Aqua-Quest 'The Sport' Waterproof Backpack Dry Bag - 30 L / 1800 cu. in. Charcoal Model

Aqua-Quest 'The Sport' Waterproof Backpack Dry Bag - 30 L / 1800 cu. in. Charcoal ModelThere's no information online about these, so I'll sum it up for you. This is made from high quality backpack material with a rubber(ish) inside lining. The waterproofing looks and feels sort of like the same material as hot glue. The stitch and seams have all been sealed over. The waterproofing is done with a velcro seal at the top then rolled over itself three or four times and clipped. If you look at the pictures, that top "handle" looking thing with the clicking buckles is actually how it seals itself against water.

The good:

-This has good storage capacity. It is basically a single compartment bag with straps and water bottle holders. I am a hammock camper and can fit my entire setup in this. Hammock, tarp, bug net, sleeping bag, and emergency survival kit (much more and you'll start to lose the waterproofing read on for more info). It has expansion loops on the back of the main body for other attachments. I keep extra para cord and carabiners in case I need to carry more.

-The craftsmanship is very good. No loose strings, no shoddy stitching, and good fabric quality. The straps and buckles aren't going to break any time soon and the snapping buckles hold together well.

-It is quite light. I'm not a huge backpacker (furthest I've gone is maybe 10 miles to camp and 10 to trek out), but this seems very light. It's design is almost minimalistic. There's no extra fluff or padding to weigh it down, although this could be bad if comfort is your main priority.. as such

-This bag is generally very comfortable. The position this bag rests against you is the best I have felt (again, not a TON of experience with backpacks). There is vital padding on the shoulders and hips.

The not so good:

-I'm 6'2", 155 pounds and this bag is a little short for me. In order for the shoulder pads to rest on my shoulders I have to since them about half way tight. When I do this the waste strap rides up a little above my belly button and the sternum strap is still a little high on toward my neck.

-If you over stuff this bag then it is impossible to get the number of folds at the top to make the waterproof seal. It will still close just fine, but water will be able to seep inside.

-This isn't so much bad as a note. This is the "sport basic" model. It is exactly that. It is set up for holding some gear and drinks. That's it. No fancy pockets or gizmos. There isn't a single zipper on this. No extra padding or framing. This is a waterproof sports bag. That's it.

I tied this to a cord and let it drag in a creek for fifteen minutes or so. I made sure there was plenty of water pushing at the top where the seal is made... by keeping it upstream (right in the current) and pretty much submerged. I opened it to to find the inside dry. A little bit of water went in while I was opening it because the cloth retained a few drips around the folds, but if I was a bit more careful this would have been easily prevented.

Anyway, if you want a bigger daypack, or an overnight pack. This is a very good choice. And it doesn't cost any more than a normal, non-waterproof bag of the same quality. I'm pleased with mine.

I am 6 ft 162 pounds, and this fits extremely well and very comfortable. This backpack is a great universal size. This was most I have paid for a backpack, so I did hesitate at first, but as I've learned over the years you usually get what you pay for. This backpack feels like quality, very solid, very well made and I have no doubt it will last many years of abuse from my backpacking and hiking adventures. Side pockets, hold my 27 and 40 ounce Klean Kanteen bottles perfectly. Remember their are no internal pockets on this model, but I knew that before I purchased this backpack so I am completely satisfied with my purchase.

Fast shipping and great customer service as well.

I bought this bag after looking at the crazy prices for sissy bar bags ($100 and up), straps to the bar by the shoulder straps, depending on the weight I have in it I may add some bungees, holds a lot and when im not using it I roll it up and stores away tight in the saddlebags

I have been using it lately to carry my cameras inside and going into muddy mangrove forests , it gives me a good peace of mind to know things are save in there, I tested it before and survived being dipped in water and lots of sprayed water. The D rings can be used to clip other items to the bag.
