I received this backpack purse yesterday. It has tons of room for anything and everything. The leather is very nice and soft and looks well constructed. One reviewer mentioned that it smelled bad. When I read the review I thought okay, new leather smell is good. This purse doesn't smell like new leather ... it just smells bad. I'm hoping a little oiling and fresh air will fix it. That is my only complaint. In every other way it's perfect.---------------------------------------------------------------------------
After several days the offensive smell is gone and now it should get 5 stars!
It's beautiful and big enough to carry around in both sunny and rainy time. I received it 2 weeks prior to my trip, so I had enough time to leave it outside the closet to vent out the strong new leather smell. For the price, it's very great too.
Before searching from the internet, I went to a few stores to look for another backpack bag (I already have a good one in black from Nine West that I bought 3 years ago. Love it!) of brown color but could not find any one this good and this inexpensive.I rarely take the time to write reviews but I have to say how much I love this purse. I bought it in black and I like it so much that I came back to buy another just to keep in the closet for when this one wears out. Sad to see only brown is left, but I am very hopeful they will get the black back in stock! Keeping my fingers crossed. Great bag, plenty of storage to organize and secure pockets.First, let me get this out of the way, this is not a designer purse. My wife loves her smaller backpack purse and was always looking for a larger one as the smaller one is bloated with everything she carries in it. She has shopped locally and found it hard to find an affordable one like this purse. Luckily, Amazon as usual, came through along with it's 3rd party sellers.
Let's take a quick look at this purse.
PRO:
The zipper for the main center is well thought out. Provides a more secure situation. Too often, other backpack purses have the main zipper that going across like the outside zipper so someone may be able to unzip it without you knowing. This main zipper in the middle is from front of body to back (perpendicular to outside zipper). It gets folded over when you wear the purse, helping avoid easy theft.
It's a nice overall size, my wife is petite and I have to say it looks good on her, it doesn't look like she is wearing something too big for her size and this backpack has enough room to carry a bit of everything a woman carries, I guess.
Under $30, large enough for many things to be packed inside, affordable.
CON:
The texture and the material is hard. She ordered a different color (lighter) and that material was very soft, this one is hard to the point that the bottom portion that touches your back when wearing, hits against one's back when wearing. It's hard to explain in words but only once when you wear it, you will understand it. I don't know if it is because of different treatment or processing of the leathers, but this one was not comfortable.
The inside lining is cheap. It is acceptable but be careful with anything sharp or has pointed ends.
Conclusion:
Is it completely 100% leather? I doubt it. How long will it last? This remains to be seen. So far, she is very happy to find this type of purse. I would give it more stars but the hard dark brown leather prevents that.

I did a lot of research before buying this pack and I am convinced that if you are looking for something in this size, this is the best option. If you are looking for a PC laptop sleeve, this is correct, however if you are looking for one for a Macbook Pro, you may want to search elsewhere, unless you don't mind the extra height.This is a great case, don't get me wrong and the pocket is pretty awesome. But all the same, this unit is not really meant for Macbook Pro's. A macbook is more rectangular, this is more for the larger PC styled laptops that are taller in height as they are with Width. I believe Mobile Edge also has a special "Macbook Pro" design.
Just make sure before you purchase to check your specs on width/height ratios. :)

I love the hands-free aspect of backpack and I am always searching for good backpack. This bag is make of durable yet light-weight material. A good size but not too large. Externally there is a zippered pocket at the top perfect for cell phone, keys, or small item. There are 2 plastic d-rings for hanging the bag on the stroller. There is also a large and deep pocket (right below the small zippered pocket)with hidden zipper. I love the double handles for grab and go. Internally, there are 4 slip pockets. Bound-down and grey lining is nice.While this bag is made of light and durable, easy clean material, there is no padding what so ever, which some people may like because you can fold up the bag for storage. The shoulder straps are lightly padded. The bag doesn't have structured shape unless packed or stuffed. My biggest problem with this bag is that there is no good place to put a water bottle. The internal slip pockets are not all the way down to the bottom of the bag, so with the weight of a bottle, it drags the bag down.
The bag comes with a changing pad, which is stored in the middle of the main compartment and a insulated bottle holder. Personally I think the price tag of $74.99 is steep for this bag.

I bought a similar High Sierra rolling bag two years ago. I travel with it at least once per week and it held up pretty good for those two years, but the wheels finally wore out. But I thought it held up good enough so I bought this bag. I like it even better because it stands up and is slightly trapezoidal in shape. So far so good, but lets see if those wheels will last more than two years this time.

I'm always frustrated by reviews that compare products like this to $30 items purchased at Walmart. Let's get a few things out of the way:1. nobody *needs* a $550 leather bag to carry around papers, laptops, and pens.
2. yes, a kevlar bag purchased from k-mart will last ten years no problem.
3. $550 is a lot of money.
4. killing cows is a morally questionable practice.
We agree on all that? good. now let's actually talk about this bag. I've owned mine for about a year. I'm a normal guy. I don't take jungle safari's every saturday. I'm not a CIA operative trained in close-quarters combat. so does this bag do anything for me that a cheaper bag wouldn't? Very little. But here's what I like about its functional features:
first off, it's simple. I had a Timbuk2 bag and honestly I could never find anything when I needed it because there were so many storage locations that I'd end-up searching through 4 zippered pockets before finding the red pen I wanted. This bag has no zippers, 3-4 storage slots, and a strap. Surprisingly enough, that takes care of my needs.
secondly, it takes wear/age gracefully. My old bag lasted 5 years before I handed it off to my cousin (who's still using it). But with each year, the wear made it look more tattered. this bag accepts abuse with a certain dignity... I think eventually it's this quality that has sustained the enduring relationship between humans and tanned animal hide. it "ages well".
i like that it's a crafted item. yes, they're made in mexico. but leaving out the political angle for a minute.... i find it refreshing to handle a piece of merchandise that looks, feels, and smells like the careful work of an artisan. it's a lost quality in our world (but one which is hopefully making a resurgence).
most importantly however, this bag does what few inanimate objets can-it becomes a part of your life. It becomes a memento of things you've done and places you've been. if you've ever handled a small personal affect or trinket that's been in the family for generations, then you know the feeling. I have my grandfather's pocket watch. Whenever I look at it, I remember him and imagine what he might've been thinking when he was my age. it's silly I know, but it speaks to the appeal of Saddleback products (and other similar ones).
best bag ever? no.... who wants to argue about that?! it's just plain silly how much we apparently need to assign rational qualities to retail our habits. for god's sake it's just a bag. but unlike so many things we buy daily/weekly/monthly... it might be one of those things that gets carried along with you as you make your way.

I purchased the dark coffee brown Saddleback Leather backpack a little over a month ago and I have to say I'm thoroughly impressed. As soon as you open the box, you can smell the leather. The whole bag smells amazing. Clothing that is transported in the backpack carries a slight leather smell that dissipates in about five minutes or so. The backpack is much heavier than bags of equal or even slightly larger size. To get an idea of the approximate weight of the bag, it would be best to put 7 pounds in a backpack and carry it for a while. The heft of the bag is considerable, but worth the weight if you love quality leather products. The quality throughout the bag is great for such a thick leather product. The finish of the bag is very easily scratched or scuffed, but this only adds to the character of the bag and does not detract from its appearance. If you prefer a bag that shows little signs of wear, you may want consider the carbon black backpack. The backpack is extremely stiff out of the box but will soften with use. I've only had the bag for about a month and it's getting softer everyday. The shoulder straps are very well made and can be attached in a number of different ways to offer multiple carrying options. Saddleback Leather uses Chamerlain's Leather Milk on all of their bags and I highly recommend their products. I applied the Water Protectant to all of my dark coffee brown products from Saddleback Leather. The Protectant didn't darken the leather much, if at all. I would say it richened the color more than it darkened it. With a padded insert, I can fit my D700 with the 24-70 2.8 attached and room to spare for lenses and other photographic equipment. For clothing, I can fit a couple pairs of jeans, a few shirts, and undergarments without an issue, if all folded flat. One could fit much more if the items were rolled and stuffed into the bag. The side pockets expand to fit larger items. The front pouch is a perfect fit for my 13.5" MacBook Pro. A neoprene slipcase may offer more protection from impact than the leather alone. If impact to the bag is likely, the inside of the bag would offer better protection to a laptop than the front pouch. Overall, the Saddleback Leather backpack is a wonderful alternative to the average everyday backpack. One that will stand the test of time.Want Saddleback Leather Backpack Discount?
Let me start with the positives. This is a great backpack. I highly recommend it, and I do believe it will last 100 years. The leather is of the most highest quality, is very thick, is dyed perfectly, and smells great (although the rich leathery smell dies out over time, which is good because it is very strong when you first get it). In general, the workmanship is the best I have seen on any backpack. Also, this bag impresses people when they see it. Then, they hold it, and they cannot help themselves but to ask "How much did THIS cost?" It definitely screams "QUALITY" and if you go to Saddleback Leather's web site you can learn all about how they make the bag and that they pay and train their workers well (it is made in Mexico, but by highly skilled laborers unlike the Vagabond brand backpacks that are knockoffs of these and made in China with lesser quality dye jobs on the leather and typically uneven stitching/poorer workmanship). This is a heavy duty bag that can hold a lot. I fit a Dell Precision laptop that is something like 7 or 8 lbs in it on most days along with a big textbook (about 1.5 inches thick), some papers, and an iPad on most days. I have no trouble fitting this stuff in there, but it is a snug fit. I could not fit too much more, but who would want to?Now for the negatives. There is one (only one) stitch that is missed on the entire thing, but it happens to only be noticeable on the inside part of the top flap where the strap is that you connect to the buckle on the front to close it (look at the picture of the front of the bag where the strap is connected with stitching and three rivets on the inside part of this is what I am talking about). For some reason this annoys me because I see it every time I open the bag and you really do have an expectation of perfection when you pay the kind of money this costs and watch videos of the owner describing the high quality construction. However, I do not expect it to cause any structural issues in the long run since it is re-enforced with the rivets and the other stitches are firmly in place. It is kind of like an itch I want to scratch though so it just drives me a little nuts.
Other than that, the bag itself can be a bit uncomfortable on the back if you keep the shoulder straps a bit loose so that a lot of the weight of the bag rests against a single bottom ridge pressed into your back. However, there are two things that help this. After I treated the bag with some of the Chamberlain leather milk that they recommend, this problem is much less of an issue now as the leather is now softer and it will continue to soften as it ages. I also settled on adjusting the straps to keep the bag fairly tight against my back and this has helped a lot. I carry a lot in the bag though, and if I lessen the weight then this is a non-issue.
Also, the metal part of the shoulder strap that connects to the D-rings on the bag might make fairly regular high-pitched squeaking noises as you walk, which can be a bit annoying. The connection is right by your head, so you will certainly hear it if it is there. There is a fix for this if it happens to your purchase (see the update below).
Given all of the above, if I had to do it all over, I would buy this bag again and I think it is worth the money. The company is in the USA and all money from suppliers/laborers seems to stay within either the US or Mexico market. I also plan on buying the messenger-style bag for a lighter option on days I only travel with my laptop and a few papers or single book.
UPDATE on 5/8/13
I called customer service yesterday. They are very friendly, and I explained/demonstrated the squeaking D-ring problem of the shoulder straps over the phone. The lady I talked to explained that the leather was rubbing tightly against the metal and this will go away in time, and she suggested that I pour a little bit of baby powder into the area where this was happening. It worked like a charm and there is no more squeaking. This definitely improves my experience with the product. I have changed my mind and will purchase the "large" version of the thin briefcase instead of the messenger-style bag that I mentioned above.

I gave this product 4 stars, because it is reasonably priced and it would have been durable had it not been for the abuse of my 5 year old and teachers putting his coats in there, which caused his zippers to blow out. I would recommend this product if it will only be used for light use.

My 5 year old son absolutely loves this back pack. He takes it to school every day and it is big enough to fit all of his work folders, his lunch bag and his jacket. It is very light so there is no added weight. We have not put anything too heavy in it so I don't know how it will hold up with heavy books.I want to add to this review many months after I wrote the first one it is starting to tear at the fabric and the seam at the bottom. My son's lunch bag is pretty heavy so the weight of it caused the backpack to tear. Not super durable but my son just loves it anyway. It will last one more month until his school year is over so I guess it did it's job. I was going to get a new one for him anyway. Wish it would have held up a little better though so he could have used it for summer camps.

This is quite roomy without being overwhelming on my six year old. It's also surprisingly lightweight so he can carry quite a few things in there without it getting too heavy. And he loves the Star Wars/Lego design!

I bought this pack because I already own a number of larger backpacks. I wanted something small that I could take my lunch to work, or a small change of clothes for long day out. What I got was exactly that, plus one that has a place for my camelback water bladder. This replaced my larger trail backpack I was using as well. This is not advertised as a laptop bag, maybe a tablet or netbook might fit, but this is a "day pack" It is made thoughtful and well, quality stitching,good looking design makes this a great product. Buy one if you like having an assortment of backpacks to use for the right situation. I use mine ALL the time.

I had to switch from my beautiful red leather laptop bag to a backpack due to back and shoulder problems. I wasn't supposed to carry a bag on one shoulder anymore. I went searching for a backpack I could transport my laptop in to and from work. I wanted something not childish, but colorful. I thought about a leather backpack but in the end I settled on this bag. I'm glad I did! The straps are very soft and thick so they don't hurt my shoulders. The part that's up against my back has padding. Every backpack I had in college and high school, my laptop or books would dig into my lower back and it hurt. As usual Amazon gets it here fast. The Vaultz case seems well made, and very usable, except for the really bad combination locks. Everything (laptop and accessories) fits very well. Did I mention the really bad locks. I would have gladly paid another five or even ten dollars more to have locks that actually work. I have to physically hit the left side to get it to even close. the right side does fine but it is difficult to rotate the tumblers (as is the left side). I have other Vaultz products, and I am very disappointed in this attempt to cut costs. I do not need the locks but they are the only way to close the case which makes it worse to deal with on a daily basis.

THE LOCKS! as another mentioned are junk, the first case BOTH locks went south after 6 days... I got a replacement and they worked for about 4 months and crapped out. I am very easy with my stuff and treated it nice, but the tumblers felt like any day they were going to go. I have to manually slide the locks in to hold the latches down and thats how the case closes. So far, there's been one time where the case was in the trunk and I didnt check the latches before I lifted it out (the slides had vibrated out) and all my crap fell out.The inside felt and velcro dividers are nice, but I had to pretty much re-glue everything back in place, so far so good.
I learned my lesson, on to the next.

One of the better laptop briefcases that I have ever had. At first when I ordered it, I had my doubts because I didn't feel I needed such a secure laptop case. Boy, was I in for a surprise. At work, this is the only laptop case we use. Both the lock and the sturdiness of the case have saved me occasion after occasion. To date, I've been using it for over 1 year and still no problems. I will be bringing this to the locksmith to put in solid locking mechanisms and tumblers.I also noticed there are gaps, making anything vulnerable to rain while transporting it. My simple solution is either weatherseal foam that you use for air conditioners or rubber seals for engines (valve covers) and gluing them into the "female" side of where the case closes.

The backpack is just as shown and came quickly. The colors are gorgeous and my granddaughter loves it. I was expecting there to be a larger front pocket, so was a bit disappointed there. The small zippered pocket at the bottom there won't hold much. I'm hoping the zipper holds up, as it is nylon. All in all, it's a nice backpack and she loves it.
CLASSIC CANVAS MILITARY STYLE MESSENGER BAG LAPTOP BAG
The canvas bag is as you see in the picture and is pretty heavy fabric. It looks like it will stand up to quite a bit. However, we have not had it very long and the zipper pull already came off the bag. They really needed to use a much heavier zipper. Since the top flap goes over the zipper, it is still usable but a bit disappointing the zipper broke so soon. My son still really likes the bag however. If the zipper had not broken I would have given this 4 or 5 stars as the canvas fabric is very heavy.
