AmeriLeather Classical Leather Organizer Briefcase

AmeriLeather Classical Leather Organizer BriefcaseLet me be clear--I love this briefcase. Aesthetically, I think it's elegant and utilitarian, and practically, it fits my needs. My complaints come from 6 months of use, and the wear and tear its gone through despite my efforts at meticulous care.

The pros: I get lots of compliments on it, and it fits everything I need--Macbook, 4 novels put in vertically side-by-side, a folder full of documents, and assorted pens, make-up, phone, and other accessories. It's generous with its room, but not so generous that you can pack a lunch. The bag is divided into 3 compartments, which helps with organization. There's a handy slim back pocket that's zippered for papers.

The cons: Everything must be accessed by lifting the flap, from my bus pass to my phone to my wallet. It's definitely a hassle. I wish there were smaller pockets, or even just one on the front or side that allowed for easy access to everyday items. But instead, I have to do the work of unbuckling each buckle, lifting the flap, and digging around for what I need when I need it. The buckles must be latched or they clack loudly while walking. Small items swim around in the huge compartments and eventually get lost, and the smaller compartments, designed to hold say a phone or pens, are not very well measured. My pens don't fit and my iPhone is too small.

The reason this review went down from 4 solid stars to 3 (and possibly 2): The piece of folded leather that holds the strap hook broke while I was walking in the snow. I fell and my Macbook, even while encased in the briefcase, suffered a massive ding in the corner. I bought this briefcase on 9/18 and started using it just a few days afterward, then on 2/6 the briefcase strap broke. My briefcase was out of commission for 2 weeks while the leather shop repaired the strap, which cost me $45.

Verdict: the briefcase is beautiful and elegant and worth the money if you're not carrying more than 15 lbs and don't mind carrying your phone and wallet on your person. But if you carry your wallet in your bag, routinely carry more than 15lbs and need easy access to your things all the time, I'd pass.

When I decided to purchase this briefcase, I got the distinct impression from the advert that it was american-made with american leather and that the specifications would be impeccable owing to the money I spent on it. To my disappointment, I saw on the tag that it was made in China, and although China can make many good products, this one had obvious faults. The buckles do not line up with the receptacles, so the buckle straps always look skewed. Some of the thread on the sewings were broken and the sewing lines were uneven. If I had not already taken it out of the country to do executive work, I would promptly return it. I will continue looking for a "good" bag, even if I have to pay more for it.

And no, I would not recommend it to anyone else.

Disney Princess Large Rolling Backpack

Disney Princess Large Rolling BackpackI bought this backpack for my niece and she loved it. She carries a bunch of heavy books to school, so this back pack really helps her keep all that weight off her back. It was a good price and it arrived in time for me to take it on my trip to go visit her.

This product is as good as was advertised I was pleased to buy it so I thank you .

Targus DKSBP1 Madison Video Backpack

Targus DKSBP1 Madison Video BackpackInterior can be separated into upper and lower compartments with a "shelf" that velcroes in. Lower one has zip side opening for removal of lower contents/camera without disturbing upper contents. This is great for using two cameras, or just separating all your "stuff" from the camera.

My Rebel XTi fits fine in lower compartment with standard lens. It takes a bit of practice to get it in/out through the side zipper with the 70/300 lens, but it fits fine. My Sony HDR-HC3 Handicam takes up only half that compartment.

Zip pocket in front offers a bit more space for accessories, keys, etc. A couple other small pockets would have been great, though it's sleeker looking w/o them. As it is, I could easily carry the DSLR, 2 lenses, the video camera, and a point and shoot camera (my usual gear) and still have room for keys and wallet.

My biggest difficulty with it is that the strap is long enough for use as a backpack, but the bag is really kinda small to be worn that way. Using the strap over the shoulder is much more likely and yet the straps are really too narrow and unbalanced to make that comfortable. I would have preferred that the strap be comfortable for shoulder carrying, since that is the most likely way it will be used.

It does do a good job of protecting and separating camera gear. It's spacious. And neutral enough that I can sometimes get my husband to carry it. Only problem is the strap and balance...traveling in cities with it on your back is just asking to have someone snap it (no zipper on top) open and grab your stuff.

I'd probably be less happy if I'd paid full price, at the $20 I paid for it, I can put up with the strap.

Travel Smart by Conair Mini Umbrella, Black

Travel Smart by Conair Mini Umbrella, BlackI just finished repairing this umbrella. I am in Costa Rica during rainy season and I used it in town for less than an hour before the cloth started coming off the frame. Good thing I brought my sewing kit. Go to the drugstore and buy an umbrella; same or better quality and no shipping costs.

PROS:

* Compact

* Lightweight

* Cheap

CONS:

* Somewhat flimsy

* Suitable for light or moderate rain, but probably not windy storms

As I summarized above, I think this umbrella is suitable for light-to-moderate rain. Its small size when compacted also helps it fit nicely in my bag as a "backup" umbrella in case of unexpected rain (or days where I don't want to bring a larger, sturdier umbrella for whatever reason). I think that is the best use for it--I would *not* want to rely on this in case of heavy rain (you'd probably want a wider umbrella) or windy days (it will flip inside out; get a sturdier one for those days).

Besides the size and weight advantages, the other advantage is the price--but at this price point you should know you're not getting the best quality. One of the metal "arms" that supports the umbrella has already bent for me in what I'd consider average storm wind, and I suspect a few other bends or breakages won't be far behind. Still, this may be acceptable for you if you think you'll use it rarely, need a small umbrella, don't have much wind, and don't mind the umbrella occasionally flipping the wrong way. I don't think you can expect much more at this price.

Puerto Rico Flag Messenger Bag - Shoulder Bag - Laptop Bag

Puerto Rico Flag Messenger Bag - Shoulder Bag - Laptop BagGot this for the Puerto Rico "flash" and was amazingly surprised about the versatility. The bag is plenty big for a laptop! I carry my ipad in it and it is huge. There are 2 front zippered pockets for wallet, chargers and anything else really. There is also a letter size (probaly 11 x 14) pocket that keeps papers neat. So far, it feels great on the shoulder or accross the chest. I like the material, seems durable.

Deuter ACT Trail 32

Deuter ACT Trail 32 BackpackI used it during the Everest Base Camp Trek in Nepal and now as a daily backpack to carry my laptop and training stuff :)

Very durable and organized.

Great compartments in the uper cover.

Very convenient to access your stuff through the zipper like taking stuff from the bottom without the need to empty your bag.

Very comfortable on the back.

Very comfortable even with heavy load. Great quality and durability. Highly recommended for hiking. I also like how the bottom opens.

I carried this backpack throughout Europe for one month last summer, with between 15-20 pounds of gear, and I do not believe I thought about it once. I wasn't tugging at shoulder straps, cinching and uncinching, bouncing it up and down, etc. I have worn a lot of packs, and for me there is no contest this is the best I've worn. It just seems to fit me like a glove. The features are surprising and robustly made. It is easy to open the bag up to access gear below or above without dismantling the whole thing. The bungees on the outside expand beautifully to accomodate a helmet or large jacket. There are two top pockets for small things. There is a hook for keys, so that they don't fall out when you are not paying attention. The rain cover is so convenient and unnoticeable when you are not using it, tucked away in a small pocket on the underside of the pack. The chest strap, can be moved up and down ingeniously, with just enough friction to hold it in place, but not enough to make moving it difficult. The side pockets don't accomodate much, and certainly not bulky items, and if you do have something larger than perhaps 6 Clif bars you should load it in the side pockets first. In short, I love this pack!

I sooo wanted to give this 5 stars. Deuter's reputation is excellent and the bag appeared to be no exception but, for me, there aren't enough pockets to organize things compared to some other high quality and less expensive bags. This bag is probably still a good option for others

Was looking for both function and aesthetics and this bag filled the bill. My wife loves the design and the utility. Actually she packs the laptop, power supply, and Verizon MyFi all in the bag without a problem though it does stretch out a bit. Good handle and optional shoulder strap (which she doesn't use). Since she is a realtor and always on the go, it s used daily and has been standing up pretty well. This has been a solid purchase.

Dakine Girls Session Back Pack

Dakine Girls Session BackPackI bought this pack for my wife and she really liked it. She is 5'1" and it fit her great. The only issue was that it did not come with a bladder (as advertised and listed on the tag) but I have extras so no worries.

I love this backpack mainly for two reasons. The first being it's many many pockets. I love being able to put my things in this bag without digging for them later. The second is the size. On longer hikes it was such a pain carrying a larger pack and getting sweaty because it was so large and heavy. With this bag it's nice and slim and lets your back breathe a bit more. I would've loved to have a net or two on the sides for extra bottles of water on longer hikes, because sometimes I use the hydration pack as an ice pack for warmer days, but as that's not what the backpack is meant for, I still kept the 5th star :)

Travelpro Crew 8 22 Inch Expandable Rollaboard Suiter

Travelpro Crew 8 22 Inch Expandable Rollaboard Suiter,Black,One SizeI'm an airline pilot and have been using 22" Travelpro Rollaboards for the past 15 years. Recently the handle on my Crew 5 broke. Coincidentally my bag arrived broken after checking it on a recent trip. I have found that my Travelpro bags last indefinitely and look like new if I keep them in my control as carry-on bags but it only takes a few times as checked baggage to ruin them.

So I decided to order the Crew 8 since my handle was broken on the Crew 5 and I was awaiting a replacement handle. Every Travelpro bag I've upgraded to has been a continual process of improvement with the new bag being nicer than the previous in layout and features. Unfortunately this was not the case with the Crew 8. I am a professional traveler and pack very efficiently into a 22' bag. I can go on a 10 day trip with the contents, no problem. The Crew 8 has only 2 external zippered compartments while the Crew 5 had 4. If you like to have access to some items without having to open the bag and rifle through the contents then the Crew 8 is a downgrade from the Crew 5. The Crew 8 looks good from the outside but the inside is very basic. It's almost as if Travelpro took an off-the-shelf bag available from China and put their badge on it. I basically pack a similar version of the same contents into my bag for each trip. I tried to get the same contents I routinely pack into my Crew 5 into the Crew 8 and it was very difficult. There is no carrier for toiletries and other misc. items like in the Crew 5. There is no compartment on the inside of the lid (just a simple zippered net) where I would put t-shirts, socks, pants, etc. Funny thing is, after I had the Crew 8 packed it looked bloated and stuffed compared to having the same items in the Crew 5. The Crew 5 was a well thought out, functional bag for the professional traveler. The Crew 8 in my opinion is a bag to take when you can pack lightly for a long weekend at best.

A few years back, Travelpro split its luggage lines into two series: The "CrewX" series is designed to be pretty and marketed to consumers, while the "FlightCrewX" is designed to be rugged and is marketed directly to pilots and crew. The "Crew8" series is the current version marketed to consumers and the "FlightCrew4" is the current version that is marketed to pilots and crew.

I bought this bag before I came to this realization, and have been disappointed ever since. I hate the design of this bag. While it is light, it is much too flimsy to any kind of heavy duty use. Travelpro included a relatively cheap, but pretty design on the attachment strap and the short handle, both of which are sure to break with significant use. They've also rotated the axis of the long handle so as to make it harder to slide an extra bag over them. The front pockets are designed for appearance instead of utility, and so the zippers have a funny looking "U" shape and the pockets actually overlap, while being too thin to really hold anything. The nylon is a thin weave designed to have a nice "shine" instead of being resistant to damage.

I later purchased a Travelpro FlightCrew4 22" bag from an online store that caters to pilots and flight crew. What a bag! Nice sturdy ABS frame, real inline skating wheels, heavy duty handles with the axis in the correct direction, well-laid out pockets, and heavy duty nylon -and $40 cheaper! The only problem is that it is a bit larger than Travelpro claims. So, now I use the 20" instead.

I also own a Kirkland 22" suiter (available only at Costco), which is better than this one and only $99.00.

So, do yourself a favor: Skip anything in the Crew8 series (or any of Travelpro's consumer lines) and buy the FlightCrew4 from an online retailer or get the 22" Kirkland at Costco.

I am a frequent traveler and carry-on whenever possible. My go-to bag was a 24" Victorinox. Like all of my Victorinox bags, this failed on my last trip leaving with the need to replace it on short notice. I went online and read reviews on many bags and Travelpro kept coming up as a good affordable option. I currently have a large Travelpro bag and I'm happy with it so I figured I would give the smaller version a try so i purchased on my Prime account with overnight delivery. The bag arrived as advertised and the quality was better than I could imagine.

My first observation was that this 22" bag was expandable so I could "sneak" a couple extra days worth of clothes into an overhead approved bag. I did so on my first trip out. I was amazed that the bag still fit into the overhead wheels first. As any traveler knows, this makes finding a space for your bag much easier than.

Another observations was the substantial feel of the handle. This was the part on my Victorinox that failed so it was important to me that the handle be able to support the weight of my backpack resting up against it. The bag also rolled freely over carpet, tile and asphalt. It was very easy to move around. And it stood straight even when expanded.

I have to say that one of my favorite surprises is the water bottle holder. This simple zip-out compartment easily folds a standard 16 to 24 ounce water bottle making it accessible when you need it. A great feature for sure!

All in all I'd have to say that I[m thrilled with the bag. I think I paid under $140 delivered. I stopped into Dillards the other day and teh same bag there was $400. Amazon came through yet again!

The first time I attempted to use this luggage was on 1-27-2011 on Continental Airlines.

While the advertised size is the correct dimensions of the main frame of the bag including a advertised width of 9 inches, the true width of the bag even with nothing in the front pockets and the main bag NOT expanded is slightly over 10 1/2 inches. It was the width of the bag that kept it from fitting into the metal frame provided by Continental airlines that only allows a 9 inch width. At the boarding area I was required to check the bag at the time of boarding. I had to remove my laptop and other fragile items to put in a tiny tote which was the only other thing I had with me for this trip.

The large zipper pocket on the front of the bag is designed to hold a laptop computer. My laptop did fit in the pocket while the bag was laying on a flat surface for the purpose of packing. Upon removing the laptop at airport security screening, the zipper on the front pocket separated when opening, and I could not zip the pocket closed.

This is the first time I have used this bag for travel, and it was a nightmare. First it is not the advertised size, so I had to check it, rather than being able to carry it on the plane. The items packed in the bag were considered safe for carry on, but not for normal handling of luggage.

The fact the zipper did not function properly on the very first use, was a serious issue as well.

For the cost and the reputation of this luggage, I am a very unsatisfied customer.

Want Travelpro Crew 8 22 Inch Expandable Rollaboard Suiter Discount?

I bought it through Altman Luggage via Amazon. Total price was $159 including shipping. The case took exactly one week from the point I ordered through Amazon to when it arrived on my doorstep.

The case is much lighter than my generic brand 22inch roller I got from my dad many years ago. While the small booklet states that the case will not meet airline carry-on regulations when expanded, I have a feeling that it will fit in most non-regional overhead bins even when expanded.

The biggest issue I have is that the 22inch does not have inner mesh pockets inside the larger outer pocket, as the marketing photos on some websites show. (The pockets I'm talking about are not the two mesh pockets that are in the main compartment of the case). Many luggage sellers, including Amazon, show the same marketing photo for the 20inch and the 22inch models, where the outer pocket is opened and there are mesh pockets in there that hold an iPhone, pens, wallet, etc as well as a laptop sleeve. My 22inch does not have any of these pockets and sleeves. My cell phone, keys, wallets, and tickets will all be at the bottom of a fairly deep pocket, and not organized as in the photos. The lack of these small compartments to hold such items led me to take two stars off from my review. (Even $50 bags sold at Walmart have them)

Both the wheels and the handles seem fine, though I'm not sure how durable the plastic handle will be if I ever need to pick up the case at the handle when the case is packed full.

Overall, I'm happy with the case, but am disappointed by the misleading marketing photos.

Seal Line Urban Shoulder Bag

Seal Line Urban Shoulder BagIve had one of these for about 5 years now. It's still in perfect condition. Unbelievable build quality inside and out. Taken it camping and on the raft ride in Disneyland (you know the one) and the water resistant pouch kept everything bone dry. I'm in dis-belief about just how solid everything still on this bag is after 5 years, seriously not a single scratch or tear. Holds everything I need, laptops included. Especially great for biking.
