Marmot Urban Messenger Pack
Decided to try this bag out as a replacement for a Mountain Smith that served me well for 10 years. Bag is bigger with a lot of pockets and storage compartment. Looks good and is stylish to boot. Downsides...Strap is hardly adjustable for a person who like things to ride a bit lower, or who is a bit taller. Biggest downside, the clips that secure the front strap are cheap as shit, broke on day 2 riding around in the trunk of my car. If anyone from Marmot, or a hired bot reads these things, put larger clips on the front face and maybe some swivel attachments for the shoulder strap. I'm a huge Marmot fan, but the straps on this bag will get broken.

I used this daypack on daily excursions, as well as overnight trips in Vietnam, Cambodia & Thailand. I like the wide shoulder straps as well as the side straps that let you adjust the size, if needed. The side pockets hold 2 500 ml water bottles and the compartments were very useful to keep things organized.

I've been looking for a small daypack that didn't look like it was made for a 10-yr-old for a while. I have a tendency to over-pack, hence the desire for something on the smaller side. This daypack fits the bill. It has plenty of space for snacks/lunch, a hat, rain jacket, collapsible trekking poles, and other miscellaneous items, such as a small first aid kit, cell phone (just in case the bears need to contact someone...), camera, wallet, insect repellant, etc. I shoved a 24-oz water bottle in one of the water bottle pockets with no problem. I don't feel a need to use the sternum or waist straps and will probably remove them at some point. I bought the blue/smoke version, and am very pleased with the color. The material is tough. I haven't used it in the rain yet, but it seems like the material will be relatively water-repellant (although I wouldn't trust it to be completely water proof). Bought this backpack primarily because I wanted the outside stretchy bands for carrying stuff that I wanted easily accessible, like a vest. The backpack is good sized and carries all that is needed in a day's adventure. I am a woman who is not athletic and I take public transportation to work everyday with my laptop, lunch, and books in tow. This backpack definitely does the job.Pros:
-Very lightweight, so the bag itself doesn't add much to your load
-Streamlined size best for crowded spaces and limits me from carrying a bulky load
-Decent design and padded straps make a good carrying experience
-Laptop sleeve easily fits my 14" laptop
-Side mesh pocket, top mini pocket, and two front zip pockets give good organization space
-Attractive color that is neutral but not as plain as black
Cons:
-There is light padding in the back, but none on bottom, so I have to be very careful not to plop down the bag and damage my laptop. This does NOT provide complete laptop protection
-Middle pocket has inner pockets for accessories and pens, but these are made of somewhat flimsy material and my things get mixed up easily
-Does not expand, so I do not recommend this for students or others who have to carry a lot of folders/books. At MOST I can fit my laptop, one textbook, one notebook, and my lunch. This bag is not built to carry that much and a bulky load will feel very heavy.

I bought this backpack for my 14 year old son who walks a mile to and from school daily. However, due to the amount of textbooks that he drags around, I thought this one would suit him well based on the reviews. He was having back problems from carrying the backpack on his shoulders everyday.Unfortunately, this backpack didn't hold up as well as I thought it would. The screws of the handle fell off so the top of the handle came off. I had to find some replacement screws which was not an easy task. About 3 weeks later, the entire handle just snapped off which defeated the purpose of my spending the amount of money that I did.
I am quite disappointed as he only used this backpack for about 4 months so in a sense, it wasn't worth the amount of money spent.
At first I was a bit concerned because one of the zipper pulls was broken. Amazon quickly sent me a replacement backpack though, and I attribute the flaw to random bad luck, because all of the other zipper pulls seem quite resilient.
This backpack rolls smoothly through the airport. The wheels are well balanced and smooth, and the backpack is sturdy enough to accommodate a heavy load while rolling (without scraping the ground). It has space for everything you need including a nice space for a laptop which can be easily removed and replaced while going through security. It held up like a rock in the airport!
The second test of this backpack is how it performed as a daypack while touring around Central Asia. Bottom line it was perfect. While it is slightly more awkward and a bit heavier than some daypacks due to the wheels and its sturdy construct with an extendable handle for rolling, it proved easy to lug around on my back with all the items I would need throughout a day of touring on foot. It breathed nicely between my back and the pack itself. It was easy to put on and take off. And the great thing is that if I ever wanted to stop carrying the load on my back, I could hold it by the handle, or simply roll it along.

I recently purchased this product because I had approximately 40 pounds of books and such to lug around. There is plenty of space it rolls easily and stands upright without feeling like it wants to tip over. I definately helps instead of messing up your shoulders trudging a ton of stuff around. The front pockets are a little tight but very manageable. It has everything i want or thought I did BUT. I have been using this product for about 2 months. Maybe this is nit picking but the wheels which seem sturdy, are made of hard plastic and they are LOUD on the pavement. It just gets louder and louder to you everyday. This was just what I expected! Saw this in the stores for double the price I got it for here. Arrived as promised and obviously brand new. My daughter absolutely loves it. Makes going to school a little more bearable. The shoulder straps can be stored in the back pocket area thanks to the release clips. The telescopic handle is just perfect. It has enough room for a LOT of books and a padded laptop pocket. The front pocket has a lot of compartments for calculators, pens, etc. I definitely recommend!

I bought this backpack 5 months ago as a replacement for a Mobile Edge Premium Laptop Backpack that I have had for almost 8 years. I bought the original in 2004 for what was then my new Dell Laptop. The original has held up fabulously through all kinds of experiences. It has been on countless flights around the country, through camping trips, three motorcycle accidents, and I use it every single day back and forth to work. In March of this year, I was in a 50 MPH head on motorcycle accident; I rolled over the backpack with my 230 lbs, and the only damage was a broken plastic buckle everything inside was in perfect condition.The new backpack doesn't fare nearly as well. In 5 months, without any extreme circumstances (no motorcycle accidents, camping, etc.), the fabric inside the backpack has torn in two spots, the waist buckle has broken, and the light duty mesh on the outside front pockets has ripped. This is just from day to day use back and forth to work. The 1680 denier nylon outer skin has done well, which is to be expected. Everything else seems to be of inferior quality.
If the whole backpack were made of the same quality materials as the outer skin, it would be a great bag; it has many great features, it's comfortable, and it is roomy. As it stands, however, I will be looking elsewhere for my laptop backpacks from now on.
I recently bought a replacement plastic buckle for my original bag and have been using it instead of this new one. When it does eventually give up the ghost, I'll most likely look at a Sandpiper or Blackhawk bag that is built sturdier throughout.

my previous bag was a swiss that lasted maybe 4 years. this one seems better made, stiffer. you don't have to fasten the rain cover buts its nice to have. this thing would fit a 19" laptop if you had to, 17" has room leftover. the 2nd compartment though isn't very deep front to back. its more like the laptop compartment, tall wide but not too deep. I wish it was a bit deeper. the bottom back pocket works great for stuff like USB cables, drives and other bits, but I wish it was taller to hold some larger cables.very well made, should last a long time. had this 4-5 months and it still looks like new despite daily use including bike commuting I do while its nice outside... and even when its not quite nice :)

I love the brand of Timbuk2 so just ordered a few of these to go with my bag(s). Unfortunately, though the design finish looks great, but it's quite difficult to use as a desired "functional" bottle opener. Exactly as ordered, lightweight bottle opener.Build quality on this is excellent. Even after opening quite a few bottles, I haven't noticed any damage to it whatsoever. It weighs next to nothing and at times I have forgotten I have the thing. It is small enough that I push it up so it lies between the shoulder pad and the strap on my bag, useful when I'm moving around and don't want it dangling around.
For the price, I don't see why anyone would refuse getting one.

The Amazon ad didn't mention that this is a "trim" fit. At 5'10", this was too short for me. Otherwise it may have been ok, but I also didn't like the overly padded, bulky, unwieldy shoulder and hip straps. Had to send this back, obviously. After trying this as a cheaper alternative, I went ahead and spent a little more on a Mountainsmith pack which I love.

I'm writing this after just a couple days of use. I'll update my review in a couple months so that it is consistent with what I've actually been experiencing.I'm coming from an absolutely enormous Jansport Backpack that I purchased ages ago. I need something that will carry tons of stuff all the time. This fits the bill for the most part. It's a 30 liter pack and it makes good use of the room that it has. The laptop slot is just big enough for my massive 17.3" laptop, by that I mean I really wouldn't put anything bigger in there. So if you have one of those 18" gaming laptops, I would recommend looking elsewhere. This probably won't work. A complaint I do have is there isn't a great place to put my power brick but I suppose that's a minor one.
The main compartment is nice and roomy. The pen and misc pockets are also in this area which is not something I've seen before (normally it has a dedicated pocket) but it seems to function just fine.
The water bottle holders are one of the huge pluses of this pack and are one of the reasons I picked it. They will hold a 1 L nalgene problem just perfectly which is exactly what I needed. I tested a SwissGear SA1923 backpack prior to this one and was a bit annoyed that I couldn't fit my 1 L bottles if anything was in the side pockets.
I also really like the armored sunglasses shell. It has a soft coating for the sunglasses and is roomy enough to carry around 2 pair (as long as you don't wear bug eye sized glasses.
The pack itself is very light. That may be a blessing and a curse. The blessing of course being that you're carrying around less weight. The curse may or may not exist in itself. I'm hoping that it doesn't mean less durability than a heavier duty bag. We'll see when the time comes.
I'll try to post a nice pic of it fully loaded to give you an idea of how much stuff will fit.

To be honest, I'm happy with it.It's made better than I expected it to be. And for me, it needs to be made well. I travel a great deal. I use luggage frequently. And I've found that finding well made luggage isn't easy. And when you do find it, it's pricey. What one finds often when shopping for luggage is eye catching aesthetics, or frivolous cell phone pockets. Or water bottle pockets. But the quality which goes into it's construction is usually marginal, at best.
This item, I was concerned would be the same. What caught my eye about it was it's rugged plastic shell. The entire lower half is the shell. Which is very effective at keeping the contents dry, undamaged and otherwise protected. This was a real plus for me. It's roomier inside than I expected it to be too. The caster wheels seem to be of a suitably good quality. The zippers ARE of a good quality.
I like this bag. I think it will last me several years of constant use. Was it worth the price?
If I can get 3 years of good, dependable use from it before things start falling apart, then I would say yes. And I have a strong feeling I'll get that.

I purchased this backpack for my 2 yr old who just started going to preschool. My first impression was that it was bigger than I thought but once I packed all of the required supplies (clean clothes, swim gear, towel, even lunch) I realized that it was just the right size. I saw other Cars backpack in stores locally but those seemed plain and cheaply built compared to this one. The additional exterior pockets in the front and sides give you extra room to pack little things like creams, wipes and a bottle of water. So far so good, we will see how long it lasts.

The description says is is 10x8, which is ok, but two inches wide is not nearly big enough to fit anything into. It is cute, but we won't be using it for a lunch box. I purchased this backpack for an upcoming trip. I want to use this as my purse for the trip. It's cute, it's small (12" x 9") just as I wanted. It has one main compartment and two smaller ones in the front. In the main compartment, it has a CD holder (YES A CD!!!) That is the only pocket on the inside. I was hoping for at least one zipped pocket in there--but it's an empty cavity with the CD holder hanging. The mesh holder on the outside of the back-pack is SO SMALL (1.5") that really nothing will fit in there. When I saw the picture, I thought I would be able to put a water bottle there--no way. The straps are nice padded, adjustable straps (typical back-pack straps). The canvas material is very nice and seems to be constructed well. Overall, I'm happy with it, I gave it 3 stars because I think the CD holder is really out-of-date, and it would have been nice to have at least one hide-away compartment on the inside of the main compartment.

Perfect size to carry what I need when unable to walk without a walker. The small backpack didn't throw my balance off when walking with knee walker. I've had several people ask me where I got the backpack.I like the idea of this backpack for an adult that can't carry things on one shoulder. It is super cute, lots of pockets, and very sturdy. The problem I had was with the zipper overlap (not sure what it's called, but it's the fabric that falls over the zipper to hide it, and probably to keep moisture out).
