Petunia Pickle Bottom Sashay Satchel/Backpack Diaper Bag

Petunia Pickle Bottom Organic Cotton Convertible Sashay Satchel Diaper Bag : Calming Cosmos - Can Use As a Shoulder Bag or BackpackThis satchel style diaper bag is amazing! It is one of the more affordable PPB bags..and still superb quality. I own 4 PPB bags and this is the one I use the most. The Daisy Dewdrops pattern is bright and cheery. It actually goes well with a variety of outfits and not as limiting as I thought it might be. It functions well as my daily bag as it looks more like a purse. It fits my essential needs for baby (diapers, wipes, 2 bottles, toy, diaper cream, change of clothes, burp cloth, and receiving blanket) plus my wallet, cell phone, and sunglasses. I can easily fit my Dr. Brown's bottles in the outer side pockets, but the pocket is a bit more shallow than the pockets on my boxy backpack which just means the bottles fall out a little easier when the purse tips over. The diaper changing cover is the perfect size, but it can only be spot cleaned and NOT thrown in the wash. The bag itself is made of thick, durable cotton. You can tell its quality made, but the cotton fabric can pose a problem with dirt as it can only be spot wiped clean (no dry cleaning or machine washing). The base of the purse is made of a leather-type material making it easy to wipe clean when needed. One issue I have encountered, the inside pocket seam that divides the two pockets, has started to unravel in my bag after 3 months of use. The opening of the bag is narrower, because of its shape, which can be a little constricting. However, I haven't found that to be too much of a problem for me. The front exterior pocket fully opens and stays closed with a magnetic tab. The exterior back pocket has a seam, dividing it in two. I wish it did not have the seam and could open fully. That seam makes the pocket less useful for me, but I use it to store my extra straps I'm not using. I do wish there was a matching wallet in this pattern. But, overall I LOVE this bag and will continue to use it daily.

In Summary....

Pros:

-Perfect size and style for daily use

-Thick material, durable, quality made

-Roomy, fits quite a bit for its size

-Lots of pockets

-Price, One of the few large PPB bags for under $120

-Beautiful patterns to choose from

Cons:

-Can only be spot cleaned (No dry cleaning or machine washable)Both bag & diaper changing pad

-Exterior side pockets could be a tad deeper so bottles would stay in place

-Exterior back pocket has an awkward seam, constricting its usability.

-Due to the style (a tapered top), the opening narrows causing some constriction in getting things in and out...but it is minimal and does not cause a problem for me.

-One seam on the interior pocket has started to unravel, but this easily fixable.

I recently ordered three diaper bags, hoping one would work. Unfortunately (fortunately?) this bag was knocked out after only the briefest look.

** PROS **

1. It's cute.

2. I like the strap options.

** CONS **

1. It's too deep, and the side zippers don't open all the way so it's hard to reach the stuff inside the bag once you stuff it in.

2. It has very few pockets. The pockets it does have are decent, but I need WAY more organization on the inside of the bag.

3. The "four bottle pockets" are laughable--they are opposite each other on the sides/end so that if you put a bottle in one (say in the outside pocket) there's NO WAY you're getting a bottle on the inside pocket. You might be able to slip a phone in there or a packet of Kleenex but that's it. I even had to struggle to get a sippy cup in the pocket--no thank you.

When I figured out CON #3, I knew this bag was going back. Especially when combined with how deep it is and the cost.

I have this bag and have been using it for 2 months now. It has its pro's and cons:

Pros:

Great organic cotton

doesn't Look like a diaper bag

Has lots of organizational pockets inside and outside of main zipper compartment

comes with wipes case and changing pad

Cons:

For me the backpack straps are ugly and useless and just are in the way. you can tuck them into the back of the bag though.

I wish the zipper was wider. I often find myself searching to try to find something at the bottom of the bag and have to take several items out to get to it because it doesn't open up very wide.

it is too wide at the base to comfortably fit under the bugaboo cameleon stroller. You have to really stuff it in there and tug it out.

I suggest also order the PPB stroller clips with this bag because it makes carrying it around with your stroller much easier.

My son is 13 months old, and this is my 4th diaper bag. It has been so hard to find the perfect bag, and this one comes about as close as it gets!

We cloth diaper and do not eat fast foods, so a bag that is functional and large enough to hold a day's worth of diapers and food was essential. I ordered the bag in the Moonlight print ant it is fabulous. It is a very classy grey with deep yellow accents. I like the fact that it is very understated and does not come off as flashy or 'busy'. It also doesn't scream "diaper bag". I could easily wear this to a client meeting, and no one would be wiser. The backpack straps are a huge plus now that my son is walking. When I bend to pick him up or chase after him, the bag does not fall off of my shoulders and smack him in the head. I also love that the straps can be tucked away when not in use.

So far, I have 2 cloth diapers, wet bag, cover, change of clothes (including a jacket), sippy, medium food pocket carryon, assorted trucks and toys, changing pad, A&A blanket, wipes case, bug spray, suntan lotion, mommy lotion, hair brush, wallet, my personal items (lip gloss etc) and I still have TONS of room left in this bag for the added things you tend to accumulate when out with a toddler for the day.

The bag is canvas and has already accumulated some dog hair, which I expected. I wish that it wasn't spot clean only, but it will have to do. The outside bottle pockets barely fit my son's sippy and do NOT hold the insulated thermos sippy that he has; which is a shame. I'm not sure I like the look of a sippy on the outside anyway, so I might just use that for cell phone or smaller toys.

It is not obvious to me how to attach this to my stroller with stroller clips; perhaps I have to order the PPB clips and not the universal ones that I have now. Other than the sippy cup pockets and the stroller clips, I love this bag!

Oh, and I am 5'2" and I can hold the bag just by the shoulder straps and have it not touch the ground... awesome. This bag is worth every penny!

Want Petunia Pickle Bottom Sashay Satchel/Backpack Diaper Bag Discount?

I researched several bags before registering for this Petunia. I knew I wanted a backpack style bag, as it would more evenly distribute the weight & leave my hands free. This bag is comfortable enough for that, and the adjustable straps on the backpack are easy to use. I don't really like that the other handles "pop out" when you are using the backpack carry it looks a bit tacky.

The size of this diaper bag is great. When I first had LO I thought it was going to be a bit small, however as I have gotten more savvy with what I actually need to take with me when out and about (i.e. I realized I don't need 15+ diapers, 4 burp cloths, 5 changes of clothes, etc...) the bag has room to spare. I usually pack around 7 diapers, a full bag of wipes (70+ wipes), 3 changes of clothes, 2 burp cloths, food, pacifier, a small "mommy supply" clutch, 2 toys, a pacifier and 1-2 mommy snacks, and STILL have room to add more.

So for a LITTLE while I thought this bag was great the only minor flaw being the way the straps pop out as I mentioned above. Plus, my friends have them, my family has them and the bag is cute. So...why 2 stars?

Well, one bright and sunny day my LO and I were out exploring the world and something got spilled ALL OVER the bag. These bags are spot clean only. Since it had gotten all over, I threw caution into the wind and tossed it into the washing machine. I figured it was ruined if I didn't anyway, and could it REALLY be that bad? Well, yes. It came out with the colors all distorted, some yellowing, and not the polished, pretty bag you want to have as the accessory to you and your darling LO.

If I would have used common sense, I NEVER would have registered for this bag. Ummmm, hello? Having kids = TONS of things spilling, dirt = fun, sometimes fun is measured by the amount of mess that has been made, etc. I need a diaper bag that can handle life, and never have to worry that I might soil it, or that it might pick up dirt from being on the ground, etc. So, I will move on to my next diaper bag adventure.
