thought and comparison shopping.

I've had it since May of '07. I've used it for two week-long trips on planes and with lots of walking. I've used it for a 12-day conference on Stanford University's beautiful campus where I walked to every class/course and dining halls and events, etc. Typically I was carrying my laptop, a binder of papers, a notebook, pens, laptop charger, a sweater, calculator, ipod, phone, a few books, and some junk I carry around because I think I need to be like a boyscout and always be prepared for everything. Other than that, I've also used it to carry around my son's sports gear during a 2-day tournament along with things I needed to survive the 2-day event.

COMFORT

Incredibly comfortable. I hate carrying stuff around and yes, slung over one shoulder this thing is heavy. It's a big sturdy, well-crafted, back pack. It expands to atleast twice it's depth and holds a ton of stuff. BUT, once you actually put it on your back and fasten it and size it properly, it really doesn't feel heavy at all. I've walked miles and miles comfortably with it stuffed full.

BUILD

Very well built. I don't intend on taking care of it either but it still looks like it'll last years and years. Strong seams. Every place where rubber meets fabric and the zippers sewn in look made to withstand abuse and stress. It also held my laptop in place nicely. The laptop isn't position right against your back or on the outside layer so it has protection just by the nature of the laptop placement in addition to the padding provided.

LOOK

Looks like the pics. :)

FILLABILITY

Pack this thing full! I can put a 3-day weekend's worth of clothes, including extra shoes, and my toiletries (no bigger than 3 oz for flying!), a nice camera, hair dryer, etc. It has nice compartments for little things and bigger things. Has a cool mesh net zipped compartment for cables and such, and a special place for your mp3 player with a notch for your headphones.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Brenthaven MetroLite BP XF Laptop Bag

Brenthaven MetroLite BP XF X-Ray Friendly Laptop / Tablet / Ultrabook Backpack - BlackI am exremley pleased with this product. Brenthaven designed a bag that is comfortable, with great function, style and durability. I use this bag daily lugging my laptop and business material, walking the city all day I don't feel the weight of the cargo it's properly balanced with good padding on the back and thick shoulder straps.

The design is well thought out nothing hangs from the bag that can snag, the zippers are large and easy to use. The amount and size of the pockets and are accurate for day use and airline carry-on. Going through airport security is a breeze. I can easily take the bag off in a crowd and unzip to lay flat in the storage bucket; I don't take my laptop out of bag. On the backside there is kangaroo pocket to store the shoulder straps, which again makes it easy to carry in large crowds without out the worry of snagging.

I receive compliments from colleagues and fashion conscious friends for same reasons. The bag does its job without attracting attention to itself. Even though I use it daily in all weather the bag looks good and functions as the day I got it.

I am reassured that Brenthaven offers a lifetime warranty and is dedicated to creating a zero impact product.

This backpack has been to Korea, where it endured 8 months of weekly commutes between Seoul and the suburbs carrying a full load of gear (dSLR, external hard drives, 15" MacBook Pro, and tons of accessories, cables, and knick knacks). It has survived an additional year as a commuter in NYC, where it has been subjected to daily subway and bike rides. The bag has gone to CES, twice, where it saw countless bags that were far more expensive and it laughed. It's been to the tops of mountains in Colorado as well as to the beach, filled with sand and water and who knows what else, and my Brenthaven MetroLite still looks just as good as the day I bought it.

Well, okay, not quite as good, but pretty close! ;)

The second inside pocket (aka not the one meant for a laptop) turns out to be the perfect place to stash printed documents, folders, sketchpads or even my iPad. The bag generously grows to accomodate quite a bit of additional gear--I've stuffed it with tripods, video cameras, studio monitor headphones, Lacie firewire drives, clothes, wine bottles, and more. It takes it all. Yet it is comfortable, fairly adjustable, easily x-rayed, and somehow manages to fit under the seat in front of me in coach every time, no matter how meticulously packed.

The vast array of interior pockets initially confused me, but turn out to perfectly fit a variety of accessories. My pocket camera loves the padded pouch, and my iPod touch, Magic Mouse, and styluses have perfectly designed homes. The exterior pockets house essentials like toothpaste and hair gel and I have no fear of them exploding and taking out the rest of the bag.

The zippers are solid, and it's always quick to open and fish gear out of. This is huge--when you're on the go, you need a bag that works with you, not against you. My only complaint is that it doesn't offer much in the way of rain protection. I keep a plastic bag or two inside at all times to wrap precious electronics in case of emergency. This may be less of a concern if you have a car and aren't often caught walking endless blocks in Manhattan without an umbrella. That said, I've been caught unawares in a number of sudden downpours and haven't lost a single gadget yet, so maybe I'm just a tad paranoid.

Over the last two+ years, this thing has been my lifeline and hasn't let me down, not even for a minute. I could not possibly imagine recommending a product more. The price has dropped considerably since I first bought it at full MSRP--if you're in the market for a sleek bag to fit your 15" laptop, look no further--this is the one you're looking for.

Purchased this bag with a recommendation of the brand from my brother. Perfect size, its a slimmer profile than most laptop backpacks, but the compartment where your laptops goes is great, well cushioned with little jostling around, I know its safe. For me it was suggested to have a dedicated laptop bag and this fits the bill. I do put charger cord and small miscellaneous tech stuff in one of the outer pockets. Still keeps slimmer look. If you want to use for other stuff there are plenty of zippered pockets with smaller inner pockets for organizing. The zippers and materials are high quality!

I first saw Brenthaven backpacks here:The comments under the product review was actually what sold me on this bag. I received this bag this past Saturday and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! It feels like it was MADE for my Macbook (well... it was). I highly recommend it. The dedicated cord pocket at the bottom has been a major hit with me so far. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the fact that there is no outside pocket for pens and pencils; you have to actually get into the main pockets for that. As a college student, I'm frequently having to whip out a pen to jot something down quickly. Other than that though, this bag is a wonder.

Having gone through about 10 different laptop bags over the years, set out on a mission to find the perfect bag. The Brenthaven Metrolite is it. Great quality. Lightweight. Smart organizationnot too many useless pockets, not too few. TSA friendly.

Minor drawbacksno water bottle holder. Top handle could be a bit larger and beefier. They could add a side handle such that it can be carried on its side.

Truly a fantastic bag

Dora The Explorer Large Rolling BackPack - Dora Large Rolling School BagI think that my niece will love this bag for school, and she will be the envy of all her classmates. The bag looks sturdy and well made. I would recommend this bag to any Dora lover.
