Timbuk2 Proof Backpack
Pros:
1. Durable
2. Great laptop compartment
3. Light
4. Fits well on shoulders
Cons:
1. Price (a little on the expensive side)
2. Color (I ordered the blue and black, and the blue is definitely a more navy/dark blue than the one in the picture)
3. Does not have a sternum strap (I think one would add a lot to the bag)
Note: I am 5'8" and the bag fits me well. However, I would not recommend it to anyone much shorter than 5'8" because its a relatively tall backpack.
Overall its a sound replacement to my old backpack. Its a little bit on the expensive side, but I'd recommend the bag. This is a nice backpack for bicycle commuters. The pack is taller than most, but also thinner and less deep. That keeps it from shifting around on your back as you bike. A sternum or waist strap would help even more, so I'm knocking off one star for not including either. I suppose you could buy a sternum strap separately.
Note that this pack is not deep enough to hold a ton of school books, but you probably would not want to bike with that load anyway. I'm average height and on the skinny side and this pack fits me well. If you're a shorter guy or average sized woman, this pack may be too tall for you.
The laptop pocket is nicely padded and has a separate zipper access on the side (a nice feature). The Amazon description says the pack fits 17 inch laptops, but Timbuk2 hang tag advertises 15 inches. I suppose some larger laptops will fit, but some won't.
The U-lock pocket on the side of the pack is a real nice feature. It holds pretty securely, but an extra tie down strap would be nice. The pocket is also deep enough to hold a large bicycle water bottle.
Yes, the MSRP price is extremely high and it is not worth that price. However, since this pack has been discontinued, you should be able to buy it for less than half price, which is reasonable for a high quality pack that you use every day.

I've been a big fan of Timbuk2 bags. I have the medium Classic, and the large-sized Commute 2.0 messenger bags. They both still serve me well to this day. They're rather large for the amount of stuff I carry to work nowadays, so I was looking for something more compact, and the PROOF Backpack is just perfect for that.As with all Timbuk2 bags, this one is well designed from its fit & comfort, to the well laid out compartments, and the overall quality.
The PROOF Backpack is a slightly tall bag, but not so tall that you look like you're about to climb Mt. Everest with it. I'm 5'10", and it fits me just right. When adjusting the shoulder straps to my liking, it sits high on my back, but I don't really mind that.
It's a pretty good looking backpack too. I have the black/gunmetal color, and it's not gaudy or obnoxious, nor is it plain and dull. I can comfortably wear it to the office, without worrying that I look like an overgrown elementary school student.
I love that the PROOF Backpack is very sleek and compact, meaning it doesn't bulge out that much at all. I don't have to worry about bumping into fellow bus/subway commuters behind me while wearing it. That said, don't expect to carry a ton of stuff in this bag.
I usually carry the following items in this backpack:
1) 13" MacBook Air in its neoprene sleeve (the laptop compartment can easily store a 17" laptop)
2) 10" tablet
3) laptop/phone/tablet chargers
4) mouse
5) portable hard drive
6) Xbox 360 controller
7) sunglasses w/ case
8) compact umbrella
9) water bottle on the side
It would be great if the PROOF Backpack had a sternum strap for added stability; but who really goes hiking or climbing with a 17" laptop? Although, this bag is designed for bicycling, so yeah, it would come in handy for that.
Lastly, like most other Timbuk2 bags, the PROOF is a little pricey, but totally worth the price for its overall quality and design. I was very happy to find this on sale on Amazon just recently.

quality wise this is a great backpack, and i love the laptop compartment as it is its own separate compartment rather than a pocket. This keeps the laptop flush on your back and more comfy then it moving around inside. also very durable and and great in all weather conditions. very ergonomic tooi give it 3 stars though because it is too tall... when you ride a road bike and get low on the drop bars, when you tilt your head up my helmet hits the top of the pack. no biggie for short rides and probably won't happen on a mountain bike or hybrid where your stance is less bent over, but after a 55 mile ride my neck hurt from the additional pressure i was putting to keep my head up.
i now use this for travelling tho and it is great for that... but for biking i now have something else.

The backpack is not stiff like other new backpacks and, yet, it is very sturdy. It is long and roomy but compact,so quite comfortable and no bulk.It has elastic bands that hold the folded straps so you don't have excess strap sticking out everywhere. The material is pliant and thick and it has a nice lining all throughout the inside. It is a pretty, bright red pack and quite girly with it's baby blue threads and clips. This backpack is of far better quality than the North Face Recon that I owned previously. I have not used it in action yet but I'm looking forward to that.Read Best Reviews of Dakine Girls Heli 18-Litre Pro Pack Here

This backpack has, so far, withstood the abuse of my high school freshman son in and out of the car a bit of dragging tossing and kicking, without even a scuff! We usually go through several backpacks a year. Don't think it will happen this year. This pack is roomy and has several compartments easy to keep all items in it, including snack items and two drinks, and avoid trips to the locker in his busy school day (with very little passing time between classes). Padded straps make carrying it much easier. Clips instead of velcro or snaps (which we prefer less likely to wear or tear).I love the size, color, and the fact that it has a separate space for my laptop (VERY essential for the college student on-the-go) and the price was great. The quality is also very nice. The only downside is that the shoulder straps feel kinda awkward but you eventually get used to it, haha.

I really like the build, the compartments it has. It's super practical. I hate how some kid things are just way too small, even if they're made for older kids. This product is JUST RIGHT!very nice item it has a good fit for storing the books and notebook or some school supply that my son will use.... very light weight and good material on this product.......... highly recoommended

Loved the design, my son loves it.Loved the side pockets for the drinks, spacious enough for lunch bag and jacket
and loved the 2 front pockets for any important things or nicknacks that a 1st grader brings.
Not too heavy, easy pull up handles no problem with them and the wheels worked well so far.
Hopefully it can last up to a 1 yr or so at least.

First, I have to say the customer service at GearOutHere is second to none. I bought this bag and got a dud. The seller was so upset I received a bad product, he offered to replace it free of charge, even though i was beyond the Amazon return window. The bag itself is great, as advertised, i just had an issue with the straps. Replacement bags were great and quality was excellent. Thank you again GearOutHere. Many times when I go fishing or hunting I need to have my personal gear in one handy and dry place. When I need my wool shirt, down jacket or vest, suntan lotion, hunting knife, compass, and other personal gear, I know where it's at and it's dry, rain or shine.I used this to carry my books to school because it's been raining and book-bags always let water in and make my notebooks wet. So I carry about 2-3 notebooks, a laptop, my lunch, and a small pencil-case to school. The right strap just ripped off after a few days after receiving this. It looks to be weak threads glued onto the bag. I have included a photo:Swissgear Wheeled Computer Case
The case is big along with the handy laptop bag that slips perfecty on the carry handle.
It is well built, roll smoothly & very convenient.
I bought it for 2-3 day biz trips where the capacity is ideal & I take everything on board.
The only drawback is the lack of mini pocket on the laptop hand bag.
Other than that, great product for great price.

I bought a Swiss Gear rolling bag for work. The wheels are not nearly large enough but that's NOT the big problem...the BIG problem is the handle system. This is my second bag and the second time the handles broke.
There was a 10 year warranty...but OH my...did they give me a hard time.
They did replace the bag...but same problem a little while later...the handles either stick in the up position, or worse...the collapsed position.
The covering on the handle fell apart.
This company obviously does not make cases for everyday use!
No more Swiss gear for me. Shame...the rest of the bag was OK.I have had this bag for over a year now and am getting great use from it. I travel a lot, so having something that can keep up is important to me.Handle locked in raised position after only 3 weeks. Had to ship home from business trip via FedEx. Refused service under lifetime warranty by Wenger because I could not find original sales receipt. Choose another brand.
OGIO Endurance 9.0 27" Duffel
I needed a bag that would fill the following conditions:
Pack it completely on the last of my consecutive days off, to take with me to my station for three days of riding in the morning after coming off shift, complete with before-ride and during ride nutrition, shoes, bottles, and all of my electronics;
Keep my helmet, Halo pro-tex, and Oakley lenses/cleaner all together INSIDE the bag;
Store all of the other accouterment essential to riding stored as well, including sunscreen, chamois cream, embrocation, extra gloves, arm warmers, leggings, shoe covers for cold weather, recovery drink mix, extra gels and other nutrition items, extra hydration drink mix, and so forth.
I still use this bag every day for my cycling gear and needs, and I can't imagine living without it now. I have one thing I don't particularly care for about this bag, and that's the lack of a shoulder strap, but to be honest it's not that big a deal to me personally. The straps permit it to be worn like a backpack, but I have never found any need to carry it that way either.
Just for the record, this is a LARGE bag. If you are looking for just a generic, everyday to-the-gym bag, this bag will probably be too much for that. This bag is definitely aimed at people who race, or do a lot of training on bikes (or triathlons), and really does an outstanding job at that.

there's a pocket for everything, I have all the stuff i want with me when i go ride and i know where everything is, after my ride i throw my sweaty gear in the vented pocket underneath, put my shades in the sun glass pocket and grab my recovery drink from the outside bottle pocket and I'm good to go. You can tell that they have really put some thought into this bag every detail is great, the handles that double as shoulder straps are comfy and handy, I love the vented sweaty clothes pocket, the sunglasses pocket was initially too small for the case of my Radar Switch lock glasses, but oh wait they have made it so that you can take the protective insert out of the pocket so it can fit larger glasses cases. they really have through of everything and the quality is great. the only thing that's a bit of a pain but there is no getting around is that if you stick your shoes in the shoe pocket and say, your camel bak in the opposite pocket, there really isn't a whole lot of room in the main pocket, particularly if you use the awesome helmet pocket. but really unless they found a way to defy physics there is no way around this.I took this bag with me on a trip to Colorado and you would not believe the bag envy from my fellow riders.

I love this bag. Large separate vented area for wet / dirty clothes. Large main compartment for main gear. 2 side compartments, 1 big enough for 2 pairs of shoes. A hard case area for things like GPS watch, MP3, earphones etc. A cell phone hard shell area. You can carry it like a duffle bag or wear it like a back pack. The only down sides (and this is very minor) is it might actually have too many pockets. I can't find anything to use the smaller side nutrition etc pockets for. Luckily, they don't take much space, so I don't feel like any space is wasted, more like an option that I just don't take advantage of.I have had many gym bags. I have used duffle bags, duffle bags with several compartments, back packs, etc. This thing is far and away the best bag I have had, and was totally worth the money.I took this through an airport and somehow black grease from the luggage belt got smeared on the white part. I couldn't scrub it off. I regret buying white.
