This bag is sturdily made and looks nice, but the inside is just one cavernous section. It looks like it would be good for carrying books, but if you have small items, they'll have to be stashed in the outside pockets. It's a good quality bag, though, for a very reasonable price.

I have recently started a walk/bus commute in which I walk several miles each day in Seattle. Consequently I needed a comfortable, waterproof backpack that also looks professional. Sure, you can get one of the large plastic sack bags with a roll top that looks like they would survive a roll over on your kayak. They are quite waterproof but do not look very professional. I have the District 30 which is a fantastic pack. It is a bit bigger than the Compact 25 but very similar in most ways. I had a hard time deciding which one to get. Either would have been a great purchase. Let me tell you about the District 30 since it is the one that I have. I have been using it for several weeks now and I have some observations.1. Comfort This bag is the most comfortable backpack I have ever owned. The company founder and pack designer has designed this bag with comfort in mind.
2. Professional/stylish This pack comes in many colors and I have the all black one. Let me just say that this is a cool and stylish looking pack. It has a roll top pack which I will cover later but it does not look like a large plastic bag. Regardless of the fact that it is waterproof, it is a great looking bag. It also has several other pockets for keys, papers, iPad, etc. It is not a one chamber bag.
3. Waterproof While I have not had the opportunity to try it in one of the big Seattle downpours yet, I have faced a few showers with everything staying completely dry. The main roll top chamber of the bag is lined with a waterproof liner. The outside pockets of the pack are protected with a waterproof flap. I have confidence that this bag will protect all of my items.
4. Quality You will not find a better pack for any price. The padding is great, the stitching is hefty and it is put together to last. This pack is hand made in Seattle. You can certainly pay less for a mass made pack but it will not be waterproof nor will it have this high quality. For all of the money I am saving riding the bus, I decided to invest in a quality pack. Why not?
So in summary, you cannot go wrong with any of the Velo Transit backpacks. They are high quality, waterproof, comfortable and built right here in Seattle.

3IN1 Backpack Dark Gray
I ordered this a while ago, about 3 years now, from Amazon, on sale, and just because it was on sale..I had no idea about the brand and the functionality of this item..What a surprise.After 3 years, with few slight rips on side pockets, due to my carelessness, the bag is still holding up with my daily use with books and laptop.
I cannot find any negative feedback about this bag, only to offer my criticism to Ohmetric for not manufacturing more of these types of bags..
What is good about this bag, plain and simple:
1-It is sturdy, as indicated above after 3 years, it is still functional and in tact, looks like it has been used for 3 months..I am yet to see other brands with the same quality..
2-Laptop carrying design: laptop is placed inside a pouch on the rear of the bag (see the Amazon photo), means that if you backpack this, laptop is protected between your back and the front part of the bag with good cushioning, separated from the main compartment of the bag.. There is a hard tray in the this storage part which keeps the pouch straight and supported which can be taken out and used as a laptop rest, thus, if your laptop heats up underneath, protecting your lap.
3-Carryon attachment functionality: This is a function I got compliments in airports from other business travelers..There is a put through piece on the back of the laptop, where you can slide in the pulling extension of any carry on bag. So, while you extended the carry on pull walking, you can put this bag through it securing it safely, and pull your carry on only and carry both pieces..it stay securely attached to any carry on..almost custom made..those of you who try to load carry on with small handbags on top but slip it and fail, you know what I mean..Bag does not move or falls down when attached to the carry one luggage. In fact, I would think that it would functional the same even with any regular luggage that has carry on type of extensions to pull.
There are other minor design advantages but i wont need to talk about them..
In conclusion, if you are looking for a very, but very good backpack that carries laptop safely and comfortable, do not even perform more searched on Amazon..Just buy this..I am not obsessed with items (except Macbook Air), yet, I cannot help but be very enthusiastic about this bag..

Loved the bag great shipment. I have has many backpacks. This is by far the best I have had. This is my 4th one. I am a business man that travel all over the world. This bag is light, with very well thoughts compartments. If is not flashy but does the job extremely well.I recently switched from a leather briefcase to this backpack. It is far more comfortable for me to carry, and I love the additional storage I did not have with my backpack. I can now make quick overnight trips by carrying only this backpack and my purse. Getting through airport security is much easier due to the quick access of my laptop from the side computer pocket. I've also, surprisingly, gotten a lot of use from the portable lap desk (the hard shell computer case). The only complaint is that I wish they made one where the straps were placed with a slightly narrower profile. Adjusting the straps frequently at first helped me find what I believe is an optimum balance. Another improvement would be if it had a waist strap for when I need to walk long distances with it.

My backpack came in the mail a few days early, and I'm so happy about it! This bag is a true khaki color, which the picture doesn't give justice too.I haven't been out in the rain with it yet, but the material looks moderately weather resistant. It feels pretty sturdy, and fits comfortably when I wear it.
Like mentioned in other reviews, the straps bind with magnets which I actually adore! There is also a little hidden zipper for the external pocket.
To feel reassured, know that the magnets are sturdy. Don't get the impression this backpack has poor enclosure.
I've had a bag with functioning straps and it was a pain getting things in and out over and over again, so I appreciate an alternative way to pack up.
If you're not convinced with the magnets, there is a drawstring hidden away at the mouth so nothing sneaks out-despite the backpack having so much space inside.
The Little America is a very roomy bag, and proves to be an exceptional choice for collage students who are hauling books around and their other supplies and necessities.
The laptop pouch is a great addition too. I will say however, it is not a true fit for a 17 inch computer. I use a 15 in MacBook Pro, and it's the perfect size for this bag.
All in all, the Little America Backpack by Herschel Supply is an excellent buy. It's a beautiful bag that performs as well as it looks.
Since I've bought it, I've noticed more and more people around the city sporting them around too. Both men and women seem to be enjoying it as much as myself.
It's a gorgeous backpack, and I'm stoked to get more use out it!

I took it to Greece for 2 weeks and used it on the ferries and planes as my carry on, and then for beach days, packed it with sunscreen and towels. Be careful of the materials that the sellers send you! Don't end up paying more than it's worth. I had a bad experience because the bag that I received was not 100% cotton as stated in the description, fortunately I noticed and returned it right away. This bag is big, and nice looking. There aren't many bags this big, looks this nice and has a reasonable price.Carried it around over the weekend with my macbook pro 15" and a host of other devices and my shoulders were still doing well after a fair bit of walking.
It is also slightly waterproof and that kept my stuffs dry when it rained (the bag still got a bit wet)
It doesn't have good support for the back though so my back still hurt a bit from the carrying.
I've also noticed another guy carrying it in my school. His brown straps are already fraying quite badly, so I won't really recommend it if you are going for something really good looking.
Not enough pockets to put my gadgets' accessories too.
Then again, it's rather cheap for something like this.

I love this bag. I wanted to get something that I could take to the beach with a cooler and this works perfectly. It arrived quickly and has a ton of pockets. I can put five water bottles in the cooler. The front straps hide away and it is very comfortable to wear when stuffed. The only issue I had was with the zippers. One of the zippers on the side pocket was sewn shut when it arrived so I had to cut the stitching so I could use the pocket. It is a very sturdy bag and I'm always getting compliments on it. The gray is really a nice look. It holds everything and more and the strap is comfortable. The ONLY thing is it's a bit heavy so it can be a strain on your shoulders.
Logitech Kinetik 15.4 Backpack
This is a sharp looking backpack with a lot of nice features and room for slender items like folders and paperwork and slim binders. The zippers throughout the backpack are smooth and travel well, with few hang-ups. The exo-shell casing definitely contributes to the clean-cut look, but there are some drawbacks to this exo-shell design depending on your intended use.I travel full time and my old backpack had a laptop section and then a cavernous main storage space where I could place all my gadgets and smaller hardware devices (I'm a network engineer, so I need things like spare network cables, a small network switch, and other small gear like that, as well as the ever-present wireless mouse, power brick for my laptop and a drawstring pouch big enough to carry my iPod essentials).
There are many little pouches and slits/slots for paperwork-style stuff or binders, but the only real place to keep my bulky gadgets is in the netted pocket on the lower portion of the inside of the shell. This works well enough, but because all of this weight is distributed to the front of the backpack, it has a tendency to tip over forwards when set down (even with the laptop providing counterbalance in the middle-back section of the backpack). This sort of defeats the advertised free-standing feature of this backpack. I found myself having to lean it against something or brace it in some way to keep it from falling over when not slung over my shoulder. It behaved better when fully opened and unloaded of my bulky gear, but even then it would tip forwards sometimes.
Another problem is that in order to access anything inside of the main compartments, you have to pretty much unzip it all the way, because the stiff exo-shell prevents any attempts for quick access. You might find yourself wrestling with the backpack when you're doing this, to keep it upright, because of the aforementioned problem with weight distribution. If you want easy access to anything you're carrying in this backpack, keep it in one of the smaller external zippered compartments
If you're an air traveler (like me), be warned: you may sometimes have trouble stowing this backpack on the plane because of its exo-shell. The rigid design doesn't let you squeeze it into tight spaces that would be handled just fine by an otherwise full fabric backpack (especially on those smaller regional jets with very small overheads and cramped under-seat storage).
Something that is completely missing is a side pocket for a water bottle. Lots of backpacks have these nowadays, and my old one had two mesh ones. This one has none, and no alternative external pouch.
While these things are a negative for my purposes, this is still, overall, a very nice backpack. The exo-shell definitely gives it a sleek, sharp look, and the fabric is a good quality ballistic nylon. The shoulder straps are connected along the full length of the top section of the backpack, which I feel would make it hold up very well over time, as most "traditional" backpack straps are separate and can eventually fray and come loose from the body of the backpack, requiring repair.
As far as externally-accessible compartments, the right strap contains a zippered compartment for a small/slender MP3 player or phone and a headphone port. This little compartment could also feasibly hold folded up paperwork like a boarding pass or your ID (for all those air travelers out there), giving quick and easy access that doesn't require you to un-shoulder the backpack.
There is a side zipper on the left side along the back that serves as the "official" quick-access storage compartment. It can hold more paperwork than the shoulder strap compartment and was designed specifically for this purpose.
A zippered compartment on the top of the backpack expands into the rear (laptop) compartment directly above the laptop sleeve. It makes for your best externally accessible storage for miscellaneous items.
For the main compartments, the rear compartment holds the padded laptop storage sleeve with Velcro strap on the inner wall, along with two slender storage slots for paperwork on the outer wall (the back of the backpack). I keep a notepad in the lower, full-size one. The half-size pouch above it is a tight sleeve and only good for thin items or paperwork.
The forward main compartment has a thin zippered pouch on the top of the inner wall and a good-sized sleeve about two inches wide, big enough for a binder, bunch of folders, or in my case, my spare network cables and small three-plug power cord. On the outside face of this pouch is a small elastic pouch, three pen sleeves, a bunch of business card sleeves, and a clip for things like your key ring or similar item. Opposite of this is the inside of the exo-shell, which at the top has two Velcro-sealed pouches side by side, each with graphics on them suggesting possible items you may want to keep there (iPod, small camera, mouse, webcam, thumb drives, etc). These are nice little pouches and I like them, but putting stuff in them contributes to the forward-leaning weight of the backpack. Below these two pouches is the main storage area for anything large. An elastic-rimmed mesh pouch covers it about halfway to the top, and it's good for carrying the laptop power brick and anything else of that size.
With all that said I would recommend this backpack to anyone that doesn't need to carry a lot of extra hardware beyond the laptop, laptop power brick, a mouse, and maybe another small electronic device like a camera and/or iPod. If you need more gadget space and less filing space for folders/paperwork/binders, or are thinking of using this for frequent business travel on airplanes, keep looking, otherwise, this backpack will serve you well and look good doing it. Just remember to load-balance it so it doesn't fall on its face.
Multimedia wise it was designed with you in mind: the pocket for the MP3 player (I have Classic iPod) is roomy and is located in one of the shoulder straps. This allows you to access your player without having to take your backpack off. In my opinion very smart and humane idea.
However.... with all my kudos to the makers of this great backpack, I have to mention one flaw. The outer shell is nice a matte but is very easily scratched. It takes a light tangential bump into a furniture or a wall or somebody's backpack (especially if you are a student, as I am) to leave a scratch. The worst part is all the scratches come out white. Very annoying. I am starting to think I will need some stickers to cover those ugly scratches... or maybe some shoe polish.
Other than that I love this backpack.

Well, I will say that it does fit into the padded compartment, just barely. It's Tight going in, and a bit tighter coming out. It may not be the safest way to carry a 17 inch laptop, being so tight, but it works for me.
The shoulder compartment for the MP3 played won't quite fit a 4th gen Ipod, but does make a nice stash spot for Jump drives, dongles and the such. All and all, it gives enough room for the laptop, power supply, mouse, A couple notebooks. a binder, and various odds and end.
The hidden compartment on the back is big enough for passports and (folded) traveling papers. The bag packed full will fit into most all carry on size check cages. Although, security will have fun making you clear out all the half hidden pockets.
The bag is well balanced, has a good amount of support, and comfortable for travel. The scuffing mentioned elsewhere is a real issue. The shell coating seems to be neoprene. For anyone who hasn't used a neoprene in the past, it is awesome in that is nigh impossible to put a permanent mark on. However, it also gets temporary marks easily. With the right amount of elbow grease and water, (or mostly any other non-astringent cleaner) you can get almost any mark out. All and all I am happy with my purchase.

I just received this bag and from the start I can tell its a keeper. While I only have a netbook, I was in the market to buy a hardshell backpack that I could use while biking to school. I figured that if I took one bad fall, my netbook and I were in for pain.That is till I came across the Kintek. It offer amazing protection. The Exo-shell is just amazing. It's rigid enough to withstand hard impacts(or punches) but shows some very subtle signs of flexing(which is a good thing in my opinion). My only gripe with the backpack is that it doesn't have a pouch on the side for water bottles which I use often.
The bag also offers so much space in such a small package; Every part of this bag is used to effectively that I wish I could purchase several of these bags for if/when this one becomes destroyed.
I simply love this bag and can only wonder why Logitech doesn't offer it on their website.
If Batman were to use a backpack, he'd use a Logitech Kinetik.

This bag can comfortably accommodate my 17" dell laptop and all of the other junk that i feel i need to haul around with me. Too often the what you see on the internet turns out to be a little to big in the flesh if you know what i mean. Not so here. Additionally, its very comfortable for short to medium distances, has plenty of storage compartments that can be reconfigured (a few more compartments like that would make it great), and draws lots of interest with the shell and striking colors. The only downfall so far has been the scuff marks to the shell from my desk, doors, and walls. the white scuffs prove difficult to remove.

I have several Briggs & Riley pieces after I finally realized that most luggage is poor quality these days. Have had this bag for a few weeks and, although I haven't punished it enough, it feels really solid, particularly the plastic snaps, which seem like they would otherwise be vulnerable. (Their bags have a lifetime warranty).Design comments:
* Pad on shoulder strap is comfortable and shoulder strap lengthen-shorten unit doesn't slip like it can on many bags of this type
* Bag just feels too big; for a guy who's 5' 7" it's just too wide
* Had laptop pouch but is, again, a little big, made for people carrying 17"+ computers, which doesn't seem to align with the idea of a shoulder bag. Too big for an iPad
* As I guy, I don't know how women manage purses but so far I'm finding that it doesn't have enough pockets, so if you have a lot of devices, keys, papers, etc., they end up getting loose like I presume they would in a purse.
* Ocean color was on sale when I bought it; if you wear a lot of blue consider that this bag may clash aesthetically.
Overall: does the job and is high quality but more interior pockets and a shrunken size would make it better.

Fjallraven Kanken Backpack
I have been using these bags since I first bought one in Stockholm almost ten years ago. The design is great--they are very lightweight, comfortable with reasonable loads, and obviously classic looking. Unfortunately they are overpriced for what they are. I bought a new bag about a month ago and I'm not impressed with the durability. It seems like the prices have gone up a lot without any increase in manufacturing quality. For a small daypack that costs $75, you'd expect it to be something better made than a Wal-Mart item. But the fabric on the inside started fraying immediately and now a small hole has appeared on the bottom of the pack. I love these bags for their style and function, but I really feel a bit stupid for paying so much for a bag that look so beat up after only a month of use. I've never gotten a hole in any of my other backpacks, even ones I've use for multiday trips in the backcountry.Unfortunately these packs are now a fashion item, so Fjallraven can double the prices, send the manufacturing to the cheapest factories, and people will still buy them. Note that this $75 schoolchildren's backpack is made in Vietnam, not Sweden.
It's original and practical. Most backpacks have rounded tops, which I never found useful for anything, but the rectangular design on this is just right for books. Inside, there is a tall pocket in the back which is useful for little essentials like eyedrops, altoids, and toiletries you'd rather not have out in the open every time you open the bag. Retrieving items from inside is made exceptionally easy, partly due to the rectangular shape and the easy with which the front can be folded down. There's room for about three 1.5'' binders or two 1.5'' binders and one 14'' laptop. Outside, the front pocket offers enough room for a phone, wallet, and keys. The two pockets on the sides I often use for a small umbrella and a disposable water bottle. My favorite part is that the zippers are quality YKK zips and don't have or need the dangling tassels many backpacks have, which often fray or fall off anyway.
The only real con is that the straps are not padded and easily chafe bare skin (but in terms of design, the thinness is nice and is less bulky than, say, Jansport Straps)...if you're in Europe, there are a lot of stores that sell padded straps as an accessory, though they're harder to find in the US. Also, if you're looking to carry more than one huge, heavy textbook, I don't recommend this since it's not especially large. It's not waterproof, only slightly water-resistant, and I would recommend buying wax to coat it on days with heavy rain; it can easily get soaked BUT it dries up relatively quickly, doesn't warp, and isn't prone to stains--from either wet or dry elements. I have never had to clean it and it's only slightly dirty on the bottom (my own fault) and have not yet needed to sew anything up for any reason.
In terms of durability, the quality is really impeccable. I've owned mine for more than a year now, taken it to university, through crowded NYC public transportation, and on numerous vacations and the zippers and most of the seams are very much the same as when I bought it.
All in all, I love this backpack and I've spent a lot of time looking at new backpacks for school only to end up wanting to get another Kanken in a different color.

I had one of these packs years ago, before it was a fashion pad. I have to say the boxy design is a turn off. They look cute on kids, but for adults it is not flattering. The straps are not too comfortable, so I would not put more than one to two books. The main compartment and the accessory pocket are both not huge, don't expect to put a MEAD notebook in them. The removable cushion on the back is a plus if you are using it for outdoor purpose. The side pocket is very narrow and would not fit most water bottle (maybe a smallish plastic evian). The material is not too durable, mine worn down quickly within a year; and $75 for a pack is (cheap by Swedish standard) but expensive by frugal US standard. I love it! I am using it today! Great bag to throw things in for an overnight trip. It's stylish and unique. Yeah it's a bit pricey but its cheaper than a Kipling!

I dont have too much experience buying stuff online. The bag pack is little bit small sized. I can barely put 2 books in it. We bought this for our son to start Kindergarten as it was one of the only backpacks we could find that had trains on it that wasn't Thomas. It is an adorable print and my son loves it. The only thing you can't really gather from the pictures is that it is a little small. It is definitely bigger than a toddler backpack, but it's not quite a full-size backpack.

We had an adorable Skip Hop dog backpack which proved too small for a standard folder which they use at school for correspondence. I debated LL Bean or Pottery Barn kids but didn't love their designs. This is perfect. The pattern is fun and crisp with a great mix of trains and other vehicles.The large pocket holds his folder (a bit tight) along with a large ziploc for his change of clothes and there's plenty of room left for a lunch bag or lovey. The front pocket holds diapers, wipes, and has room left. I don't use the small organizer pockets yet but expect it would be nice for small toys, sanitizer, etc. The overall size is just right for my 3.5 year old in that it's a little big so that he can grow into it. I hope to keep it at least thru Kindergarten.
I expect it will be great when we do sleepovers at Grammoms soon, too.
My son would like the design to have more trains / all trains / several train cars hooked together, but that's not the design. If they offered a train only design, that would have been our pick.

Protec Deluxe Notebook/Tablet Messenger Bag
Having recently purchased and returned the ProTec Blackout Messenger Bag, I found this one to suit my needs nicely. There are actually three compartments.The front compartment is secured by a flap like many messenger bags. The flap has two zipper pockets on the front to store small items like your keys and wallet. This flap is held in place by a buckle and velcro. The front compartment has a little organizer and can hold an iPad.
The main compartment is where you can store your music books/binders/folders. It also contains a laptop section for you laptop. Not sure what size laptop it holds, but it is there.
The third compartment on the back is and is flat. This can be used to hold loose sheet music as well as the black folder that most groups use to hold music. The thing about the back compartment is that it is not zippered like the main compartment. It is held shut by velcro in the center, so items in that area can be damaged if water gets into it. It is also too short for music folder
One side of the bag has a pouch to hold your small gear while the other side has a water bottle holder.
Really great bag. Would have given 5 stars but there are a few things that brought it down.
1) The D Ring and hardware for the shoulder strap plastic, not metal
2) The pulls on all the zippers are cords rather than metal.
Other than those two points, if you have lots of music, this will do the job for you.

The size of this backpack is ideal: it fits a standard school binder and still has a lot of room for a lunch bag and other essentials. Love big pockets as well. What surprised me in a bad way the fabric is very, very thin, almost...flimsy. Feels cheap.This backpack is an upgrade from "Dora's bags are for babies!!!" and I must say that Dora was very sturdy compared to this one. We shall see.
Upd 12/30/12: I did survive a year and still looks pretty decent.

I was looking for a "big girl" backpack now that my daughter is almost 7. I try to avoid theme/character stuff if I can, and this looked perfect for her-pretty, "girly"-but not too girly.It's plenty big for all her school supplies, lunch, etc. and makes her feel pretty good toting it around "campus."

It has a lot of compartments for the little things my daughter picks up along her way. The big compartment can easily accommodate all her folders, coat and lunch. The fabric is a little thin and so I'm not sure how long it will last, but it is beautiful and priced well. We are really enjoying it.
