where there is a clothes washer. So taking a lot of clothes is not nessessary. This backpack is large enough for 3 skirts,1 pair of capris,6 summer tops,1 zip-up hoodie,1 beach towel, bathing suit,underwear,2 pairs sandals, and a bag for personal care products. The small detachable backpack is perfect for the liquid bath products and extremly convenient when checking through security at airports. By having the two zipped together before bording it is one bag, therefore you can have an additional carry-on. When you get to your seat just un-zip the little pack and they both fit in the over-head bins, and you keep the third bag at your feet! The airlines have lost my checked luggage on two different trips, taking the joy out of traveling. So when I found this piece I knew I would not have to check luggage again unless I wanted to!
I did not use the big bag as a backpack but I looked at the straps and they are made with quality materials, and I know I won't hessitate to use it in that cappacity. My daughter is planning a trip through Europe next year and has already asked to borrow mine. Shhh,,, don't tell her, but she is getting one for her college graduation!!!My husband bought this bag for a 25 day trip to Europe. He packed enough clothes for the trip. The size made it great for traveling during the trip. The suitcase is a perfect size for fitting in the overhead bin. The dayback is the perfect size for keeping with you on a plane and to use as a daybag while sightseeing. The suitcase with the backpack zipped on fits nicely in European taxi cab trunks. The bag is two years old and is holding up beautifully.
I just bought another one for my use.
This is a great travel bag for folks who like to travel, carry on their luggage and not be overwhelmed by a bulky suitcase.
High Sierra AT3 Sierra-Lite Carry-On Wheeled Backpack with Removable Day Pack
Buy High Sierra 22" Wheeled Backpack Now
I bought this suitcase upon the recommendation of a friend who has an older model. I love this suitcase. I tend to be an over-packer and this holds much more than a tradition small suitcase. I usually travel for about a week at at time and have managed to fit: 2 pairs of jeans, 3 skirts, 2 dresses, 5 t-shirts, 5 tank tops, 2 sweaters, 3 pairs of sweatpants, panties, socks, 2 pairs of shoes in the large rolling part. The zip off day pack is FANTASTIC for holding full size toiletries. I manage to get full size: shampoo, conditioner, 2-body washes, toothpaste, toothbrushes, hair brushes, and medium sized make-up bag. I can also put a couple smaller books in there. The front zip pocket on the day pack holds my iPod, camera, contact lenses case, glasses case and batteries. As you can see, it holds a lot of stuff. It is incredibly durable and have had no problems with zippers busting or seams coming apart like I have had with less expensive suitcases.I have not found a better suitcase for the money.

My biggest problem had been finding a bag that would hold supplies for my three young kids when traveling, especially on long layovers. This is a great solution a rolling carry-on with an attached daypack that zips on and off. Same concept as a diaper bag + an extra bag with supplies that we use at home and in our car, but on the go.PROS
* You can put the whole thing through the security scanner and separate the daypack once you get to your seat.
* The main 22" compartment can be wheeled like a normal carry-on or be converted into a backpack. Very useful if you're pulling other luggage, pushing a stroller, carrying a baby in a carrier and/or don't have any hands free. You could put extra diapers, formula, bottles etc for the trip in the main compartment and/ or several days' worth of clothes.
* The main compartment of the daypack (12" x 14" x 4") opens on top but holds plenty. The front of the daypack has a zippered section for credit cards, a cell phone holder with a Velcro flap, three pen holders, a pocket (wish it had a zipper), and a key clip. A small zippered compartment on top is ideal for small item but cannot be locked. Overall, it's the same size as a large purse (12" x 16" x 6") so it works well as a bag that you can keep by your feet.
* The daypack can double as a detachable diaper bag. It can hold four 8-oz baby bottles, 2 water bottles on the side mesh pockets, a 4-tier Beaba Stackable Formula & Snack Containers in Sorbet, several super-absorbent diapers such as Huggies Overnites Diapers, Size 3, 76 Count (Packaging May Vary), a pack of wipes, and a small change of clothes.
* All zippers on the carry-on and day pack (except a small one on the day pack) are heavy-duty and can be secured with locks such as the Sharper Image TSA 3-Dial Combination Lock (TSI-9024). The metal zipper pulls are substantial, not flimsy at all like typical backpacks where locks are easy to break.
* High quality retractable handle with rubber grip adjusts to two heights 33" and 40", so it can be used by either children or adults.
* Comfortable padded handles on top and sides of the carry on are riveted for extra durability. A plastic handle on the bottom allows you to lift it up easily if horizontal.
* Rubber piping on edges provides added protection against wear.
* Rear padded flap hides adjustable, padded backpack straps until needed and provides cushioning for contents; it folds down and secures with Velcro when used as a backpack.
* Smooth rolling wheels and sturdy supports allow the bag to stand upright.
* Built in ID tag in back.
* I'm also thinking that a car seat could be strapped onto the main compartment with a Traveling Toddler Car Seat Travel Accessory (or a similar $5 climbing strap) if the bag is full I'm trying this on my next trip. The day pack would be detached and secured to the extended U-shaped handle with a separate built-in strap.
* Once the kids are older, you can use this bag for yourself or maybe sooner, actually.
CONS
* A little heavy at 10 lbs, but lighter than many other carry-ons. When stored, it is 9.5" deep when collapsed at it's widest point, with the day pack placed inside.
* The inside of the 22" main compartment (13" x 20" x 7") does not have any pockets or separators, except for a zipper to access the handle mechanism and the hard bottom. Two adjustable straps help hold the contents in place. There is a fairly large but shallow 12" x 16" pocket for magazines or other items on the outside of the carry-on, when the day pack is not attached.
* For some reason, the zipper that attaches the daypack to the main carry-on is not as thick as the others. I'm hoping it will hold up over time, although I don't plan to put too much weight in the daypack.
If you need a larger travel bag, the matching High Sierra 32" Drop Bottom Wheeled Duffle is an excellent choice. We have two that have been used for several years for cross-country travel as well as for overseas; it's great for families and couples, holds tons of stuff, has the back pack feature and is extremely durable. It can be used with two compartments or opened up into a giant one. We've even fit a Phil and Teds Portable Traveler Crib Black inside with all our clothes. It collapses when empty and stores easily, which is useful on cruises or wherever space is limited.
Anyway, two great alternatives for parents, now that the airlines are placing so many restrictions on gate-checking larger strollers and charging for baggage. In all, this two-in-one convertible carry-on is a pretty good deal.

I bought this bag based on features along with the recommendations here, and after using it on one trip last week I'm glad I did!I had been looking for something to use mainly on domestic flights, particularly to conventions and similar events out of state. I really needed something that didn't have to be crammed into overhead compartments (the main bag goes in easily!). I also have been trying to speed up and simplify my travel experiences, and a flexible package like this is in near-perfect alignment with that goal. I say NEAR perfect because this one almost gets there.
Others have pointed out what they like and dislike so I won't repeat their reviews, but offer details on what kept this rating from being 5 stars for me.
First, the lack of internal compartments in the main bag. My best luggage tends to have two pockets that either have elastic trim or flaps that close. These are very handy for separating things, and quickly pulling out the customary quart ziploc bag full of liquid items when needed (I prefer the ziploc not be on or in the other contents due to previous spills).
Second, while I love the fact that the daypack connects to the main bag for toting, and it unzips easily, zipping it back on can be a pain. I wish the zipper seam had been extended a bit more. NOTE: later the zipper snagged and broke. See update below.
Finally, there are little nagging things. The daypack straps need velcro or something added to tuck the dangling ends away. Splitting the daypack's main compartment in two would also be helpful for separating my netbook from other materials.
Update:
I had to bump this down a star after my third use. The zipper used for attaching the daypack to the main unit broke loose, and now I can no longer join the two. That feature was one of the main reasons I bought this. The zipper appears to be a little too cheap for this purpose.
It's been a little over a year and so far I don't see that I have any options to get this fixed...

Now the gripes (and the reasons for 4 stars, instead of 5): laptop compartment could use a little more padding, no outside pockets for stowing cans of soda/water bottles, etc. and the straps--at the top near the grab handle/loop they seem to be angled in rather sharply so that much of the weight of the pack rests on the inner edges of the strap nearest your spine. Not exactly comfortable, but I suspect that this has something to do with my small size rather than the pack, which is probably designed for larger people. The stock photo on this page shows a yellow butterfly embroidered logo patch but the pack I received has a bear (see the alite designs homepage--this must be their new logo) instead. No biggie, I'm not a butterfly girly-girl anyway. Just a heads up.
Last thing...I live in Seattle and the waterproofing on this thing is amazing. Water just beads up on the fabric and can be brushed away easily once I'm inside a building. I love this thing to pieces so far and am very glad I purchased it.

Bose Companion 3 Multimedia Speaker System (1 Sub woofer, 2 Satellites).
Toshiba Laptop, that is inside another protective padded bag.
AC very long extension.
Another very long extension cable for sound.
USB portable hard drive.
Optical mouse and its mouse pad.
PCMCIA sound card.
Manuals and magazines.
All cables, adaptors, connectors and adminicles that came with each device.
After I put all of this inside, of course the backpack looks like a fat guy, but the important point is that I can carry all my stuff and I'm sure it is secure.
The option of the little wheels are great 'cause all my stuff is kind of heavy. And one last thing I want to say is that I LOVE all those little pockets that come inside and outside the backpack, they are VERY useful to organize many many many things that you need to carry with when you go out.
Buy Outdoor Products Sea-Tac Rolling Backpack Now
The backpack is sturdy and I expect it to last a long time. There are 3 features that I do not like and they are as follows:1) There is a protective piece that covers the wheels & supports when it is used as a backpack (so that the wheels/support will not dirty your shirt while using it as a backpack). The piece needs to be bigger it now barely covers the wheels/supports so the edge of the wheels/support still will dirty your shirt when using as a backpack.
2) The front pocket has 2 peep holes that has no purpose other than just for looks. However, this causes rain or water to sip into the pocket wetting the contents.
3) The top of the second pocket also has a slit that will let water or liquid to get into that pocket.
Otherwise it is a study backpack

This back pack is well made. I was looking for a pack that would roll. The handle is long enough that I don't have to bend over to pull it. I'm 5'8". The wheels I was especially concerned with and this has the durable roller-blade wheels that will last. Those rubber ones didn't last 3 months wheeling through a downtown metroplex every day. There are many compartments, more room inside the largest than I've ever had. I just wish it had something a little more handy for things like bus passes or parking cards. But it seems to be a good quality bag and is helping my back considerably.Large interior (expandable by an additional inch or 2), 4 pockets, long rolling handle (huge plus), and so far extremely durable. I carry at least 2 laptops and a scanner 5 days a week (sometimes 3 scanners and 1 laptop). I've had the bag for 2 months and it continues to hold up well. There is only very minor fraying of the fabric near the wheels where it's dragged. The handle on the top doesn't show any signs of giving out soon. The zippers are still in perfect shape. The wheels are very smooth and it manuvers well. This is truly a large bag though not something you'd give to a kid in elementary school. The only drawback is that it doesn't quickly convert to a backpack you have to unzip the straps and wrap the flap over the wheels. It's just not as easy as another rolling backpack I had. This is probably only a small concern for most, however. I don't have a problem with it (hence 5 stars).Alps Big Bear Pack

Pros:
-Great Camo patterns.
-Easy to cary.
-Adjustable straps to fit adult sizes.
-It is compatible with Little Bear Optional Harness Pockets such as camera pocket.
-Fanny Pack Extends into Large Day Pack when you need an extra storage.
Cons:
-No rain cover.
Watch a video on youtube for a review:
I really like the ability to open up the day pack portion in the winter for extra clothes. I normally hunt with large durable backpack becasue I like to be able and add a coat or undershirt in the bag on cold days. Being able to colapse or expand makes it universal for trips in the woods. This hunting pack was well worth the spend.I received this package today it looks like a very well made pack, but somebody forgot the sew on the buckles to hold up the rest of the backpack.

When the folder clearly did not fit in the backpack my husband, an engineer, measured it. The length of the backpack down the center is 13 3/4", not 14", and the length on the sides measures a scant 12". The width at the bottom of the backpack measures 9 1/4", not 11", and the width along the top of the backpack is only 7 3/4".
I gave the backpack two stars because it is well made of quality materials.

This has proven to be a roomy, sturdy laptop case. It holds my 15.6" laptop, power supply, and a large 400 watt power inverter with room to spare. With all that it is rather heavy and the shoulder strap can be uncomfortable, but I don't have to worry about it breaking since the strap is held by metal, not plastic like many other bags. The interior is well padded, the seams are reinforced, and the zippers, also made of metal, appear strong and high quality. My only complaint is that there isn't a handle which would have made it easier to move around in cramped spaces like a car. The bright orange interior also seemed cheesy at first, but is not visible when the flap is closed.
Great bag that I can't see replacing unless I get a larger laptop.
Want Targus BT 16" Messenger Discount?
I have tried several cases and this one is the most practical one. It was love at first sight. It has a zipper outside on the flap. It has two main compartments inside; the front-most one has 1 med size pocket inside like for index card plus pen slots. the one further back is of course for the laptop, and its roomy enough for 1 big fat text book. then theres the cut little pocket in the pic ideal for cell. And then you also get one extra compartment behind the bag with a velcro closure.
The best part is that this has a magnet closure. In the pic the little flap that comes and touches the side of the bag actually has a magnet(on each side) so no annoying zipper or velcro announcement that you are opening up your messenger bag!
It also hold its shape very very well, this makes it easier to balance and maneuver; it hasn't hurt my shoulders yet.

- One main compartments with two way zipper closure
- Fully in-lined with polyester fabric , Large zip pocket , Interlocking straps
- Retractable, aluminum pull-up handle (17")
- Strong 2 clear rolling wheels , smooth and quiet moving wheels
- Authentic licensed product
1. Size: Very very small. It is NOT a suitcase but could be used for carry on luggage. The dimensions are given so I was expecting carry on size vs suitcase size but it does seem smaller than I expected.
2. Quality: Not great but not awful. Again this is a gift so I hope the recipient is happy with it. It would be destroyed if checked in as regular luggage. I would only use for carry on purposes or other non-plane travel. If it was damaged in shipping to me it seems like it's easy to dent the plastic material used.
3. Price: Way over priced....ok it's Hello Kitty but still...I wouldn't keep it for myself for this much but if the person I bought it for is happy with it than I'm ok with the cost.
4. Appearance: Adorable! It looks as cute as the picture and the color red is accurately shown (it's bright!). It's definitely super cute.
So overall I'm just not sure. Maybe I can update my review after seeing the reaction of the recipient (if I'm able to get a non-dented one in time).

Put a bright colored CoverLugg on a black bag and it makes it really visible. I have both
sizes. Love them!I plan on using this on our cruise in May along with others that are on order. After trying it on our large suitcase, I purchased a few more, but haven't received them yet. It went on easily and was easy to remove. They'll make spotting our luggage a breeze.

I got this for a halloween costume but it ended up being bigger than I thought it would be. We still kept it. It's a good standard backpack. The seller shipped fast but the product itself is so cheaply made. If it is for the occasional sleep over it would be fine, but for school it will last 1 month. I bought both my boys this backpack ( have to have solid color backpacks for school uniforms) and both ripped and broke very fast. This bag exceeded my expectation. It's bright, light and bigger than I thought. Totally happy with it and is a great addition to my all-black motorcycle gears. This bag is awesome. I can fit all my riding gear. My helmet, riding pants and jacket. The only thing I would change is where you tighten and loosen the straps to the backpack, it just blows free in the wind. What I just did is found an old backpack I don't use anymore and took the clips off that and put the clips on there. Works just fine. This is a good product.Disney Brave Backpack (ABRT)
