Timbuk2 The Shift Pannier Messenger Bag
I commute to and from work daily, and needed a bag to store my lunch, work clothes and purse. I'd tried using a backpack, but that was not ideal in the Georgia heat. I'd also tried traditional panniers (REI brand). While those were okay, my bike frame is a bit too small--I'm very short--and the pannier would drag on the chain. I did ride with one, but felt it awkward to carry around when off the bike, and it tended to bounce a bit over the potholes.I am very pleased with this bag. The bungee on the bottom is an excellent feature--the bag does not bounce at all. It sits high enough that I can put it on either side of my rack, and I like that you can carry it like a normal bag. The waterproofing is excellent, as well. All in all, a perfect pannier.
As a messenger bag, it is quite stiff, but if you adjust it correctly it is comfortable to carry around. I've walked around with it one for hours and had no problems. You might want to get some sort of padding for the strap if you plan on carrying it extensively, but as I'm primarily carrying it from bike to work, from bike to party, its fine.

This is my first Timbuk2 bag and I'm really seeing what all the hype is about. The attention to detail is great. I especially love the main shoulder strap and its ingenious "memory locking" system that lets me take it on and off comfortably with my helmet still on. My 15-inch Dell Studio doesn't even begin to fit in the designated laptop sleeve, but it fits just fine in the normal cargo area. A thin macbook would fit in the sleeve and now I know why all the hipsters here in the bay area have Timbuk2s.
The cargo area appears just large enough for me to use this as my goto bag for 95% of my commuting duties, including laptop + books + jacket and grocery shopping. The fact that you can use the velcro system and ignore the clips increases the usable storage capacity of this bag. One gallon of milk should be easy and while I haven't tried it, two gallons of milk might be doable.
Conclusion: a work of art. As long as the build quality holds up and nothing breaks, I would highly HIGHLY recommend this if you are looking for a pannier bag and are either 1) unfamiliar with pannier bags and are overwhelmed with the choices or 2) don't want a pannier bag because it makes your bike look ugly, but your back hurts from the laptop you HAVE to carry.
*Edit: So I've had this for awhile now and I still stick by my claim that this is THE pannier bag for me. I've had to take it in to a seamstress to have 10 inches of nylon removed to fit my slim size, and now it fits even better. I've begun to notice the metal latches jamming into my back if I load it up and wear it as a messenger bag, but I don't feel it's annoying enough to really bother me. Final conclusion: this was a great purchasing decision.

I've been searching for a bag like this for ages. Tons of searching online for a fairly stylish pannier bag to take to work, AND for it to have some protection from the elements, to be well-made, not cost a fortune and also be easy to carry around when not on the bike. Well after 2 weeks of using it, the Shift bag from Timbuk2 totally meets all my expectations.Really good bag, very very comfortable to carry around when in messanger bag mode, the strap and strap adjustor are very comfortable.
The bag seems very durable and well-constructed. The inner lining should be great when it comes to rain (haven't experienced yet though), the pockets are solid.
The pannier clips are pretty solid. I kind of wish the bag could have had conventional pannier clips ("klickfix" style) just because they are a little more secure to the bike rack then these BUT the big trade-off is that these pannier hooks can easily be turned and velco strapped onto the back of the bag when not in use. Even the lower clip (to the base on the bike) can be hooked away a bit to it won't scratch you or snag clothing when not on the bike.
I deducted one point because I wish there could have been at least one small pocket on the exterior of the bag, in reality this is only worth a half-point deduction, so the bag is more of a 4.5*/5 for me.
After a year of researching the various Racktime, Knog, Ortlieb, etc etc "city" "commuter" style bags for something visually appealing, AND well-made I'm very glad with the choice of getting the Shift.

I absolutely loved the idea of a combo messenger/pannier bag, so when my previous panniers were finally giving up the ghost I picked one of these up.They've put a lot of work into making this just right: the detachable shoulder strap, the flat front pockets, the waterproof lining, the nicely-placed reflective strips.
They clearly put thought into the pannier assembly too: there are velcro straps to cover up and secure the hooks for your bike rack. Unfortunately, I find the whole hook/velcro assembly still sticks out enough to rub uncomfortably when I use this as a messenger. In fact, it's bad enough that I've noticed some wear and tear on my clothes if I carry the messenger for any length of time. If I were redesigning this bag, I'd consider adding a larger padded flap to address the problem.
It's still a great bag if I'm not doing a lot of walking at my final destination or I have a second bag stashed there for walks (e.g. at work). You won't catch me biking to the state fair or out to a hiking trail, but I'm pretty happy with it as a commuter bag.

I've used this waterproof bag in the rain and sun for about a month and a half now. It's sturdy yet flexible, and has great velcro or clip in options for securing the cover. Excellent side flaps under the cover to make sure no water gets in when it's wet (great in my green city of Seattle). My favorite part is the ability to quickly undo the velcro on the backside and hook it onto my bike rack for quick, easy transportation. I've filled it very full and it hasn't made me lose balance on my bike to only have it on one side, and I'm a beginning rider. I haven't even noticed a difference in terms of one side being heavier because of the bag.Fully recommend this product I'm thrilled!

I don't like that the bag doesn't zip when the handles are out, but I don't use the handles. I zip my laptop in the bag & put it in my electronics bag. I carry my families Ipad, Ipod, everything in the electronics bag. I just wanted an extra layer of support for my laptop. Works great for that purpose!!

OH MY GOD. That's the only way I can describe this backpack! It's the sickest backpack ever! It carries laptops, it carries books, it carries the hopes and dreams of a nation struggling through an economic crisis and war. If I were to chose a word to describe the enormous quality of this backpack, it would be Googleplex. My teenage girlfriend used to be pregnant, then she put on this backpack, and her period came. No more baby. This backpack man, this backpack.
The hardware is also very substantial. For instance, the main pocket's zipper is probably close to a half-inch thick and zips very smoothly. I get the sense there's no breaking that. Also it comes with velcro stoppers that roll up and keep in place the extra strap length, so as a biker I never have those nylon straps flapping in the wind.
Other reviews have said it was smaller than they had expected, but on its first use here's what I fit in it no problem:
A change of clothes, including a pair of shoes
A 15" Macbook Pro
A makeup bag fit in the front pocket -about the dimensions of an iPad but 4x as thick
Keys, wallet & cell phone
A full size hairspray bottle
A lean cuisine
And the bag was by no means bulking under the strain of containing these items. I think that the only thing you'd have trouble fitting in is more than maybe one or two huge books. A lot of the bag's space isn't width-wise, and my items were the kind that could be packed anywhere.

This backpack was absolutely perfect for me! The straps are comfortable, there are many little pockets to put things in, and its sooooo pretty in this color. The only negative about it is that you might not be able to fit everything in it that you want. the MOST I could fit was my laptop, a 3-ring binder (the 2inch ones), a textbook, the cords for my laptop, and a notebook. I'm a college student, & that was the perfect size for me... some students may not feel the same, though. When I got it... it looked a little small but once I started packing my laptop, charger, books, tablet & supplies everything fit with a little more room left over than I expected!It is sturdy & seems well stitched, a lot of padding on the shoulder straps for a comfortable wear.
all in all, for a bag that is not top of the line or name brand... it is one of the best I have bought and I am happy with it.
Sometimes you get what you pay for and other times you hit jackpot... this was a jackpot item, for me at least ;)

I used this bag for my recent trip to Taiwan. I fit my Pentax K30 fitted with a Sigma 28mm f1.8 lens attached, Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 lens, and my Pentax 18-135mm f3.5-5.6 lens. I also had a flash and Gary Wong's big flash diffuser stuffed in the camera compartment as well as a Blackrapid strap. I fit my Macbook Pro 15" in the laptop compartment. In the big pack I fit an iPad, the laptop charging cable, a Bible, and some other random things. The small compartment fit my wallet, passport, some pens and pencils, and a few other things. It managed to fit a lot of stuff and carry everything quite well.As for the security measures, my bag was never slashed, thankfully. The clasps to keep the zippers closed do give an added sense of security. It's pretty quick and easy to remove the zippers from them, but doing so does require pulling hard enough to be noticeable. Also the game isn't making it impossible for pickpockets to do their thing, but to make it so that they'll go to the easier guy.
As I said up top, the bag fits everything and a half. I use it for traveling to a destination or to bring my stuff to work. It is a bit bulky for a day bag if you intend to walk around a lot and need to be unencumbered.

We got this bag just before leaving for Rome. My husband brought his camera and accessories such as flash,1 long lens, extra lenses, and hood, weighing almost 7kg, which is the maximum weight for a carry-on luggage on flights. When used with waist strap, the weight is more disributed. 2 suggestions. First, the side pocket should be of a sturdier material instead of the stretchy type, so that we could put our tripod. Second, my husband had to sew one of the bottom compartment as the 2 flaps has no velcro.So overall the Pacsafe bag has put our mind at ease without worrying too much about pickpockets and prying hands.

This is a great backpack, fits my body with a lens plus a second large lens in the main compartment. There is much more room in purge compartments, too (unfortunately without dividers). It's also great for a13 inch laptop, possibly even a 15 inch one. I'd been waiting for Pacsafe to come out with a camera backpack like this for a while, and this one doesn't disappoint.

I ordered this backpack specifically for a two week trip to Europe and upon arrival it was everything I wanted. A backpack small enough as a carry-on and large enough to fit necessary electronics and miscellaneous items. By this I mean lots of pockets, and this backpack has lots and lots of pockets. There's 16 pockets total, the main zip pocket has a padded sleeve for a laptop, small mp3 pouch, slip for a tablet/netbook, and extra space for misc. items. There's two side zip pocket, a sunglasses pocket, followed by three other zip pockets. The main bottom zip pocket has another zip pocket inside as well as six other pockets and a key chain hook. I was able to carry my laptop, kindle, camera, sunglasses, chargers, power adapters, usb cables, batteries, memory cards, etc. The backpack's shoulder strap was also thickly padded which didn't hurt my shoulders after extended use.Unfortunately, there's one major flaw to the backpack and I had to find out the hard way. The extra sleeve to put your tablet/netbook (in my case my Kindle) in is Not Padded! I was carrying the backpack around in London for a week when I pulled out my kindle and found it to be broken. Apparently, sometime within the day I had put pressure to my backpack causing my kindle's screen to break, which I had no idea how it happened considering how I didn't do anything out of the ordinary. I was completely shocked and disappointed and miserable half the time without my kindle. This shouldn't have happened at all considering how the rest of the backpack was well thought out. I can't even imagine how someone would feel if their Ipad/Transformers/Kindle Fire were to break like my Kindle. This is not to say that the sleeve won't work, you just need to be very very careful and mindful of the backpack. For this alone I give the backpack 3 stars, but if you're a very careful person or won't use the tablet/netbook sleeve at all, then this backpack is great!
The inside can easily fit a thick 16" laptop (even in its carrying case) along with two other deep pockets for other valuables. On top of all that, you can place your iPod/iPhone in a pocket at the inside top of the backpack and plug it into a readily supplied wire that exits out the right shoulder pack strap. That's right; you just plug your ear buds into the shoulder strap! The other shoulder strap has a stretchable strap for your eyeglass/sunglasses. There are air vents throughout for good circulation.
The entire pack is made of black polyester and the zippers are tough plastic that won't bind or catch. This is perfect for the campus, work or travel (it will easily fit in an overhead compartment or under your seat). The pack sits upright to insure no damage to anything inside and the feel is light and comfy. Targus made a great pack this time and the price is perfect!

Pros: well-made, inexpensive, stylish, not too bulky, plenty of compartments.Cons: Padding for laptop and any additional peripherals at bottom of bag is minimal.
I supplemented the padding issue by purchasing a padded laptop sleeve from Swiss as well as a padded camera bag insert from Camaroo for the bottom of the bag.
The bag supports my Lenovo y580 15.6", Razer Nostromo, Razer mouse, Gamecom headset, and various wires and cables.

This backpack is not too large and is a great weight. It has a good amount of pockets but I am disappointed in the 2 lower outside pockets as seen in the ad photo. The ad photo shows double zippers on each of the 2 lower outer pouches. After receiving and using the backpack I noticed that there is only one edge to edge zipper for the 2 lower external pouches. That's not a deal breaker for me but I am very disappointed because I expected to be able to zip the external pockets as shown in the ad. Instead the one zipper closes all the way down at the opposite end of the bag so you need to make sure that the zipper is well closed before proceeding off with this backpack.Other than the problem I notice with the zippers in the ad vs. the zipper on the bag I am satisfied, but not overly impressed, with the bag itself or the 2 gimmick items it includes. It is much easier to carry around than the last backpack for my laptop. There are enough pockets for most anything. Inside the bag there is just one large opening instead of 2 separately enclosed large compartments like other backpacks its size but that is what also helps lighten the load. If you can settle with a backpack with one large open section with one padded separator then you should be fine with this backpack. The amount of pouches for this backpack is good but I think that the inside holder for your music player and the external plug for the headphones on the shoulder straps are more of a gimmick than practical because I can't see someone easily accessing their music player once they set it up and put the backpack on. It also appears that the sunglass holder on the backpack sling is also gimmicky because there's no way I'll put my expensive sunglasses in that holder for fear of them being knocked off while I walk or it being damaged when I remove the backpack or bump into something. I keep my shades in a case in the lower side zippered pocket instead and keep my music player clipped to my waist or in a front shirt pocket where I can reach it.
I feel this is a good backpack but nothing special or out of the ordinary and feel that the sunglass holder, music player holder and earphone jack are gimmicks to sell this pack but are not really practical to use, although there are some people who may find these gimmicks handy. I also wish it had double zippers for every opening like most other backpacks. There is only one double zipper and that's for the largest opening for the bag. As others have noted it can use much more padding or at least a solid bottom to the backpack.

1. Size: Very very small. It is NOT a suitcase but could be used for carry on luggage. The dimensions are given so I was expecting carry on size vs suitcase size but it does seem smaller than I expected.
2. Quality: Not great but not awful. Again this is a gift so I hope the recipient is happy with it. It would be destroyed if checked in as regular luggage. I would only use for carry on purposes or other non-plane travel. If it was damaged in shipping to me it seems like it's easy to dent the plastic material used.
3. Price: Way over priced....ok it's Hello Kitty but still...I wouldn't keep it for myself for this much but if the person I bought it for is happy with it than I'm ok with the cost.
4. Appearance: Adorable! It looks as cute as the picture and the color red is accurately shown (it's bright!). It's definitely super cute.
So overall I'm just not sure. Maybe I can update my review after seeing the reaction of the recipient (if I'm able to get a non-dented one in time).

15.4in Drifter Backpack for Notebook
I've had mine for over a year and like it very much. It is still available as of January, 2009. It has a smallish accessory zippered area on the front, but I have learned to live with thevariety of separate pockets to organize stuff, not all of the "stuff" I seem to think I need to just "have" along, but it is adequate.
I would add that the straps are well ergonomically designed, very well padded and are quite comfortable, something critical with a backpack loaded with any weight. It is very comfortable wearing.
One of the reasons I bought the bag was because it was not screaming "Hey, there is a laptop in here!"
As is the situation with most Tagus bags, (I also have the TCG400 CityGear Messenger) the build quality and materials of high quality. Both of mine still look new. They are easy to clean.
Yes, one can complain about the weight of Targus bags, but that is because of the durable ballistic nylon material they are constructed of. You do notice the weight, but I think it is worth the protection and overall durability it provides. After all, you've got a $800 to $2,000 laptop and enurable other expensive items contained within. I personally am not looking forward to a $160 to $300 repair bill, not to mention the inconvenience of not having my computer for a week or more.

I loved this bag for the longest time, I have used the bag since the beginning of last school year (Sept 2011). After about 6 months of almost daily use the straps began to tear and fray, now the bottom is ripping. The coloring on the top and sides has faded so much that it looks like I have had this bag for 5+ years. I would not reccommend getting this bag if you are looking to find something that will last more than 9 months-1 year. Also, this bag does not hold very much. I purchased this for a family trip to Italy. It was a terrific bag. It held my laptop perfectly, as well as other carry on essentials. I checked my luggage and used this as my carry on. My only complaint would be that the "main" area of the bag should have more compartments, it was a dark cavern! Next time I will use cosmetic bags for smaller items to find them easier.

I was pleased with this bag from the moment I received it. It was exactly as described. This last weekend it was put to the extreme test, with torrential rains and heavy seas battering the boat we were sailing on. Everything got soaked on board, except for what I had stowed safely in this bag dry as a bone! Delighted I had it.In addition, it appears to be pretty hardy bag as its already endured some rough treatment without much I'll effect. My only concern on the bag are the buckles, they seem a little brittle but the test of time will show if my concern is warranted. I suppose for the price, it's very excellent value!

Bought this bag to use when I go on trips with my motorcycle. (never know when weather will change). I bought it to use for tent or other camping type gear. I tested to see if it would hold my tent (in case it's own bag rips) and it will hold my 6 man dome tent well. I love the wide opening it has, much easier to get items in and out of. Love the snap closure on the side, the handles, and that it comes with a shoulder trap. The carry on is super easy to pack and carry around. its perfect. the color (purple) is beautiful. Don't get the big ones though because they are a pain in the ass to wheel around and the fabric is to fragile for checking in. The straps were frayed from the start!

I have been looking for and actually purchased several purses and backpacks to carry my iPad 2. I did not want a separate bag, rather something that would hold my iPad and other items women typically carry on a daily basis and not kill by back or neck in the process. Purchase prices ranged from a $20 backpack from TJMax to a $400 Marc Jacobs bag and everything in between. My goal when I bought the iPad 2 was to carry it with me. This bag allows me to do that while protecting my investment. There is an inner-inner pocket just for the iPad. This inner pocket was not evident in the pictures, so it was truly a pleasant surprise. My iPad fits perfectly, even with the Apple magnetic cover and matching back protector. I like that the iPad pocket is an inch or so short from reaching the bottom and top of the bag. In addition to my iPad, I can add everything else I typically carry in my purse (i.e. wallet, two cell phones, keys, personal effects, etc.). I like how one cell phone is accessible using the side pocket. However, the pocket was smaller than expected but my Droid X fits, barely. The only drawback so far are the straps. The straps do not get small enough to raise the bag high enough for my taste (I am 5 foot 10 inches). However, since the straps have simple holes (no fancy eyelids), adding an extra hole was simple. So far, I am more than pleased with this bag.

Absolutely love this bag. It's the perfect size to hold the iPad plus many accessories without being too big. I didn't rate 5 stars because the straps aren't removable, however this is the best bag I've owned and find I use it more than any other...especially on our weekend trips up north. Holds my iPad 2, the irest stand, my wireless keyboard, and a few other little things like the stylus, charging cable, and cloth. I have to admit I love the leather of this bag, and the quality is very good. However, I need something a little bigger. The listed dimensions are a little deceiving; the 4.5" depth is stretching it a bit. I wanted something that would fit my "new iPad," Kindle, PS Vita, Nintendo 3DS, games, small camera, and a few additional items, but this was not it. I use a small purse, so this bag was to be a "gadget bag" in addition to the necessities I carry in my purse. All of the above fits, but very tightly and awkwardly. I have a leather case on my iPad, and with the case it doesn't fit in to the special slot, which might have solved the awkward problem. I put the Kindle in that slot, but because the Kindle is small and with everything pressing on it from the inside the edges jab out into my back when carrying it. I also wasn't too happy with the flap not covering the iPad section. Not having the flap does make it easier to access that pocket but I'd be afraid of possible rain entering that area. I tried different ways to fit everything, because aesthetically the bag is beautiful, but it makes weird bulges that aren't too comfortable. The outer pocket also hangs somewhat strangely; a bit stiff on one side but pliable on the side towards the straps. Sadly, I have to continue my search for a small, nice-looking bag that will fit my required travel partners and be easy to support their weight.

We bought this suitcase to replace a similar one by the same manufacturer that we used for 10 years and were really please with the functionality and the durability. The size is perfect; we have never been able to make it weigh more than the 50 pound limit that airlines impose. This new model has great spinner wheels. The problem is in the way the handles attach; they are poorly designed. On our first trip one of the handles became detached on one side when we were pulling it off the luggage carousel. Since it's the main handle, the suitcase is virtually useless now and I expect the same thing will happen to the remaining handle because of the design. Very disappointed!

I saw the review about the broken handle, but bought the suitcase anyhow. It just arrived, so I haven't used it. Everything is excellent, glides smoothly, spacious, attractive, well-made, but now that I see the handle in question, I'm concerned. It lays flat. You lift it out and it's accessible...but then it snaps right back to a smooth position. My concern is not for my use, it's about baggage handlers. If they get impatient trying to pull up the handle and use the push-pull device to lift the suitcase, that would break it. Since I like the suitcase otherwise, I'm planning to keep it and hope for the best, though still debating.
