Moroccan Straw Summer Beach / Shopper / Tote Shoulder Bag 21" X 13"

I bought this sort of thinking it'd be like a tote or large purse (yes, I know it says the dimensions on the descritpion, I'm bad with numbers.) Anyway, it actually has more in common with a wicker basket you might keep in the corner of the room for magazines or cat toys or something. It would probably make a good beach bag or market bag. Also, as soon as I opened the box, the entire room was flooded with the scent of freshly mown hay.

I had a straw basket similar to this one that lasted me 8 years of heavy beach/travel use. (it was a martha stewart product with a canvas liner and very short twine handles-the twine handles have finally unraveled). My only complaint about my old bag was the handles weren't sturdy and i really wished i had long shoulder straps instead of short handles. Well, THIS bag is AWESOME. Same handwoven quality durable basket, with the perfect leather sturdy shoulder straps I always wanted. I think this bag might even be a little larger than the measurements listed. This bag is not lined but that is no big deal, i think i like it better that way! :)

YOU WILL NOT REGRET THIS PURCHASE, FANTASTIC ITEM. I am sure i will have at least a decade's worth of travels and beach excursions with this one!

I wrote a review for this product previously (it was exactly the same as this, but with confetti colors woven in it). After my bad review, the seller removed that product and introduced the same as a new product, so I am posting my review here too. I have been told by an Amazon representative that I should report sellers who do that, and that it is a violation of their agreement with Amazon.

My review read:

In two places on the bottom of the bag, finish knots were poorly executed and were coming undone. The very first time I put anything in the bag, and used it for the beach, they were destined to become holes and render the bag useless. There were also some long gangly strings hanging from the bottom of it. For the price, you would think they would trim those off for the buyer... honestly, I saw straw bags that were nicer than this for nineteen dollars at Target and TJ Maxx.

Finally, the bag had a gross odor. It was obviously the leather, but as you all know, new leather can smell good, or it can smell like chemicals, or it can just smell like dead animal. This smelled like dead animal. Immediately when I opened the box, the smell hit me in the face and triggered my asthma and chemical sensitivity. I'm guessing that sitting out in the pouring rain for an hour caused whatever smell it had to morph... the product was pretty damp (see delivery comments below).

All in all, I think this is a cheap product. It's the kind of thing that you can probably buy from a street vendor in Morocco for three bucks.

Just a note about the delivery service. I rarely pay for shipping, opting to use free Super Saver whenever possible. I broke down and paid this time... FedEx showed up instead of UPS. They are well aware of my house and where to deliver, and for those who don't know, I have signs clearly posted. FedEx chose to ignore my signs, and left the package on my deck in the pouring rain. Had the carrier walked just another two feet, he could have left it under the roof on my deck, and protected my shipment. I was rather angry when I found my soggy package out there. I receive a lot of packages, and that's the first time in many years that anyone has left a package out to be ruined.

Luckily it was only out there for a little over an hour before I found it. Otherwise the product would have been completely ruined.

I am requesting a refund and sending this back. Hopefully they will refund the shipping charge too. What a waste of my time and energy this was.

To add insult to injury, when I contacted the vendor with my complaint, all I got back was a very curt email... a one-liner of "I will send you a return label so that you can send the product back to the seller." That's it. No, "We're so sorry you were disappointed with our product," no "let us try to make you a happy customer," NOTHING. Like they couldn't care less about me and my bad experience. I buy a LOT of stuff online, and yeah it is a crap shoot as far as what you're going to get... but oftentimes you are pleasantly surprised. Other times, you just can't believe how little a seller cares about you... and this is one of those times. Had they handled it differently, I might have tried an exchange. But getting attitude made me go right out and buy something different, and I won't look back.

I don't usually upload pictures of my bad experiences, but getting that curt email really ticked me off and made me want to go the extra mile to protect others from going through this unnecessary aggravation.

P.S. Got the return label on 6/25/11. FedEx again... Grrrr... the closest FedEx shipping location is a ten minute drive each way, in horrendous traffic. Usually the traffic in that part of town is so bad that it takes me 20 mins. each way. I can't used the closer self serve locations, because the box is too big. I am NOT a happy camper over this order!!!! The least they could have done is to issue a FedEx pickup for me, and I would have had one small good thing to say about this experience!
