I had foot surgery and thought that having to haul around a purse while managing a knee scooter would be a pain so I bought this backpack. It is small enough to be easily managed and large enough to fit a lot of things in such as my Kindle Fire. It has well thought out pockets including a hidden one in the back for those hard to find things like car keys or cell phone. The leather is soft and buttery and the entire thing is well made. The back strap makes it easy to sling over a shoulder or unzip the zipper to divide the handle into 2 straps to make it into a backpack....I love it! Would like to get a navy blue one soon.Read Best Reviews of Le Donne Leather U-Zip Women's Sling/Back Pack Here

Overall, a great bag.I searched quite extensively to find the laptop bag that was high quality, and had enough room for the things I need to carry with my laptop with out being an overly huge bag.
This bag has a pocket for the laptop, a middle pocket with 3 internal sections and 2 smaller pockets, a smaller front pocket which has enough room for a kindle or other tablet, along with your pens and other smaller additions you may need. Lastly there are two small pockets on the front pocket face. One zips closed the other is open for dropping in items quickly. The back has a strap that attaches to you luggage handle and makes traveling an ease with one secure unit. All in all this bag is a great size and has an abundance of storage space crammed into it. It was obviously well designed to maximize functional space.
This bag makes me wish I had a 6th star to rate with!

The bag itself is great, perfect size and very light weight. The TSA laptop slot was a definite bonus! However, the strap makes an odd squeaking noise that I can't quite fix. Kind of annoying when walking through a quiet area.

As Samsonite is expensive in Asia, I got with good deal. This case has plenty of compartments and such for carry computer and accessories. I also thought that the style of the case was quite nice as well.

Piel Leather Top Flap Drawstring Backpack - Saddle
The front zippered compartment is great for receipts, club cards and prescriptions (both filled and script). It is easily accessable from the outside by just lifting the flap on top of the bag. But what I really like is the side back zippered compartment. It is a great place for keys. I can even just reach back and grab my keys without having to take the whole pack off.
The inside compartments are well done, with a nice back zippered pouch for small things, and places for several pens, a cell phone, and a PDA (although if you have a small phone it may be a bit big). The leather was a nice quality substantial without being heavy, and interior material seems heavy enough that it won't be tearing easily.
I will be using this bag for a long time to come.Love it! Perfect size for my wallet, kindle and small cosmetics bag. Back zippered pocket perfect for phone and keys.

The red is actually a bit orange-red, I prefer a deeper red. I would have liked more inside pockets and some elastic straps to hold small bottles. The outside pockets are perfect and well hidden, and easy to organize travel documents. I found the overall size too small for a carry-on for jewelry, medication, camera, iPad, phone & accompanying cords and accessories, a shawl, etc. And it seems slightly too large for shopping in foreign ports, perhaps this is due to the stiffness of the leather. Delivery was exactly as promised.Read Best Reviews of Piel Leather Top Flap Drawstring Backpack - Saddle Here

SLAPPA Kampus Duffle 18" Laptop Backpack
COMFORT/WEARABILITY I'm a big guy, so carrying around a heavy laptop along with power brick, etc. on my back doesn't faze me. This backpack is definitely comfortable. I like the strap design, and find it to be comfortable (not the BEST I've ever worn, but still good). It comes with a sternum strap, which is nice when you need it, but it definitely gets in the way when you're not using it. It also has a waist strap, which I rarely use, so it's always in the way. It would be nice if there were a way to remove the waist strap without simply cutting it off. The big cushy handprint that sits in the middle of your back while strange feeling at first eventually grows on you, and now I love it being there.
SPACE USEFULNESS Here is where I believe this backpack falls short for my particular needs. I was hoping for a backpack that had a bit more useful space. What you need to know is that this bag is very low-profile and doesn't extend off your back very far. It also opens only at the top, essentially making this like opening a duffel bag at one end. Once your laptop is in there, it can be easy to lose stuff at the bottom if you try to store a bunch of other things in there. There are only 6 pockets (not all of which are usable) 2 small ones inside (about the size of a smart phone), a mesh pouch inside the lid, 2 outside pockets on either side (which aren't even accessible really when you have a computer in the bag), and one larger one on the outside at the bottom. That's it. No pen pockets or organizers if you're a student and have a bunch of small items. Also the interior space just isn't all that big with a laptop in there. The laptop compartment literally takes up almost half of the internal space of this backpack. If you're going on a day trip and want to take your laptop and charger, a change or two of clothes and a few other small items, that's about all you'll be able to fit. I can barely even fit my DSLR (Canon 60D) down in there with the lens pointing down. It's pretty deep, just not very tall. Also, while I like the way the top closes (drawstring, flap over top with 2 clips), sometimes it isn't easy to get to your laptop quickly. And with the way that the straps/buckles that secure this top flap are designed, you have to be careful to make sure you always have the top flap secured or else you might lose the male end of the buckles (they slip right off the ends of the straps).
LAPTOP COMPARTMENT The laptop compartment is great. Nice thick padding and my G73 fits great in the 18" version that I have (there's actually a bit of room to spare, so sometimes I slide my tablet in there as well). I'd like to see a bit more padding on the bottom in case of accidental drops or setting the bag down hard, but I haven't had any issues in the past 12 months. I'm glad the top has a flap, because some bags don't, so if the bag gets turned upside down, out comes your laptop.
MATERALS/DURABILITY First of all, you will be surprised by how lightweight the material in this bag is. It looks kinda like the ripstop material that they use in BDUs or heavy-duty shorts. I was concerned at first about how long the bag was going to last considering how light it was and how heavy my laptop is, and while I wouldn't say I've treated it roughly, I certainly haven't babied it the last year and have had no issues with tears or seams coming apart. Really, the bag almost looks brand new aside from a few issues. I'm not certain, but I don't believe that the material is water-proof, so I wouldn't suggest exposing it to prolonged rain. I've run through the rain before without any issues. The laptop is pretty safe underneath multiple layers of fabric anyway. I believe Slappa sells a waterproof cover for cyclists. You'll have to check out their website. I like the drawstring design for the top of the bag, but this is easily the weakest part of the design. Within a few months, the elastic in my drawstring began to pull apart. It still works, but I think it won't be too long before the string gives way completely. And, the most annoying part of the bag for me... WHY IS THERE NO PADDING ON THE TOP HANDLE?!?! I know Slappa's other bags have padding here, and frankly, there's no reason for this bag not to have a padded handle except to save money. The silly strap handle that's on there works fine when you are carrying the bag by that for 5 seconds, but any longer than that and it gets really uncomfortable. I often find myself grabbing the bag my anything but that handle.
Overall, I think it's a great bag. I'd say it's really more of a 3.5 than a 4,but Amazon doesn't give that option. Your appreciation of this bag will largely depend on your expectations. If you're looking for a stylish, lightweight, comfortable bag to carry your behemoth laptop and not a whole lot else, then this bag might be perfect for you. If you need something that carries a bit more, I recommend checking out Slappa's MASK backpack, which has customizable front faces and the nice fast track feature for quicker screening of your laptop at airport security checkpoints. Also, Slappa has great customer service, so make sure you ask if you have any questions or concerns. I found them to be very helpful and courteous. And also, sign up for their newsletter so you can get a promo code before you buy.The bag feels well built and is roomy inside. I bought this for a Dell XPS 18. I contacted Slappa's customer service and I was told that this backpack will fit the computer. The computer does fit inside but the velcro flap for the computer compartment will not close I just wish that the flap was around 5 inches longer. I still give this five stars as it seems that there is really not much choice out there for an 18+ inch laptop/tablet as of this review. I'm keeping the XPS 18 with a sleeve in the bag for added protection. This is made in China.

My main concern when ordering this backpack was the size. I have a bulky laptop(asus g55vw) and it fits perfectly. It is way taller than I thought which is really good since I tend to travel occasionally so being able to bring all my stuff plus my laptop is great. The color of the backpack is as described(silver/black), I was expecting a more grey tone but it is definitely a nice shinny but subtle silver. If you like silver and need something big enough to carry your big laptop around, this will do great.Read Best Reviews of SLAPPA Kampus Duffle 18" Laptop Backpack Here
Great mag and hold my G75vx, power adapter, creative labs USB recon 3d sound card, razer tiamata 2.2 headphones, Nostromo gamepad, log itch g9 mouse, mouse pad. Still has room for more! The material it is made out of is kind of strange, kind of crinkly tarp type material. Its nice just different. It's an awesome bag for traveling and it's a really good bag even for hiking, camping etc. Just wish it could be a little bigger, both outside and the inside slot for the laptop, the laptop slot can't be closed if have a laptop sleeve on. Or maybe I'm asking for too much.
Ibex 17 Inch Notebook Backpack
If anyone can find the removable pouch, let me know.
Down to the proper review:
There's no point repeating all the great features mentioned by others. You've read the other reviews: you know all about the fact that it's pretty much the only bag guaranteed to fit the large 17" laptops. In fact Dell sell it on their website as a bag that fits their 17inchers.
Here's a feature no one else has mentioned so far: unlike the Columbia Cyberpack, it has a plastic [fake leather] waterproof base so u can confidently place it on a wet/messy floor.
Someone mentioned the zippers not having zipper flaps to stop rain getting in. But we all know that those flaps over the zips can be awkward. I'm looking at my bag right now and i can see that there are flaps BENEATH the zipper on each side. So for rain to get in, it would have to get thru the zipper then thru the flap/ribbing directly [like 3mm] underneath. It's hard to describe what it is but it is water proof material beneath each side of the zip that closes together like drawn curtains when the zip is zippered shut.
NOT MENTIONED B4:
One nice visual aid is that the zippers for the main compartment are noticeably bigger than the others.
Also there is an apparently flimsy handle at the back behind the main handle. It's to hang the empty/lightly filled bag up on a hook. It took me about a minute to work out what it was for. :O
btw: the main handle is totally over-engineered but gorgeous: it is a very soft plastic and fabric handle surrounding a a steel wire handle which is itself coated in plastic. It's one mean looking handle.
One thing, I've noticed is that one of the shoulder straps is loose around the length adjuster and i have to keep tightening it up or the one for the right shoulder keeps getting longer and longer. I'm thinking of stitching it into the desired position but because i go to the gym and have aspirations of getting an upper body like John Cena's, i fear that if i stitch the shoulder straps into the present desired position that when [not if ;)] i get huge it would no longer fit across my back and I'd have to unstitch the straps and readjust to fit around my hopefully huge back. As you can imagine: i hope i do encounter this problem. It would be a small price to pay for looking like John Cena. ;)
btw: In comparison with the Columbia Cyberpack [a laptop backpack for up to 15-Inchers], that i also own, it doesn't have the Cyberpack's reflective elements useful for when walking at night.
Perhaps the quick pocket [the red-lined pouch near the handle] should have been made of luminous material on it's inside [instead of the red lining] to help find things in the dark when outside. I suggest keeping a small torch inside the small pocket inside the quick pocket.
The organiser/organizer panel in the front compartment elicits mixed feelings:
Pros:
I has two slots for credit cards. Good
A good mesh pocket to hold a battery powered shaver.
A good pen holding pocket.
Cons:
It has three pockets. good. but they are on top of each other so if you use all three it cause a bit of a bulge in the front pocket.
Also, there is a clip for key rings but the thing it so short it's hard to find and a lot more awkward than what it should be.
I suggest buying the "Victorinox 1679500 Army Knife Swiss Champ" to fit in the organiser panel. It has a pocket to fit it.
SUMMARY OF POCKETS/COMPARTMENTS:
TEN EXTERNAL COMPARTMENTS/POCKETS:
U CAN SEE THEM FOR YOURSELVES. :) But you'd have to go on other websites. So here is a summary:
1: front compartment [contains organiser panel]
2: book compartment [directly behind front compartment]
3: main bag compartment [behind book compartment]
4: a top 'quick pocket' deep enough to fit an open hand in up to your wrist
5: laptop compartment
6: left mesh pocket [un-zippered]
7: right mesh pocket [un-zippered]
8: left diagonal side pocket
9: right diagonal side pocket
10: pocket on the left shoulder strap that is good for holding a small mobile phone, mp3 player etc. I find it very useful to put a bus ticket in.
ORGANISER PANEL [INSIDE FRONT COMPARTMENT][a group of small pockets for stationary etc]:
* LEFT POCKET: holds pens and has two slots for credit card sized cards
* CENTRE TRIPLE DECKER POCKET: three pockets on top of each other
* RIGHT MESH POCKET: large enough to hold a small shaver
* red zippered pocket behind the organiser panel
* hidden key ring clip [A SORT OF BAG EQUIVALENT OF A DVD EASTER EGG ;)]
FIVE INTERNAL POCKETS [THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH ORGANISER PANEL] [HIDDEN EXTRAS]:
1: zippered mesh pocket inside book compartment
2: document/magazine pocket inside the main compartment
3: small pocket inside the top 'quick pocket' near the handle. [with an exit for mp3 player head/earphones]
4: document pocket inside the laptop compartment [I SUGGEST NOT PUTTING TOO MUCH IN THERE COZ IT MIGHT PRESS AGAINST THE LAPTOP SCREEN-LID.]
5: small zippered mesh pocket inside top of laptop compartment. There are two problems I have had with notebook backpacks in the past. Number one was, that they say to be 17 inch compatible, but they actually do not fit larger than average 17 inch notebooks. Rest assured that this backpack will even fit the largest 17 inch laptops. I can fit the Dell XPS into it with no problems. The zipper line does not lie tensely over the corners of the notebook and does not create scratches.
Number two is the quality of the zippers. The zippers have to run smoothly, easily, and not come apart, split open, get stuck, or display other annoying dysfunctions. The zippers on this pack are of very good quality.
There is tons of auxiliary storage space. If I had a say in it, the shoulder straps could have a little more padding, but since it fits my large notebook, I will not deduct any stars this time.

This back pack is very good. Well made, sturdy for carrying all the weight. The two items missing that keep this from being a 5 star review are: no waist strap, With all this wieght in the pack this would help alot. 2nd is no rain flaps on the zippers. I am in Seattle and I am concerned over rain getting into the bag on the long daily commute.17.5 inch laptop (10lbs) 4lb power brick. plus lunch, note book, paper work, coffee thermos, Oracle manual, Reading book. Yep, alot fits in this while staying compact.

This Ibex backpack is the very best backpack on the market for a 17" laptop, but it's slightly disappointing when you compare it side-by-side with the 15" Synergy backpack from this VERY SAME COMPANY! I don't understand why Wengar Swiss Gear doesn't simply make a 17" version of the Synergy backpack?Right off the bat, I was disappointed to find out that this 17" backpack has FEWER POCKETS AND STORAGE COMPARTMENTS than the 15" backpack. How is that possible for a bag that's supposed to carry a LARGER laptop? My biggest disappointment, however, was that there is NO SMALL ZIPPER POCKET on the very front of the frontmost pocket. This pocket was so handy for quickly throwing in airplane tickets or itineraries or anything else that you need to grab quickly. Next, the zipper pockets on the 2 sides are absolutely tiny and can barely hold a pack of gum. Compare this with the 15" backpack, which has HUGE zipper pockets on the sides which stretch all the way down the side of the backpack... I used to store my digital camera and other big items in those side pockets.
However, after using this backpack for 2 years, I have grown to love it and I have yet to find any other backpacks that are BETTER than this one. So this is absolutely the best backpack on the market, but there's always room for improvement! :)

I'm ambivalent about this review. The pros are that this backpack has a lot of room and carries everything well.
The cons are signficant.
1) if you are a semi-muscular person, the shoulder straps could hurt. The one thing that other owners of this knapsack have commented on is that this problem could be solved if Wenger had just put cross strap that crosses in front of one's chest and connects the two shoulder straps.
2) one of the shoulder straps has a place for a cell phone. There are a couple of problems with it. First, it is way too narrow to fit a smartphone (e.g. an iPhone or a BlackBerry). It can only fit an old-fashioned cell phone (i.e. a non-smartphone). Second, the bottom of this cell phone holder is a major weak spot for the knapsack. It broke apart after a month. The worst thing is that I've seen this exact same problem on several different Wenger backpacks.
3) the other shoulder strap has completely fallen apart.
Wenger needs to redesign the shoulder straps for their backpacks. They have a great product otherwise, but since many people are carrying laptops in their backpacks, shoulder straps that break apart endanger laptops. In contrast, I've had an L.L. Bean backpack for 10 years and have put them same amount of stuff in it. The shoulder straps are still intact, however, the Wenger backpack has better aesthetics.
NOTE: I have to write an update. If you want absolutely great customer service, then Wenger is the company. I went to their website and found the email address for the Warranty Department. I sent an email and they responded within 30 minutes. They asked for some readily available information and a few pics of the problem. I sent it to them and they responded within 30 minutes that I needed to pay $10 for shipping and handling by PayPal. I did this and they again sent me a reply email within 30 minutes that a replacement backpack was going to be sent to me. I received it the very next day. I did not have to waste any time or energy sending back the defective backpack, and now I have a perfect knapsack again. Wow! Truly A+ customer service.
I'm still unsure about the quality of this item, but no other company I've ever dealt with has the customer service of Wenger. This company totally deserves its excellent reputation.
If this backpack holds up, then I will revise and give it far more stars.

I ordered this bag when hubby and I were going on a cruise as a woman I always over pack and normally I end up with 5-6 bags when traveling so I needed something that I could put everything into one. This bag is AWESOME. it held all of my clothes, shoes, cosmetics and souvenirs when we returned. I ordered my husband one of these too but his was lost in the mail and we did not have enough time ti get a replacement from Amazon before we left for the trip so I can not give you a review on packing it from a male perspective. Brenthaven 2071102 Expandable Trek Backpack for Notebooks / Ultrabook up to 15.6-Inch - Titanium
Until the zipper went out for the main compartment I would have rated it 4 or 5 stars for sure. But since the zipper went out its now nothing but a useless dud, so thus the 1-star rating. Bummer. And that was after very little use.
I contacted Brenthaven about having it repaired, and they've provided me a return authorization #, and asked me to ship the bag to them for repairs. Ok, I will, but it is an inconvenince, it costs money, and it takes time to get it fixed. It is something that should have never happened in what is billed as a quality product. After all, my Rick Steves cheapo backpack has gone through years of hard use with nary a problem, and it was only $15. Sigh.
UPDATE: I just received back 'my' backpack from Brenthaven, and I have to say that their customer service was superb. Not only was their turn-around time incredibly quick, they actually 'repaired' my bag by replacing it with the latest model. I'm impressed. I also noticed that the new version has much more rugged zippers, as well as a few new additional features. Way to go Brenthaven! Although the Amazon rating system doesn't allow for it, if I could I'd raise my rating to 4-stars based on Brenthaven's customer service(not 5-stars because I believe it shouldn't have failed to begin with).I purchased this bag as a replacement to the Swiss Gear Laptop backpack which I had for 7 years or so. The old Swiss Gear had plenty of space and was very functional and when loaded up wore, well on my shoulders. I searched for a new bag for several weeks, checking pics, reading reviews, and shopping in brick and mortar stores as well as online with ebags, Amazon and company websites.
What I carry:
I typically travel with 1 to 2 laptops, power units, Ipod, Ipod charger, Ipod battery backup, Headset (over the ear) cell phone & charger, work files, a book or two to read and one or two magazines, Foreign Affairs or Dwell, etc...I usually have a small bottle of advil and cough drops handy, also business cards, and pens, glasses, sunglasses, and small calculator. Lately, i have been bringing a small hard drive, and all the additional cables you may want to use with a laptop, (USB, firewire, etc...).
Bag review: The total bag construction is solid, and lighter than my old Swiss Gear. The bag has a main compartment, small fleece lined pocket, second expandable compartment, outside back lower compartment, 2 vertical zipper pockets (small), two outside zipper pockets on either side of the bag, and a small Ipod pocket on the top neckside of the bag.
Main compartment storage-> There are plenty of pockets to store all the little stuff in the main compartment but I wish the small compartments were mesh, so you could see everything, and also had a velcro closer so things do not spill out when the bag is thrown around in an airline cabin. This is also where you would store small files and books. The main compartment zipper opening is adequate, but the opening could be larger. The laptop protection sleeve is here and is superior to the Swiss Gear.
The small fleece lined zippered pocket is adequate but the real advantage here is the quick access. I wish it was 10% to 20% bigger. The second deep compartment is expandable. I use it for magazines, glass cases, small books, etc...It is useful and has good zipper access. The outside back lower compartment is where all your pens, calculator, cough drops, house keys, garage door remote ( i never leave mine in the car at the airport), business cards, and other small stuff go. I have adapted to using this very well and so will anyone.
There two vertical zippers pockets on either side of the lower back compartment and i have found useful for segmenting the Ipod cables and computer cables i always carry. The two left and right outside zipperd pockets are just large enough for the two computer power units. The two mesh water bottles on each of these are worthless and Brenthaven needs to re-design these. The small Ipod pocket on the top inside ( up by your neck area, where your back meets the pack) is a nice addition and you can run the small ear buds directly out of it to your ears while you hike or walk with the bag ( i do not use it but it is a nice feature for some).
I really like the way this pack wears on my shoulders and back. It has excellent ergonomics and is very comfortable when loaded down. I am 6' 1", 187lbs and simply do not feel sore after wearing this bag loaded down for some time. Overall this is a solid performing bag and hope to get years of use from it. The titanium and black color combination looks good too, it is a cross between business casual and urban survival. This is the second Brenthaven Trek backpack I purchased. The first was for my personal Mac Book. When it came time to purchase one for my work laptop it just seemed logical. It has storage galore. Plenty of little pockets for storing flash drives, mice, accessories and power supplies. In fact, when going on vacation I pack both my work and personal computer in one bag. There is plenty of room for both PLUS everything else and it fits nicely on the plane under the seat. This is an excellent backpack--it is very sturdy and well-built. I carry a huge book load to and from medical school and this backpack easily handles the 50+ pounds. The computer storage is safe and well-padded. The shoulder straps are very sturdy and very comfortable even with heavy weights. Zippers are all high quality. I would strongly recommend this backpack over pretty much anything I have ever had/seen before.I use this BP everyday in the field doing maintenance on wireless cell sites which includes working on Catalina Island.
The need for a BP that was:
Strong enough to hold all my items
Plenty of extra pockets for small test eq. items, misc. hand tools
Dependable top handle to use for hoisting the bag up ladders etc.
Professional looking too
So far I have had great success with this BP.
Items for concern are:
Too small of an opening for the front pocket. Needs to have a larger diameter.
Top pouch to be a little deeper.
Side mesh pockets to be taller and more flexible but still have a firm grip on water bottels, meters etc.
Booq Viper Hybrid Sleeve for 15-Inch MacBook Pro Retina - Gray (VC15-GRY)
I, like one of the other reviewers, use this for my Macbook Pro with Retina display. It's great for this, and it doesn't feel too big for my computer.
My only complaints are that it does not allow the MagSafe 2 power adapter to be in-use while it's plugged in. Older MagSafe adapters might work because of their rounded profile. It also inhibits the use of the ports while it is in-case. Not deal-breakers for me, but it does diminish the work-in capability for me.This is a killer case. I use it with my 15 inch retina macbook pro. This case looks great and gets a ton of compliments. Its really nice that this case allows you to use you computer without taking the laptop out of the bag. Ive had it for about two months, no complaints yet

Whatever this thing is made of smells horrible. Also, it is not custom made for the 15 in with retina. The packaging clearly says Macbook Pro only. There is minimal padding and it is a little too big for the retina.
