Timbuk2 Freestyle Plus Messenger Bag
We have way too many Timbuk2 bags etc.. This thing is the perfect size for my purposes. Canteen style Nalgene water bottle, light jacket or sweater, all your basic other crap, and of course my iPad fit perfectly. With these daily essentials it is not overloaded or packed too tight. It does not feel too bulky while 'wearing' it. My only suggestion of improvement is that it needs the magnets that hold the flap closed similar to another of my Tim2 bags. The Velcro will eventually get less grippy and yes I can replace the Velcro but the magnet system is FAR superior. Loves me some Timbuk2.

This bag fits the bare essentials well. I fit the following things in it and it will still close easily: MacBook Air 11", 1 Spiral notebook, pens, charger, kindle fire (small version), computer lock, small bottle of Advil, a few feminine products, ecig kit the size of a small pencil case, 3 flash drives, and ear buds. It is a very small bag, but holds what I need and nothing more (which keeps it light). The laptop sleeve will not accommodate a MacBook that has a hard plastic shell cover (like mine that has a Maclocks case screwed into the bottom), but I can slide the laptop behind the sleeve and then put a spiral behind it for added protection (which I guess the hard case would also provide to an extent) and use the sleeve for my kindle. (this inability to put my Air in the sleeve was why it got 3 stars instead of 5) The strap is well designed and wide enough to distribute the weight but not so wide that is impossible to use as a courier bag for me (and I am on the busty side). Also the Velcro is incredibly strong, so if you're lazy like me an don't always use the clips close the bag, the Velcro will offer moderate protection from things falling out. The bag fell of the passenger seat of my car and landed upside-down in the floorboards and the Velcro held--nothing fell out of the bag, even from the sides. I would like to see a few more internal pockets, but that would also mean making the bag larger, and the whole point of this bag is for it to be small. The styling is excellent, and I use it as a work bag as well, so it dresses up or down well.To sum up: if you want a very small courier bag that is well designed and the biggest thing you need to transport is an 11" Macbook Air sans plastic shell, or an iPad, then this bag is an excellent choice. If you need to put anything bigger than that (even a clip board or Air in a plastic shell) then you should size up in your messenger bag selection.

Clear PVC Backpack with Black Trim
This backpack is OK for the price. However the strings broke very fast. I would not buy this backpack again. I would rather spend a couple more dollars and buy a better one (maybe even mesh)
Brenthaven MetroLite Backpack, Black/Red (2252101)
The top handle stitching broke within a month. Had to pay to ship it back to Washington for repair, going for a week and a half with no bag. After I got it back, the same thing happened again a few weeks later (this time on the other side of the handle). Sent it back again (again at my expense of cost and time). Once the seam bursts like it has, it starts ripping down the length of the rest of the seam, at which point it's only held to the bag by weak stretchy material that will soon rip itself. They would not refund the item (after 14 days from the date of purchase), only repair, replace, or maybe exchange. I only carry my macbook pro in it--I do not abuse the bag. I have reinforced the top handle of this third bag myself by wrapping it up in duct tape. The rest of the bag is good.

I currently own a Apple Macbook Pro 15' inch and had been everywhere looking for a backpack that would suit my needs. I took a risk and waited for the Amazon to get in stock ($46) compared to the 3rd party dealers ($76+). Once when it arrived, I was more than pleased. Even a friend of mine ordered one after seeing mine for the first time.What you can't make out in the pictures to clearly is:
The bottom part of it features a compartment that stores your AC Adapter perfectly (roll the cords).
There are also 2 slim pockets on the front where I keep a cloth and 2 chargers for my phone and digital camera.
What is pictured and shown well, is the outside pocket that has enough room for two hard drives (WD Passports) in cases and side by side, as well as extra peripherals and my digital camera.
The main pocket for the computer is roomy enough and maybe you could fit a book in with it (pending on the size of the laptop & how much stuff is in the other pockets.)
It also doesn't bulge at the zippers when it's fully loaded and still looks the same size.
Overall with the comfort of the straps and all the storage I need, this will come in handy when I backpack in different countries.
It also has zippers that fit small travel padlocks. Bonus!

I got this some months ago but have only used it very moderately. At the beginning I was excited about this product because of the brenthaven brand name, the looks, and the quality of the product (or at least I thought). The deal breaker was the quality of the straps. The left strap got torned for absolutely no reason, which has opened my eyes to the cheap quality of the material (at least on the straps). The reality is that the fabric is very thin on the straps which is why it got teared apart. I can now see the padding inside the strap, and I'm afraid of using the backpack anymore because it could open a bigger hole on the strap. I hate dealing with returns especially when I have to pay for the shipping and everything, but I will definitely be contacting amazon and/or brenthaven about this. I purchased the MetroLite from Amazon over a year ago, but didn't start to use it on a regular basis until last summer. Overall, I really liked the pack and didn't buy it to haul a ton of stuff, but simply my MacBook Pro, a magazine, and extra glasses to and from work. I thought a thin backpack would help keep me balanced and ease my back pain -and it did -but didn't want something so large that it would knock into other commuters. So the MetroLite fit the bill perfectly.After about a month of use the left nylon strap, where it connects to the padding, tore out. I was unwilling to send it back, so I had my tailor open the seam and reattach. A month later the other strap started to tear -back to the tailor. At that point I started treating the bag very delicately since I liked it so much and wanted to get a little more life out of it.
Last month, the top handle tore on one side and is starting to on the other, similar to what other buyers stated here. At this point I contacted Brenthaven and told them my full story. They were very nice and sent me a new pack the larger XF, and asked for nothing in return except for a picture of my older bag. Although the new pack is nice, with a much better handle, it is much larger (which I don't need very often), and the strap connection points are identical to the ones that already failed on the older bag.
Most likely, I'm going to get my original bag fixed, I think I might just have the whole handle replaced with a simple nylon strap. It seems they put too much into the 2252 handle, with different fabric top and bottom, foam, and a plastic plate on top of the foam. There are simply too many failure points, whether it be the seams tearing or the plate poking through the top material.
So, why did I give the pack three stars (actually two and a half would have been better) -because I like the bag. The fact that I'm willing to pay my tailor three times to fix it shows that. It is everything I was looking for - the right size, slim, good number/layout of pockets, light weight, etc. I also like the company, what they stand for, and thought their customer service was excellent.
Should you buy this bag? That depends on your needs and whether you have the patience or resources to deal with the inevitable failure. Nothing lasts forever, I typically go through a computer bag every two years, but if you find something that works you're usually willing to overlook certain deficiencies since everything else it so good.

i would like for it to distribute the load on my back but i feel that it makes me feel like it puts all or most of the pressure in two points in my upper back and lower back, which strains my middle back.the straps a little bit narrow and were starting to come off after only 2 months of use, without putting in it anything heavier than clothes.

These backpacks are really compact. They however are not made of the thickest material. They are also not overly huge. They will work or a few items though.

I purchased this bag looking for a small bag for hiking. I have an existing Tamrac bag that I was using, but was far too bulky for most short hikes. This bag is perfect for just that.The bag itself has two main pockets, each divided into smaller segments. The largest pocket has a divider inside making two compartemts. One compartment will just hold a 100oz hydration bladder, and the other I have packed with a large point and shoot and foot long hogie. Unfortuately the smaller pocket is very small, just enough room for a handful of granola bars, extra batteries, memory cards, film (for those of us who still use it), etc.
Clik Elite makes camera gear, so the main question is what size camera can fit. First off I would never put a DSLR in there! Nowhere near enough space or protection. Maybe just a DSLR body in a rainy emergeny, but only then. However, the bag does have ample room for a point and shoot, advanced point and shoot, or 4/3 camera and a spare lens.
The build of the bag is excellent, not quite as good as I would want for the price though. One of the selling points of the bag is that it can attach to Clik Elite DSLR holsters, which they refer to as chest packs. I don't have any so I can comment on how well they work together. I can, however, say that the shoulder straps have nice attachement points to which I have put carabiner to attach camera straps to prevent spills.
Overall, I am very happy with the purchase.
The North Face Heckler Backpack
I finally decided to post a review about my Heckler backpack from The North Face. I'll start by saying that if this one ever wears out, I'm just going to buy another one.I bought the backpack in December of 2009 and since then it has experienced 6 semesters of college, 2 1/2 months of working at a summer camp, and a two week trip in China. After all that it's still in near perfect condition, the only sign of wear appears to be a water retardant clear-coat that lines the inside of the bag.
What this bag offers you is durability, capacity, versatility, and organization.
DURABILITY: After everything I've put it though it's lasted me this long and appears to have many years ahead of it.
CAPACITY: The main compartment is enormous. During the trip to china I used it as my carry-on. It held my toiletries, a change of clothes as well as a rain jacket, 32 oz. water bottle, and two books with a notebook. Inside of the main compartment there is a laptop sleeve with a velcro strap, as well as two 3x7 pockets attacked to the front wall. In the smaller pocket there is a pocket that can hold multiple books (depending on the size, I put a Bible and notebook in mine), as well as two more smaller pockets that could easily fit a cell phone. There are three pencil holders. And then of course you have the main pocket that you could stuff anything into. There is one more zip pocket above the one just discussed for an MP3 player with a hole for a headphone cord. I usually store my IPhone in this pocket during class for quick availability. On the side of the bag you have two adjustable straps with a buckle function designed to compress or expand the pack as you see fit. Under them there is a bungee equipped water bottle holder, again, I use a 32 oz. water bottle, so it's pretty big. On the front of the pack there are multiple loops made of a durable material that you can easily clip a carabiner to or tie a rope to attach something too big for the adjustable bungee. I have fit a pair of tennis shoes in the bungee, for a capacity reference. On the bottom of the pack there are two adjustable straps that can be used for whatever purpose you see fit. I can see them being used to carry around a compressed sleeping bag, I've used mine to carry around a towel on occasion. The straps of the pack offer two buckles that can offer support when you clip them around your torso, as well as two D-rings and one small pocket that can hold a small cell phone or in my case, a pocket-knive/multi-tool.
**a side note about the capacity. I worked a second summer at the camp after my first with the Heckler and received as a gift a Columbia Half Track. They asked that we use the packs during school for advertisement but I just couldn't do it! the pack was so small compared to my heckler I had to switch back.
VERSATILITY: I have used this pack in many contexts and it fits them all. If your outdoors hiking and need a hefty day-pack or if your in school and have to carry around a lot of books.
ORGANIZATION: being organized is a major thing for me. Not only do I want to be able to carry a lot, I want to know where to find it within 10 seconds of looking. With all the various sized pockets available on the pack, that is 100% possible.
The only thing left to be spoken of is the price. I'll be honest, I'm usually cheap but I am willing to spend big money on things that I know are going to be quality and that I'm going to use a lot. I have never had an unhappy moment with my Heckler, never been frustrated that I can't fit something or attach a thing. And no unhappy moments with my Heckler is worth the $80 bucks I paid for it. And like I said, I will be buying a new one when this one wears out (if it does).

I am a college student in my junior year, I purchased this pack 5 years ago and I still use it daily for school and just about everything else. It is perfect for a student due to the laptop sleeve for a 15 in laptop and plenty of other space for books and notebooks. There are plenty of pockets and organizers throughout the pack. I'm a 17 year old guy who bought this backpack as a present for my baby sister(well, she's 9 but yeah). The price was excellent (around six dollars)which was the main reason I bought this.As for the backpack itself, it is pretty good. I thought it would be a cheap sort of plastic thing that would only last a few months but I was wrong. The fabric it is made out of is quite thick and durable which is good since the rainy season is upon us. I'm confident that her little books and homework will be kept safe and dry.
Another thing I liked was the fast shipping and the smell of the backpack. Yes, I said smell. It may be weird but I immeadiately noticed that good new backpack smell which reassured me that it wasn't used or tampered with in any way. Another little feature that my sister liked was the "purse" thingy. It's not really a purse; it's more like a little girl wallet thing but she thought it was cool.
Overall, little girls will like this and it makes a nice gift. My sister liked it so much that she is actually saving it for a "special occassion" or something.

Don't put a sack of potatoes in it, but I believe this bag's quality could take it. I really like this nice looking and well made bag. Perfect size, not too small, area at top with strong fish netting vents damp clothing or towels if you left the beach or gym. First I'd say that the case looks pretty much exactly like what is pictured. And guys, while I guess it technically is a floral design on the accent and liner, to me it just looks sort of abstract geometric pattern or maybe like pebbles. One nice feature is rather than just zipping across the top, the zipper actually goes almost around two sides (making an L shape), so its easy to slip your Air in and lay it in the sleeve rather than just drop or slide. The extra zipper on the front opens about 10 inches across and is about 7.25 inches deep, so it is good room to put a power cord and maybe a few other small things.One thing that I didn't expect, especially after reading the other earlier reviews on here, was is that it doesn't fit the MacBook Air 11.6 inch quite as snug as I anticipated. While it fits snuggly across the width of the computer, there is more than an inch of space to the top zipper. So, depending on how you use it, I suppose the MacBook could shift around a little. However, holding it by the handles, or just putting it in your bag, it seems to mostly stay put. There is a little more padding than just a neoprene sleeve, so I feel pretty good about the case protecting my computer from minor bumps.
After getting my Air back in December, I spent a bit of time looking for a good case that would fit the MacBook Air properly. I've looked in brick and mortar stores, as well as other places online, and this is by far the best I've seen, both by form and for the price.
* Very nicely designed case for the 11 inch mac book air.
* Small enough to fit easily into a backpack but large enough (and has sturdy handles) to carry around on its own.
* Offers a good deal of padding (more padding than I expected, considering that it's so small).
* Subtle, classy design you can't really see it in the Amazon image but there's a bit of a floral pattern running across the front of the case.
An all around good mac book air case and would probably work well with other similarly-sized laptops and netbooks.

My husband gave me an I Pad for Christmas and because I already had a Kindle and a dedicated pocket in my bag for it, I did not know how to protect the I Pad. This bag comes with padding for protection without bulk.The fabric has a subtle pattern that makes it recognizable among the black and grey ballistic nylon bags that are so common these days. I have carried this bag inside briefcases and large purses and even tote bags. This is easy because it is only slightly larger than the electronics it protects. It has protected the IPad from assaults by a three year old grandchild, large dogs and a husband that does not notice that the back seat already has been occupied before throwing a suitcase in. This bag still looks like new despite its travels and I even make sure that the IPad is in it before I fall asleep. It is the best insurance for your electronic carry all/know all device! This is a great case. Very streamlined, yet it still has a zipper pocket to securely store discs, cords, papers or whatnot.It is nice to put into a backpack or larger back because, unlike with hardcase covers, it doesn't take up a lot of room with a hard shell. It is snug too which is a good thing for maximum packing ability. The zipper pocket is not obvious, which is great; I feel fine keeping extra cash in this pocket for when we are on a trip and having coffee while checking our email.
The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because the fabric feels a little cheap, not enough to make me not love it, but I wish it felt less like a quilted tablecloth. This is a nice padded case that I use for my Eee netbook (@ 10.5" wide). The netbook fits nicely with a little extra room for a mouse & the cords. There is a nice large storage pocket in the front of the case, so well hidden that you'd not notice it if it wasn't for the zipper pull tab. The pocket is not gusseted but provides a nice space for a mouse pad or some other thin item.
Some may not like the flower, rocks, or whatever it is design but it's unobtrusive and it's really not feminine or masculine. The fabric is woven polyester that should be durable and is a nice charcoal gray. The nylon zipper is fine; not a heavy duty model but should be fine for most people. The handles are the same polyester fabric as the case & have a stiffener in the inside. I like that they are meant to stay folded down when not in use; it makes it easy to pack this case inside luggage or a briefcase. The handles won't stick up and get in the way. The inside fabric is a lighter gray with the same flower, rock, whatever design in a larger scale.
