STM Bags Vertical Laptop Shoulder Bag (13 in., 15 in.)

Wow, what an ordeal finding something appropriate for carrying the new 11" or 13" MacBook Air! My little 11" MBA is too big for a netbook case and too small for most of the rest of the cases out there. Who wants the case to weigh more than the computer?

Sleeves are sleek but where do you put the necessities like power supply and that inevitable shirt-pocket sized Time Machine backup drive in a sleeve? No good for me. I just wanted light weight (specs say the case is two pounds, but I weighed it at just over one) and as flat as possible but with enough space to carry the necessities.

After searching online through literally hundreds of "candidates", my seemingly endless search ended here when I decided to give this bag a try. Had it the next day (I'm one UPS Ground day from the vendor). And, for the most part, I'm happy. This little messenger bag easily carries the necessities without getting lumpy. There's plenty of room for either the 11" or 13" MBA without too much excess. There are no zippers near the MBA to mar the finish and the soft corduroy inside seems like it will give it a soft scratch-free ride.

And, if you have forgotten why you bought a featherweight laptop and want to load the case up, there's lots of spaces and pockets left for papers, a book or two, travel docs, and several gizmos (if you're into that).

Could this be trimmed down? For me, yes. I gave it five stars because I think STM did a nice job, but for the MBA owner, I think it could have been 50% flatter. That being said, until somebody comes up with something more in the spirit of the MBA, I'll carry this happily.

I want to start by saying that this bag is a 5 star bag for what it advertises and in no way am I going to drop a star because it just didn't fit my lifestyle. I'm a college student and unfortunately not every teacher has moved away from passing out physical papers and requiring assignments to be hand written. As I was putting my stuff into this bag I slowly had to put things into the "Can't fit into the bag so I'll carry it pile" This included a spiral notebook, binder, textbooks, etc. The pockets in this bag are small, they can't hold more than a couple of papers or a small magazine. Papers will get wrinkled because of how tight the pockets are.

Overall this bag is just too small for me, which is a shame because the green color, padded laptop storage, rotating shoulder strap hinges, padded shoulder strap, dedicated iPad (I used it for my kindle) slot, and vertical design are hard to come by when looking for bags. If this bag was cheaper I would have kept it for trips around town, but it I am ultimately looking for a bag that will fit all of my gadgets and still have enough room for papers.

If you're looking for a great laptop bag then this is probably the best bag I've found so far. However, if you want to hold more than just your laptop then you should look somewhere else.

As most people here, I searched for a long time for the right bag for my iPad. I found a couple that I really liked but I was not ready to pay hundreds of dollars for a bag. Maybe one day but not today. So, I found the STM Vertical bag. It looked good and the at a fair price. Let me just say that it is just about perfect daily bag for iPad. Well constructed. I feel very secure that the iPad is safely protected in it. I can carry my iPad, Apple wireless keyboard and a Griffin A-Frame table top stand in it. And there is still room for a small note book, chargers, cables and such. I really like the vertical design. It seems that I am able to dodge in and out of crowded hall ways smother with it. I love it . Well belt and it looks great.

I purchased this bag for carrying my 13" Macbook Air and iPad. I love a bullet list, so let's get right to it.

PROS:

* Very soft, lined laptop compartment

* Height and width are sized perfectly for a widescreen, 13" laptop (like the Air)

* A lined compartment for the iPad

* Handy document sleeve on the outside. Great for things like boarding pass, passport, etc.

* Well designed front zipper pocket with plenty of room for pens, power adapter, etc

* A separate flap that covers the laptop and middle compartment with extra fabric on the sides to ensure water can't get in and damage your laptop (a complaint I read with similar cases)

* Quite compact

* Removable shoulder strap pad.

* Long, adjustable strap. I'm 6'3" and at full extension, I'm still able to wear the strap across my body with length to spare.

* Fairly inexpensive.

CONS:

* Velcro -I hate the stuff and have to tear open 2 Velcro compartments to get my laptop out. Snaps or a zipper would have been preferred.

* Laptop compartment is too thick for a Macbook Air. It's sized for a full-sized 13" laptop, so the compartment is about 3 times thicker than it needs to be. I don't worry about the security of my laptop, but it's wasted space.

* Quite compact. Ok, I know that's a pro as well, but there's really no place to put anything thicker than a couple of inches. Only my tiniest, most flimsy and compact travel umbrella will fit (the pocket on the top flap). If you want to carry lunch or a snack, you can forget about it. I wanted a small bag, so I'm not complaining too much, but just be aware of the limitations

* The design is alright, but it still looks like a standard nylon laptop bag. You're not going to turn heads with this thing.

All in all, a solid bag if you're looking to haul around an iPad, 13" laptop, a few papers, and not much else.
