Bought this for my MacBook Air (11") and it is great! I was worried about my Mac fitting with the case on, but I had no problems getting it to fit; it easily slid in with the case on. It won't, however, fit the cord with the laptop. Which I didn't expect it to since I don't usually carry the cord with me to class, but thought I would add that for those of you who are wondering.

The handle on the top is really handy too, in case I am taking my computer somewhere without my whole backpackI can carry it safely without clutching it to my chest like you do with a traditional laptop sleeve. Also it's red, which is a big plus since red is so awesome.Using this with a 2012 Macbook Pro Retina 15" the long dimension fits very well. Lots of extra room on the short edge, I guess for laptops with a taller screen. With that extra space, I'm able to fit the laptop in the padded internal sleeve, as well as an iPad in its own padded case sitting on top. I like the double zip seals, very confidence-inspiring and there's a clear tactile feel and sound as they zip all the way closed. The velcro flap seal might only slow down a drenching a tiny bit, but it could help protect the zips from accidentally unzipping. I like that the interior padded sleeve is removable, as it's often unnecessary (for instance, with a bag that already has a padded sleeve). Without the padding, the waterproof sleeve is quite minimal in bulk. Mine weighed in at 5oz for the outer sleeve alone, 2oz for the padding. The color is a little more muted than in the photos here. I'd like to see some natural earth tones as well, just as an aside.Like others, I use this for bike commuting. I strap it with bungies over the top of my Old Man Mountain Cold Spring front rack, as my panniers are a bit small for the laptop. The A-Q case fits my 12.5" thinkpad x220 perfectly. I have the TP in a case logic neoprene case (the sleeve accompanying the A-Q is mediocre and I don't use it, but that didn't downgrade my five-star review because I didn't buy this for the sleeve) and the whole thing then fits perfectly. Not too snugly, but not loose. Very good seal at top, kind of like an industrial strength zip-loc. The carrying strap is handy. Very good piece of gear.

I purchased this backpack hoping it will hold up to the heavy books i have to carry for my classes, so far its held up well. The only thing i didn't like was a few weeks in, two of the metal pieces on the front of the backpack began to fall or come apart. Deuter Futura 28 Backpack: Black/Titan
This backpack is spectacular. I bought this to take backpacking through Central America, but I really wish I had one of these to use in school!The greatest feature of this pack is the compact lightweight spring-steel suspension it uses to keep the bulk of the pack off your back. The only thing touching your back is a thin mesh that lets air circulate and keeps you from sweating and getting an embarrassing sweat stain. It also rests on your hips which makes it much more comfortable to carry around than a typical backpack.
The main compartment of the pack can be accessed from the top or the bottom zipper you can see in the picture. This comes in super handy if you have something in the bottom but don't want to pull everything out of it. The inside of the main compartment can be split in two by a zipper which turns the bottom zipper into its own area. This is especially nice if you have some wet clothes but don't want to ruin the rest of the stuff in your pack.
It also an area to put something like a CamelBak but it could be used for additional storage as well. Combine this with the main compartment, the ability to split off the main compartment to make the bottom zipper access separate, elastic side compartments and another zipper compartment on the top of the bag and you have everything you need.
To top off all the cool things this pack does, the bottom has a built in rain fly that you can quickly pull out to make your pack waterproof if you get hit with a heavy downpour!
The only downfall to this pack is it's size, it only holds 1700 cubic inches which isn't very much, a typical school backpack is about 2300 cubic inches. However if you think this could be an issue, don't worry! Deuter offers many other high quality packs in various sizes.
I learned about this backpack through check it out for other cool stuff.
The major selling point is that it has a metal frame that curves away from you, with a thin mesh web where a normal pack would press against your back. There are three points of contact where your back touches the bag, two on your hips and one across your shoulders. This is great for someone who sweats a lot (me), I was able to wear it on a recent hike where my back would have been soaking wet, and it was very comfortable.
The design is nice, there's an elastic pouch inside for water bladders, a large main pack, and then a lower pack where I stored clothing. The lower pack is configurable and can be joined to the main pack. There are also two bottle holders and then an easy-to-reach small pouch at the top that could fit a small camera, papers, etc. There are compression straps on the side that are long enough to reach around a rolled-up jacket, so if you end up taking off your coat you can strap it outside the pack.
Also nice is having the frame in a daypack for support. Previous daypacks I've used had no frame and were consequently difficult to pack.
In Germany I saw a lot of people with Deuter packs, so I think that says something about the construction quality.
The only downside is that the pack isn't too stylish. Because it's held off your back by the frame, it looks a little bulkier than if it lay right against you. Still, I never felt self-conscious, it's just that the bag doesn't win any points for looks.
Overall, highly recommended.

I've carried a pack almost every working day on my daily commute to work for the past 20 years. I've gone through many packs but none have been as comfortable in the summer as a Deuter Futura 28. The 2008 has been improved with an internal mesh pocket and a more easily accessible outer pocket. Its not light and fast but it is sturdy and comfortable. The real comfort comes from the internal frame air comfort mesh which keeps the pack off the carriers back. The stowable rainfly pocket is also nice to carry a few extra small items. I use it for emergency glove liners, an extra tube and a small wrench tool. The downside is the pack looks like it should carry more than it does. Also, it seems designed for a slightly longer torso so even though its relatively small, the chest strap rides high if you're around 5'8" or shorter. A shovel pocket, more gear loops, and an up-and-down adjustable chest strap would improve this specific pack. I look forward to trying their other products.Additionally, my experience with Deuter's customer service has been all positive. After several years of quality use, the zipper blew out on the main compartment of my first Futura 28. Through REI, Deuter replaced the pack and only asked that I pay shipping.

The cool-back design rocks, the built in rain cover, the two large water bottle pockets and the dividable main space are all excellent. The only thing that they really blew is the waist belt it's just a thin strip, so it really sucks for comfort. Every other element is very impressive. I just took this as my only pack for a three-week trip overseas, carrying my 13" laptop along the way. If they'd fix the belt, I'd easily give it a 5, but the way it is, I'm considering selling it... I like the layout of the pockets and straps. Every one meets a need I have in a bag.5 stars would have been awarder if it wasn't for the hip-wings that I find chafe a bit. Maybe I have love handles? It took a while to find the right position for the bag to sit on my back; once I did it feels fantastic. But if the hip-wing material wasn't SO ROUGH it would have earned 5 stars.

I bought one of these a year ago at Sam's Club for my youngest son because he liked the color. I thought it was a bit of overkill since he's in elementary school, but the price wasn't bad. This backpack performed so well that I happily shelled out to buy another one for my older son. I have them hanging next to each other right now and from where I sit, if I didn't know which was which, I wouldn't be able to tell you which was the new one and which was a year old.As you would expect from a "Swiss Army" backpack, there are lots of extras. My preschooler loves this backpack and was excited to add it to his Spidey collection. I like that it has double zippers for more functional opening and closing. i bought this bag about 6 months ago for my MacBoook Air. It is nice and lightweight, but the quality just isn't there. First one of the straps that goes across your middle came off, but I didn't worry about it because I never use it. Then last night on my way out the door one of the shoulder straps just came completely off at the bottom. On inspection, it didn't rip, but rather the fabric stitched into the bag at the bottom just frayed and pulled out. I noticed that the top of the strap is not far behind, either. Very disappointing as I love the slim size and light weight.

There is very little interior space in this backpack. From front to back, it's narrow. And the fabric is stiff, so it doesn't flex to allow more stuff to be fit inside. I was barely able to fit my quart-size baggie of liquids (as per security guidelines), a medium-size notebook pad, a Kindle, and a small purse (clutch-sized) inside. And I still had to take everything out to access what was out the bottom, because there's not enough room in the backpack for my arms with only those few items.Also, as you can see in the photo, there are no front pockets. There are also no side pockets--no drink carrier nets. You have to unzip the thing from the top to access your wallet, keys, phone, and other small items. Very inconvenient.
That being said, the unzip-all-the-way-down-the-middle feature definitely simplifies security screening at the airport. So three stars for that.
I had a similar bag from Targus that was roomier. With the Targus bag, I was able to put my liquid baggie between the large sections of the bag. As a result, unzipping simultaneously made my laptop ready for screening and and enabled me to extract my baggie. Sadly, this bag is too small for that. A completely full quart-size baggie of liquids is a super tight squeeze in the center of the backpack.

This was hand's down the best bag I've ever owned. Have a feeling it will last the rest of my life (as long as someone doesn't steal it for being too awesome).

This "backpack" is not a backpack at all. It is a stuffed toy that can be carried by backpack straps (or a hand loop).The zipper's max opening is about 4 1/4 inches -less than the width of a small index card.
Open the zipper and you find a piece of thin but very strong fabric sewn firmly into both sides of the zipper, sealing off the inside irrevocably.
So, I thought, am I missing something? Is there a realistic opening somewhere?
NO.
Cut open the fabric that seals off the inside of the object and you find not the expected support of crumpled paper or the like, but tightly packed dense, springy, synthetic stuffing. Lots of it.
Take out the stuffing and the flimsy "plush" collapses flatter than a plastic grocery bag. The piece that keeps you from getting into the pack is far firmer and stronger than the toy's covering (a lightly napped very thin fabric).
I could barely get my not very large hand through the opening. My 3 year old granddaughter could, or could drop a Lego block into it, but if she did she probably couldn't reach to the bottom of the sack to get it out.
I got this for my husband (a retired college professor and Tweety enthusiast) for a sort of whimsical birthday present, as I have two real backpacks about this size and find them very useful. I can't imagine that this thing would be good for anything, for anyone of any age.
I see nothing in the description that says that this is a stuffed toy that can be carried on the back, that there is no functional opening, or that the object is not intended for use as a backpack in the sense of something to carry things in, as it clearly was not. I can only take this to be deliberate deception. Anyone lives in the West has heard the story of the local "haystack rock" -the huge rock covered thinly with hay and sold to the naive Easterner as a haystack.
Buy this and you can have your very own haystack rock, or should I say Tweety haystack.
Thankful as I am for Amazon's return policies, I'm not sure I'll be able to return this, as I had to mutilate it to find that it was a stuffed toy, not a backpack.
I hope Amazon's description checking people will put this company and this brand on a Red List and check any other objects they may be trying to foist off on trusting Amazon customers against the descriptions.
