The backpack seems well-made and convenient; a bargain at this price. However, 'stuffing' my 17" HP into it is a tight fit. I guess when it said that it would accommodate a 17" laptop, it should have said 'but only just barely.'

If you like to have lots of things in your backpack, then look further. This item is not for you. I have 4 notebooks, 1 1" binder, a small textbook, a medium textbook, and a large textbook. And after a few minutes the inside started to rip. But it was also my fault as I should of been more careful of what I buy.

I really like the look and comfort of this backpack, and the cell phone pocket is really convenient, but two immediate concerns upon unpacking.1) The built-in laptop sleeve doesn't seem to fit a 15 inch macbook pro its own padded sleeve case. The backpack's sleeve probably provides enough protection for the computer, but when inserted by itself into the backpack sleeve by itself, the macbook flops around against my back, which is really really annoying. I'm going to see if I can rig a makeshift solution to make it work and will report back.
2) The lining material seems pretty flimsy and I can imagine it ripping if any sharp-ish object is placed in the backpack. In addition, there are already some minor signs of wear in the material near the top zipper and on the straps.
Time will tell if these prove to be problems, and I'll update with what I find out...

These bags are great. I have used Seal Line bags for years now and I've always been happy with their quality and performance. These are a very thin light weight version compared to others I have used. I've used this bag several times outdoors and it's always kept its contents perfectly dry. However, I read a review on another site that criticized this bag for leaking badly. So, I decided to test it. I turned it inside out and and filled it with about a half a gallon of water and hung it up over my kitchen sink overnight with some dry paper underneath. In the morning there was not even a slight leak. This 5 liter version is great for storing clothing items inside a backpack without worrying about them getting wet. I've been so pleased with this bag that I got a 2.5 liter and a 10 liter bag to go with it. I will definitely trust these bags to keep my clothes and other gear dry on camping and hiking trips.

Targus Terra 16" Laptop Backpack
Obviously, I love this bag! I have a 15.6 inch Toshiba Satellite. My laptop fits perfectly in the bag. There is an elastic strap with velcro to hold the computer in, so it can't accidentally fall out when you are removing it, or packing it. There are a ton of compartments for the laptop accessories. I think if I filled them all up, I probably couldn't carry the bag.Maybe you could, I'm just saying there is a bunch of room in this bag. There is a place to put an MP3 player or ipod and a spot for your headphones near the top of the bag. There are compartments on the outside of the bag for water bottle or whatever, and there are straps and hangers all over the place.
The body of the bag is nicely padded and so are the over the shoulder straps. There is also a padded carrying handle at the top of the bag. The bag seems to be very well thought out and very well made, and I would recommend it to anyone needing a great bag for their laptop.
What I love is this backpack is comfortable and I mean very comfortable! I have several backpacks and none feel as good as this one on carrying stuff. The heavy padding really helps cushion it all and it feels as though I am not carrying anything. The adjustable straps can adjust to any body size and the sturdy material will hold up well in all kinds of weather. I can honestly say this is the best backpack I have ever had or seen. I just wanted you to know though that you don't have to have a laptop to use this backpack. It can be used for many other things too. I am also able to pack a sack lunch and still have room in this roomy backpack for it to fit. The best backpack out there in my opinion!

Targus is known for making sturdy backpacks for an inexpensive price that will outlast most of the other brands. We have bought two of these Targus backpacks since 2004. I can tell you firsthand that the only problem we have ever had are with the zippers. The first backpack we bought in 2004 had a zipper which came off track after wear when it was 10 months old. I contacted Targus at their website, as they have a limited lifetime warranty and they sent us a new backpack, even after 10 months! Who does that? Other than the zipper issue, the nylon backpacks wear like iron. We get about 3 years use out of each backpak, which is tremendous as one or two years is normal.It seems as though every time we buy a new Targus backpack, the improvements are really great. This new design is super light weight, yet well padded on the bottom, back, and surrounding the laptop compartment. The interior has 3 main zipper compartments. The first and largest compartment is divided into 2the well padded side for the laptop and the other really large side will hold the biggest, heaviest books you can fit. I'm talking up to 15 pounds of books and you don't get a shoulder or back ache. There is also a large net pocket and a place for a phone and ipod pockets with a hole to run your headphone wire through to the outside. Super convenient.
The second zippered compartment is almost as large where you can also pack heavy books into, as well as it has, small pockets for cards, phone, digital camera, mouse, pens and a larger pocket also for things like paper or tablets. There is also a key clip for your keys. The last outside pocket is good sized also. This will fit lighter things, as it is not as well padded for heavy items. You can hold a water bottle on each side as well. For really bad weather, which seems to be the norm these days, on the bottom is a compartment which holds a complete cover for rain or snowgreat extra protection from the wet elements. Besides the heavy duty shoulder straps, they made a carry handle at the top which has extra padding.
You get a lot for your money with a Targus backpack. The old designs have those zippered compartments getting smaller and smaller and sticking out far from your back. This new design stays close to you with 3 main large compartments which hold a lot of little interior pockets, just like a good piece of luggage. This spacious backpack is very lightweight, yet holds 1520 pounds with no problem. The super padding really protects your laptop, as well as your back and shoulders. The limited lifetime warranty is also great, because in case of any defects, Targus makes sure you get your money's worth.

I had two of these (the second was a replacement from Amazon). The first lasted one month. The second, six months, and only because I was extra careful. It is a good looking backpack, but with serious design issues in my opinion. Both ragged at the same point -at the top, right above the front socket. The polyester of that section seems different than the material in the rest of the backpack. I think it is too thin to endure normal college use, not to mention the tension due to the weight of a 16 inch laptop or some books. I even think that the reason why the second backpack lasted "so long" was because I started to leave my laptop at home, but it is not what you are supposed to do if you buy a backpack allegedly designed for laptops.Want Targus Terra 16" Laptop Backpack Discount?
I've waited a few months since I got this backpack to see how it would hold up. It's not doing so well.This pack looks like it's designed to carry big, heavy laptops. It has plenty of space for them, but the straps and material aren't reinforced well enough to support the weight for very long. I've had it for less than six months, and I'm carrying a smaller (13") laptop in it, and the straps are starting to rip. It won't last much longer before I'll be scared to carry my expensive piece of technology in it.
If they're going to make space for a big heavy laptop, they need to make straps for its weight as well, and they haven't done so here.

Mobile Edge Premium Laptop Backpack- 17.3-Inch (Black/Navy)
I bought this backpack 5 months ago as a replacement for a Mobile Edge Premium Laptop Backpack that I have had for almost 8 years. I bought the original in 2004 for what was then my new Dell Laptop. The original has held up fabulously through all kinds of experiences. It has been on countless flights around the country, through camping trips, three motorcycle accidents, and I use it every single day back and forth to work. In March of this year, I was in a 50 MPH head on motorcycle accident; I rolled over the backpack with my 230 lbs, and the only damage was a broken plastic buckle everything inside was in perfect condition.The new backpack doesn't fare nearly as well. In 5 months, without any extreme circumstances (no motorcycle accidents, camping, etc.), the fabric inside the backpack has torn in two spots, the waist buckle has broken, and the light duty mesh on the outside front pockets has ripped. This is just from day to day use back and forth to work. The 1680 denier nylon outer skin has done well, which is to be expected. Everything else seems to be of inferior quality.
If the whole backpack were made of the same quality materials as the outer skin, it would be a great bag; it has many great features, it's comfortable, and it is roomy. As it stands, however, I will be looking elsewhere for my laptop backpacks from now on.
I recently bought a replacement plastic buckle for my original bag and have been using it instead of this new one. When it does eventually give up the ghost, I'll most likely look at a Sandpiper or Blackhawk bag that is built sturdier throughout.

my previous bag was a swiss that lasted maybe 4 years. this one seems better made, stiffer. you don't have to fasten the rain cover buts its nice to have. this thing would fit a 19" laptop if you had to, 17" has room leftover. the 2nd compartment though isn't very deep front to back. its more like the laptop compartment, tall wide but not too deep. I wish it was a bit deeper. the bottom back pocket works great for stuff like USB cables, drives and other bits, but I wish it was taller to hold some larger cables.very well made, should last a long time. had this 4-5 months and it still looks like new despite daily use including bike commuting I do while its nice outside... and even when its not quite nice :)

SLAPPA Kampus Duffle 18" Laptop Backpack
Having purchased the ASUS G73SW, which is a beefy laptop, I found myself looking for a better/bigger backpack than the black Republic of Gamers one that came with the computer. Finding a backpack that even FITS this computer was a challenge in itself, let alone one that has features/styling that I like. When I saw this backpack on Slappa's site, I was immediately in love with the design and colors. Obviously not a subtle design, this will turn some heads and get you some comments. Thankfully its not a bag that screams "I'm carrying a massive laptop", although being flashy it may attract unwanted attention all the same. I have owned this bag for a year now, and have flown with it, taken it on various long trips and day-to-day trips into the office.COMFORT/WEARABILITY I'm a big guy, so carrying around a heavy laptop along with power brick, etc. on my back doesn't faze me. This backpack is definitely comfortable. I like the strap design, and find it to be comfortable (not the BEST I've ever worn, but still good). It comes with a sternum strap, which is nice when you need it, but it definitely gets in the way when you're not using it. It also has a waist strap, which I rarely use, so it's always in the way. It would be nice if there were a way to remove the waist strap without simply cutting it off. The big cushy handprint that sits in the middle of your back while strange feeling at first eventually grows on you, and now I love it being there.
SPACE USEFULNESS Here is where I believe this backpack falls short for my particular needs. I was hoping for a backpack that had a bit more useful space. What you need to know is that this bag is very low-profile and doesn't extend off your back very far. It also opens only at the top, essentially making this like opening a duffel bag at one end. Once your laptop is in there, it can be easy to lose stuff at the bottom if you try to store a bunch of other things in there. There are only 6 pockets (not all of which are usable) 2 small ones inside (about the size of a smart phone), a mesh pouch inside the lid, 2 outside pockets on either side (which aren't even accessible really when you have a computer in the bag), and one larger one on the outside at the bottom. That's it. No pen pockets or organizers if you're a student and have a bunch of small items. Also the interior space just isn't all that big with a laptop in there. The laptop compartment literally takes up almost half of the internal space of this backpack. If you're going on a day trip and want to take your laptop and charger, a change or two of clothes and a few other small items, that's about all you'll be able to fit. I can barely even fit my DSLR (Canon 60D) down in there with the lens pointing down. It's pretty deep, just not very tall. Also, while I like the way the top closes (drawstring, flap over top with 2 clips), sometimes it isn't easy to get to your laptop quickly. And with the way that the straps/buckles that secure this top flap are designed, you have to be careful to make sure you always have the top flap secured or else you might lose the male end of the buckles (they slip right off the ends of the straps).
LAPTOP COMPARTMENT The laptop compartment is great. Nice thick padding and my G73 fits great in the 18" version that I have (there's actually a bit of room to spare, so sometimes I slide my tablet in there as well). I'd like to see a bit more padding on the bottom in case of accidental drops or setting the bag down hard, but I haven't had any issues in the past 12 months. I'm glad the top has a flap, because some bags don't, so if the bag gets turned upside down, out comes your laptop.
MATERALS/DURABILITY First of all, you will be surprised by how lightweight the material in this bag is. It looks kinda like the ripstop material that they use in BDUs or heavy-duty shorts. I was concerned at first about how long the bag was going to last considering how light it was and how heavy my laptop is, and while I wouldn't say I've treated it roughly, I certainly haven't babied it the last year and have had no issues with tears or seams coming apart. Really, the bag almost looks brand new aside from a few issues. I'm not certain, but I don't believe that the material is water-proof, so I wouldn't suggest exposing it to prolonged rain. I've run through the rain before without any issues. The laptop is pretty safe underneath multiple layers of fabric anyway. I believe Slappa sells a waterproof cover for cyclists. You'll have to check out their website. I like the drawstring design for the top of the bag, but this is easily the weakest part of the design. Within a few months, the elastic in my drawstring began to pull apart. It still works, but I think it won't be too long before the string gives way completely. And, the most annoying part of the bag for me... WHY IS THERE NO PADDING ON THE TOP HANDLE?!?! I know Slappa's other bags have padding here, and frankly, there's no reason for this bag not to have a padded handle except to save money. The silly strap handle that's on there works fine when you are carrying the bag by that for 5 seconds, but any longer than that and it gets really uncomfortable. I often find myself grabbing the bag my anything but that handle.
Overall, I think it's a great bag. I'd say it's really more of a 3.5 than a 4,but Amazon doesn't give that option. Your appreciation of this bag will largely depend on your expectations. If you're looking for a stylish, lightweight, comfortable bag to carry your behemoth laptop and not a whole lot else, then this bag might be perfect for you. If you need something that carries a bit more, I recommend checking out Slappa's MASK backpack, which has customizable front faces and the nice fast track feature for quicker screening of your laptop at airport security checkpoints. Also, Slappa has great customer service, so make sure you ask if you have any questions or concerns. I found them to be very helpful and courteous. My main concern when ordering this backpack was the size. I have a bulky laptop(asus g55vw) and it fits perfectly. It is way taller than I thought which is really good since I tend to travel occasionally so being able to bring all my stuff plus my laptop is great. The color of the backpack is as described(silver/black), I was expecting a more grey tone but it is definitely a nice shinny but subtle silver. It's an awesome bag for traveling and it's a really good bag even for hiking, camping etc. Just wish it could be a little bigger, both outside and the inside slot for the laptop, the laptop slot can't be closed if have a laptop sleeve on. Or maybe I'm asking for too much.

I've had this backpack three years. It has been on planes, in the rain, camping, the beach, the street, and on concrete. It still looks new. I have never had a backpack in my entire school career that did not start falling apart after a semester. But, this one by Targe is still shiny black and the straps have never torn, unlike other backpacks I have had. I love that it is extremely durable.The pocket system is great, as well: distributed among the main compartments of the backpack, there are picture-labeled pockets for specific electronic items. It was too good to be true, I thought, since I have been disappointed by so many backpacks in the past--but nothing of mine has ever fallen out of the pockets in 3 years and the pockets still look new. There is a pocket for your laptop, for your mouse, iPod, laptop cable, etc. It still has the ordinary pockets you find in most backpacks like, pencil and pen holders, and a few zippers for small items like a USB port or loose change.
I have never had a problem with the zippers or any aspect of this backpack, even when I nearly overstuffed it, which is often, considering my full class schedule, and I often carry multiple textbooks in addition to my 15" laptop, a sub, protein bars, and a change of clothes for the gym.
I think this company has thought of everything. The backpack is very comfortable to wear--easy on the back and shoulders. It has an umbrella holder. It has another thing as brilliant as the picture-labeled-pocket holders-if you are worried about the rain, which can happen on campus quite often, your laptop and books will always be safe, since it has a built in raincoat hidden in a zipper on the bottom of the backpack. You pull it out and just put it over the entire backpack. I use it whenever it rains and have never seen any trace of water seep through onto my possessions.
This product gets an A+++ from me. Couldn't be happier. I would never buy another brand again. I am now a faithful Targe customer, and I wholeheartedly recommend any product of theirs. This backpack deserves my MA as much as I do!

I ordered this for my friend's birthday and it arrived literally 2 days after ordering it. It looks great in person and is really cute. She loved it. Only downside is that it's not designed for everyday use at school because it doesn't support much weight for a long time as many other backpacks do. It's still a great backpack to go adventuring with!

I was amazed to find a full-size Thomas backpack for so cheap! It came just a few days after I ordered it. I really like that there is more room in this bag than the smaller Thomas backpack we have had for several years. It would be nice if it had another pouch on the outside to put small things in. Seems I always get caught at the office or driving when the rains start to pour. Given the price and reviews, I bought two of these -one for my office and one to tuck behind my rear windshield of the car. I seem to loose the small, collapsible kind, or they invert with a gust of wind, and this size is too hard to misplace or have someone walk off with. The handle is a "grippy" rubber and easy to hold and the umbrella opens quickly. The size is big enough to more than cover two people under it. I've had them in two torrential downpours, with gusty winds, and they were great. The quality to price ratio is high.

NYC wind and rain storms are brutal on umbrellas. This one holds up to strong gusts without feeling like it is going to bend or invert. I wish the handle would collapse so it could fit in a bag, but that is a small complaint. Excellent product

Vintage Canvas Flight Bag
This is a nice bag. It is tough and feels nice on my pack. I can place a water bottle in the front area where the yellow strip is. It is made with thick material that seems like it can take a beating and keep on ticking. I can pack it pretty full with books and some other items, though I wouldn't recommend a laptop in it, since there is no padding for it. The only complaint I have is the zippers on it. They are rather big and make a noise when walking, and there is no way to make them stop making noise, unless you don't zipper the bag. I say make the zippers out of a different material, or make them a little bit smaller, and it would be a perfect bag to just throw some things in and go on a short trip or a short hike.

I really like vintage things, so when i saw that there was a vintage military inspired backpack for 20 buck i jumped ate the buy. I don't regret it at all. great bag, really cute design. I am a college freshman, being a science major, i have to carry a lot of books around. this bag is perfect and it is not to big. Side pocket useless for more than chapstick and lighter
Zipper is noisy when you walk unless they are both at the top
No padding in back so you feel whatever is in it
