I was rather disappointed, as I'm in the middle of a trip overseas and was hoping to be able to contact the vendor without writing a review, to see if the problem can be corrected. Unfortunately, it does not appear that Amazon offers this service, so I am reduced to writing this review.I have been traveling for about 5 weeks and the three locks that I purchased were working perfectly until today, on a trip where I had just taken two of them along. I was flying from Munich to Barcelona and was asked by security to open my carry on case, which was locked. I was able to unlock it, and lock one of the loops, but the other loop would not lock. When I arrived in Barcelona, got my luggage and went to the Tourist Office at the airport, I had to open my carry on as my hotel information was locked inside. Though I had the correct combination, the lock would not open. The Tourist Office then sent me to Customs, which directed me to another Terminal, where no one could help, and I finally returned to the original terminal and went to the Air Berlin Information Desk for help. He informed me that if I had known the lock was defective BEFORE I came through the arrivals gate, one of the personnel there could have opened it; but once through the arrivals gate, you can not go back. I explained my desperate need, as I had been running around for over an hour and did not even have the address of my guest house, as it was locked inside the case. The man was good enough to offer to cut the lock which he did, surprisingly with an ordinary pair of scissors.
Now I am torn about using the remaining two locks, wondering if they will fail and again leave me running around strange airports for hours. . I left one lock behind in the Munich apartment where I am staying and am left with only one working lock and the fear that the combination will fail again. I will have to buy another lock on the market here.
This is extremely disappointing and has colored my view of these locks ordinary travel and after 5 weeks one suddenly doesn't work? I had read a review of someone who had this same experience, but not in the middle of a trip.
I am both disappointed in the failure of the lock and then concerned that an ordinary pair of scissors can cut through the wire loop.
I would appreciate hearing from the vendor about this.
UPDATE: 16 days later and on a Sunday, I'm getting ready to fly again on Monday. The second of the three locks has now failed. It won't lock on one side, and following the lead of the first failed lock, it will completely fail. So here I am on a Sunday and flying out in the morning and another failed locked. 67% failure rate and it looks like I'll have to replace all three before this trip is done.
One of the locks failed, by the way, and we had to have a TSA agent come to the plane with his key (007), which also failed to open the lock. We cut the lock off with a giant bolt cutter, and advised Amazon. The lock was replaced before we could even send the failed one back, and we've had no problem since. Kudos, Amazon.

I did not order this through Amazon but the lock is the same as the one I bought. Hopefully this will be helpful to someone. I purchased this about 2 months before my vacation. Tried it once, worked great. Went to try it out again, was frozen would not work at all! Contacted the company twice and they finally sent me another one. Worked fine. But like before, it froze the night before my trip. So I had no choice but to cut the lock off. What a waste of money this thing is. I didn't find it as flexible as I thought it would be either. Just a thought here... I love these locks and was surprised to see negative reviews. Then I remembered my FIRST use and want to share this experience.Here is what happened to me the very first time I was putting the lock onto my suitcase. I did not realize that I slid the RESET side of the slider instead of the opposite side... That resets the combo to whatever I happened to have had in the dial. This only happens when the lock has been opened with the correct combo in the first place. Having opened one side as noted above, if you had happened to move the numbers, then hit the reset side -you would have changed the combination without realizing it! Now I am just very aware of what numbers are in the combo when I close it and stay away from that red RESET button!
One more thing... I believe that you must lock the "short loop" side through the zipper slider holes (what TSA might need to get at) and the longer loop to something permanant on your suitcase. That way, when TSA opens the lock and forgets to relock it, you still have your lock. If you use the "long loop" to lock the zippers sliders, I'm not sure TSA can unlock that side. (And even if they can, you don't want them to lest THEY hit that RESET slide!)
If someone is going to break in, they will find a way. (I've had several regular TSA locks totally smashed upon arrival.) I'm just glad to still have my lock attached to the bag with this one -I've lost several other TSA locks in the past with either not putting it back at all or forgetting to close and lock it! And I know it was TSA because in both missing lock cases, the TSA white sheet was in the bag!

This lock is very good. IT is very easy to set the combination number ( Just make sure u remember it) I have a huge luggage with long zippers. I was able to lock my zippers with just this one lock. It is very flexible.I recommend it .

I bought this bag from a local Tumi store in August (4mo. ago). Its obviously pricey ($495 when I got it), but its a very well constructed and stylish bag. I've received 3 unprompted compliments for its style, and I have no complaints about its construction. Aside from style, the big advantage is that the bag can unzip on the side to expand. I've found this really handy. I can pack it full when I need, but most days it is zipped close, which makes it easier to manage and takes up less room.The laptop area holds my iPad, though loosely. I don't have a laptop, so I can't speak to how well or what size works.
The back has a smaller pocket that closes with a single magnet. I've found its useful for light paperwork. It also has a zipper along the bottom so the bag can be slid onto the expanding handlebar of rolling luggage.

Knirps Luggage X1 Umbrella
I bought my first Knirps while in college, in 1967. However, after 45 years of use, it finally gave out.I bought this little item, which is a little smaller than my original folding Knirps, and it works great! Because it is half the size of my original Knirps folding umbrella, it fits in more places, like the jacket pocket, the sweatshirt kangaroo pocket, etc. Thus, it will go more places!

The first one of these I bought lasted five years, and it was still remarkably nice when I lost it. It's the only umbrella its size I've found that can survive downtown San Francisco and Manhattan wind tunnels created by the tall buildings. I didn't hesitate to buy another. The ability to just shake the rain off to completely dry does wear off with age, and I only realized that when I got this new one and was reminded how well my first one shook off rain when I first bought it. Even after years, it just needs to be left out of its case for half an hour after use to let it dry out. But the shake-it-off and put-it-back-in-its-case-immediately niceness sure is welcome when it's new. This umbrella is VERY cheaply made. One of the wires (connecting the ribs) was caught in the fabric and ripped it upon first opening. The framework is SO flimsy. I wouldn't have paid $10 for it, much less $30. Returned it for a refund. Do not bother purchasing this product. Shame on Knirps for manufacturing it, and shame on Amazon for selling it!

Researching for months for a camping pack that would make sense. Decided against all the new-fangled stuff out there for $150+ and just went with what's always worked. This pack arrived in great shape. There were two or three small mended holes in the bottom of the main compartment. No big deal for what I paid. Adds a little character, if you ask me.Aside from that, it's a US Military surplus pack. No muss, no fuss. No plastic on the thing. Buckles and straps only. No D-clips, no quick clips. You can pack in and hang so much gear off this thing that you find yourself looking for stuff to put in it. Bed rolls, camp cook gear, sundries and food, extra clothing, shelter, all your specialized small kits... it'll all fit in there with room to spare. I can do 3+ days with packed food out of this kit no problem.
It's too big, honestly, for the day packer or the day hunter. All that pack space is just not necessary. Go for a medium ALICE or a haversack instead. If you want to pack the kitchen sink (or be the food and gear pack-mule for your kids' camping trip) you can't go wrong with this pack.

This item is great i gave it a 4 because there are looks to be limestone rock stains all over the inside. and you'll need the frame for it as well or you'll be carrying it by hand which would not be fun. i knew it was a used item but surprised how well the condition was.... go ahead and buy it, it has alot of room and fits everything plus more than what i use to have in my other bug out bag. now two great bug outs for my house and vehicle.

The nice thing about the Designer Sleeve is that I cant tell that it will last. The images on the sleeve are not silk screen like that NY brand, so the colors will stay more vibrant and vivid for years to come. I recently took my first vacation daring not to check my luggage (and pay for it) and go solely carry-on. I looked at a number of bags on Amazon and chose this one. It far exceeded my expectations. It has packing space everywhere you can imagine and in fact, when I returned home and was unpacking, I found even more spots that I hadnt noticed before. I had the bag packed as full as it could be returning from my trip and really didnt think it would fit in the overhead, but, it did! The handle and wheels work wonderfully too and zip in for storage really easily. I absolutely love this bag. Five stars plus!

I bought this backpack for a roadtrip with some friends. Since it's a roadtrip I couldn't take a suitcase with me so I decided to buy a traveling backpack instead. I knew that SwissGear is a good brand for backpacks and after looking through Amazon I decided to buy this one.When I received this backpack I knew that this is a high quality product after unpacking it. The material is very durable and the zippers are huge and strong. I was amazed by how much stuff this backpack can pack! I fitted in about 12 shirts and underwear, 1 sweater, 1 jacket, 1 pair of pants, 5 pairs of socks, 1 laptop, and some small stuff such as shaver, toothbrush, chargers, camera, etc. It is just like a small suitcase!
Right now I'm also using this for my college, I usually need to carry a lot of books and a laptop. The back of the backpack has a thick "cushion" and my shoulders and back don't feel sore at all.

My husband needed a new backpack to carry his 17" laptop. What makes finding the right backpack difficult is the fact his laptop is at least 2" deep. It's fairly old, but still runs like a dream, so no upgrading if the size is the only problem.This backpack provided details about the size of the laptop compartment so we were pretty sure it would fit (we have had some disagreements with published dimensions before). It worked. The backpack also has enough other compartments and storage to hold his massive power brick for the laptop, gaming mouse, headphones, hard cover book, and snacks.
He's pretty rough on gear and this is still going strong despite 3 long distance trips and cross country trip. We would recommend this backpack.

Purchased this bag for my son to begin high school and hold his laptop/tablet and books. The grey tab on the top of this bag came unstitched (never used!) and then the shoulder strap began to unravel after about 4-5 months. Called ebags and had to take photos and email them to a place in NY for an "authorization number". Then had to mail the bag for repair to Florida with authorization number. Several weeks later a new bag arrived (Yahoo!) Unfortunately, the EXACT same thing happened to the new bag! Four months later the whole thing began unraveling. The stitches used to assemble the bag are a "basting stitch" or a very long, running stitch not meant for permanent assembly. The stitches are almost 1/4 inch long so they are not very strong and do not hold the strap to the body of the bag. My advice is to pay a little more and get another bag that lasts! I told my son, "No more Swiss Gear". They are handsome in appearance but poorly constructed.

I didn't think that it was possible! The Gii version of this superb bag is even more secure than my previous 250. It holds my Kindle in its cover and my tablet in its cover in the main compartment. The Gii has a deeper front-pocket compartment with two deeper sections (plus two pen holders). One section offers RFID protection for those who carry credit cards or a passport with micro chips (RFIDsafe keeps hi-tech identity thieves from downloading personal information stored in the chips); in the second pocket I keep my keys on chain attached to the key clip so I can unlock doors without detaching from the bag. Instead of a change-purse size little compartment on the front of the front pouch, there is a deep pocket on the back of the bag that is against the body (I really like this); the older bag lacks this back pocket. Side pockets are adequate for an umbrella or water bottle and secure location for my cell. The bag I chose is a grayer blue-gray than pictured on my monitor but that might be a quirk in my display. I bought my first bag for travel but enjoy the many features for daily use and after several years the old bag shows little wear even though I have used it daily.

Having added an iPad to my things to take on a trip, I needed a bigger bag to carry about each day while on vacation. This bag turned out to be a very excellent choice. The iPad and the sleeve I keep it in both fit very well in the pocket designed for this; so it was easy for me to remove and to replace the iPad when I needed to do so. As the weather was rainy, I was delighted with the expandable side pockets that either clip tightly to the sides of the pack or open to allow me to carry an umbrella on one side and my LLBean water bottle on the other. The pocket in the front has several well-thought-out pockets so that I could carry a tiny flashlight, my pen, passport, international drivers license and a lot more.I liked having both a handle that allowed me to carry this with one hand and a strap which I used most of the time that allowed me to sling this over my shoulder and keep the pack itself hanging comfortably between my side and my arm. The pack is very well constructed, and I appreciated having the wire-reinforcement in the strap so that it could not easily be slashed and the bag stolen from me. Although the wire-reinforcement adds stiffness to the strap, it was something I got used to without much of a problem.
Overall I must conclude that I am very satisfied with the construction, appearance, thoughtful design, and practicality of this Pacsafe shoulder bag...

Wow! I love this bag. I have been on a quest for the perfect bag and may have just found it. I was willing to risk the significant price since this product had a free return policy.I don't really care about the slash-free aspects of this product. If someone has a razor or knife that close to me, they can have the bag. However, the pick pocket deterring zipper clips are an excellent feature. They make it difficult for a hand to quickly slip into the bag. They also make it unlikely the bag will accidentally come open allowing items to fall out.
This bag also holds a tremendous amount comfortably for its small size.
Currently, I can COMFORTABLY carry the following, with no bag distortion:
small calendar
Ipad, in bulky leather protective case
LARGE wallet (contains checkbook, about 20 credit/id cards, several individually wrapped Tazo tea bags, about half a dozen splenda packs, cash, a couple of dental floss picks)
Case Logic padded pouch (contains video ipod, earbuds, electric wall charging adaptor and two cords to charge ipad/ipod and phone, jump drive with neck strap
4+ pens/pencils
several kinds of meds. 3 of these each take about the space of an inhaler. I also keep a small weekly med organizer in here. The smaller items are in a cloth pouch.

There is also space where I could add the following items while traveling on a plane (I would remove them after arriving at my destination when I would use this as a daypack/purse
Small bag of extra snacks in case of air delays
Sleep mask
Inflatable pillow
If I wanted to travel with ONLY this as a carry-on, I "could" manage to fit the following in without too much discomfort, as well:
ziplock bag of cosmetics (foundation, coverup, eye liner, mascara, blush, powder, lip gloss).
Spare ziplock bag or two
Lightweight crushable tshirt, undergarments, and socks in case of lost luggage.
Microfiber washcloth with ziplock bag -nice for washing up in the airport or on the plane.
Realize that adding all of this would not leave much extra space in the bag!!!!

I tried 3 bags and chose this one because of its size and ease of use. I was seeking a comfortable travel bag, not necesssarily one with the security features of the Pacsafe.I looked at the Keen Brooklyn II travel bag and the Pacsafe 200. The Keen is a nice bag, but velcro closures felt insecure, plus it lacked sufficient room, and I was concerned about storing my phone in an outside pocket.
The Pacsafe 200 is a great bag, but not quite large enough for my travel needs. The Pacsafe 250 holds everything I need plus a little extra. In the plane, I like to unhook the strap, roll it up and stuff it into an end pocket out of the way. Among the items in the bag, an iPad, iPhone and chargers, water bottle, Bose noise cancelling earphones in case, sunglasses & reading glasses, passport, wallet, tickets, esrplugs & sleep mask, etc. lots of room.
I rated it 4 instead of 5 because I would like to see a couple more small pockets inside. I travel with several small items that I had to put together in a plastic bag. However, no regrets on this purchase. Great quality and smart design.

As a slinder girl i was concerned about size of an external frame pack. After trying an internal frame pack and a military style pack i tried my husbands external frame pack. The weight distribution was better, having a shelf to lash your sleeping bag to creates a generous amount of storage and it was a great fit for me. I bought this pack for my 12 year old son to use for Scouts and other camping trips. It is perfect! Easy to pack, relatively light weight, roomy compartments fit everything very nicely, adjustable for growing youth. Highly recommended! I paid $89 (Amazon) for my oldest son, now I see it on sale for $62 (Amazon). I am buying another for my son turning 11 next month and starting scouts.

This is a great backpack that really fit what I was looking for. The straps are pretty comfortable, and the capacity is ok. I can fit my macbook pro, and maybe 3 2" Binders in the main compartment. The handle located at the top, between straps is strangely small and thin, I'm worried it's going to rip. I expected a thick and padded handle, this is almost hard to hold onto. There are also some extremely unnecessary straps that will dangle maybe a foot below the bottom while wearing, I have since stuffed them into a pocket so they won't trip me or look stupid. Other than those oddities, the backpack does its job, and I'm pleased.Save 24% Off
ALPS Mountaineering Synergy Backpack
I recently had the opportunity to use this backpack for its intended purpose. I put it to a pretty good test on desert sandy soils as well as slickrock hiking and some moderate free-climbing on the desert trails in Arches National park and other hikes around Moab, UT.In the test it saw 4-8 hour hikes. Pack weight was over 30+ lbs and the hikes started at 4500-5000 feet elevation. Some of these hikes had some pretty good exposure to elevation on "slickrock" ledges and fins, some of which were only about 6-10 ft wide and with a 40 ft drop on one side and 400-500 foot drop on the other!
I like the style, even though it was selected for more practical reasons. The photos on this website, as of this writing, are a pretty good representation of this pack's looks, so I'll let you be your own judge as to that.
I loaded this pack up with medical supplies, including but not limited to medications, splints, wraps, bandages, etc. I also had all of my standard survival gear including survival knife, firestarting gear, compass/navigation gear, and emergency "caught out" gear. The only camping/survival gear I did not include was my multi-fuel stove, which was left out for space considerations. Had I not been taking all of my medical gear (I was in Moab for a wilderness medicine conference.) I would have easily had room to include the stove. I also had all of my camera gear, including a sizeable tripod which got attached to the exterior of the pack using the external adjustable straps. Finally, I included 2 full military MRE's and 2 liters of water in 500ml bottles, plus another 1qt in a military canteen attached to the waist strap via "Alice" clips.
Miscellaneous items that also made the trip included a windproof jacket and a fleece jacket. (The desert can have a wide range of temperatures in October!)
The pack stored and organized all of these items nicely. Access was convenient--especially once you memorize where you put everything. Especially appreciated were the double side compression straps on the sides and gear straps on the bottom of the pack. These allowed me to put the tripod either horizontally underneath the pack OR vertically on either side of the pack. The tripod was held securely throughout hiking in all 3 positions. Internally stored gear was held securely in place by the double side compression straps whether or not they were also holding the tripod.
I did not carry a sleeping bag or tent, so I am unable to comment on their wear/use with this pack.
I had primarily picked this pack because the suspension system promised comfortably distributing the load throughout the back. The product blurb promises all day comfort and delivered on all-day hikes in the desert with over 30lbs of gear. This pack was so comfortable that although my legs were conscious of carrying extra weight, the feel of the pack itself and its straps seemed to "disappear" after a few minutes of wear. For that alone, I loved this pack!
The waist strap functioned well. The shoulder, waist and sternum straps all adjusted easily and well, and securely kept their desired positions without any further adjustment during the entire week of on-and-off hiking I put it through.
Zippers seemed solid with durable, easy pulls. The zippers never bound with the material of the pack, but did bind a few times with cloth of the fleece jacket carried in the pack's interior. This was a very minor problem at worst.
This is a versatile, comfortable and very ergonomic pack. Although the low price made me wonder when I ordered whether it's construction would be with flimsy material or slipshod design. Happily that worry was nowhere NEAR the truth! Materials and design were quite solid. All in all, who knows? There may be better backpacks out there, but I have no hesitation in recommending this pack to anyone, especially since it's price compares extremely favorably with the vast majority of serious hiking backpacks.
I'd buy this pack again with no hesitation.

I was hoping for more of a snug fit for my HP Pavilion dm1. Turns out there is about an inch+ room allowing the laptop to shuffle within the case when zippered. The thickness of the case made me question its durability. The full zipper is nice-however, without a snug fit there will never be a use case where I operate the laptop within the case itselfPros:

-To large for HP Pavilion dm1 11.6 laptops

Some points not clear from the product description:When empty this frameless pack will easily fit into a standard roll-on 22" suitcase, taking only a few cubic inches of space.
It has stretchy side pockets on both sides, suitable for small water bottles. The lower compression straps pass inside the pockets, so you can use the straps to provide additional security for, say, a camera.
The main top collar closes up tight; for casual day pack use you can remove the top pocket and have a bag that's even lighter and easier to use.
The left waist belt pocket is see-through mesh. The right is opaque rip-stop.
Materials and workmanship are the best available and assembly is perfect. Careful attention was given to many small details for example elastic is sewn into the top pocket skirt, and the hauling loop is sewn into a reinforced seam that runs around the whole pack.
This bag weighs 1 pound and the only back support is a small, thin piece of foam!!!! It's a minimalist pack, so unless you have low weight minimalist gear or plan to use it for a day pack, it's not going to fit your needs. The exos and talon weigh twice as much and have a strong(ish) frame, so if your gear is a bit on the heavier side it's obvious which pack better fits your usage.
Most of all this is not a pack for large torso people! I am 6 feet 170 pounds and the M/L works great (S/M would be too small). However, if you are 215 pounds or so, try the fit in person before you buy it.
With that said....
All my gear that I regularly take backpacking is around 7-10 pounds depending on season (not counting water/food).
This is the best pack I've ever owned (despite the price) for my needs, which is primarily ultralight 1-7 day backpacking in Utah deserts.
I currently own the 44 talon, 26 manta, 6 raptor, 32 hornet and I've had 5+ other osprey packs and the hornet is my favorite!!!
Osprey makes hands down the best backpacking products (besides cuben fiber companies like zpacks that cost $$$) I've come across, and you can't go wrong buying any of them.
HOWEVER, make sure that pack you're looking at buying fits your own specific needs!
16 pounds or less, pack the hornet meticulously and you will love it. I haven't been able to use a hydration bladder due to the barrel effect they create on non-framed packs, so keep that in mind.

Putting design descriptions aside... we've read all about it's stretchy pockets and removable pad. Peak-bagging this-and-that. Those are great, but this pack falls short when it comes time to load it up and hit the trail for an overnight. I had hoped to use this for a day pack taking enough for a light overnight. Bivy, Ti Sol, etc. However, when I loaded the pack to full capacity with the essentials and a few extras, it practically collapsed under the weight around 25 lbs or so. The pack pulled so far away from my upper body it was almost comical. No manner of strap adjustments would right the load. I even unpacked and repacked to redistribute the weight a bit more effeciently. No luck. I finally removed extras until the load was reduced yet still sufficient for an ultralight overnight. By this time the compression straps were almost completely cinched and the pack was essentially 'half full'. Finally, it felt like I would expect it to.I have owned Osprey (and various others) packs since 1991 and have given this pack a fair try. If you want to 'stash' this pack inside another pack for peak-bagging or inside your travel luggage for trapsing around your vacation, that will likely work out quite well. However, if you are looking for something that carries an ultralight overnight load, you might want to consider something a bit more substantial. Of course, your results may vary.
I also own the Exos46 as my largest pack with ultralight gear it's more than enough for multi-day trips and am considering the 34 version to replace this Hornet 32.
I hope this helps those considering which pack will suit your needs best.
ALPS Mountaineering Synergy Backpack
Light, but strong nylon materials. Plenty of pockets. Zippers are large and seem to be of very high quality easy to zip. Hip belt is helpful when I bike to work. Fits very well. Overall, very high quality. Love this pack.
I trust this pack will prove to be as reliable as my former ALPS Trekker model, which unfortunately was stolen out of my car recently. :(

I love the maker of these bags but this one was just too small.
