Eagle Creek Adventure Weekender Bag
Amy Michelle Madison Avenue
I was looking for a bag that wouldn't look like a diaper bag but would still have the organization for the few things you need for a toddler. This bag looks like a school bag and is great I can fit a change of clothes for my boy, a couple of toys, sippy cups, some snacks and of course diapers and wipes. For myself I carry wallet, keys, cell phone and a bottle of water. Just enough for a short trip.
This bag is very narrow, so the outside bottle pockets are snug you can have baby's cups/bottles there, but not a Sigg bottle. A Sigg would fit in the inside bottle pocket though (I have an Oggi stainless steal 26oz and it fits but I still carry it inside the pockets are not very deep).
Because it is so narrow and the outside pockets (the back compartment and the mommy pocket) are flat, they steal from the inside space and it's a little hard to reach the bottom of the bag. So I just roll the spare clothes in a Ziploc and push them to the bottom and have all the rest of stuff on them works for me. Despite being so narrow, this bag stands on it's own a pleasant surprise.
As for the stroller straps they are on Velcro, so if you take them on and off the stroller opening the Velcro, they probably won't last a long time. I just left them on the stroller and attached a couple of carabiners to them to put the bag on because the ones they have are small and hard to open.
The backpack transition is not very easy you have to remove the strap from the shoulder position completely and reorganize it for the backpack. To put it on you bag you have to use both hands simultaneously because the strap slides inside the loop, but once you have it there it works fine. Also, it's great having this option.
It's not fancy the hardware is plastic, and there is a Velcro closer on the back compartment (I would prefer magnetic or a zipper). But as I said it's great for the price, looks sturdy and I don't feel like I need to be careful with it just use it. Also looks like I'll be able to throw it in the washer.
This would be perfect if it was two inches shorter and not so narrow, but really great otherwise.
There is also a video review on it on YouTube
and a lot of reviews on E-bags website.
Hope this helps.I've been using this bag for 3 months, and I think it's perfect for everyday use, running errands, etc. It easily fits a spare outfit, a burp cloth or two, and a couple of diapers (and we use cloth so they're bulkier than disposables)in the main compartment. We BF, but it wouldn't be much more crowded with a bottle or two. I keep the changing pad and a travel sized package of wipes in the outside pocket that just closes with velcro, and the other side with the zippered pocket fits wallet, phone, lipstick, etc with room to spare. I mostly carry it like a messenger bag across my body, but when we're using the stroller I find the clips to hang it from the handles to be really convenient. (Safety note: you should be careful about hanging anything heavy from the stroller because it could tip over, but I think it would be hard to load this bag up with enough stuff for weight to be a concern.) I took off a star because I was really excited about the backpack conversion feature, but it doesn't work all that well. I thought it would be good for when Baby was in a front carrier, because you can't wear the bag across your body. It's not had to convert to a backpack with some adjusting and it's fine when you have it on. The problem is getting it on in the first placebecause you are dealing with one long strap, it easily pulls all the way to one side and is awkward to take on & off, especially with a baby on your chest. I don't find that I really want to use it that way as often as I expected to, though, so it's not a big deal. I still really like the bag and appreciate that it's versatile, not bulky & easy to keep clean. There are quite a few videos on youtube that show how to use it, if you are interested in checking it out more.
5.11 Covrt18 Backpack
I got the 5.11 Covrt18 bag (navy) a week before I traveled to 3 islands in the Caribbean. The bag is good looking without standing out in any way. It has the standard laptop case which is fine. This bag really stands out in 3 ways from my perspective:
1) Spaciousness of main compartment
2) Weight distribution/comfort
3) Size and organization (ie functionality) of additional compartments
I stored passports, 4 days of clothing, a Canon DLSR, 2 books (1 was 1100 pages), 3 phone chargers, camera charger, snacks, earplugs, headphones, writing paper & pens. I carried this onto the plane and was able to fit it under the seat(aisle seat) with minimal shoving.
The main compartment is surprisingly big. I was able to put clothing on all 4 sides of my camera without feeling like i was crushing it. It has 2 grommeted holes on the bottom, which at first I didn't like thinking water would get in but I quickly realized I'd never put my bag down in a puddle. The holes let the lint and cruft fall out vs my other bags which require periodic upside down shakeouts. The holes are smaller than a dime so you can still toss your change wherever is easiest.
I don't understand why this bag is so comfortable compared to the others I own. Yes, the shoulder straps are cushioned but thats never bothered me. Rather, the weight seems to be better distributed? I don't feel like I need to walk hunched forward slightly and frankly forgot I had it on when standing at the airport for 6 hrs.
The northface bags have 700 zippers, straps, openings but I hated them. The Covrt18 makes perfect sense the 2ndary compartments don't 'black hole' your stuff when you need to get things out. The arrangement makes it easy to recognize which compartment you're opening. My 2 favorites are the very top compartment, lined with soft material. Perfect for sunglasses, cellphone, keys, earbuds, gum & other things that you may need to pull out frequently. The other is the 2 overlapping square compartments on the outside perfect for throwing passports in one and paper/notes in the other.
I've only had it for 2 weeks now so I can't comment on durability but have no reason to question it. Yes it is slightly more expensive than other bags but when I add up the 3 I've purchased prior to Covrt18, it's close to $200 spent trying to find the right bag. Buy the right one first.
UPDATE: July 2012
I've used this about 6 times so far and it's still in like-new condition. I haven't found any problems or 'cons' since the original review. I took it to Italy for a week and to Las Vegas for a 3 day weekend. For Vegas this was the only thing I brought fit 2 shorts, 1 jeans, pair of dress shoes, 6 shirts, bathing suit, toiletries and a kindle room for more. If you don't already roll everything for packing I'd suggest trying it out with this. The bundle method is better for avoiding wrinkles with suits and dress shirts IMO...I wanted very badly to like this backpack. I could not have been more excited to see the UPS guy pull up today. When I pulled it out of the box, it became obvious that the quality control on these things is sub-par. While the bag itself seemed to be very functional, and all of their advertisements seemed to be accurate, several of the straps and zippers on the one I ordered were either already broken (zippers on the inside pockets, which I was able to fix after fiddling with it for about a half hour), or they broke upon their first use (the right hand elastic strap on the water bottle holder popped the first time I tried to cinch it up). I am returning this bag, and am now debating whether I should try another one or not. I was purchasing this for a trip I am going on in a week, and I just hope that I can get another unit that fast if I decide to get another one of these. I am not sure what the quality control process is for these, but it seems that it needs to be adjusted. Had I have paid half the price for this backpack, it wouldn't be a big deal, but at this price to have things breaking on the backpack right out of the box is unacceptable. Very disappointing from a backpack of this caliber...
**UPDATE**
Ok, I did indeed wind up purchasing another one, and this time with better results. I have since been to Korea, China, backpacking, fishing, and have used it at the office every day, and it has actually been a great little backpack. It is indeed laid out well, and it just adapts so well to so many different scenarios. It is also well balanced and extremely comfortable. I bumped it up a star (really wanted to give it 3 1/2, but half in not an option). The reason I didn't go up to five with it is because I am still a little concerned that I heard nothing at all from the company. In fact, I even sent them a contact through their website and nothing. The other thing I am very concerned about is that I left a similar review on the the companies website which never got posted. It is always a little shady to me when a website lets you "review" products, but the negative ones never post. This is akin to false advertisement if you ask me.
In summary, the backpack itself (second time around) is actually really good and I am glad overall that I gave it another shot. The company does not seem to be concerned with pleasing their customers (at least average Joes...maybe it would be different if I were in the service or in law enforcement...), nor will they allow honest feedback on their website's posted comments and "ratings." Again, for a backpack of this price that is in competition with other companies who offer lifetime warranties on their products, this seems like an unwise practice.
There you go! Now you decide...This well thought-out backpack has lots of room and many pockets for organization. The padded laptop sleeve is as good as any other backpack's; a 17" MacBook Pro will *just* fit, though the top corners are very close to the top of the bag. The side-entry pocket is great for stowing an iPad our you can use the big front pocket for the same purpose. The two small pockets on the front are perfect for small items you want to get to quickly like USB sticks, ear-buds or change. The "admin" pocket on the front-top has plenty of room for pens, business cards, small note pads and other "office supplies". The main compartment where the laptop can be stowed expands quite a bit, you could drop a 3" binder in there along with the laptop. There is no dedicated "paperwork" pocket like you find in most laptop backpacks, but you can use the main compartment or, if it's just a folder or two, a great place is the compartment that can also hold the hydration pack. The mesh zippered pockets in the main compartment are great for stowing whatever you want to carry that needs to be contained/organized.
This bag is more than just a laptop bag, it is intended to be used in the field and is just as tough as a typical day-hiking bag by one of the major outdoor bag manufacturers. On a recent trip, I dumped out all my business stuff and put in a hydration bladder, first aid kit, snacks, maps, etc and went on an all day hike. The shoulder straps and sternum strap are well designed and distribute the weight of the backpack to keep your shoulders and back from getting sore on long treks. The surfaces that contact your back, shoulders and chest are made of a semi-breathable padding to help keep you cooler and the padding on the back has a channel for ventilation. The empty weight is very light, the fabric is water repellant and most of the zippers have rain covers that keep (much)water from leaking through the zippers and into the bag. After a trip from the US to Europe then Asia and back the backpack still looks brand new and will certainly last for years. This is a great bag and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a new laptop backpack.
One last comment about carrying the 17" MacBook. My laptop is in a Speck Products lexan case that will protect it from bumps, but does add about 3/16" to the dimensions. With the case, the laptop still fits fine. Because there is virtually no room left at the top of the bag, I was concerned about the top corners of the laptop rubbing on the fabric and causing wear. I put a 2"x3" patch of moleskin on each upper inside surface where this contact could occur, just in case. The moleskin has been there for over a month and shows no sign of wear and isn't trying to peel off, and there is no sign of wear on the outside of the bag.

I finally convinced my wife to let me order her a EDC bag. I did a lot of research and decided on the 5.11 COVRT 18. I read the review from J. Sutton (posted on this site) and was a little concerned however I decided to order 2 of the bags anyway. That was a mistake! Upon arrival, the one I ordered for my wife was damaged / broken. The top carrying handle was torn in two. I examined it further and it appears the handle was yanked on until it gave way and broke through the middle. The stitching around the handle was frayed and, well, it was completely sheared in two (in the middle). I've never seen a pack handle do this! This should have been caught by quality control as it was an OBVIOUS defect in workmanship and is the first thing I noticed as I pulled it out of the packaging (unless a disgruntled employee shipped it in this manner??!!). I examined the pack I ordered for me and found other frayed / loose stitching which made me nervous. I called 5.11 but was directed to a voice mail. I left two messages explaining the quality / damage issues but never received a phone call back. BOTTOM LINE: This pack is definitely sub-par when it comes to quality. I would not trust it in the field. I've heard other police officers say 5.11 has been producing gear with issues recently, but I didn't believe it until I saw it. Buyer beware! My search continues for a well built EDC pack. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. I have lost confidence in 5.11's quality and customer service.Want 5.11 Covrt18 Backpack Discount?
I am a firearms and CHL (Concealed Handgun License) instructor. I am constantly looking for a backpack or other way of carrying my work gear that does not look Tacticool and, therefore, broadcasts to the world "THIS GUY IS CARRYING A GUN!!" This bag is perfect for carrying all work day essentials. I have a HUGE 17" Dell laptop that fits in the main compartment perfectly. I also have a full sized Glock .45 with 2 mags, and a S&W snubby with speedloader in the velcro concealed compartment. My last backpack seemed to be so heavy, but it's stuff I use every day so I have to carry it around. I have no idea what the deal is with this backpack, but I swear the exact same load out I carried in my lst pack FEELS lighter in this backpack. I guess it's the location/spacing of the straps...not sure. But I love it. I also should mention that I'm 6'7" and have broad shoulders, and this pack fits fine (for those that find it hard to fit a good backpack).I love the sporty, pleasant looking colors offered and love even more that it does not scream TACTICAL!
Buy it. You will not be disappointed.

This cute and sturdy backpack is perfect for our girly-girl kindergartner. We've had this two months and couldn't be more impressed especially with the fact that despite the white pattern it looks as clean as the day it arrived. Part of that is due to the fact the kitty face is some kind of white leather rather than cloth, but even the fabric seems to resist dirt. Couldn't be cuter, but so far it seems super well-made and tough enough to handle our active child.Read Best Reviews of Hello Kitty Backpack - Black & White Checkerboard with Sequin Heart Here

My review :
This is a very well made pack that uses heavy duty materials. When you see this pack in person you can instantly see that this is bomb proof. Compared to most packs, the material is much thicker. This of course comes with a special benefit. It is waterproof! The material is 315D auto-airbag fabric!!!
Lots of pockets and three apertures, top, side and bottom.
As far as looks go; This pack rocks! It's gorgeous! Certainly one of the most striking thanks to the red and black design. I personally love it!
I've used this pack 5 times total now. The trips ranged from 10 miles all the way to 60. Some over night and some multi-day. Extremely comfortable even with the added weight.
The pivoting hip belt really helps control your load. Also the harness is very comfortable on your shoulders and your back as well. I noticed very little sweating even when trekking up mountains.
At my max load, I believe I had about 45lbs worth of gear. The suspension handled it nicely.
Overall this is a killer pack. It has some added weight but not all that much for a 70liter system. The fact that it is weather proof is a big deal! I live in a very wet climate so keeping my gear dry is important. After hiking through flash flood causing rains I can tell you...it's a solid pack! Nothing got wet.
I love it. I also got a great deal on this pack from another outfitter for about a hundred less than what amazon is offering it for.

Light weight yet durable. My son loves this backpack. He has been through 3 backpacks in 5 months and we finally found one that can withstand the punishment that a 10yr old dishes out. Lots of space and compartments for storing his school supplies.I love this backpack. There are lots of pockets for bits and bobs. The shoulder straps are very comfortable and easily adjustable, even with the backpack on. Just pull the straps that hang down to pull the backpack up. This is probably my favorite feature. One small problem is the opening for the main pocket isn't as large as I need so it's hard to put some of my larger textbooks in and pull them back out. Overall though, I love this backpack. This bag was inexpensive and also carries a warranty. I like the size of the bag and the pockets, and that it has a laptop sleeve, but the straps are way too wide for my small frame and slip off of my arms. I am going to keep it as I only bring it with me to and from work 3 days a week and am only walking to and from my car.17 inch American Princess Turquoise Plaid Butterfly Student Bookbag Backpack

I got this for a 2nd grader. I was disappointed in the quality "feel" of the backpack. Very thin material. Looks on the "cheap" side...BUT it has lasted 7 months and no rips or anything.I worried about ordering a book bag for my daughter online because I couldn't actually see how big it was-but this is a good size bag for school. Great bag for the price. Made of canvas and looks to be durable. My only complaint is that the website said the colors were green, blue, and black assorted, but I recieved a red one. My son liked it though. They should list all of the possible colors, if I had gotten a pink one, I would have been very upset.Eagle Creek Travel Gear Silk Undercover Bra Stash
The Braza Secret Pocket is also a simple pocket but it is made of nylon lace, nylon mesh and something that resembles bra-lining in between the two layers. There is no spandex in this nylon fabric so it is a rough type of underwear lace. The total size of the pocket is W 2 3/4" x H 4 3/8". The opening/closure of this pocket is styled like a pillowcase opening where a piece of fabric on the end gets flipped over to secure the contents. To attach the pocket to the bra strap/panty there is an additional 1"-wide elastic strip that is Velcro-ed to the top of flap when it is flipped over closed. The clearance for this strap is 2 3/4" and so bra straps and panties need to be narrower than that to fit. The Braza Secret Pcoket is also sized to fit a few credit cards and a few bills. When the pocket is flipped inside-out, the interior seams are simply serged.
Eagle Creek vs Braza:
* If you have sensitive skin or are active, the Eagle Creek might be more comfortable as the silk is much softer against the skin and will absorb some sweat. Braza's nylon lace might be itchy and rub against the skin.
* If your panty or bra strap has a wider band, the Braza has 3/4" more clearance than the Eagle Creek
* If you'd like to keep your secret backup money secret, The Braza does not contain any metal parts to set a metal detector off, while the Eagle Creek has a metal snap button.
* Will it fall off & things fall out? Velcro is always more secure than a mere snap button. Plus on the Eagle Creek, a single snap button serves both as the closure for the pocket and as the fastener to keep the pocket attached to the bra/panty. With a lot of movement and smaller items such as keys can work their way out of the Eagle Creek much easier than the Braza.
* Ease of use: The Eagle Creek is easier to use because one snap button both opens the pocket as well as removes it from the bra/panty. The Braza one is a two-step system, where the Velcro has to be removed, then the closure flipped open.
* Braza's pocket is made out of underwear material and as such, looks like underwear (in all three color combos), whereas Eagle Creek's plain silk material doesn't make it as obvious.
Other issues are:
* While the Braza's Velco is secure, the Velcro can and does snag on the delicate fabrics of clothing and underthings.
* The Eagle Creek snap button might loosen over time making the likelihood of it falling off (and/or contents falling out) quite high.
* Braza's packaging in a plastic sleeve along with cheesy graphics on how to wear the Secret Pocket seems much more hygienic and user friendly. Eagle Creek's packaging of just a cardboard hanger, while environmentally friendly, just doesn't seem hygienic.
Conclusion:
I have both pockets and use both of them as much as the other. What it comes down to is whether I feel that the nylon will irritate my skin that day (hot & humid day, dancing etc) and if I'll need to access the pocket a lot. If I don't need to access the contents of the pocket that much, then I'll go with the Braza. The Eagle Creek is much more comfortable, but I can't help feeling that is it is not as secure as the Braza when worn in certain ways.
The perfect Bra Stash Secret Pocket would be a combination of Eagle Creek's silk and workmanship plus Braza's secure and redundant design.I couldn't figure out how to use it on my bra without it being bulky and obvious, but I loved it for attaching to panties. I toted it around with 2 credit cards and a stack of cash while hiking around Belize for 8 days, and never did it give any problemsthe snap was just tight enough to stay attached without having to fight to open it. It works best for underwear with less fabric on the hipslike highcut, bikini, or g-string types. Getting to it wasn't a problem eitherbecause I carried it just under my pocket area, it looked like I was reaching into my shorts pocket most of the time, so I never felt like I had to be too discrete, like I would if it were in my bra. I will absolutely use it again and againnot just for travel, but anytime I only want to carry cash and a few cards, and not an entire wallet/purse.

I bought both bra stash pockets that were for sale on Amazon. I hated the other one. This one is great. It is very soft, and holds much more than everyone on here is saying it does. I'm a 34C and just tuck this baby inside the cup of my bra. It stays there all day, and I never even clip it to my bra in any way...granted I'm not doing jumping jacks or anything out of the ordinary travels to and from the store, to school, around town, etc...if I planned on doing anything strenuous, I would probably just attach it to side of my panties. Anyway, if you're trying to decide between the two bra pockets sold on Amazon, this one has my vote by a long shot. It's made with better/softer material, doesn't snag on my clothes (the other one does a lot), has a convenient snap, holds way more stuff (today I had two IDs, a credit card, and $280 in cash in it I wear a padded bra, so this makes it easier to hide when it's holding more stuff), and opens much more quickly and conveniently. I really have no gripes about this product, and would highly recommend it to any woman. I live in a dangerous city where people are mugged on a regular basis, and I have used mine every day since it arrived.Read Best Reviews of Eagle Creek Travel Gear Silk Undercover Bra Stash Here

I bought this for our vacation in Thailand. I was terrified of being pick-pocketed and I didn't want to deal with a money belt in the muggy heat. I was able to fit a couple hundred Baht and a copy of my passport. I carried it around attached it in one of 2 places: On the front of my bra and on the side of my panties. I should note that if you wear underwear with thick sides, the stash might not be able to latch securely and panty method might not work. In both cases, I found I hardly knew it was there. I couldn't feel it, nor did I notice it in the heat. But, I think I prefer the panty method because I could easily keep touching it to reassure myself it was still there. At the end of the day it was also very moist from all of my perspiration, but I just laid it out in the room safe and it was good to go the next day. It held up great for our 2 week trip and I plan to use it for our next one. My one complaint, is that I didn't feel like it could comfortably hold a credit card.gogogear Oliver Backpack

Champion Luggage Sidekick 2.0 Backpack
The inside front panel has a large pocket; not quite as big as the laptop pocket due to the back to front taper, but sizeable nonetheless. Attached to this pocket is a zippered pocket about 3", 2 pen sleeves, and a 2" pocket.
The outside front panel is a huge pocket which has a zipper tucked under the left edge. The top of the backpack has a small pocket just in front of the handle which holds a decent amount of knickknacks or a small mp3/cell phone (iPhone won't fit). Two elastic water bottle holders are found on the right and left sides of the backpack. To give you an idea of the capacity if this backpack, you can store a 12 pack of soda inside with a liitle room to spare.
The nylon is lightweight and is a little stiff; makes crinkely noises at first (once the nylon relaxes, the noise is gone). This is not a heavyweight backpack -It's not flimsy either. Stitching looks good, no loose threads. The bottom of the backpack is not reinforced or waterproofed.
On the whole I like this backpack as a commuter bag. Has enough pockets to store stuff used daily without the bulk or weight of a laptop backpack. It sits nicely on the shoulder and is compact enough to be unobtrusive.

I would firstly like to say that it is a shame Amazon don't ship directly to Australia. I have to order and have items shipped to my niece and then she has to re ship to Melbourne. When I received the product I was a little disappointed as the fabric feels very synthetic and dare I say it, cheap :( I bought these for gifts because I have one which I've had for years and find invaluable when travelling, mine is made of raw silk and is lightly bigger. The ones I purchased are a good size but I'm reluctant to give them as gifts because I feel like they look and feel cheap. Such a shame. They look much better in the photos. I purchased two of these bags for my nieces. I used them to wrap a jewerly gift for Christmas. They are well made. The jewel colors are fantastic. Lots of places for earrings and rings. It acts like an insulator so you don't have to worry about weather changes, going from cold to hot, rain, etc... The laser pointer/stylus rocks. Earbuds work great, very comfortable in ear. Keep in mind I've only had this a month, so not sure on wear, but I LOVE This outfit. The carry strap is useful too, can be used has a hand carry. Went to Barnes and (K)Noble today, and people asked where I got it. I also like Purple.
Moisture build up, from going to toasty indoors to freezing cold outside is no longer a problem.
If you want to protect your Nook this is an Awesome Product. Price is affordable and material (to me) is quality.
Thanks Amazon.

Chinook Chemun Portage Pack (Green/Black)
1)The chest or sternum strap has minimal adjustments and has an elastic section, so it really doesn't offer much support.
2)There is a set of 3 loops along the sides of the pack to cinch external gear. 2 of the three straps (bottom 2) have adjustable 'buckles' or D-rings. The top (or third) loop is a fixed width, so it can't be loosened or tightened to adjust to different diamater loads. The two bed rolls we packed in worked great in these loops....except I couldn't get the top loop to open wide enough. I might try to home rigging on this to make it work.
