Sony VGP-AMB1 Universal Carrying Case for VAIO Notebooks
We've got Sony's 17 inch VGN-A series notebook, and no, it doesn't fit. Once the notebook is inserted into the carrying case, it is nearly impossible to zip close. My wife uses it mostly and though the case appears durable and padded, getting the notebook inserted and the case zipped closed is difficult and very tight at best, the case needs more room to fit most 17 inch notebooks. We feared that the notebook would get damaged while trying to zip the case closed (we've owned numerous notebooks and cases over the last ten years). The Sony carrying case also does not carry much extra either. We've since bought another brand (Targus 17 inch) that fits much better and carries more items/accessories, this second one was essentially the same price. Much happier now.

Derek Alexander Small Backpack Sling
I love everything about this bag. First, the softer, textured leather is great. I had a shiny, non-textured leather bag before this and it showed every mark and scuff. I try to be careful, but sometimes a doggie paw lands on it. It's quite forgiving. It's fairly compact in size but holds a lot. And I have a very big wallet that takes up the whole back compartment along with my reading glasses, in a hard case. There are enough pockets and dividers in it for me to keep things organized. The zippers are easy to manipulate, even if my hands are really full, and they definitely stay put. Overall, it is very well-designed and constructed. The best little backpack bag I have ever owned.

I want to start by saying I am a graduate business/law student. I have a laptop, I have a lot of books. I travel sometimes. I want my backpack comfortable to carry, protect my laptop WELL, and hold all my books, pens, highlighters, notepads, usb sticks, laptop charger, business cards and so on. Those are the needs that I keep in mind when I reveiw this bag.I would like to give this bag something like 4,5 stars. Being a samsonite, it is not perhaps surprising that the backpack has the general feel and qualities of a travel suitcase. Hard to explain, but you will surely understand if you see it. That being said, the quality is generally superb, specially compared to most backpacks. The protection for the laptop is mostly top notch. The only problem is that a 15,6 inch laptop will not fit perfectly but will have the zipper tightly enclosed around it, meaning that any hits to the top of bag, on the edges of the laptop will likely damage it. That is a bit dissapointing. Also, its too bad the side pockets (for bottles) do not have any zippers, so that they could double as pockets for other stuff such as the computer charger. I would also have appreciated a business card holder and a few more separation pockets in the bottom pocket, to hold and separate stuff such as a USB stick, screen cleaner etc. As it is they are all in the same mesh pocket and it is not very orderly (Im a bit of neat freek who loves organization). If it was just a little bit more of a mobile office this would be amazing. Everything else I am extremely happy with.
1/30/13 Update
I purchased 2 of these, my son in college wanted one once he saw hers and he has reported back to me that he loves it. He said that it was very sturdy and light with good venting in the back and the straps, he is a sweaty boy who walks all over campus and that is important to him. My daughter handed hers to me the other day and warned me it was heavy and I darn near dropped it because it was so heavy, filled with books. It shows no wear, did not creak at any of the seams as I held it with one strap or the other and shifted the weight in my hand to get it better balanced. I can't say how impressed I am with this backpack. Very well worth my investment. I will check back in at the end of the year and tell you if they are still holding up.

I was very impressed with this backpack. It is extremely well made and the attention to detail is excellent. The compartments are great. Even has a sleeve labeled "tablet". The straps and back support are both comfortable.my only warning to you is this a large size backpack. If sometimes you only plan to be carrying a couple of books.. you might be a little annoyed at how large of a backpack it is.

This is a great laptop bag, with plenty of room for books and clothes or whatever else you want to carry. I love the styling and the roominess of the pockets---even the top pocket, which can be too cramped for hands to reach into on some bags, is big enough to easily get things in and out . The two-way zippers are great, and one of my main requirements in a bag after having too many that only zip one way, necessitating completely opening a flap in order to get things out. I want to be able to just open the top of the pocket I'm accessing so stuff doesn't spill out everywhere, and this one fits that bill.The bag is VERY well made, and seems like it will hold up a long time. This has the feel of luggage, which I suppose it as, as opposed to just a thin school-type backpack. It's comfortable enough to wear, even with books inside. The laptop pocket with the silicone air bumpers keeps my laptop secure from jostling and dropping, and even a smaller laptop feels like it's snug and safe in that pocket (my laptop is a 14" Thinkpad).
Drawbacks that keep it from having 5 stars:
1. The felt-type liner material is a problem in the "folder pockets"---the place where you slide papers, tickets or thin folders at the back of the pocket---because it snags papers as you try to slide them. In the end I adapted a fedex mailer to slide down inside that folder pocket and then was able to slide my tickets and printed flight information easily in and out of the pocket.
2. Two side pockets for holding bottles: How many bottles does the average person take on any given outing? I would have preferred to have at least one of the pockets be zippered so that I could feel safe putting other things in it (phone, mp3 player, whatever). As it is, you dare not put anything in them other than bottles.
Overall this is the best laptop bag I've ever used (and I've several) and did not hesitate to buy a second one for my daughter.

I bought this backpack to take with me on my vacation. The straps are wide and padded well so heavy loads in the bag won't cause the straps to dig into your shoulders. The little soft pouch on top is good for quickly storing your sunglasses or cell phone, especially when going through airport security. The insulated pouch is a nice idea but doesn't really have enough volume to hold a water bottle larger than say 12oz. What I did find it useful for was keeping important items dry when the rain started pouring. The laptop pouch is padded on the bottom which is good for keeping your laptop/tablet safe from dings. The only real complaint I had was that the front pouch is just a little tight (i.e. doesn't open very far). But that was a minor issue. All in all a nice looking, versatile, and well built bag.

I have mine for 4 months now and I'm really pleased with it. it made out of good materials, you can use it with just a laptop but there is always room for other things to put in. it is isolated enough to withstand the weather. I don't have anything bad to say about this bag.

Just FYI, the baja blue is not blue. We ordered this for our son for school. It is definitely lavender. We liked the pack and the size is good for our kindergartener but we are now saving the baja blue for our daughter for when she goes to school and we're going to probably re-order the other blue. I bought this backpack to use with the crumpler insert as a camera back and it's wonderful. It's smaller size is perfect and the back and straps are padded. The mesh pockets are great for a bottle of water and the front pocket allows me to stash stuff quickly such as my phone and keys. I also love that even though it's a smaller "child's size" backpack it's a nice blue color without all the normal kids things like princesses, cars, cute animals, and that kind of stuff of on. I'm 5'2" and it works perfectly for me. I like that it has a loop on top too to grab when I'm standing in line and it's reflective tape is great when I'm out at night.

Did you know I can break into your luggage by pushing a pen or awl in between your bag's zipper teeth and spread them apart? Just Google OPEN LUGGAGE PEN and watch with astonishment. You will now carry all your valuables, electronics, cameras, traveler's checks, money, etc in your carry on from now on. Do buy this Pacsafe Travelsafe bags (Amazon carries 3 sizss and I have them all) and a sturdy 3-number combination lock (I'm afraid I lose keys). When you are seated in the airplane lock your valuables and safebag to your seat or something. I would not store valuables on my carry on luggage while it is stored overhead as it can get stolen or broken into while you are sleeping or in the lav. I use these Pacsage Travelsafe bags in my hotel rooms (I put money into the bag, lock it, and stuff it into the hotelroom safe), on boats to store my camera and money while scuba diving, and so on. I traveled for two months in Asia staying in budget guesthouses and this was a lifesaver. It was a huge relief to be able to leave my valuables in the room without worrying about them. The bag easily fit a large netbook, Nikon D90 with 18-200 lens, money belt, external hard drive, phone, and memory cards.I always found something to attach it to. Sometimes it was a heavy piece of furniture, but in the more basic rooms sometimes I had to attach it to the deadbolt frame on the bathroom door or even the towel rack.
I took one of the keys with me when I left the room in a pocket in my day pack, and left the other well-hidden inside a medication container in my first aid kit in the room in case the key in my day pack was ever lost. This might not be secure enough for some, but since I was staying in reputable guesthouses I was more concerned about an opportunistic thief who would make a quick grab rather than someone with a lot of time to comb through my stuff.
In general, keeping track of the keys was a bit of a pain, so you may want to consider replacing the keyed lock with a combo lock.
When I was traveling between locations I just placed the valuables in my day pack, rolled up the PacSafe, and put it in my main backpack. It didn't take up too much space and looked innocuous rolled up so I didn't think it was in danger of being stolen. You could also pack it flat if you had a suitcase.
By the way, it had gotten dirty on my trip so I washed it in the washing machine in cold water since I was too lazy to hand wash. Don't make that mistake! It damaged the cloth and the steel mesh is showing through in one spot now. Fortunately it's still usable.

Mountain Hardwear does it again!! The expedition duffle (medium, 5500cu) is perfect in every way! Built like a tank but unbelievable light weight! Also some really cool features like the silver/yellow inside to reduce the "black hole affect", internal compression straps, 2 side mesh zippered end pockets and on the outside: daisy chains, convertable straps that turn it into a backpack, metal pulls and handles, beefy zippers and of course it looks so damn cool! I will have this bag forever and cant wait to travel with it. Compares to the North Face base camp duffel (large, 5600cu). I dare the airlines to try to ruin this bag......it will ruin them! I am writing this review after purchasing this bag, inspecting it, and the deciding to return it, unused. I cannot attest to actual, tested durability or use. That said, here are my thoughts:What I like:
This is definitely a bomber bag. The materials and stitching are top-notch, and I have no doubt that it is very weather and wear resistant. It is certainly large, and would be a great bag for ski gear because of the extra beefy floor and boxy construction. I like how the top opens wide for easy access. The lighter colored interior makes it easier to find items than bags with a black interior.
I like the the small exterior pockets.
Why I sent it back:
It seems too heavy. Definitely burly, but I feel like it's probably overbuilt. Due to the bulky material, it will not compress well for use as a carry on if desired.
The handles on the ends have aluminum tubing over the webbing. I have no idea why they did this. Probably to help grip the webbing without it digging into hands when the bag is loaded to the gills. Unfortunately, it makes it difficult to clip a carabiner to the handle. Also, it will likely scratch paint on cars, rattle against windows, and I honestly cannot find a practical reason for this feature.
The cord used for zipper pulls also have aluminum tubing over them. The tubing is almost the diameter of the knot, which I think will make the pull hard to grip unless completely dry. I also think it looks cheesy and I don't like the way it feels eitherI do not like the tubing! Additionally, by using only cord for the zipper pulls, it prevents you from putting a lock on the zipper. I know that a zipper pull lock is still not very secure, but I believe it is better than nothing, and definitely better than cord. I much prefer cord in addition to a tab on the pulls.
The daisy chains are not as useful as those on competitors' bags. They lie very flat, and placed only near the ends, not continuously along he sides like I prefer.
The handles seem pretty good, but the padding seems inadequate to use the bag backpack style. The handle adjustment tabs seem clunky too.
All in all, it is probably a great bag for the back of a truck, or short ski vacations where you won't be lugging bags very farlike from baggage claim to a car, to a hotel. I typically carry my bags a lotand stack and strap and squish and throw them tooand I feel like there are better choices for my style of travel. Your mileage may vary.

I deducted one star because the mesh net on the side isn't big enough to hold a bottle of water or cellphone.Otherwise, nice bag. The strap is very adjustable. I'm tall and with it full extended, the bag hits my hips which is very hard to find in a sling bag. Not alot of room, this cannot replace a standard backpack. I use it for my dog and all

I love everything about this computer sleeve except one thing. It's hard to pull out of a bag because it slips out of my hands. Perhaps it couldn't be called a computer sleeve if it had handles but it sure would be easier to pull out of my carry-on when going through TSA lines.
