STM Bags Revolution Small Laptop Backpack

STM Small Revolution Backpack, Fits Most 13' Screens, Carbon/BlackI got the small bag for my 13" MacBook. I like the construction, the look, the space, the internal laptop compartment, and the iPad sleeve built in. I don't like that the laptop compartment closes using velcro. I find the velcro can't hold the weight of a MacBook, so after walking around and I open my bag, I find the the laptop compartment is opened with my MacBook leaning out into the main compartment. I think a zippered laptop compartment is the way to go.

I purchased the STM Small Revolution after months of research on computer backpacks. I was replacing an old HP laptop bag that was designed for 17" laptops, and wanted something smaller, but still providing plenty of storage capacity. The STM Small Revolution lives up to it's name; it's definitely noticeably smaller than most backpacks. The padding is solid and it feels quite comfortable when you're wearing it. The shoulder straps are a good width and also have the right amount of padding. There's a front pocket on the right strap for holding your phone but it didn't seem to work very well with my iPhone 4G. I generally pack gadget heavy my MBA, iPhone, a PSP, an iPad, an AirPort Express, and my MiFi, all of which fits very well within the bags design. What's interesting about the Revolution is the laptop storage area. Most backpacks put the laptop against your back, but the Revolution puts a general storage compartment and the iPad sleeve between you and your laptop. I like this design as it evens out the weight of the bag when you're wearing it. The laptop compartment is well designed so your laptop is very secure when you're moving the bag around, but I wouldn't recommend trying to fit anything larger than a 13" in the Small Revolution (they have a Medium Revolution for 15"+). They say the laptop compartment is "hidden" and while that's true, the velcro system they use to close the laptop off doesn't work all that well, so the area tends to be viewable when you open the bag. The iPad sleeve is a really nice touch, it's a perfect fit for storing a tablet device. The second, smaller compartment is for all of your peripherals. This is the only area I'd wish they had designed differently. There's only one zippered compartment and that's a flat space that can fill up quickly. There's a large open pouch for storing an AC Adapter, a mouse, etc. This area should really have a zipper or at least a flap to close it off; heavier things tend shift around in transit. The pen area is standard and they have a hanging clip for your house keys I don't use it but I like the option.

Overall, this is a really solid bag. It could use a few minor tweaks and more zippered pockets but for the price I'd recommend it to anyone who's looking for a smaller laptop backpack.

I bought this bag hoping to protect my investment and so far it works! I have a case on the outside of my MacBook pro and it fights perfectly. The reason why I didn't give it five stars is because the valcrow holding the laptop in isn't very strong so sometimes I will find that it opens and side valcrow seems to be sowen in the wrong place because no matter what I do to my computer or the bag the side ones don't match up. Also, the rain jacket makes a dome in the bottom of the bag so what ever else you decide to put in it, will not be level.
