Can't imagine what the fuss is about. This backpack is similar to the other Vera Bradley backpacks that I've gotten over the years. It is not like the mammoth bags she is putting out today. It is a perfect size for anyone who isn't dragging a laptop around. I filled mine with medicines, papers, pens, an extra pair of glasses, credit cards, snack (cheese crackers), cell, money purse,camera, pouch with extra battery and memory disc, pack of Kleenix. It is full, but not overstuffed. Everything closes nicely and zippers up. Love the color. I already have the enormous bag
with the same pattern, but this one is so much easier to handle. I love Vera Bradley!

This back pack is very small. The dimensions given are accurate. I read reviews for this size VB bag on the VB website and one person said they used it in college for books so I thought it must be bigger than it seems. Uh, nope. It is very slender. No way to get more than a book or 2 and definitely not college books! I bought it for my 2nd grade daughter and it's just too small. All she carries is one folder, a water bottle, a jacket and pencils. The folder fits barely and there's no room for a small, wadded up sweater or jacket. Forget the water bottle. A standard small Ozarka bottle will not fit.However... This bag is gorgeous! It is well sewn with high quality materials. Smooth zippers. Front pocket has magnetic flap. Beautiful item.
This bag would be perfect for a pre-k girl or toddler. Or maybe as a "purse backpack" or to carry a tablet/iPad. But not as a functional school backpack.
I gave it 4 stars because it's beautiful, the quality is great and, to be fair, the dimensions are listed clearly and accurately. But it should at least accommodate a standard water bottle in the water bottle pocket!
Swiss Gear SA1061 Black/Swiss Red Backpack
This is a rather nice, comfortable, and super lightweight backpack. Unlike other similar backpacks, though, this has only 2 pockets. Most other Swiss Gear backpacks tend to have 3 pockets. That probably is a factor in the lighter weight.The material is super tough and my previous Swiss Gear backpack lasted over 25 trips before it started showing signs of wear it is still entirely usable, but the fabric is beginning to fray.
Please ignore the other review complaining of no padded sleeve for a notebook. He is right, of course, but this is not a valid complaint, since the description clearly represents that there is no such sleeve in this product. There are plenty of other Wenger/Swiss Gear backpacks that do provide that feature. Just not this one.

This is a wonderful backpack and I love the way it's designed. This is a backpack for those who need to carry light weight stuff, may be a good one for official use if you don't carry a laptop.Pros:
1. Good Looking. I love the name written in Horizontal style.
2. Enough pockets for carry couple of separate items.
3. Can place your iPod/music player inside the bag pocket provided and can have the headphone cord come out of the small passage provided for this purpose.
4. Looks strong in material and stitching.
5. Comfortable while carrying it.
6. Quality.
I got this bag for official purpose. There are other bags with cushions for different purpose. Though I guess 14" laptop can be easily fit inside the bag if you want to. The same backpack in store would cost you approx 40 to 50 bucks.

The moment I saw the Roosevelt Saddlebag I knew I had to have it. If you feel that way about this bag, buy it. But before you do, let me tell you a few things:1. This bag, when bought in the X-Large (as I did) is quite big. I am fairly average in build (Male, 6' 1", 180 lbs.) and I find this bag to be big. I bought it big so I could travel with this bag. If you travel light you can get away with carrying nothing but this bag. Your computer, tablet, dopp kit, spare outfit (counting shoes, most likely) and a couple Bible-sized books will fit in this bag with little difficulty.
2. The leather is peerless. I bought some leather milk to keep it fresh, and I get nothing but compliments on this bag.
3. The lack of breakable parts (zippers, snaps, etc...) was a big selling point for me. I wanted to buy a bag that I could give my great granddaughter/son (I'm 28). If I I take care of this bag, it will last until then.
4. I teach, and I can easily haul around 80 freshman essays in this bag.
5. The bag weighs eight pounds empty. Be warned.
Here's the one bad thing about this bag. It is so attractive, it secreams "I am worth something and I am probably full of things that are worth something". It's for this reason that I get a bit nervous leaving it at a table in a coffee shop while I use the bathroom, or when I'm in a bar and need a fresh drink. It's a very hard bag to leave alone because it already means a lot to me.
I cannot recommend this bag enough. And before you even get it out of the box, Leyden and Sons packs this bag with a care and attention that you find very rare anymore, much less on the Internet.

This bag is amazing. I can't believe they can make a bag of this quality for as cheaply as they have.I bought a Fossil messenger bag last year for work for $140. It was a nice looking bag, but now, a year later, the leather finish is rubbing off, both strap attachments are breaking or have broken, and the bag has lost its shape.
The Leyden & Sons bag was $350, and I will never use another bag again for the rest of my professional career. You can tell by its weight and quality that nothing will fail on this bag. I deducted one star because the mesh net on the side isn't big enough to hold a bottle of water or cellphone.Otherwise, nice bag. The strap is very adjustable. Dakine 29-Litre 101 Pack
Dakine makes good stuff. They have a lifetime warranty, too, so they stand behind their product. I got this for school and every day life, mainly due to the laptop compartment AND tablet pocket. It looks pretty slick, too. Only thing i don't like is the organizer panel. They used to be a lot better. It's a good-sized area, but they mash everything together, and the pen slots are short. I like something substantial, as weird as that might sound. It also makes it bulky with the way they layered the pen slots in front of the second fleece-lined pocket. There's enough room where they can space things out, so I wish they would. They also don't fleece-line the side zipper pocket. That used to be a nice electronics pocket, but not really anymore. Otherwise, it's a good bag: sturdy, spacious, stylish. Not too shabby.

After four years with my Jansport backpack, I was hesitant to part ways with my old pal, but he had too many rips to repair and it felt like the right time to move on. Enter: Dakine 101.When I first received this bag, it looked pretty big, especially compared to my last pack. I started to stuff it with all sorts of things and when I put it on my back, it actually looks normal-sized.
The bag has many pockets:
-a small one in the front for trash/gum/small items

Bag is used as my everyday bag, it has a lot of pockets and does a great job holding all my stuff. It does feel a little on the cheap side as far as material and stiching. I have a small tear by one of the zippers, but this bag can take a beating. Overall I am pleased.

Great bag. It's attractive, not floppy, stuff doesn't fall out while the leather is soft and lightweight . Stitching is strong, I only wish that the bottom of the bag had metal studs or something to protect the bag when I put it down. My cobbler has done a few good bags for me and this one is worth it too.
Samsonite Wheeled Backpack
The material is sturdy and the color was truly how it looked on Amazon; however, Samsonite needs to take a couple of lesson from Jansport on how to build an adequate wheeled backpack, especially for students who intend to use it everyday. My 2 complaints are as follows: one, the traction on the wheels needs improvement.The backpack makes alot of noise when rolled and it is not a smooth glide as I had with my trusty Jansport and two, there should be one large compartment instead of one medium and one small. I wish that Jansport still made there wheeled backpacks like they use too...oh well....
Amazon recommended that I start by calling Samsonite's customer service. I did, and of course they helpfully suggested that I call Amazon. But I stayed on and explained my situation, and they located the mistake in their own records and apologized for sending the wrong thing.
Unfortunately, this first call resulted in being promised a replacement that never got shipped, and being promised a confirmation e-mail of the return that never got sent. And after a week of waiting, I got an e-mail that was worded as if the first call to Samsonite had never happened, telling me that this is Amazon's problem to take care of.
I e-mailed them back with a detailed explanation of all the (mis)communication that had taken place so far and they apologized for putting me through the run-around, sent the correct one, and most importantly, promised to streamline their communication with Amazon.
Overall everyone was very friendly on the phone, I am happy with my product now. No more hassle to go through now.

About the bag itself:
I use the bag to carry a heavy laptop and school materials to and around campus and it's definitely up to the task.
It seems durable and well made; nothing's out of whack so far even though I've used it a lot. I got to try two of them, and there weren't any obvious manufacturing differences so quality control seems to be ok.
The backpack is indeed a little noisy over cobblestone and sidewalk cracks, but completely silent at all other times.
The handle only has one length setting and I'm not so sure about that. I was surprised it's not longer; I'm very short and it seems just the right height for me.
When you're picking up the backpack for a curb or stairway, you have to bend down and pick it up by the strap; you cannot safely pick it up by the metal handle. I can tell it's not strong enough for that. The handle's clearly designed to only take force in one direction; putting any diagonal force on it tends to tweak it out of where it's attached. Secondly, it's designed for an amount of force equal to pulling the backpack while it's on the ground, not pulling the whole weight of the full backpack into the air. If you're buying this for a kid, of course they're going to yank it by handle anyway, so it won't last as long.
I found the straps to be adequate even though they're not as padded as you'd get out of a regular backpack.
For going up several flights of stairs you may want to switch to the straps, but this is hindered a bit by how the zippers for uncovering the straps get caught. Since I was able to try out two of these backpacks, I can say that both of them had this problem with that zipper. I learned that the problem is not the zipper itself; it's actually getting caught in a triangular flap where the straps mount. This is sort of a design flaw. To get around it, you have to pull the zipper an inch up and then down again until it gets past that point and lets the straps come fully out.

About the "rolling backpack experience" in general:
I was actually slightly underwhelmed with the savings in physical effort required by a rolling backpack vs. a normal one. It's not effortless; you do have to hold your arm and shoulder in an unnatural position and apply a bit of constant force (on anything but a downhill), which could lead to the same type of shoulder strain / repetitive stress soreness of regular backpacks, which I was trying to get away from. Just less of it, maybe.
Also, whenever you get to any sort of curb or stairway (which turn out to be much more common than you would notice with a regular backpack), you usually have to bend down to pick the full weight of the backpack up (if you try to skip this step in a hurry, you risk the wheels skipping off the ground, spinning the backpack around until you fix it). Bending down and picking it up by your arm strains the back moreso than if you just carried a regular backpack up the same stairs, where the weight would be properly placed over your center of gravity.
The real benefit of the rolling packpacks, then, comes not from reduced strain but from the added amount of stuff you can carry around. Although it's still a strain rolling one of these around all day, you don't really feel much difference if it's full of heavy stuff or nearly empty; that weight is pressing down on the ground, not you! Practically speaking, this means that I can comfortably carry around my laptop, textbooks, notebook, water bottle, and a jacket all the way to and across campus, whereas with a normal backpack I could only comfortably carry the notebook without getting sore shoulders afterwards.
In conclusion, the benefit of this backpack comes not necessarily from savings in effort, but from the increased utility of being able to carry around however much you want. If you find yourself having to forego bringing certain things with you because you have a back back and are worried about having to lug it around, then this backpack is for you.
I should mention that you might stand out more with a rolling backpack at school if you're the only one with one. If you don't want that sort of attention, think about that too. Also, there are things such as "tripping people" that you suddenly have to think about, when you wouldn't with a normal backpack.

The quality of the wheeled backpack is good. However, the design has some deficiencies that make it harder to use then necessary. 1. The main pouch where the PC goes is slanted down so far that it is hard to get PCs out of the back pack at the airport unless the bag is nearly empty. 2. The cloth handle at the top of the bag (for hand carry) is too far forward making it difficult to use the handle to connect it to luggage so you can pull it behind the luggage (the weight isn't distributed well enough that the bag will flip/roll frequently). 3. One of the front pockets only has one zipper. This makes it take longer to zip close as you have to zip it close clear to the bottom of the bag. This would be a great product if a very gentle adult were to use this. My 11 year old seemed to be able to destroy it within 2 weeks. One of the plastic bound areas by a wheel popped out the two rivits and the zipper couldn't hold up to the crazy number of books that students (even in Elem. school) must tote around to classes. He is on his second one, that I had to purchase because the repair policy puts the nearest repair center at over 25 miles away AND the return policy is non-existent. I emailed to ask what I could do and only received a form letter response telling me to go the web site (which is where I found the prior information). I DID get a message on my phone about 5 days after REVIEWING their product on Amazon. I chose not to answer or call back. I am a 'too little, too late' type of person. If the seccond Samsonite Med. Wheeled Backpack holds up, that's great. It has so far (about one month) but I am not impressed with the customer services that they offer. Personally, I would've given only 1 star if the 2nd backpack hadn't held up so long. Maybe it is just bad luck on my behalf or even my 11 year old but the customer service was horrible, regardless of how the damage occurred. I really just wanted a repair place near my home to have it fixed myself. I am NOT driving 25 miles just to have someone tell me that my son damaged it. Utterly disappointing design. Bought it primarily for overnight business trips. Two main problems:1. If I open the main compartment completely, everything the front flap falls open and everything ends up on the floor.
2. Laptop is so deep in the main compartment that it is so difficult to get it out at airport scanners especially when the bag is fully packed.
So disappointed and frustrated that I am rather using my old laptop bag which is falling apart. Wish I could give it back to Amazon even if you don't want to refund me. Unfortunately I live in South Africa and it's not that easy to return something to you.
Don't buy this bag if you want to travel with it!!!

This lightweight bag has a lot of features to love. It has 3 pockets in front, some inside organizer pouches in the main compartment and a hidden zipper pocket in the back. The shoulder straps are padded (yeah !) and adjustable. There is a water bottle pocket on the side that closes with a clever magnet so it is not flapping around when empty. It is waterproof (or very water resistant). The bag is padded so it keeps its shape when stood on the floor and it has a clear plastic panel on the bottom so the bag doesn't get dirty or wet. Lots of places to keep ID, transit cards etc and enough room inside for someone who is a bit of a hoarder. Can fit a kindle or ipad, and the padding would give it some protection.Personally, I could do without the padding so as to have more room, but it isn't obtrusive. It does tend to make the bad more comfortable to wear if you are only in a t-shirt. Just note that the front-most pockets (flap closure and the zip one next to it) will not fit most smart phones but do fit my luddite, old fashioned cell phone.
It doesn't look CEO dressy, but it isn't like a trek backpack or daypack you could probably use it in most work environments. Also great to take the kids to the park or for a mass transit commute or shopping.

SwissGear Laptop Backpack - Blue/ Silver
Basic run-down... This backpack is well-constructed, very sturdy, and comfortable to use. I like cool colors, so I find the color scheme attractive and sufficiently low-key. The straps are wide near the top and impressively padded. Even when loaded to capacity (which is deceptively large-this backpack is huge!), it exerts minimal pressure on my shoulders. The back is also heavily padded and purportedly better ventilated, but it doesn't mean you won't sweat like crazy on a hot, humid day. (: Despite the daily abuse I inflict upon it, the backpack shows very little wear.And... Swiss Gear does NOT advertise this as waterproof or -resistant, and even goes as far to say "spot-cleaning only." But between you and me... (: I've gotten caught in the rain--and I'm talking 100% drenched to the skin-several times. The backpack is indeed quite water-resistant. The top edges of my notebooks in the main zipper got a bit damp, as did the objects in the frontmost pocket, but everything else (including my computer) stayed relatively safe and dry.
As a college student, I carry my new lightweight laptop everywhere I go-it's my baby. (: So I wanted to keep it safe from spiral-bound books and other scary scratchy things. This backpack has a laptop pouch in the main compartment plenty big enough for my 13" computer. There's a velcro strap for added security. I never use it, however, as my computer stays put and is still in perfect condition. I also love the included key fob. I added it to my keychain, and now I always know where my keys are-no digging through a stuffed bag. (: The actual clip mechanism also shows no sign of wear-my bike lock's key is nearly destroyed, but the backpack clip looks perfect. (Another testament to Swiss Gear's quality. They don't cut corners anywhere!)
I also carry a menagerie of pens, pencils, and highlighters in the organizer pocket. My only complaint here is that writing utensils don't like to stay in their holders unless they're clipped in. As a result, my pens and pencils tend to collect in the largest pocket, and I have to dig around for the one I need. It helps to put two pens in the same holder, but again, they eventually migrate to the big pocket. (: Another thing I like is the "hidden" zipper compartment on the front of the backpack. In theory, it's a great place to put things like your wallet, checkbook, etc. to hide them from pickpockets, but if your entire backpack is stolen, it's safe to assume you won't see these things again. (: So this is a pretty neutral feature, I suppose.
This backpack has two drawstring-style drink holders. I usually carry a large, top-heavy container. I'm paranoid and frequently check to make sure I've still got it, but I have yet to see it fall out. As an extra precaution, I'd pull the drawstring tight. (:
And now... The bad. I can only think of a quote from A Very Potter Musical:
"You know who I think is the ugliest girl in school? That Hermione Granger. You know what I'd give her on a scale of 1 to 10-where 1 would be the ugliest and 10 is pretty? I would give her... an 8. ...8.5... NOT over a 9.8. Because there is always room for improvement."
1) The backpack is really front-heavy when sitting on the ground. If I don't prop it up against something, it will invariably fall over and usually toss my bottle from the drinkholder for good measure.
2) If I have a cold drink in the drinkholder, it will soak the bottom corner of the backpack with condensation. The drinkholders could be better insulated, if only to prevent this.
3) The pen/pencil holders could be longer or more elastic, so that they have more of a grip.
And that's about it! I was a little leery of the price tag when I bought this backpack, but I definitely don't regret it. This is a incredibly high-quality product worth every penny. I don't think you'll be sorry. (:

Quite a bit heavier than I thought it should be. The added weight is somewhere within the frame/back-pad...perhaps there's a 1/2" thick rifle plate hiding in there?I have smaller IFAK's and Trauma kits, but this thing is awsome. I saw this on You Tube and after the tornado in Oklahoma and else where it hit me how there could be a time in my area that this same thing could happen. I spent 30 years in medicine and there is no more helpless feeling than be at a scene like that seeing all of the injured and have little to nothing to treat these people. It is an awesome bag and with the right supplies it can be a life saver.

I recently received this UA Bookbag after my old bookbag finally tore along the zipper after 7 years. Coming from someone who has used a cheap bookbag with nothing but cardboard inside the straps, this is a dream to carry around: the straps have lots of ventilation and everything that touches you is padded for comfort.It has plenty of space for everything, and it even has a shoe compartment which I find really convenient, as it keeps dirt away from my valuables and is easy to clean out. It has two large pockets (one larger than the other) for general use, and another, thinner pocket that is used for laptop storage. This particular pocket is padded and seems water resistant (a serious plus, as I've had several electronics short circuit due to inclement weather with my previous bag). It has one smaller pocket in the very front for small items, as well as mesh pockets on both sides.
My only gripe with this bookbag is that there's very little organization within pockets. For example, as a student, I carry around a myriad of school related things including pencils, pens, calculators, rulers, notecards, and other miscellaneous small objects. While the bag has plenty of storage space, there aren't many pockets within pockets. There are actually 3 pockets in the second main zipper compartment of the bag, however they do not lend themselves to being used as easily I would like i.e., they're sized a little strangely.
Otherwise this is a fantastic bookbag. It has a simple yet elegant design which sets it apart but doesn't get too flashy. Great for general use.
