The idea is great, and the surface has a very good feel to it. Fit on the MacBook is good: It goes on pretty quickly and seems to stay on just fine. I expect this will protect the device quite well over the years to come. My goal wasn't so much to keep the laptop from scratching, but rather to give it a little bit of heft -I know, it seems counter-intuitive to add bulk to such a thin device, but the two additional layers add a little strength, and when I carry it around, I know it's there.

However, immediately when I opened it, I noticed that there was a large, unsightly glue-drop on the lip of the bottom side. If it were just a cosmetic problem, I might have let it slide -although, when paying almost $50 for what is essentially two pieces of plastic, I would expect something that doesn't look like factory seconds. However, the hardened drop is just high enough to keep the MacBook from closing properly and actually pushed the lip of the top shell up and, I fear, eventually off.

Let's hope this will be resolved between Amazon and the reseller quickly. When it does, I will revise my review accordingly. If it's after March 2013, and this review is still unchanged, then my complaint wasn't resolved and I recommend looking for this product from a different reseller.

After purchasing my 15" Macbook Pro with retina screen, I needed a laptop cover that would provide reasonable protection against bumps (and not only scratches) in transit. Because my laptop gets substantial use I needed to stop cradling my precious, fragile baby, and use it fearlessly.

The polycarbonate casing on the STM Grip does give me this peace of mind (particularly with the corners of the screen), and is very simple to install and fits perfectly. I like the inner microsuede lining which supposedly stops dirt getting in the case, and the outer soft touch and tactile lines which aren't quite rubbery but do give me a much better grip than the smooth aluminum did. There are foot nubs on the bottom cover, which very slightly elevate the laptop. At this early stage, I haven't had issues with overheating and the design leaves all the vents in my MBP open, although its likely that the bottom cover does prevent some heat dispersion. It is also easy to put on and take off at any time, if needed.

The only material downside is that It does increase the size of my Macbook, and the cover adds 0.9 pounds. Depending on your perspective, this is either a dealbreaker or gives the MBP some heft, so it doesn't feel so fragile. For me, this was a price I am willing to pay, as my focus is on everyday functionality and performance. Visually, I quite like the minimalist aesthetics, and I don't need to advertise the Apple logo at the back of my screen.

I chose STM, as I've had a positive experience with their customer service concerning their backpacks in the past. They are an Australian company who produce cases and bags for ipads etc. They don't disappoint here as the construction is good quality and sturdy.

Before choosing this protector, I considered the Wrapsol and Zagg offerings, which preserved the look of the Macbook, but it seemed like a huge pain to apply with sprays and precision etc. and while these products seemed to protect against scratching, I wanted something that would also make my Macbook feel more substantial from minor physical mishandling as it moves between work and home, and is subjected to a decent amount of use, and could give me a substantially better grip on my Macbook. I also considered the Speck hard cases, which do look more form fitting and sleek, but seem themselves prone to visible scratching, and don't appear to give a significantly better grip.

The challenge for Macbook protector cover manufactures is to fuse streamline design with decent impact protection, and I think the STM Grip does the job quite well, without too many compromises either way. Overall, a good choice if you value protection and functionality a little over the MBP aesthetic, but still want a cover that is definitely visually sexy.

I like to keep my products in cases as to prevent scratching from every day use and to prevent damages when dropped and to keep the resale value high. The STM Grip case does exactly as it should. Snapped on with very little issue. The snap above the iSight camera was the most difficult, but no a huge problem. The case is pretty snug, but I do feel some give/play around the hinge, as there are no clips holding the case on in this location. Not a big deal at all. I like the idea of the micro-suede lining to protect against scratches from dust. I will see in time if this feature does as it should. The rubbery grip makes the computer much easier to hold, as well as the horizontal ridged texture. The only downside, if there is one, is the apple logo is not visible with the case installed. Not a big deal for me as I never see the back of the screen when using it! ;) If anything, the lack of seeing the logo protects from theft? The case does add some weight to the laptop. A little more than I expected, but still allows for a super thin and light weight experience. I give this product 4.5 stars as nothing is perfect, but five stars was my only option.

Overall, a great product. Sleek design with functional protection.

The plastic feels cheap and most of the improved grip comes from the grooves. It would have felt like an OK investment at $20, but I feel like they're preying on people who already paid a premium for their laptop-why not inflate the price of the case, too? Not worth it. Keep looking.

easy to attach and remove from my macbook. Durable material and is grippy as the name suggests.

Only downside is that edges of the case do run slightly higher then the edge of the computer where you would rest your palms.
