I bought one in Navy Blue for my 6th grader son. His older sister and friend insisted on it so he wouldn't be made fun of. Okaaay.It's done well enough. He has to haul pounds of books to and from school every day--if the bottom stitching doesn't come out by springtime, it's one tough back pack. We haven't gone that far yet, so I'll have to come back and update in a few months.
My son's main complaint to me was the lack of any other pockets beside the main one in the front. It's a very basic bag. His previous bag had another larger pocket between the main compartment and the front pocket. He liked that feature. This one doesn't have that extra storage separator.
So far, it's a good basic backpack.

Overall this is a nice pack, however, I am a larger person, and it could be a bit wider.This is designed for small items, and not anything very big.
I hold my nexus7, note2 and a few smaller items in it, and thats about all it will hold.
Having used it a few days now, I realize this will probably be best for just traveling and not everyday use. It seems to be the perfect size for me from the outward appearance. But there is a lot of bulk which creates very little room inside.
I find the biggest issue to be with the zippers opening from the bottom, upward. Every time I try to pull something out, everything else inside tends to fall out. The safety clips could have been put on the top of the bag so the zippers could be zipped from the top down.
I would feel very confident using this when traveling, going to concerts, taking day trips, etc. But it is too bulky for me to use daily. I haven't used it on a hot day. I suspect that the bulkiness of the strap will be uncomfortable.
So I will continue my search for a low profile, x-small, cross body bag that can be worn over the left or right shoulder, in all black!
Edit: After using this bag for 3 weeks, I can now say that I really don't like it. The strap never softened up. The bag is clunky and cumbersome, and I hate the zipper direction. I'm sorry I wasted so much money on this bag. I've gone back to using my old Eddie Bauer sling backpack.

This is my 5th or 6th Pacsafe product. I travel and the extra sense of security from pickpockets and thefts is nice to have. Looks well made and the size is as I expected. The entire item doesn't have the RFID shield as I expected but has an internal pocket that will still provide what I was looking for. At the same time, I purchased the Pacsafe Executive 50 wallet that also provides RFID shielding. Together, I believe I'll be fine. I especially like the double release belt clip. Normal clips are just a squeeze release, while this one has an extra release requirement that should prevent casual efforts by those unfamiliar with the product. I opted for the black color as I believe the other's stand out in a crowd too much. I prefer not to draw attention to myself if possible. The Metrosafe and Citysafe line of bags by Pacsafe offer no water resistance at all, letting water pass through the material almost as if it isn't there. If you are caught out in the rain your belongings will be drenched. NOT GOOD FOR TRAVELERS. If you prefer a bag that protects from theft as well as the elements, DO NOT PURCHASE THESE PRODUCTS. As well, I contacted the company about my experience having been drenched and all of my belongings being soaked (train tickets, electronics, et al totally ruined) and they offered absolutely nothing. Not even so much as a refund for an unsatisfactory product.

This is a nice, sturdy, smaller backpack, very simply built and without too many needless decorations and zippered pockets. I've been using it for about two weeks now and it's fine for lighter everyday loads, such as my lunch and a couple of library books or even groceries. It has adjustable straps, making it easier to sit lower or higher on one's back, depending on personal preferences. The side and front pockets are fine for smaller items, like pens, keys, smaller notebooks, cellphone, etc. but the water bottle has to go into the main part of the backpack. The main portion also has a zippered pouch, but it's quite small, so that not even my tiny wallet can fit into it.It doesn't look too sporty or flashy, which to me is the main drawback of the majority of backpacks available in retail shops these days.
All in all, I'm very happy with it and hope it will last as long as my old one did.

Eagle Creek Travel Gear Pack-It Folder 15
I have just returned from a 3 week tour of Germany, Switzerland, Italy, London, and New York City. One suitcase, with two Eagle Creek Pack-it folder 15's and one 20. The 20 was great for pants, and some nice Kuhl wool sweaters for layering. Dress shirts and crew necks went in one of the 15's and base layers went in another. Total bag weight was just 35 pounds. Socks and underwear went in a pair of Eagle Creek half cubes. It was so nice, everything stayed neat and organized, the shirts and pants did not wrinkle. As we moved about from day to day it was so easy to pack up the suitcase by stacking in the folders. When we arrived at a new place I could just pull the folders out and lay them on the extra bed or a table and it was easy to find everything I needed to get dressed the next day.This is the first time I've tried using this system, and it is so much better than just dumping everything in your suitcase you can't imagine. If you have a big trip coming up, do yourself a favor and get your suitcase organized with this gear.
Most of the reviews I've read speak of sweaters and men's dress shirts which is great but I wear more dresses than shirts so I thought I'd post my observations. The 15 is meant for 7 shirts. I didn't want to put 7 dresses in the pack since they tend to take up more room.. they are longer than shirts!
I was able to pack 2 mid-length dresses, 1 short dress, 2 blouses and 1 thick cardigan in a pack with room to spare. The stack of clothes folded in a pile (pre-compression) was 4 inches tall. Once I strapped the pack down with the Velcro straps the tallest part of the pack (middle was thinner than ends due to Velcro being down the middle) was just under 2.5 inch.
I left the pack sitting in my room for a full day and when I unpacked the top dress had small creases on the sides where it over lapped but very minor. The rest of the stack including my silk blouse were immaculate.
Its good to note that my short dress measured 35 inches long and the skirt portion had to be folded over. So if you are intending to use these for dresses like myself, i would suggest getting the 18 Pack-it just for a bit more room (and less folding over).
Not to bad for my first trial. Real test will be in a few days.

We did carry-ons to Europe on a trip to visit several cities in 14 days. We loved these envelopes, easy to pull out of the suitcase when looking for other items, keeps things folded and tidy. Tipuse the hard plastic folding guide card as a "shelf" in the center of the packed envelope, makes it easier to find something without accidentally unfolding other items. On motorcycle trips, we love the Eagle Creek compression bags, but they aren't good for non-knits because of the wrinkle factor the envelopes kept the clothes in better condition for least amount of touch-up. Tip take along a small empty spray bottle. Spritz your tops and bottoms the night before you wear them and hang up this gets out any small packing wrinkles I hate ironing!! On this trip, we used the compression bag for the dirty clothes, so they take up the least amount of space (don't put your underwire bras in these). I went on a suitcase organizing spree and bought this folder as well as other gadgets on the same order. When I received the packages I though "I over did this, there's no need for all of this!" But as I started using them all I realized that the do come in handy.The folder is my favorite since it keeps shirts neatly arranged and the wrinkles are minimal. The size will hold about 5 shirts without an issue. You could hold more but I think wrinkles will appear then.
The construction is of great quality and the handle is very convenient as is the hard plastic folding "device" which is nothing more than a plastic rectangle with some instructions printed on it, but that is all that's needed to neatly fold shirts.
This folder plus a couple of the packing cubes, a shoe sac and a compression bag for dirty laundry are my basic organizing kit. The folder is the most ingenious solution of all of them, but you do need the other ones as well. And yes, once you have them, you'll realize, as I did, that you DO need them.

I've used Eagle Creek Pack it folders in the past and they are very good. I'd suggest the next larger size. This one is a bit small holds only a few shirts. Put too many in and they'll have creases.

High Sierra Swerve Backpack
I really wanted to like this bag. I got the Charcoal/Chipotle/Black one and it's pretty nice. It has lots of pockets, which could border on too many for some users. I sometimes forget which of the pockets hold my stuff. The zippers are nice, and just big enough to grasp and pull easily.Besides all the compartments, there are lots of smaller pockets. The very first compartment can hold all your knickknacks. It has pen/pencil holders, zippered pockets, non-zippered pockets, "velcroed" pockets...you get the idea.
The second compartment has a mini pocket up top designed for an mp3 player. Above that pocket is even a port to push a headphone jack so you can listen to your tunes as you walk.
There is a tiny soft-lined pocket at the very top that I normally use to store things like my camera, phone and mp3 player i.e. things I don't want scratched. That's one of the things I like most about the bag.
The 2nd, 3rd and 4th compartments are great for books with lots of room. However the fourth compartment held a surprise laptop pocket complete with a strap and buckle. I didn't have a laptop at the time I bought this, but now that I own one, I'm really happy it's there.
The straps are nice and wide also, making it easier to carry around on your back.
The ONLY thing I do not like about this backpack is that "Vapel mesh" that they added to the back. That thing has caused trauma to my polos and t-shirts you would not believe. Every polo and T-shirt I wear with this has caused the fabric to twill BADLY. I've never had clothes damaged by a backpack like this has. And for this reason, and this reason alone, I wish I never bought this bag. No one else has mentioned this problem, so it may well be only me.

I purchased this backpack for extensive general everyday and weekend use (aka my "man purse"). I carry my gym clothes and other miscellaneous gear to and from work every day which involves daily repetitive usage of the zippers and pockets. I also use it for travelling and weekend trips, sometimes with large (heavy) loads and can be VERY tough on a backpack in general. In the past I owned a North Face (Recon) pack which at almost 6 years old was dated in design though not falling apart.This pack seems on par with the quality of the North Face pack, as far as materials go and at less than half the price. The design is PERFECT for travelling (with three *separate* large compartments, as well as lots of cool little stash spots). Perfect, nay -IDEALfor organization on a 3-day+ trip. The feel of the pack is solid, and very well made. The zippers, a crucial fail point on cheap packs, are thick-toothed and burly! The laptop pouch is great, and easy to access in line at aiport security via it's own special zipper right above the straps. It is also WELL padded, including the bottom (where it rightly has the thickest padding) The carrying handle on top is a dream padded and comfortable. I often carry my pack using that handle, so it's nice to see it becoming standard on many packs these days.
I initially wondered why the water bottle pouches (2) did not have cinch straps at the top like North Face does but in actual usage I actually prefer them like this. I tend to use the side pockets for quick-access storage, and these flush-mount pouches are superior to the loose, floppy North Face design. They are deep as well, so they hold tall bottles WAY better, as well as a bunch of random stuff when I want to quickly dump things somewhere when on the go.
The very top small storage pouch is awesome and PERFECTLY designed when I go to lunch I can dip right in for my wallet and keys without having to dig around or even move the bag at all brilliant. Perfect for "ready access" items. The front "organizer" pouch has a killer little Velcro "phone pocket" in it (this is better for storing smallish items like lip balm, coins and extra batteries rather than a phone) the rest of the organizer area is pretty "meh" like most organizers in backpacks. Things tend to just get thrown into that front pocket. I find the side (water bottle) pouches better to drop a phone into (it's easier to hear it ring too).
The shoulder straps are the best I have ever used on a daypack. The High Sierra "integrated suspension system" WORKS (I was very doubtful). This thing feels like a dream on the back. Also, a really cool feature is that the bottom straps have stopper clips on them to prevent that annoying "run through" where a strap comes out of the fastener and hangs free. How is this the first pack I have ever seen this on?? These stopper clips also have super handy "pullin' holes" where you can tighten them with one finger, another incredibly innovative design that took me by surprise.
High Sierra has hit a home run with this pack as far as I am concerned, and obviously I am very anal about my backpack performance and specs (it literally goes EVERYWHERE I go, in all conditions, with all types of loads). I appreciated the very detailed reviews of various packs when I started looking for a new one, so I hope others of like mind find this of interest!
Side note: Several reviewers expressed concern over "that extra fabric covering the two main zippers". These are rain flaps which help prevent water intrusion through the zipper. I guess only `backpack idiot savants' like me know that. Yes they can get in the way sometimes, but you'll be very glad it's there during a downpour they make a big difference.
I paid 39.00 (with free Prime shipping 2-day delivery black/black model) and boy does this seem like one hell of a deal!
UPDATE: I have discovered that the laptop pouch also doubles as an amazing beer cooler. I can easily fit 3 bottles (more possibly) in there, along with my gel icepack. It's essentially *AS GOOD* as any softsided cooler, and found it kept my drinks cold and safe all night. Sweet!!
Also, I have to re-state this, the little "stash pouch" (on top) for ready-access stuff like keys and wallet, is perhaps the best single innovation I have ever seen on a pack. NO MORE digging around in other pockets for my keys & such! At concerts, it has proven to be a godsend when I am slightly inebriated. Not to mention at work when I need to grab my keys and run, I don't even need to move my pack.
***UPDATE TEN MONTHS LATER***
The pack still looks brand new! It has been to two multi-day camping music festivals, a week in New Orleans on foot, several day hikes, 7 concerts, MANY weekend trips, MANY beach trips, and DAILY use back and forth to my office (where it is often used to courier my Amazon purchases home). If there is a known punishment that humans can inflict upon a helpless backpack, verily I have delivered it unto this High Sierra!
Is the fabric made of a futuristic, impenetrable teflon-adamantium fibre? Are the zippers forged from molten eagle talons? Was the design itself created by a 13-year-old boy with Asperger's living in the Ukraine and enhanced with gamma rays? I DON'T KNOW!!
But it is one hell of a pack!

This is the 2nd High Sierra back pack that was purchased in our home in 4 months. Upon a recommendation from his younger sister my older child, an 11th grade boy bought the exact same bag. He is not real particular about the color, the number of pockets or the style. The most important thing we looked for was durability and the large space for many books and binders.Everything works with this bag. I picked 4 other bags at retail stores, some more expensive, some less and one brand name that he didn't want to wear but he wasn't happy with any of those choices.

I was a bit apprehensive when I selected the color(charcoal blue) since it didnt give the bag a fresh,new brand look. I got my bag withing a week and when I saw it, it was not at all disappointing. Overall, I like the bag very much. Too comfortable to carry al sorts of things that u need. My only concern(and a trivial one) is that my laptop has to be pushed in it with a little force.It would have been better if the laptop compartment would be a bit larger. ECO STYLE Luxe Backpack
This is a very well-made professional looking backpack! For amazon's price, it's a STEAL! Great materials, really intuitive storage, plenty of space for files, tablet, and small laptop. I'm a full-time working mom, with two toddlers. I needed something that looked professional, while allowing plenty of hand-holding. This fit the bill perfectly (albeit probably a tad masculine-looking). Have to like to that the company is women-owned. Not surprised only a woman would get a bookbag this right! (sorry fellas).
High Sierra Stalwart Backpack
So far I have used this backpack for 3 weeks and it is holding up well to some serious abuse. I haven't weighed the daily book load but the pack is crammed full every day and there have been no signs yet of strained seams. The pack has a very large capacity and lots of pockets. I have been able to carry a huge load of books (two 1-inch 3-ring binders, a spiral notebook, 2 big textbooks about 2 inches thick apiece and various smaller soft cover books)and a laptop in the main compartment, change of clothes for exercising in the secondary compartment, and lots of necessary odds and ends in the remaining pockets. Some days I think my back is going to give out, but so far the backpack is working great.
I've been really pleased with this backpack and purchased another for my daughter to take to college.

Generally, I like the product. Be ready to air it out for a few days because it smells really bad after opening. (Chemical smell from production) It has a laptop pouch and is moderately roomy. There are plenty of little spaces to keep things organized. The straps are really comfortable, even filled with many college textbooks.The only issue I have is that the zipper on the main pouch doesn't line up perfectly, and this allows for openings to form along the zipper. It doesn't fly open, but the gaps are progressively getting bigger. Since this is such an important feature, I'm not sure I'd recommend buying it. Otherwise, it's a great buy. It may just be my bag that has this default.

I purchased this backpack because I was looking for something that could hold all my text books between classes. I thought that, since it also had a computer spot, I would also have a way to cart my hp pavilion around as well. Or so I thought...While I can't fit everything I wanted to carry into the backpack, it does have room, or at least more than the one I switched from. I can fit about 3 large textbooks comfortably in the main compartment and then there is "head room" where I could put stuff on top of the textbooks and still close the zipper with ease. (when your going for a physics major and have seven 2" thick textbooks, this means that you still have to juggle.) On the other hand, if your not taking physics or other hard sciences, you probably won't have to be carting around as heavy of textbooks. Also, the backpack feels heavy duty, and of decent quality, so despite loading it down, I am not worried about the zippers ripping out like my last backpack did. This feels like it has the potential to last for a few years of heavy abuse.
As for the computer, I have a HP Pavilion dv7 (17.3" screen) and it fits but barely. The corners of the computer sorta catch against the inside of the top of the backpack. For any other backpack, I would consider this to be a major danger to the computer, but this backpack seems to have a stiff "back" to help support the computer. I am not too worried about putting undue strain on the computer, but I usually play it safe and simply don't carry my computer unless I don't have a choice. Anything smaller (probably 16" screen or less) should not be concerned about this issue.
The two thing that I believe could be improved with this backpack: the waste strap and the back outside pouch. Both are cool ideas to be included, and the waste strap is particularly useful if you plan on running (or walking long distances) as it keep the backpack from bouncing up. The problem with the strap is when it isn't being worn. It dangles down and can get caught in things if you're not careful. The straps seem to be of good quality, and shouldn't break, but you still have to be careful. I believe they need a better storage, but are a great feature for more versatile backpacks. As for the back pouch, it seems convenient. However, if you hook anything to the carabiner loops on the back, it will pull the pouch wide open. The strap loops should be better placed or have something to secure the pouch closed.
The color pattern is not one I typically patronize, but, despite being quite an active pattern, it is serious enough that I don't mind wearing it around. It is obviously far from formal, but as long as I am not in business formal (or better), it is not too "loud" and doesn't jar my conservative tastes too badly, especially considering some of the other backpacks I've seen and cringed at.
The other thing I had in mind when purchasing this backpack, was that I am planning on taking this backpack everywhere, not just around campus. I haven't packed a day lunch and hiking supplies yet but the cinch straps seem to snug down the load to keep things from shifting when I need them too, even just around town. The organization pouch on the back also is quite convenient for holding school supplies, not elaborate, but all the essentials are there. Also, the middle pouch is narrow, but it is perfect for slipping a schedule planner or a school accordion folder to keep them separate from the textbooks.
Over all, I didn't get the backpack I was hoping for in terms of capacity (and storage for large laptop), but this is a very nice backpack and very high quality for the price asked. Despite my reservations, I would willingly make this purchase again if given the choice and highly recommend it.
Kipling Seoul Large Backpack With Laptop Protection
I got a Kipling backpack because I've seen them and they seemed really durable and great, and my old backpack that I got online was falling apart after 2 months. So I thought Kipling would be a reliable backpack to buy online, and they look really great. Then I was reading the reviews, and I got confused. Half of them say it's a great backpack and it's really durable, and the other half said it was a piece of crap that fell apart really soon. So I was kind of nervous to buy it. I got the Espresso color from Amazon.com. I noticed that there were 2 different sellers for the backpacks, one of them was LuggageXpert and the other was Amazon, so I figured probably one of them was a bad seller and the other was good. Anyway, my backpack got here yesterday and it was in new condition and packaged really well. It had all new tags from Kipling, and inside one of the pockets was a card that said it had a 1 year warranty. I think that still applies even though I got it from Amazon instead of Kipling, but either way that shows that it should last at least a year. I've only used it for one day, and so far it seems durable and like it will last a really long time. I'll write another review if it falls apart, but I don't think it will. Also, it looks really big in the picture, and I didn't really like that because I don't have too many school books and I didn't want to have a half empty backpack. But it really is a lot smaller inside than it looks. I'm not sure if this is a bad thing or a good thing, but to me it's good. It's the perfect size for me. :) It also has more pockets than you can really see in the pictures. In the main pouch there's the laptop protection, which is a pouch of cushioned material with an elastic velcro strap, and there's another cushioned pouch on the other side. Then in the medium pouch there's a smaller zippered pouch. And then there's the smallest pouch, which is actually pretty deep and can fit more than it seems, and there's the pouch on top by the handle and one on the right side, although these are pretty shallow and can't fit much. All in all, I'm really really happy with the product, and would recommend that other people get it too. :)

It fits my laptop perfectly, if it was bigger than a 15" laptop I would say it wouldn't fit! I just got this bag yesterday (in navy blue) and I love it. The Kipling bags seem to be very well made: They are made out of ultra lightweight material, but it is very, very strong. Likewise, the zippers (and zipper pulls) and the top carry-handle seem to be extremely sturdy. The pocket layout is sensible, with two front pockets and two small top pockets in addition to the main pocket with the padded laptop pouch at the back. And there are two unexpected little touches: a furry gorilla key fob (I hear they name the gorillas after employees; mine is called Kim) and sliding clips to keep the loose ends of the canvas straps from flapping around. Highly recommended.

Everest Luggage Laptop Computer Backpack
5 years ago, we bought this backpack on vacation when our previous one fell apart. Since then, it has been used as an airline carry-on, daily office commuting bag, and short trip suitcase.It's four pockets are very handy for carrying multiple items and keeping them organized. I typically kept a small first aid kit and my sunglasses in the small front pocket. In the second pocket there are pen holders, a slip perfect for my blackberry, and a slightly larger slip that I put my keys in. The front flap of the second pocket is mesh-enclosed. When using this for the office, I kept a steno pad there. When using this for short, 1-day business trips, I would stash my toiletries there. The third pocket is full sized. It was big enough for me to put multiple legal pads and a three ring binder in there without squeezing things. The back pocket has a divider in it. In the back of the last pocket I would put my laptop, and in front any additional paperwork I needed easily enough space for another three ring binder if need be.
The side water bottles zip up when you aren't using them, or for when you are using them for something other than water bottles I used one to hold earplugs and the other to hold aspirin when flying. As water bottle holders they are ok, not great. They are a little short, so water bottles can tip out if jostled, and they aren't big enough to hold a full sized nalgene, however, width wise they hold my nalgene flip cap bottle just fine.
The shoulder straps are sturdy, if only moderately padded. However, the integral design of the handle into the shoulder straps is non-optimal if you plan on carrying the bag for any longer than from class to class, or a commute, or putting it in an overhead bin.
Over 5 years, though, this little bag has done its job reasonably well. A few shortcomings, but not enough to make us consider finding a different bag.

I bought this backpack for college. I am an engineering student and need to carry many books, folders, calculators, and a laptop. I bought this after reading reviews on other sites claiming it had a large size. I suppose I should have realized that for someone else, this backpack is huge. For me, it is not big enough to carry what I need. It is by no means small, merely average in size.

This is the size I've been looking for. I was in search of a bag that would fit a 13" MacBook Pro, as well as a 13" Dell Latitude. I'm not a big person and I hate big heavy bags. My previous bag was HUGE and was designed for a 15" laptop of yesteryear. The laptop slot barely held my widescreen 13" and yet the bag was enormous. I bought the old bag from LL Bean in 1998, and it held up wonderfully--but it was made for a time when a 15" laptop was bulky and we carried lots of books and folders with us.Best uses:

Probably too small if you need your backpack to carry around a lot of personals, or carry your lunch, or an extra pair of shoes--it's definitely not a daypack.
Durability:
I will try to update this review if I find anything undesirable about the durability. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 since I cannot yet comment on durability.
The one and only downside is the lack of padding on the bottom of the pack. Leaving an unprotected edge for the laptop, which I discovered when the pack slipped out of my hand and landed with a thump, resulting in a dent on the corner of my laptop.

DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION
The Case Logic 14-inch Laptop Backpack (DLBP-114) is very attractive and is slim in design. Parts of the polyester material are matte, glossy, and quilted with accent colors on the straps and zipper. The appearance is what drew me to this backpack in the first place. All the zippers glide very smoothly and the main compartment zipper has an over-sized zipper and pull for easy opening and closing. The shoulder straps have an air mesh padding for increased comfort. Case Logic also added a neat "strap management system" in the form of a Velcro tie that keeps the excess strap tied up for a neat appearance. At the top of the backpack is a grab handle for easy handling. Aside from black, you also get red and deep grey color choices.
STORAGE & PROTECTION
The main pocket includes the integrated laptop compartment. It's padded well and has about the same amount of padding on the bottom and the back for uniform protection. It fit both my 12.1-inch Google Chrome Cr-48 and 14.1-inch Dell Inspiron laptops without a hitch. The remaining space inside the main pocket is actually rather sparse, which is part of the design. Thinking back to my college days, there would have been no way I could have fit my Biology textbook and my Calculus textbook at the same time. If you're looking for a heavy-duty, carry-all backpack, the DLBP-114 isn't it.
The large front pocket has 2 medium-sized internal pockets for a phone or mobile mouse as well as 2 pen pockets. There is also a thin, but large zippered pocket for memory cards, cables, batteries, etc. The great thing about the front pocket is that it is padded as well so you can feel safe putting your MP3 player, compact camera or phone inside this pocket.
There is also a pocket on each side of the DLBP-114. It's very useful for putting any number of items inside, but unlike the description, I found now way of putting a water bottle there. First, it doesn't unzip all the way up so a water bottle will partially hang out of the pocket. Second, the pocket is just too small. I wasn't even able to jam a standard 1/2 liter Costco bottled water inside, let alone any of my larger stainless steel water bottles.
The last pocket is on the top of the bag, located in between the large front pocket and the main pocket. It's a unique pocket not only because the zipper teeth are accented, but because it is lined with a felt-like material for protecting valuables like a watch, phone, jewelry, or glasses. It reminds me a little bit of my golf bag that has a valuables pocket so you can take off your jewelry and keep it from getting hacked up. I'd probably refrain from putting my glasses in there though since it's not padded in any way. Though the pocket entry is on the outside, the actual pocket resides inside the main compartment and I could see my glasses getting smashed inside unless I wasn't carrying anything too bulky inside the main compartment.
CONCLUSION
The Case Logic 14-inch Laptop Backpack (DLBP-114) is a very well-made laptop backpack. It won't be suitable for everyone because of the slim design and doesn't have a cavernous main compartment. Make no mistake, it is not a daypack. I see this being a good fit for the urban commuter who carries a laptop and perhaps a Kindle or iPad with accessories, some snacks and not much else. For that demographic, I think that the DLBP-114 is a great value. My hope is that Case Logic will also release a daypack version with similar design cues as the DLBP-114 as I tend to fit in the category of people who like to be able to carry as much stuff as possible.
* Review sample provided by Case Logic, Inc.I was looking for a backpack to replace a 15-year old Target/Walmart-type backpack from high school. I wanted something that I could take to/from work, was flexible enough in offering a few different types of compartments, and wasn't overly big/bulky/saggy.
This is exactly what I wanted.
We'll start with the straps. They aren't filled with gel like some packs are, so they aren't the cushiest, but they do at least have a decent amount of stuffing in them, plus they are fairly wide, and get larger as they go up towards your shoulder, so the bag doesn't feel like it's cutting into your shoulders at all. The roll-up velcro piece that holds excess strap after you're done adjusting it to your preference is quite novel, but not something you interact with every time you wear the pack, so it's not a huge deal.
The top and the lower front of the pack each have a reasonably-sized grab handle. Good for carrying into your car, or hanging on a coat hook at home.
On both the left and right lower sides are two small compartments which I've found perfect for each accomodating two electronics cables one side holds the AC power cord for my laptop and a microUSB cable for charging my phone; the other holds a 10' ethernet cable and a USB charge cable for my Zune HD. You could maybe fit a can of soda in there, or some feminine products (makeup, etc), or your car keys... but I found it great for stashing cables without overstuffing the inner compartments.
The main zippered compartment -the zipper is one of the large-teethed kind, the sort that makes a lot of noise when you operate it... but because of this, it sort of lends a feel of quality and heft to it -quite nice. Inside, against the back is a padded insert (non-removable) which accomodates your laptop. I have a Samsung Series 7 Chronos with a 15.6" screen, which is basically analogous to a Macbook Pro 15" in dimensions, due to the minimal amount of bezel around the screen. Do not expect to fit a normal 15" laptop in here without a bit of squeeze this is why they point out it can take up to a 14-inch regular laptop. There's extra space in this compartment which can hold a textbook, a tablet PC, or heck probably even another laptop. I keep a small notebook here for taking notes, etc.
Lower down the front of the pack is another zippered section which doesn't look like it hosts much space, but open it up and here's your organizational compartments --you have two wide enclosures and a few pencil holders. The enclosures are wide enough for me to fit a compact external hard drive (the 2.5" variety), and a portable mouse. At the top of the organizational insert is a zipper which contains another small pouch for your odds and ends --chewing gum, maybe another couple cables? But you can reach past all this, another 8" or so down into the bag for a deeper well of general storage space. I keep my laptop power brick down here. Adding additional items down here, instead of stuffing the organization pockets with larger bulkier items, keeps from losing the backpack's slim profile... so I'd recommend you disperse your items as such.
Up top, the red-teethed zipper leads you into a small, microfiber-type lined pouch. They say put your sunglasses in here, well I'd worry about breakage, but it is handy to keep your wallet and keys in here, since they are readily accessible without digging into the backpack proper.
The dark gray color was $10 cheaper than the black, which I would have preferred if I could have my pick... but it turns out to be an alright color. It's definitely a lighter gray than it appears in the pictures, but it's not so light that it approaches silver-gray. It's fairly unassuming... but the red-colored details are eye-catching, whether you like it or not.
It's definitely smaller than the normal-sized backpacks I used to carry throughout school, but that's just what I was looking for. Someone else commented it looks like a child's backpack...and I guess you could say that, but it also looks very concise and tidy I'm an IT contractor and have to dress up every day, and it doesn't look terribly out-of-place as part of my get-up.
I most enjoy how slim it is --it doesn't extend out far beyond your back, instead holding everything very close to you. This makes a WORLD of difference in terms of comfort. I feel no strain on my back at all, as you would with a normal pack.
Overall, highly recommend goes great with gadgets, the price is right, it's neat and tidy, and it's up to you how you'd like to use the space unlike some backpacks that pretty much make those decisions for you.

Kelty Redtail 30 Daypack
I just received the pack and was suprised to see that the zipper pulls (on the charcoal version) are red, something not shown in the picture. The zipper pulls are the cord type and each of them has a red aluminum sleeve (1 inch long) on its cord. I don't mind, but others might. They definitely stand out against the dark fabric.Otherwise, the pack seems smart and well-built but I just got it so time will tell.

I'm taking off one star for the sum of a few minor complaints:
1) The main zipper is a smallish #8 size instead of the sturdy #10 size found on my Redtail pack from 5 years ago (and on many competitors' packs in the same price range).
2) The sternum strap attaches to the shoulder straps in a way that makes me think it will eventually pop off under load. It's hard to explain, except that it's very different from the attachment design more commonly found on other packs.
3) The hydration tube port between the shoulder straps is off-center as if Kelty assumed all hydration users run their tube to their right side. Some of us prefer it on the left, away from our primary hand. They should have kept it centered like on older models.
4) The water bottle pockets on the side are cut low. Nalgene's 32oz bottle is the de facto standard and I think all packs' side pockets should be designed around that. This pocket could be higher to hold a bottle of that height more securely. With this short cut, the bottle is more prone to falling out when the pack isn't exactly vertical.

But the near-deal killer is the water bottle mesh pouches.
What was Kelty thinking??
They are too broad, too shallow and not snug enough.
Should you have to set the pack down horizontally, the bottle(s) will fall right out, so don't lose them.
I would suggest that until they fix this, you may want to look elsewhere.
I am going to attempt to modify the pouches instead of returning the pack, but no one should have to do this.

I'm embarrassed to admit it, but I bought this bag to use it as a diaper bag for my new born son. It hasn't seen the mountains, a lake, or even a neighborhood path. It has seen various supermarkets, department stores, relatives homes, doctor's offices, and even a daytrip to an airshow. However, I do hike, camp, hunt, and fish, thus I bought this bag with dual purpose in mind.In its current capacity as a diaper bag, it's functioning great. It carries easy, holds a sufficient amount of items for a day long excursion with my son, items can be organized easily within the various compartments and pockets, and it appears to be a quality bag that will last many years. I can easily wear the bag for hours on end and remain comfortable. As a bonus, I don't look like I'm walking around with a giant purse, which is exactly what my wife's diaper bag looks like. The side pockets allow me to stick a couple Nalgene water bottles in the bag as well for easy access. The bag can apparently be set up with a hydration system, I just haven't had the need for that yet, so can't offer an opinion on it, other than it looks like it would work...
The straps are very well designed for a light duty bag. I have never felt like the bag was going to slip off my shoulders, nor do I remember ever thinking they were uncomfortable. The waist strap is simply an unpadded nylon strap, and I've yet to ever use it, but if you plan to carry a lot of weight to the point you need a waist strap, you might want to consider another bag. For light duty though, this bag feels secure and carries very nicely. I'm not sure what other guys carry on day hikes, but my bag will probably never go above 20 lbs (and that would be heavy for me), and I think this bag would handle that weight without issue.
Overall, I'd highly recommend this bag, but will update this review once I've managed to actually slip out to the mountains a couple times.

Because of the one strap design, it is not comfortable enough. This pack is great, but not perfect. There are a few things I would change: 1. make the top slightly tapered; it's very boxy; 2. make the logo a bit more discrete; it's way too showy 3. make the bottle holder a bit more snug. My coffee thermos came shooting out when just bending over to pick something up off the ground.
All in all, I still really like this bag.
