A REALLY great purchase.I'm giving this lovely bag the full 5 stars because it doesn't seem right to penalize the bag for Amazon't amazingly poor service. The bag has a lovely assortment of pockets and pouches, and the purple color is rich. My bag arrived without the shoulder strap that is shown in Amazon't main photograph. When I contacted Amazon's customer service this morning the rep who called me back gave me a giant, uninformed run-around, and said "It don't come with a strap" (his poor grammar, not mine!), when I asked him how he knew that so quickly, he said "I researched it." I asked how he did that and he said he looked at the item listing and since it shows three other photos without the strap that it "don't come with it".
I contacted the manufacturer, Lipault, and received a very prompt and helpful reply saying the strap does indeed come with the bag and should have been in an inside zipper pocked, and that since it was not there that they would send one out to me right away. Up to now Amazon has shown me such good customer service, but today's experience has truly shaken my confidence in the company. Highest marks for Lipault, and a total black eye for AMAZON!!!
Buy Lipault Paris Weekend Bag Now
I was looking for a somewhat small but still roomy carry-on bag and after reading the reviews here decided on ordering the Lipault Weekend bag in red. Here are my comments, in no particular order:PROs:
Well-made bag, I expect this one to last a long time
Quality hardware: The hooks for attaching the shoulder strap are made out of metal and swivel. The zipper pulls are nice and big (non-metal)
Plenty of exterior and interior pockets. I especially like the long exterior zip pockets on both the front and the back of the bag. These are ideal for quick access items such as tickets and passports. The two "cubes" in the front not only have the visible flat pockets under the flaps but also zip open on top to two quite spacious compartments
The bag can slide over the handle of a wheeled bag or suitcase for ease of transport
It is made of nylon but constructed with a rigid bottom panel that prevents it from sagging when fully loaded
Compact format: While the bag is as long as many other carry on bags, it is slightly less high and deep. This is hardly noticeable when packing but definitely makes a difference in bulk.
The color is a nice, shimmery red, very much like depicted.
CONs (minor but want to mention them anyway):
Not as light-weight as I thought this to be. I assume that much of it comes from the metal hardware and ultimately that is fine with me I much rather have good quality hardware than a very lightweight bag made with inferior materials. I just wanted to mention that this is not an ultra-lightweight bag, if that's what one were looking for.
The zip pockets under the flaps in the front are a bit hard to access due to these flaps. Probably good for smaller items one needs to keep safe and doesn't access all the time.
The interior pockets do not hold much usefulness for me personally, except for the large zippered pocket along the backside. In the interior front is a small pocket with a Velcro'd flap, just big enough for a small phone or something similar, then 4 pen slots, and finally another small open stash pocket the same size as the phone pocket; it has a plastic swivel hook for a key attached to it on a short strap.
The shoulder strap is not padded.
The logo patch as well as the handle grips are made of some pretty cheap-looking plastic material. I was really surprised at how cheap this looks, considering the price tag. This could and should definitely look a lot nicer, as far as I am concerned because it does interfere with the otherwise quality look and feel of the bag.
Another thing I would have liked to see at this price point is some kind of protective feet on the bottom of the bag.
SUMMARY:
I really like this bag for its compact format. In this day and age travelling by air has become more and more of a challenge due to weight and space restrictions, so the need for a small but functioning bag that can easily go underneath the seat is becoming more important. The Lipault Weekend bag delivers beautifully on this requirement. It still can hold everything one would need to bring, even on an intercontinental flight. I expect this to be my go-to bag for many international trips.
That said, I do believe that this bag is slightly overpriced. At this price I expect a perfect bag, especially when it comes to the details, and while the Lipault Weekend is a very good bag, I still think it could be better in the details. Since I got the red bag at a close-out price, I am OK with it, but I think the full retail price is too high, despite the nice general quality of this bag.I bought this bag to go with my 26" roll on Lipault bag. It is the perfect size, has lots of outside compartments, and the best feature is that ,not only does it have a slot to slide over the handle of the larger bag, but there is Velcro to keep it attached. I am thrilled with the luggage because it is so light and so much easier for me to lift and handle.I purchased the weekender to compliment my 22" rolling carry-on, which I love. Both fold flat, and the weekender fits in the protective bag that came with the carry-on. Together they take up very little space in my closet. I was really on the fence about the color when I purchased my carry-on, but the first time I travelled with it, I was able to find it immediately in the sea of black bags on the cart when I checked it at the gate. The weekender is a great size not too large, not too small, and nicely organized.
