I noticed particularly after getting stuck in the rain and left soggy all day at school with wet clothes in the bottom... this bag went from smelling bad to smelling worse. It's a chemical type odor which is said to be somewhat common in this type of product though in all my years I never smelled such a stench from a new backpack! It smells worse than the stench of a very old and ratty used backpack to be honest. It does appear that it will hold up well, seems a durable product. My son doesn't notice or care about the smell so that's a plus. You also may not notice the smell if you don't stick your head in the bag! If you have a young child like mine however, you need to search around all the nooks of their bag daily. I have read that putting newspaper in the bag and leaving it in the sun or heating with a blowdryer can help get rid of the stink. Haven't had a chance to try that yet but a lot of reports about that online and people seem to be successful with this method.
I liked the product's image compared to other designs of the same characters but goodness if I knew that it was going to smell, I'd have picked a different one.
UPDATE: After one month of daily use the smell has faded. Spilling strawberry yogurt inside it several times appears to have helped! Running it through the wash does not help. I never got around to trying the newspaper trick. I bumped my review up from 2 stars to three. It is a very good price and cute just be prepared to put up with a month of stink or treat it somehow to get rid of the smell.

Oh, FYI, it does have a California Prop 65 warning about containing chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects, etc. Those are probably the chemicals I'm smelling! This bag exceeded my expectations. It is sturdy, roomy, easy to handle and fits perfectly in the plane overhead bin. Very happy with this purchase.

I am a full-time student. I take public transportation to school and the bag was in full use 5 days a week. Purchased in November, the wheels were cracked by February, and one of the wheels completely fell apart just 3 days ago (March 13), so I can't use it anymore (the bag's wheels died after only 4 months :( ).Also, it would be helpful if the bottom had a plastic or otherwise hard bottom because from wheeling it regularly, the fabric on the bottom gets ripped when you are pulling the bag up curbs or stairs. As soon as I can find my warranty paperwork, I will contact the mfr about replacement. Will update to advise if I experienced problems.

It works. It's a cheap duffel, so you get what you pay for. I use it for work as a carry-on for 4-5 day trips. It doesn't usually fit in the overhead (on regional flights) but I check it at the gate and it's fine. Shows a lot of wear and tear, got dirty easily. No rips or broken zippers yet after 8-10 trips so that's a plus. It does fit a pretty good amount of stuff, the little bags on the sides help a lot with the extras (chargers and etc).Rockland Luggage 4 Piece Luggage Set

Having read all the reviews I was prepared to receive non-mesh, cheap plastic envelopes that are frankly overpriced. But I needed something last minute and because I wasn't expecting much, these little cases actually worked out really well for a recent lengthy road trip. I used them for sorting various papers and keeping cash, tickets, and miscellany. They're decently flexible, have quality zipper pulls, and held up to dozens of daily open/close moments. I feel they're most effective for items that lay more flat, because even the larger sizes aren't designed for bulk. The bargain basement 'mesh' printed design is entirely unnecessary and frankly silly, but for safety pins, hotel receipts, rubber bands and cash denomination sorting, again, they held up quite nicely. They should be priced at half of what they're sold for, but I still don't think I could buy as many envelopes of various sizes at my local dollar store. If you're not a frequent traveler, don't require hard core protection/storage, and desire mainly paper organizing these should do the trick. If you're budget conscious and not embarrassed by using Zio-loc bags then just use those and save yourself the $$.Samsonite Leather Flapover Briefcase

Just received, unpacked, and quickly loaded...VERY NICE!! (Bravo to the packing/shipping department who delivered this within a day of ordering. )Looked at several combination "Women's Briefcase/Laptop Carriers" but didn't find any with a substantial (wide/thick) strap and even fewer with a carrying handle. After hours of browsing, I found this bag and it has both options. The leather construction and silver accents make for a quality bag. The case shape is just boxy enough and design classic enough that it works well for men and women. At 5'3", I don't feel overwhelmed when I carry the bag and I especially appreciate the adjustable "belt buckle" strap; at it's shortest setting, the top of the bag comes to my waist and is very comfortable.
Regarding storage, I put my wallet and keys in the middle zippered pocket and put a few file folders and a planner in the other dividers. The padded laptop section is big for my MacBook Air (in a Speck case) but that gave me room for my Kindle in it's case. The section's padding isn't too thick and could be used instead to carry more paperwork or personal items. The front panel organizer is typical of most briefcases. The back has an outside zippered pocket, as well as an open "pocket" to piggyback onto your luggage handle.
First impressions, I'm very happy with my purchase!!

Pros:This bag both look and feels extremely well made, and is perfect for carrying a laptop and some papers. I am an attorney, and it looks good in court.
It also fits fantastically onto the handle of a suitcase with its nicely hidden back-flap, which I do not think is obvious in the pictures..
Cons:
Before buying this I was aware that it was not a huge bag, and was intended for carrying a reasonably light amount of stuff. The main reason I have given four rather than five stars, however, is that it is not great for fitting irregularly shaped stuff (i.e. my leather binder, plus papers, plus laptop all fit in great, but I have difficulties instead fitting my coffee cup). You cannot stuff things into the bag, as, if you can't close the flap, you cant carry it at all, as the clasp has to be fully closed to use the strap.
UPDATE: After using the bag for a couple of weeks, it has definitely relaxed a little which makes a big difference to how much you can fit in. I can now happily fit in my laptop (albeit an ultrabook)and charger, my coffee cup, tuperware lunch box, umbrella and leather documents folder with some room to spare. END OF UPDATE
Also, I am not particularly tall (6ft) but the strap nevertheless felt too short to carry it over my shoulder. I have ended up using the strap from my previous bag.
Conclusion:
If you want to use this as a smart bag for your laptop plus papers, this is a great purchase and well worth the price. If you want this as a general bag and will have lots of stuff in it, consider getting a bigger/more flexible one. I would probably give this a 4.5 if I could.

Got this briefcase 1 year ago. Did some immediate travel for business and noticed that the bottom corners were starting to wear. The leather is composite, which you can see because the veneered corners have worn down. To be clear, I have not put this briefcase through any sort of undue stress. It's been in the following places: a car, under an airplane seat, and next to my desk.I would like to give this product the benefit of the doubt, because of the other positive reviews, but I don't think Samsonite should be using composite leather.
Some pros: It looks quite sharp and I've been complemented on it many times. Also, it's affordable.
Additional con: It's not too roomy. If you put more than a couple folders inside the bag you will not be able to shut it.

Well.....every RN out there knows how valuable a really good hip pack is at work....and just how hard it is to find a good quality one that is functional and trendy looking. I was hopeful with this one.....but realized quickly that it was pretty much completely useless while on the job. It is very stiff and way too small. I tried putting my credit card, cash, lip glass, cell phone in the front pocket.....it wasn't happening. It only fit my money/credit card and lip gloss....that is IT.....and when I unzipped it, my credit card fell on the floor. The larger compartment had my pens, skinny highlighters, bandage scissors, alcohol pads, saline syringes......and again, I had to leave it unzipped bc it was so small in space and the items would fall out. It is pretty much a useless bag for the reason I intended for it's use. And it's a shame too bc it is very well made, and I really like the pattern (kaleidoscope) but unfortunately, as a RN......functionality is the most important factor in using a hip pack in the hospital.....guess my search for a really good pack continues......sighI know a hip pack is small and compact but this one took it too far. It is sturdy but holds very little, a comb, ID and credit card, lip balm. forget cigarettes if you are a smoker,or shades if it's in a carryng case. Maybe it's me but I expected something bigger, like your standard fanny pack. Good for runners. Not worth $17.The product arrived a day early and is awesome. The size was perfect for me to wear and put 2 phones, a small wallet and keys into it. I do wish the clip in the back was smaller and that it was easier to adjust and for it to stay where it was adjusted. It looks just like the picture and looks so much better than a lot of fanny packs I have seen.Kata KT D-3N1-11 3 In 1 Sling /Backpack with Laptop Slot

Whether or not your laptop will fit will depend on the bulkiness of the shell of your laptop. Please read the dimension specs for your make and model compared with the Kata dimensions very carefully.

I rated this bag 4 stars, because I would like a bag this size to hold my iPad. Then, it would be a perfect 5 stars for me. It holds the gear I carry (Canon 7D without a battery grip attached, a Canon 50mm f/1.4, and a Canon 24-70mm f/2). Remember. It is meant to be a compact bag, so don't plan on carrying ancilliary items AND all of your lenses. However, If I just want to carry my camera gear, including a Canon 70-200 f/2.8L IS I, I can, but then I can only carry my keys and a small wallet by unzipping the divider that opens the internal area of the bag up to include the otherwise separate top compartment where you might carry a wallet, some nutrition bars, your keys, etc. There are still small side pockets to carry a microfiber cloth, polarizers, etc.

This bag just felt too rigid and uncomfortable on my back. And I wasn't trying to overfill the bag, either. And the idea of being able to change straps (sling to backpack to cross) sounds nice, but it just doesn't seem to work well and I found myself asking, "Is this really necessary." It's difficult to hide the second strap of trying sling mode. Also in sling mode, the strap cuts into my shoulder too much. I have had Lowepro Slingshot bags in the past, but I think I would not have liked this Kata bag even if I had never heard of Lowepro. I ended going with a similar Lowpro bag to the one I had previously, only an AW bag, with Rain Cover.Want Kata KT D-3N1-11 3 In 1 Sling /Backpack with Laptop Slot Discount?
The Kata 3N1-11 has been a great day bag for my travels. I've had it now for about 2 or 3 months, and have used it on several day treks. For what I have been recently doing, my standard load has been my camera with two lenses and a flash. I just have to make sure I pick versatile lenses depending on what I expect to shoot that day. For example, if I know I won't need a flash, I can throw in another lens or two. There's still enough room for a book, notebook, snacks, water, filters, batteries, memory card, pens, and other small items. Perfect for a day of walking around as a tourist and hobby (beginner) photographer. The bag is easy and comfortable to use in all configurations, and I've tried them all. The D-ring has been handy to hang other items like the rain fly, lens cloth, and my point and shoot. Constructed out of high quality materials and made well. Provides outstanding protection for my camera equipment. I was so confident with the bag that when I was in a light rain a couple of days ago, I didn't bother to use the rain fly, and everything in the bag was well protected. To give you some perspective, I'm a career infantry Marine, so I've spent a lot of time evaluating the gear that I use and purchase.I also bought this from the "used" section of Amazon, and it has far exceeded my expectations. This was my first time purchasing something used from Amazon, so I had no idea what to expect. It was listed as being in "good" condition as opposed to "new" or "very good," and I could not find any damage on it what so ever. It also came with the tags still on. I hope my future used purchases from Amazon are just as good of an experience as this one. I think I saved something crazy like 50% off the regular retail price.
Job well done to both Kata for making a great product, and to Amazon for giving me a greatly value-added service. Thank you to both.

Just a couple of minor downsides I have found -and it's minor - is that it is very deep. Banged up the tips of my finger nail polish, so you'll wnat to be organized about what you put where. Routing around in there can take a while. Also, outer pocket is very deep,so you'll not want to keep anything you don't want to lose in there. The flap has a gap at the top and it is easy to have things fall out, especially when you tip it up to put it in an overhead compartment. And it's hard to stack things on top of it. They seem to fall off easily.
I had it monogrammed at the shop where I bought it and can bring it back there every six months to have the leather treated, which is the only reason I'm not kicking myself for buying it at the last minute locally instead of online. But either way, you will not regret this purchase!
17.3-Inch Alienware Orion Checkpoint Friendly Messenger Bag
Also, the image seems to have been corrected--the proper picture is displayed here. The backpack version isn't as nice and has "alienware" icons and name-branding all over it, which looks cheesy and cheap. This bag is really nice and looks professional--the Alienware icons are subtle and very minimal. It has a lot of room and a lot pockets to place things. The quality of the bag isn't the best. After using the bag for less than a week it started to fall apart. The shoulder strap pad ripped and fell off after only a day of use. Other seems around the bag a coming apart. For the price of the bag and how quick it started to fall apart I don't suggest this bag at all. This is one Alienware product I am very disappointed in!

I love my laptop very much, I just wish it wasn't so heavy, I would not recommend for college.Anyway, I bought this bag only because I was scared to buy any other bag for my M17x knowing how pricy it was, and imagining what could happen, I mean a strap being torn, not fitting properly etc.
This bag fits the laptop perfectly, it's very nicely padded, VERY padded, I mean it's so padded that when I pull my laptop out I place this bag behind me and it's like I'm using a fancy computer chair that was design to fit my spine. I over exaggerated there a bit, but it really has enough padding to keep your Alienware safe enough from simple accidents, I'm not saying it will protect your laptop if you lung it over a building, nor am I trying, but it's enough.
The bag itself isn't as heavy as it looks, actually when it was delivered, I was getting ready to pick up something that I thought was heavy but no, it's decent weight, but of course, when the laptop is placed inside, it gets quite heavy, at first you may think the same as me "Oh it's not that bad" after a while, you're like "Holy S---".
The first thing you may notice about the bag, well at least I did, was how HUGE it is, I honestly don't know why I thought it would be smaller knowing how large the M17X is alone. IT'S HUGE! The front side, the side with the logo is very bulky, but it suits its personality it also has that soft touch feel similar to the laptop. For some reason there are 2 zippers under that logo part, that I can't even pretend to imagine what to put in there, they seem quite useless, maybe a few bag of gummy worms or something.
The next zipper has many compartments, for 2 flash drive compartments 3 elastic pen holders along with a 2 other pouches to hold more, 2 iPhones (substitute for iPod or kindle), a flap for maybe a notebook, or loose papers or charger (I in all honestly don't even know where the charger is SUPPOSE to go in this), a flap with velcro with the Alienware logo on it, a tad bigger than the size of an average business cards, maybe to hold business cards, ID's, credit cards, and/or gift cards it also has a transparent area I wouldn't recommend an ID since the logo is right in the middle. It also has this key chain thing that is a bit hard to unclip and re-clip, I've never seen anything similar to this one.
The next zipper has a pouch with a net/mesh on it so you can see though it, that's where I put my charger it is a quite decent size of a pouch, if the damn charger for this laptop wasn't a tank, I would probably also find this pouch useless. Others most likely wouldn't. This zipper area also has 2 divider flaps, for folders, papers, or one large text book, I fit my auto book in there, and you make be able to fit more than one text book or even an iPad, or another smaller laptop. Very spacious area there.
The last zipper is where your laptop is placed, it says 'check point friendly' it's a clear area, plastic-y, a velcro closes the area after placing the laptop, on the other side there is a zippered pouch that is not transparent and I at first assumed the charger would go in there but I didn't like how bulky it looked. Maybe I didn't fit it right or something, I just didn't like the idea of the charger being bulked right next to where my laptop was at.
To be honest, I don't use HALF of these compartments, I could understand an actual business person filling this area up, but then, why would they have an Alienware. I would like Alienware to ALSO sell one just like this one, only with the less compartments, one SPECIFICALLY for the charger, laptop, and for accessories like a wireless mouse and mouse pad. So if you are a college student and rather carry less, like me, buys the less complicated one, but if you are a hardcore gamer, business person, or can't leave your house without all your games, you can but this original messenger bag. If that makes sense.
Overall, great bag, you KNOW it's an Alienware when you see how bulky this is.
My intentions about writing this review was, I was hesitant to buy this, because I honestly wanted to pay less, but then again, you get what you pay for so I couldn't risk paying less after the price of my Alienware. Plus I couldn't really find one that seemed to fit or be built for the Alienware, so if you bought one that fits the M17X please email me (email down below) and tell me about it, I wanted to go as much into detail about this bag because if I wanted to buy this and I was unsure I would want to know exactly how it is on the inside.
If you want some pictures of the inside you can ask, d.ysfunctional@yahoo.com or CarmenCastillo@me.com

Tons of room and pockects, very nicely padded and also very sleek looking 5 STARSWant 17.3-Inch Alienware Orion Checkpoint Friendly Messenger Bag Discount?
Everything about the Alienware Orion Checkpoint Friendly Messenger Bag is great except for one small but very important problem: it needs reinforcement. I learned this the hard way, and I believe it's due to the nature of 17" laptops: they're typically much heavier than the smaller sizes. With only the laptop, a mouse, its power adapter and my Kindle in my bag, one week into ownership the strap broke. My laptop crashed to the concrete from waist height and needed $300 worth of repairs. The bag holds the laptop but does not offer a great deal of impact protection.Dell's representative made it clear that they don't support breakage but 'just this once' would replace the bag for me. The first thing I did when I got the replacement was take it to a local shoe repair place. For a few dollars, they added extra stitching and a rivet to the square patch of canvas that holds the strap buckle to the bag (one on each side), and they overstitched the strap itself. This small adjustment was necessary and I've now had the bag for almost a year with no problems.
If you don't mind beefing up the straps at your local shoe repair, tailor, or luggage shop, the Orion Checkpoint Friendly Messenger Bag is a great buy: it looks interesting, it has generous pouches divided into three compartments, and it can probably hold just about any 17" laptop you've got. "Checkpoint Friendly" means that the laptop slips into a clear pouch and the section for it zips out in such a way that you can lay the bag wide open and flat on an airport scanner belt so it is easy to see. Not every airport pays attention to "Checkpoint Friendliness" because it's a set of guidelines more than a rule, so you may still have to take the laptop out and turn it on for your local TSA official. I haven't had this problem, and I suspect it's because they cover the clear pouch in enormous words reading "CHECKPOINT FRIENDLY".

EDIT: After six months, the bag has gotten beat up a bit. I have used it heavily, but the material had a small rip on the inside and a zipper broke off. I was able to repair the zipper in a matter of minutes using round nose pliers, but the rip I have left. Bottom line: a good bag, but for $80 a more durable bag is probably out thereI bought this product thinking it would be nice to have a fairly water resistant backpack for school. After I had it for less that 6 moths the bottom fell apart and my stuff fell out. I called the company that makes them and they had me ship it to them. I then got an email saying that they would replace it this one time but that it was not normal wear and tear so they would not do this again. When I received the replacement it looked poorly made. the rubber like lower part was all bubbled and started coming apart after a few weeks. Now 5 months later the whole front zipper has come apart there is a tear developing in the top inside compartment. I am extremely disappointed in the product. An 80 dollar backpack should last more than 6 months.

I bought this product because I wanted a waterproof backpack for the heavy rains in Bogota, Colombia. When I received the bag, the front zipper was not properly attached to the fabric. Also the bottom was tearing off on the sides. I wasn't happy after having paid a lot for the backpack. Whatever, I krazyglued the zipper and bottom and figured it would be ok. The first big rain, come to find out water leaks through the zipper. The zipper is completely exposed and doesn't have a cover or anything to keep out the rain. You'd think the designer would have thought that one through. Sure the material is waterproof but what about leaving an uncovered zipper that leaks? Ridiculous. Don't waste your money on this back if you want a bag that will keep your work from getting wet.Read Best Reviews of OverBoard Adventure Backpack, White Here
Don't buy this backpack. IS A FRAUD. The top zips have no kind of protection. It let the rain in and wet my objects on the second day of use. I contacted the overboard about returning the product and they rejected, arguing that it was used, and suggested me a voucher in return for a different backpack. The voucher didn't work, and they didn't answered me again. So if you think this review is a bad joke and decide to buy this fraud, don't forget you were warned!!
Look carefully at the photos, and don't commit the same mistake as I. This backpack is not water resistant.I took this camping, and there was a thunderstorm. Tent was soaking wet inside and out, bag was soaking wet, but all contents were dry!
