It's also large enough that I can include other items in addition to my equipment and laptop, which is a bonus given the restrictions on luggage on airlines nowadays.Some other useful features: it has an included sleeve for your laptop, straps for a tripod, an included padlock and lots and lots of pockets. I feel very confident placing my equipment in this bag to keep it safe. The price is a bit high, but it's a durable piece of luggage and equipment storage that will last a long time.

This is a great travel bag for the professional photographer or even a weekend amateur who likes to travel to get his shots.There are many useful and well-padded compartments for your camera bodies, lenses, tripods, and laptop. The bag is well-built with excellent finishing and it pulls easily due to high quality wheels. Although a little pricey at $300, this bag can also serve as a regular travel bag with the removal of various compartments.

I've had countless consumer-level camera bags, an enthusiast-level bag, a hard-shelled padded case, and now this Vanguard professional travel bag. This is definitely the best of the lot; very high quality with a thoughtful design.I have no trouble getting two SLR bodies, 5 lenses, and a flash unit in it. Could get another lens in there, or if not carrying a second body, a larger telephoto or two more lenses.
PROS:
* High quality all around that should stand up to many years of use.
* Sturdy extendable handle
* Widely positioned, quality wheels
* Lots of space, configurable compartments
* It looks like a soft bag, but offers a lot of protection, The sides are over an inch thick, sturdy inside, with nicely padded surfaces.
* Two external straps for attaching a tripod (there's also a hidden pouch in the front that when unzipped and pulled out makes a great base for holding the tripod upright and secure.)
* Comfortable, padded handles on three sides, providing many convenient ways to carry the bag.
* Nicely padded lap-top pouch
* Come with a combination lock and an accessory pouch
* Pockets for memory cards or accessories
* Claims to be waterproof (but I'd consider it water resistant)
* Great for air travel
CONS:
* As nice as the bag is, it's hard to justify the price tag for a typical hobbyist.
* I would have liked a few more pockets, either on the outside, or more compartmentalization in the front storage pouch. Other than the memory card pockets, there's really only one other miscellaneous pouch, so extra accessories like cables, chargers, filters, tend to just get thrown in together. A little more organization for those items would have been nice, and could have been accommodated.
Great bag. I'm sure it will become my new all-purpose travel bag, likely replacing my bulky hard-shell case for good. If you feel spending a little extravagantly on a bag to protect your expensive photo gear is a good investment, I would definitely recommend this bag... it's almost as strong as a hard shell, waaay stronger than a typical hobbyist bag, and a lot more stylish and easy to transport.

The bag is very well made, with lots of sections. The sections are held by strong Velcro joints, so you can change the size and number of the sections as you need. All sections' inner "walls" are located inside a thick padded perimeter frame that fits inside the bag snugly. You can pull it out completely with all the inner sections and use the bag's shell.The front flip is also padded well and has an inside pocket for a laptop; my 15" HP EliteBook fits just fine! When you unzip the front flip, it will not fall to the floor, as it would in most bags: two inner straps hold it on both sides, so nothing will fall out unless you unfasten the strap locks.

this bag is just simply great. I got mine gently used but its absolutely perfect. I have an almost 2 year old and a LO on the way and this bag will be my diaper bag for both. There are several pockets on the inside to organize babys stuff and one pocket on the outside to keep your phone or something handy. I love this clutch! It's just big enough to hold the essentials for a night out. That's a very nice backpack for the ones who ride bikes. I bought the mid-size, and there's room for a lot of things, like one week of groceries. And it's very confortable when riding, the weight is very divided along the back.The material is waterproof, so it's ok to ride in the rain.
The only downside is the belly strap that is very thin, and don't help much.
Definitely recommend.

Travelon Backpack
This was the perfect size to use as a carry on while flying and as a back pack while touring. It isn't too big, but it holds my big Nikon camera plus a larger lens, a water bottle and a few other small items. The lock and other security features set my mind at ease while using the metro and trains in Italy.
I used the pack every day to hold a thick file of paperwork, plus some extras like a jacket, a few diapers, wipes, tissues & a water bottle.

I purchased this bag so that my 10 month old would have his own traveling bag for our trip to Wisconsin Dells. While the bag is "extremely" small we were able to fit 3 days worth of clothes in it, plus 2 bottles, 6 bibs, and a jacket. :-) Diapers, wipes, food, etc. had to be placed in other family members' bags. Needless to say, the Elmo bag is really cute and age appropriate for my baby boy, but not as spacious as it appears.
Dakine Burnside Pack
I use this bag everyday now when biking or skating to campus. The laptop sleeve is perfect for protecting a computer or throwing a few books in, and the side zipper makes it really easy to put things in or out fast. The side pockets are a good size for a drink, which is nice so you don't have to do digging through all the other things in the main compartment. I've only had it a few weeks, but my last Dakine bag lasted 4 years and is still going strong.This is a great bag with all the features anyone really needs and no extra useless stuff to take up space and weight.
i wish they had some sort of zipper instead of drawsrings for openning the main container.
The water bottle holder goes into the backpack isntead of out so if its packed super tight, water bottles might be hard to fit.

It's got some cool features and it's pretty big (which can be a pro or a con). There's a side zipper for direct access to the laptop compartment if you don't want to unclip and loosen the string, it's cool and convenient but if you live in a neighborhood like mine and people see you use that zipper, you might get your laptop stolen without you even knowing (hasn't happened to me but there's crazier things that have happened in the world, so don't doubt that it can't). There are side pouches for drinks and whatever else you want to fit, it's a nice addition but it's built into the backpack itself and can take up space for your other stuff, so it's kind of counter-intuitive. The zipper on the top has plenty of space and will most likely be used for things like pencils and pens. The skate straps are velcro, so they make a lot of noise but if you don't skate, then they're not a problem. The interior has plenty of space for anything you need to pack and it's made of high quality material and blah blah blah. Overall, it's good bordering on great but not amazing. It looks cool though, unless you're a skinny twig like me, it might be bigger than you and that's not a pretty sight.Want Dakine Burnside Pack Discount?
My son loves this back pack. Very durable and utilitarian. He uses it for school and carries what seems like a 100 pounds of books and there is no sign of wear. It is also great for housing all of his gear and tool kits he bring along when he skates. I would recommend this for sure.

Dakine 31-Litre Network Pack
This backpack is much bigger than it appears and it has a pocket for everything! I use it to take my laptop to work daily as well as carry documents and other things for travel. There are some great pouches inside for storing your power cables and wireless mouse. Also I dont need my neoprene laptop sleeve anymore since the padded laptop compartment is very protective and soft. My 15.6" Acer fits in there like a glove! Recently I went trough security and it was really easy to pull out my laptop for the x-ray machine and access my passport in the outer pocket. It was very comfortable carrying a heavy load around the airport while waiting for my flight to board as well. This is due to the nice padding on the straps and back of the backpack. On style, I think the carbon fabric looks great. It has a nice contemporary look that is not so skater like the other patterns. The material is very durable and it has ykk zippers which are the best quality. Highly recommended.

Best backpack BY FAR that I have seen. Terrific quality. Smart design with lots of useful storage options, from small zip mesh pockets inside to the semi-concealed front zip pocket outside that is perfect for travel docs and the excellent cup holds on both sides. Also I love the sunglass pocket on top. Wears well and cool, due to the design so that it's not smashed up against your entire back length (allows air to breathe a bit). Great lumbar rest and shoulder support. I used it for a 3 day trip to Istanbul and could have probably gotten a week's travel out of it, despite the moderate bag size. I am on my second day of using this pack and its pretty itemized in how to place things. For mountain biking i did find when its on my back the top of the bag rubbed the back of my neck but it should be eliminated by adjusting straps. It is very adjustable and comfortable. While riding heat buildup on back not bad at all but still sweats. It has a nifty pocket on the waist strap to put like a camera in.

As an inexperienced day-hiker I bought this pack a couple of falls ago. It has proven perfect for my needs. It is extremely comfortable with many adjustments and compartments yet is compact. It feels like it is part of me as I walk and does not swing around. Perfect for carrying a couple of bottles of water, lunch, an extra jacket and whatever. Pelican U100 Black Elite Storage Backpack for Laptop (OU1000-0003-110)
A buddy of mine just purchased this backpack with built-in Pelican case. He rides a motorcycle and wanted to protect his nice new Apple Retina, even if he took a tumble. This Pelican ProGear is up to the task I have no doubt that the computer would be safe even if the worst happened! It is set up with laptop protection in mind first and foremost, and has a very functional backpack design that meets airline carry-on specifications. The computer compartment is separate from the rest of the backpack, making it convenient to open just the computer compartment to retrieve the laptop for airline security (no difficulties in pushing it back in afterward, as I have had to do many times while traveling on business and doing my best to not check a bag). It is ergonomical design translates to being comfortably worn, and the heavy duty straps adjust. The zippers are not cheapo and there are velcro tie downs that relieve the pressure on the zipper should the bag be over-stuffed. It also has compression straps to minimize its size and maximize its travelability. Plenty of room for a weekend or 3 day trip and room for the various power bricks, drives, etc. that you might want to bring, along with a tablet like an iPad (or a paper one) plus a few folders and/or Kindle, etc. You would carry your iPad or Kindle in a separate compartment from the laptop. The separate compartment is very well protected, but not with the iron fist of the built-in computer case (meaning that it wouldn't be protected from submersion in water or from a car running over it though the laptop would be safe!).The bag is expensive and there is a trade-off for the "bullet proof" protection in that it is on the heavy side (about 8 lbs empty), but the quality is top notch (you get what you pay for). In my opinion, there is no other backpack out there that would even come close in terms of security. There is no built-in combination lock, but the latch is very secure.
A quick comment on Pelican cases they are the BEST. I asked my Navy SEAL friend (a REAL one) if he knew anything about them and he said that they use them to transport certain of their gear around the world in the toughest environments. They hold up to abuse of the baggage handling gorillas trip after trip. After this endorsement I bought one for myself and have used it to protect sensitive equipment transported via airlines, and I couldn't be happier with my decision.
Who would need such a backpack? Anyone who puts their computer at risk. I take my laptop to and from work in a car with a lot of other equipment. My laptop is subject to being knocked around, short falls, or having other equipment tossed on top of it. This backpack would also be great for soldiers, frequent travelers, motorcycle riders, or anyone who takes their computer to inhospitable environments. This has got to be one of the most protective computer backpacks on earth.
I stumbled upon this backpack after writing on my website about a laptop sleeve I purchased to protect my MacBook Pro. This laptop sleeve would be sufficient for most people, but I wanted something offering extreme protection. I considered a standard Pelican case (briefcase style), but that would not have room for the other equipment I need to carry with me on a regular basis. Everything pointed to the Pelican U100 backpack.
The Pelican U100 backpack is a bit expensive at a retail price of $269.86. I checked Amazon and it was much cheaper around $185. This was more than I am used to paying for a computer backpack, but it would be cheaper than replacing a high-end laptop. I also feel this laptop is a good deal at the price on Amazon.
The plastic laptop compartment is padded, but the padding is thin and not the normal Pelican case padding. It is obvious this was needed to keep the dimensions of the compartment reasonably sized. Newer laptops, MacBooks, and "ultrabooks" are thin so Pelican included padded spacers. I have a MacBook Pro 13 and the two spacers for this model laptop may be sufficient, but I still may look at adding padding that is more substantial. I may take padding from another Pelican case and line the compartment with it.
In addition to the plastic laptop storage case, the backpack itself has three main storage compartments:
1. The front compartment is thin and has room for an iPad just behind the plastic protective face. There is also room for pens, notepads, or other smaller items. There is also a zippered pouch in this area.
2. The next compartment is slightly above the compartment above and takes up about 1/3 of the pack height. This compartment can expand to a decent depth, but it will take room from the third and largest compartment.
3. The last and largest compartment runs the length of the pack and can expand to hold a decent amount of gear (one or two days clothes).
*There is a somewhat hidden compartment on the back of the backpack that is accessed by moving the shoulder straps out of the way. This compartment is not meant to hold much and I could see it being used for documents that need to be kept flat. I would bet the only reason this pocket is there is for accessing the plastic laptop case in case of repair.
Though a bit expensive and somewhat heavy compared to normal computer packpacks, I highly recommend the Pelican U100 if you need (or want) serious protection for your laptop. Be sure to check your laptop dimensions to make sure there is enough room in the plastic case (15.50″ long x 10.50″ width x 1.50″ deep).

Although stuffed to the brim it becomes a bit too large to fit under the airline seat in front of you while flying due to the hard case, the tradeoff is worth it to protect your expensive work laptop and / or tablet. Gregory Wasath 12 Daypack
Purchased this pack two years ago primarily for bike commuting, running, and hikes. It held up well but after a year the bottom started tearing and quickly deteriorated into tatters. Not sure if this is typical after a year of regular use. It's unfortunate because it was a really comfortable bag and everything except the bottom fabric is exceptionally sturdy.
