I had used this for a Hunting trip , was able to get everything I needed into it, great extension for a meat bag. Great straps, nice side pocket for a spotting scope. I had my bow with me works great holding everything together. Have not tried with a rifle yet, but has some nice straps to secure your rifle. It got banged up and did not rip or break. Worth every penny

I bought this pack as my hunting/bug out bag. This pack rocks. I have had it out several times this year hiking and scouting and even though I have a lot in it, it carries the weight great. There is plenty of room for a 72 hour bag. The Bow/Rifle straps work great for my Crossbow. For kicks and giggles i went to Dick's and Gander mountain trying to see how much they wanted for a comparable pack. I saw packs that were as much as $500 that do not come close to this pack. My wife has worn it when it was full on a family hike and she likes it also.

Finally got the daypack in and I'm very excited! Only reason for the 4 stars is because I haven't had a chance to use it out in the field yet. Definitely has lots of room and fits everything I need to take and some! Seems to be very sturdy and I can't feel the weight on my shoulders by how the weight is distributed, but won't really know until I have to haul meat on it. I would definitely recommend it for anyone. Only downside is that it isn't waterproof, but the pack does come with an orange blaze rain cover.

Osprey Men's Volt 60 Backpack

Ok, I have taken this on a few trips over the last month or so and this is what I think. The adjustable suspension and hip belt is pretty great it allows you to really customize the fit and get it just about as comfortable as possible. The hip belt is not structured it is soft and contours to your shape which I like. I find the heavier structured belts end up hurting my hips over long mileage. The straps are pretty plush too. Its hearty and made well and has that awesome Osprey guarantee. It's fairly light though it handles my 40 45 lbs load quite well. The compression straps keep the load close to your back which is good and the hip belt pockets are huge. Perfect for both a camera and a phone in one pocket and some snacks in the other. There are some bungees to hold your trekking poles but honestly I strap my poles to the side of my pack using the compression straps when I am not using them. The top pouch is very roomy. The under side of the top pouch also has a mesh pocket for things you might need quickly. I generally stuff my map in there along with a med kit. The main compartment isn't real fancy the only real frill is the sleeping bag compartment on the bottom which works well and has a hearty zipper. There are some straps over the sleeping pad compartment as well just in case you want to strap some tent poles or a sleeping pad to the outside there. There is some nylon webbing on both sides in case you want to strap or clip something to that. I like the the stretchy pouch out the back as well. It is great for stuffing rain gear or any other gear you want to get to quickly it comes in handy. This pack has 2 water bottle pouches but I haven't needed them to this point. I have been using a bladder in the pack and that has worked well.

Here is what it doesn't have that awesome airspeed back panel that keeps your back cool and sweat free. I think that is literally my only complaint. I guess that why I am taking away the 5th star.

That being said, for this price range you could do allot worse.

This is the perfect for a scout or any young person that is going to grow. It is super adjustable. Or if you are like me and just really want to customize your fit to make it as close to perfect as possible.

Over the next month I will be backpacking the Grand Canyon NP, Bryce Canyon NP and Zion NP. So I will do an update after I get a few more miles on it.

Bought the Volt 60 so my sons and I could share it by simply adjusting it. Liked it so much I bought a Volt 70 too. Have done some ruck runs with it and long hikes and camping trips. Friend bought one after trying it out.

Fits well. Packs well for two night trips -haven't gone longer yet.

Case Logic Canvas Backpack

In a sea of boring, corporate-America laptop bags, this attractive, simple-cut backpack spicily proclaims, "I am the new, young, hip generation of laptop carriers".

UNFORTUNATELY, attractive is not enough. Despite what the product description says, my 15.4" laptop (which is the exact dimensions specified above) literally SWIMS in the huge, gaping laptop sleeve in this backpack. While that's a plus for those who have larger notebooks, it simply wasn't what I was looking for. I will now have to purchase an additional neoprene laptop sleeve in order to cushion my 'book and keep it from sloshing about within the backpack's laptop section.

ALSO, there are unfortunately no slots in the bag for pens, pencils, cell phones, MP3 players, etc. There's one flat pocket up front (on the flap) with a vertical zipper, and a few larger, flat pockets behind the flap. That's it! I personally like organizing, and want to keep my pens tidily separate from receipts or pamphlets or whatever else.

All in all, the laptop backpack market is severely limited for those seeking an attractive, simple, and modern-but-not-corporate-work-horse looking bag. I would buy this product again, but only because the market is so limited.

IN CONCLUSION:

Pros: attractive backpack with a simple, subtle cut; comfortable shoulder straps

Cons: no pockets for smaller items (pens, phones, etc), lining feels cheap and thin, laptop sleeve doesn't appear to offer real protection for smaller laptops (15.4" and smaller).

I was looking for something to carry my 15.4" Hp that didn't look like a laptop bag. This works great, especially for the $35 that I paid for it. Yes, it is missing water bottle holders and organizational pockets. I will live. I can organize myself into 5 pockets and manage to carry my water in a sealed bottle.

I bought this backpack one year ago and wanted to use it well first before writing a review. After 12 months, here it comes: I absolutely love it. I take it to school everyday and on trips as my carry-on luggage. It is perfect for me. My laptop fits in nicely even when already packed in an extra cover. The bag has so much room in it and it is so sturdy. I got a green one (olive green) and it looks really nice. The straps are well cushioned and very comfortable, too. I have already carried tones of books in it but my shoulders never hurt. It has two pockets in the front with zippers which I use for pens, my wallet, etc. The only feature I miss in this backpack is an external bottle holder... it is a great buy.

Token Fulton Mini Bag

I had another bag similarly sized to hold a notepad, tablet, phone, wallet, etc... and it ended up falling apart. This was a replacement for that and I love it. I got this new backpack after I had tried the other one I previously reviewed which I found in a WalMart in Tennessee. It is very nice I have been complimented on it. These are made in China, and on the tag it says Global Design "New York" but is shipped from from Vernon, California at least mine was. So I think they may ship from New York too but not sure. They are made to be widely available.

I haven't yet had the chance to use it going through TSA at the airport but do anticipate it usually I have with me in the past a bookbag or a briefcase. While again I am not a big Disney fan (if at all) I am taken with the "Armed with charm" of the series this item is based on and the concept. I'm not superstitious but supernatural power has its allure. I'm going to sum it up by saying that I am very pleased with the item and would make sure to purchase this type item again. It will fit a laptop and a few books and whatever else I can put in it when I want to take a trip, I have alot of use for this in store. The colors compliment each other, blue/purple, blue/white. beatrix Big Kid Pack Percival Dino Backpack

This is a really cute backpack. However, it has several flaws.

1. Why on earth would you put a name label on the OUTSIDE of the pack?? Totally not a safe thing to do.

2. The straps need one of those chest straps to keep them in place.

3. It's awkward for the drink holders on the outside of the pack to have a top flap. Not sure what the point of that is.

4. While the stitching of the graphics look really nice, it's not going to be durable long-term.

There are better packs out there that still have the cute factor, have more features and will withstand the abuse that kids put their stuff through.

I purchased the Bunny version of this backpack for my full time Kindergartener in December to replace a novelty backpack that had already fallen apart with a broken zipper. The bag was adorable and my little girl loved it. Her lunchbox and folders fit perfectly. But by April, I was holding it together with 10 safety pins just hoping it would make it through the rest of the year. I was very disappointed. My girl is not rough on her things either she is the kid that places everything gently and keeps it all in good order. It only ever held her plastic lunch box, 2 folders and sometimes a library book. Considering this is sold as being for ages 5-10, I felt it should have lasted the entire school year.

Tumi Vapor Extended Trip Packing Case

The first time I used this luggage it looked like it had been through a cage full of gorillas. It dents and scars badly, I have used it 3 times and it appears to be 15 years old. Would NOT recommend this product.

The suite case is very light and nice the look is good but after 2 times of use it is full of scratches which makes it look like used for a long time.

If the TSA happens to open this lock they can can cause the combination to change. Which of course means when you reach your destination you can not get into your bag. My all time favorite piece of luggage! It's easy to stuff and still close. I bought this Tumi and traveled to Chicago and then onto London and Paris. It made the trip even more enjoyable. I wish they made a travel protector for it though, as it does get scratched up going through the conveyors for luggage. :(

Since getting the Tumi Vapor we have been over seas to Europe, Chicago and Maui.

These bags look fantastic and are very easy to wheel. The bag can easily tipped onto two wheels but the four wheel spinner is absolutely the way to roll in class. Timbuk2 Commute TSA-Friendly Messenger Bag

This review is for the medium sized version of the Commute 2012 (Amazon sometimes combines reviews)

This bag is the updated version of my first Timbuk2 bag, the Timbuk2 Commute 2.0 Laptop Messenger Bag and is intended to replace the older version. Building on the older version, Timbuk2 made a few refinements that would cause many to prefer this version over the older one.

As a part-time professional photographer, I wanted to carry my camera and a few lenses and flash (Nikon D300s, Nikon 17-35, Nikon 50mm, and Nikon SB-700) back and forth to my main job (office environment). I also needed to be able to carry associated work items such as files, pens, notepads, lunch, etc.... And, I wanted to be able to completely convert the bag between full photo use and straight up work and work travel use (more on that later). This bag, like the older version, is simply incredible in every regard. For perspective, I have owned bags from Lowe, Domke, Tenba, Crumpler, Swiss Gear, Think Tank, and nearly every other manufacturer, particularly those that make bags for photographers.

Every aspect of this bag, like its predecessor, exudes quality. Construction, durability, materials, all indicate this bag will last for many years even if abused. The zippers are among the highest quality I have used. The medium size of the bag was a perfect choice for me (I received it in Blackif that matters). Timbuk 2 bags seem to run larger and can be confusing at times. This bag is bigger than my previously owned Tenba Messenger Photo/Laptop Bag Small (Olive), which is actually the medium in the Tenba line (they have weird sizing as well). There is an abundance of organizational pockets, interior compartments, softpadded laptop compartment to fit a 14" (projected). I love having the large main compartment. The bottom outside of the bag is rubber coated and the swivel strap joints limit twisting of the strap. The area under the mainflap has a lot of storage/compartment space but for some reason, there are no quick access pockets on the exterior. When fully loaded, weight distribution is perfect and the carrying handle makes a world of difference for short jaunts. I did purchase the Timbuk2 Phoney Strap Pad (I believe it should have been included) to replace the OEM padded strap that came with the bag. In my opinion, it distributes the weight better while providing a place for my Iphone as well as a reflective surface. This bag could easily be used to pack everything for a 3 day weekend.

The newer version incorporates a Napoleon pocket with a zipper. Believe it or not, this feature adds a great deal of functionality to the bag and I sorely missed it on the older version. You can use it to store keys or items you may need to access while on the go, all without opening the bag flap. The newer version also modifies two pockets on the front of the bag (under the flap) with a special soft lining (very soft) that will hold any smartphone device and protect the screen. The inside of the bag also includes a pocket on each side that can hold a water bottle, or loose items, a feature I wish had bene included in the previous version that adds even greater organization.

USE AS A PHOTO GEAR BAG

Now, onto the photography aspect. By itself, the bag probably could be used for photo gear without an insert just as any other bag could. However, for adequate protection, you really need an insert. Thats where the Timbuk2 Snoop Camera Insert comes in. This is a removable insert that is self contained and is one of the better inserts I have used. Amazingly, it puts most Domke inserts to shame such as Domke Domke 720-250D Digital SLR Camera Insert (Green) and Domke 720-230 FA-230 3 Compartment Insert (Green). The Snoop Camera insert is made of very high quality materials, well structured, well padded, compact, has a handle, and can be zipped closed. The internal compartments are completely customizable and will fit a full size DSLR with a battery pack (rare for a messenger bag), 3 FX large lenses, an SB-700 (or 900), and a bunch of other gear such as remote cord, memory card wallet, spare batteries, etc... Even loaded, the bag is not that bulky (unlike my Tenba). The insert fits perfectly in the medium size Timbuk2 Commute 2.0 and you can still easily fit files or magazines around the bag or behind it. When I get to work and I need to carry mostly work stuff, I simply take out the insert, put it in my large desk drawer and go to meetings or whatever. If I want to travel for the weekend, I can leave the insert behind and just load the bag with travel gear (of course, I then need to carry a separate camera bag). Perfect Solution all around in my opinion.

This bag could easily be used for street photography. However, I still prefer my venerable Domke 700-02A F-2 Bag (Brown Waxwear Finish) for street shooting. This choice is more a matter of pure taste and not functionality (there us no direct camera access on the flap of either bag) and the Domke has less organization. Maybe I think I look like Nick Nolte in Under Fire [VHS].

Either waythis bag is pure winner, and even better than the older version (which was incredible).

As usual, I will edit review if anything changes.

I was absolutely positive this small-sized Timbuk2 case wouldn't hold my 15 inch MacBook Pro. The measurements on the page indicated that I had an eighth of an inch width to spare but that the computer was several eighths too tall. I was hoping that I'd at least be able to squeeze the computer inside.

My fears were laid to rest the moment the bag arrived. It's an excellent fit, neither loose nor tight, but just right, and the velcro strap that holds the computer firmly in its sleeve is adjustable and forgiving of my slightly tall computer. Most importantly, the case zippers up over the sleeve containing the computer without any problem or hesitation. I would guess most 15" PCs will easily fit this small (but quite large) bag, though you would definitely need the medium bag for a 17" laptop.

Of course, you could always put your larger computer in the main part of the bag, but the beauty of the sleeve is that the bag zips open to lie flat so you don't have to get your computer out in the airport security line. While I only fly a couple times a year, that perk alone is worth its weight in gold.

The rest of the bag is as well-constructed and luxurious as the company claims. There are padded compartments to slip an iPad or notebook in, which work great for cameras, camcorders and other electronics, or old-fashioned paper books. I especially like the flat divided pocket directly under the front flap because I can keep my phone or digital recorder and a compact camera in easy reach. (And while the reaching is easy, you're in no danger of losing anything because the big openings have both clasps and Velcro fasteners, while interior pockets are equipped with Velcro.) There's also a very room flat holder for pens and other office supplies and a net bag built into the interior side that can be used for most anything. I'm thinking I'll pop an apple into it more often than not.

There's a huge amount of room in the main compartment. I'm using this messenger bag in a few days when I fly as my carryon and have no doubt I can easily fit a change of clothes and important toiletries in it as well as the computer, cameras, notepads and books I'll be needing. Not only that, this will slide under the seat I don't like putting things in the overhead compartment.

On the outside, this is a beautiful, sleek bag with a pocket on one side to hold a bottle of water. There is a luggage pass-through so you don't have to carry it while pulling along a suitcase, but if you do, the removable, easy-to-adjust shoulder strap has a removable padded sleeve to save your shoulder. Without the strap, there's a built-in handle so you can carry it like a briefcase. It's comfortable as well.

From the fasteners that make snapping the shoulder strap off and on easier than I thought possible, to the feel of the zippers and the padded interiors, this bag is both elegant and imminently utilitarian. The company guarantees it and I can see why: I expect to use this bag daily for many years. It's absolutely the best I've ever had.

All I can say about the Timbuk2 Commute 2012 Messenger Bag is ......wow! OK, I can say a bit more:

This bag is fairly lightweight, yet very strong. I just took it on a trip and I packed it full of things, yet due to its design it still remained TSA compliant so I could lay it flat on the TSA inspection conveyor.

The bag comes in several colors; mine is basic black with black interior, and silver waterproof lining on the interior of the cover, and red interior in the laptop section. It is constructed of ballistic nylon, and weighs about 2.5 pounds. The bag measures 15.6" x 11.8" x 5.9" with a laptop section that is 14.4" x 9.4" x 1.6". The bag's bottom is also waterproof.

The shoulder strap is very comfortable and may be removed if you want to use this as a briefcase. It also doubles as an actual messenger strap, handy if you happen to be an actual bike messenger! Me, I just use the bag as a laptop/briefcase, and it's awesome.

The exterior has a top handle, two buckle straps and a pass-through for a luggage handle. It also has an outside compartment for a water bottle, etc. In addition to the buckles, the flap secures with velcro, while the laptop compartment closes with two zippers on the outside, while the padded interior secures with a velcro strap. The bottom of the luggage pass-through also secures with velcro to form a pocket for paperwork on the outside of the laptop compartment. Keep in mind to be TSA compliant, you must have NOTHING but the laptop in this side of the bag!

There are numerous internal compartments. On the laptop side, there is another interior compartment intended for an iPad (or two), which also secures with a velcro strap.

When you lift the flap, you will see several pockets on the front of the main compartment. Back to these in a minute. The bag's main compartment is a good size section, which include a pocket divider, as well as multiple pockets to hold wires, adapters, pens, or anything else you can fit in them. Each is a few inches wide and deep, and a couple have flaps that secure with velcro. There are also a couple of mesh pockets on each end of the compartment interior. For my trip I stored some paperwork, a notebook, boarding passes, several AC adapters, my laptop adapter, two shavers, two point and shoot cameras, some pens, along with my laptop in the laptop compartment and it wasn't not even half full. Now back to the front of the main compartment. This section contains an open pocket where you can fit something the size of your hand. In front of this is a zippered section with a red strap to hold keys. The zippered section is large enough to hold a man's large billfold. There are a couple of other pockets here, each big enough to hold eyeglasses, etc. There are also two areas lined with faux fur. These are very soft and perfect for glasses, or an iPhone. Also in this area is a rectangular pocket which zippers shut. This pocket is accessible even with the bag flap closed, as you can reach in from the side, unzip the compartment and access your items. It even has "vista" loops in case you actually use it as a messenger bag and want to attach bike lights.

This is not an inexpensive bag, but it really is just so well designed and durable, the price is easily justified. I really think this is the best bag I have ever used and I have had some good ones, including some from Targus, Eddie Bauer and a few others. And, oh yeah, it has a lifetime warranty too!

One note and it has nothing to do with the bag's design. Many airports will still make you remove your laptop from a bag even if its fully TSA compliant. I flew roundtrip between Newark and Orlando in July 2012. Newark TSA let me leave the laptop in the bag, but Orlando made me pull it from the bag. Same bag, packed the same way so keep in mind if you buy a TSA compliant bag, you may or may not find you can use it as hoped. That's no reflection on the bag.

So, if you want a really well made bag this should be among your short list.

This is my first foray into the world of Timbuk2, and I have to say that I am impressed. Yeah, its just a bag, but many of us use bags like these everyday. Having one that is convenient, comfortable, durable, and professional is very important. I am happy to say this bag not only fits all these criteria, but excels in each.

The nylon is extremely tough. I haven't been dragging mine across gravel, but I think that you probably could without doing much damage. It has a nice texture that repels water well. I find I don't have to worry about where I set my bag down because I know the nylon is tough and weatherproof enough to withstand anything I encounter in the course of the day.

The bag is very roomy. I have the medium size, and it is large enough to fit a 15" laptop, an ipad, a couple of large textbooks, a few other miscellaneous items (blood pressure cuff, etc.) and many small odds and ends. If you have a very large 15" laptop with an extended battery that pokes up, it may not fit in the dedicated laptop section and will have to be placed in the main compartment. I haven't seen other sizes, but I would think the medium would be sufficient for most people. It fits comfortably across my shoulder (I am a thin, 6 ft male) and doesn't feel too big across my body.

It has a couple of small zipper pocket, including the napoleon pocket which can be accessed under the flap without undoing the buckle. I like how one of the small zipper pockets has the red timbuk2 key ribbon, so keys can be used and stored without un-clipping them from the bag (for doors, not cars of course). This is great for me, as I have a tendency to misplace my keys.

The shoulder pad that comes with the bag is a little lacking. It's not uncomfortable, but for long periods with my bag I would like some more padding. I have heard that the deluxe shoulder strap pad that timbuk2 sells for $15 is a worthwhile investment. I will order that item and update this review when it comes.

This bag, unlike the Timbuk2 command, does not come with velcro silencers. These can be ordered for $3 directly from Timbuk2. I ordered the silencers so that when I open the flap during class there isn't a loud velcro sound. The velcro and buckles are redundant for closing the flap. This is useful for those who want extra security, but not necessary most of the time.

This bag is quite similar to the command line of bags. the command line has a slightly different look, and has a differently oriented laptop compartment. My friend has the command, and honestly they are similar enough that I don't think you could go wrong with either one. The command has metal hooks to keep the flap closed instead of buckles. This is supposedly quieter (though the buckles are easy to open and close silently), but command's the metal hooks don't stay closed nearly as well and sometimes flap loose. Overall, order either one with confidence.

This bag comes with a lifetime guarantee against manufacturing defects from Timbuk2. From what I've heard, they have great customer support, but I have not yet dealt with them personally.

I haven't found any negatives with this bag yet, but if I do I will update this review.

I bought this bag about 1 year ago on sale from Amazon, and I can proudly say that it is one of the best purchases I have ever made. The bag still looks brand new despite the massive amount of punishment I've put it through. It isn't even fraying at the edges.

I've put this bag down in puddles, carried it in storms with my iPad in the laptop sleeve, and taken it on trips. It is definitely TSA approved, no need to take the laptop/tablet out.

PROS:

Well-thought-out details (such as an extra strip of soft velcro inside the laptop compartment, so that when you open to velcro strap and it falls back down, it doesn't land of the felt lining and fray it)

TONS of pockets that are expertly laid out

Key ribbon. I use this all the time. I'm terrible at keeping track of my keys, so I leave them attached to my bag. It's the perfect length, you can use the keys to unlock doors and the like without any inconvenience.

CONS:

The water bottle holder is not very convenient, as you have to bring the bag to the front to get at it because of the side it is on.

Size. I bought a small, which is generally okay, except I have found myself wishing for more storage on plenty of occasions. I should have just bucked up and got the medium for an extra $15 or so

The strap pad that comes with the bag is a little thin. I had read plenty of other reviews and bought the extra-padded one that Timbuk2 sells and it was worth it. Especially when the bag is completely full.

TL;DR: Lots of great features and sturdy construction make this well worth the price, but get at least a Medium size and buy the extra thick add-on strap pad.

This backpack is quite basic and functional, but it does not have a locking mechanism per se. All closures lock onto each other, but can be easily un-clipped by anyone. That said, it performs well, holds up well, is not a fashion statement, but can hold all the basic necessities. I wouldn't risk wearing it on my back though, especially in the crowd.

Dakine 26-Litre Central Pack

Very satisfied with this backpack. It's actually the second one I've purchased, having found the first one so useful. Sturdy, good size, excellent for carrying swim gear, clothes, equipment for work, etc., so I got another one. So far, both of them have stood up well with the various activities for which I use them. I actually really this case and had no use for the handles, but I have to speak up about it. The handles are on the inside of the zipper. So to carry the case you have to zip each side zipper up to either side of the handles. I have no Idea how they got both zipper things on one side and the handles showing in the picture at the same time.

It seems this comes with a reference guide before you order it though. This is the first time i'm noticing it. I may just cut the handles out.

Otherwise, I like the sleeve.

I bought this as a gift for my sister to use with her 15" mac book pro. she uses it on a weekly basis and does a good job of protecting without being bulky.

Incase Alloy Backpack (Steel)

The Incase alloy backpack is an awesome looking bag with a futuristic, chromatic look and feel to it. It has several slots and little pockets hidden within the smaller front compartment for writing tools, cords/cables, zip drives etc. The main compartment also has two slots for a tablet and up to 17'' laptop. The back is padded quite well and it also provides for great security to laptop/tablet slots inside the pack. There are two faux-fur lined pockets at the top of the pack and one on the front and they are well designed to hold small valuables and electronics while still keeping them accessible while the pack is on. It is incredibly sturdy and the design quality shows over time. I get comments on it all the time so it attracts eyes.

Obviously I am content with it however I do have one complaint about it. The shape of the pack makes it wider towards the top of the pack which leaves for a smaller footprint, meaning if you sent the back down, on its bottom...it WILL topple over. It must be braced up against something and given the slick nature of the 'alloy' outer, it slides very easily leaving it flat on the floor. Again, this is a small issue but I've never noticed this effect so pronounced on a backpack.

But in summary, its a cool looking, functional bag that turns heads and does its job.

I couldn't believe the price for this top-of-the-line backpack for hauling all of my computer stuff. I was skeptical but seeing as how Amazon has never steered me wrong before, I placed the order. Half-expecting a "bait and switch" with a less capacious backpack or one with different materials (I ordered the crumpled nylon fabric called "Alloy" to match the same finish macbook pro sleeve I already owned), I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was indeed a new incase backpack just like advertised but at a lower price than anywhere else by a wide margin. Kudos to this seller and to Amazon for a quick and fulfilling buying experience without hoopla or hassles.

The backpack is currently housing my macbook pro 15" with Retina Display in its luxurious faux-fur lined but breathable padded compartment with enough room left over for my Bamboo graphics tablet in the same slot. The sleeve holds my iPad along with several file folders worth of documents and keeps them all nice and straight (no folding or crumpling of my documents). At the bottom of the backpack is a convenient hollow space for bulkier items like headphones, books and harddrives and you don't have to worry about squishing them to pieces 'cause the computer and iPad and other accessories are suspended above it nicely. The second zipper houses a functional utility area with mesh pockets that snuggly hold my external optical drive (my new Retina MB Pro purged it in its bulemic slimming down), an external 300 GB hard drive, my magic mouse, a folding bluetooth keyboard, rechargeable batteries, an LED flashlight, an Apple remote, pens, CDs, and business cards. Again, there is a hollow area towards the bottom of this section that can hold other sundry stuff. Three smaller utility pockets are included in the minimalist outer design and are great for small stuff like iPhone, keys, wallets, sticky pads, pens, paperclips, iPods, remotes, utility knives, etc.. One of these pockets is conveniently and surreptitiously hidden in the padding for your back--a great place to stow wallets and other valuables. The pack itself is breathable and super-light though sturdy. The straps are beefy, breathable and distribute the considerable weight of all the stuff I have piled in there comfortably and securely.

I absolutely love this pack from incase and it is now the favored conveyance for all of my stuff. I have a cool Zero-Halliburton attache case that matches all of my Apple swag, but it isn't nearly as capable and comfortable as this backpack (I always have to carry another bag with all of the overflow stuff). Oh, and the incase backpack looks minimalist modern cool while the Hallliburton case makes me look like I should be carrying $100,000 in cash or a bomb--not the kind of vibe you want to be putting out. The design philosophy is on par with Apple's but as utilitarian as an SUV. It's a perfect marriage of uncompromising form and excellent function.

I ordered this bag for my son to carry around his own water bottle and snacks while on our trip to Disney. It is the perfect size without being to bulky. It was large enough to hold a small lunch box, a water bottle, a small (99 cents) first aid box, and an emergency poncho.

This is actually a very sturdy, comfortable, and attractive bag. I think it is also quite rainproof, although it was only exposed to light rain on a couple of occasions--and everything inside stayed dry. I bought it for an overseas trip during which I'd be riding a bike. I figured that at this price, I could just give it away or discard it at the end of the trip. Kata KT D-3N1-10 Sling/Backpack (Black)

The Kata 3-in-1 model 10 replaces the Lowepro Slingshot 100 that that got handed off to my daughter. (OK, I admit to being a camera backpack junkie.) Kata's configuration assumes you'll insert the camera & lens ito the bottom section, through one of the handy side flaps. A spare lens or two would fit into the spaces left in the middle section and you could put other stuff (or your lunch) in the top section. That would be OK for Canon Rebels, Nikon D40/D60 etc. But I have a Canon 5D a mid-sized SLR. With a wide-angle lens and a moderate telephoto the interior configuration as shipped is a bit of a squeeze. The Kata comes in three versions. The Model 10 is about one inch smaller all around that the model 20, and I probably should have purchased the Model 20.

It's possible to reconfigure the interior, use the top section for a mid-sized SLR and put lenses and other accessories in the middle section. That makes it a bit harder to access the camera when you use it as a slingpack, but a whole lot easier to get at the lenses. And you just have to carry your lunch someplace else ;-)

Reconfiguring the interior is easy enough, but it's not quite as flexible as the interior of some larger Kata models, or as flexible as the Lowepro "Slingshot" models. So consider the Kata 3-in-1 Model 20 if you have a medium-sized SLR.

The construction quality and comfort are strong suits. I used the Kata for long hikes on two successive days and it was very comfortable -more so than the Lowepro Slingshot. It's built very well, with heavy duty zippers and snap closures and excellent padded straps. The interior padding is excellent and there are some small zippered pockets for small items. It comes with a nylon rain cover that fits into its own bag and that worked well one day when the snow turned to rain in Boston.

The design allows you to use it as a backpack or sling pack and switch modes easily. It was easy enough to get access to the gear by setting it up as a regular backpack and them releasing one of ths backpack straps and pulling it around my side to get into it, and it's designed specifically to be used that way if you prefer.

So: Excellent build quality; very comfortable on a hike or just around town; good design for a small SLR & accessories; not quite so good for a Nikin D80/90/300/ or Canon 20/30/40/50/5D. But look at the Kata 3-in-1 Model 20 for those cameras.

Great bag. Well constructed with a quality feel to it. Feels like it is really protective for my gear very strong, semi-rigid material. Compact size, but still fits in my D90, 18-105mm, 50mm, Lensbaby 3G, SB600 flash and spare batteries. Nice quick access panel on either side too. Lots of cool touches. Best of all for me.... no velcro fasteners, just zippers or clasps, perfect!

I bought my first DSLR and lenses with it. Since I transitioned from SLR like point and shoot camera to DSLR I was not used to huge backpack cases and I never imagined myself getting one of those professional DSLR cases because they look so bulky and inconvenient to carry. So I bought USA Gear compact bag that can carry two lenses and a DSLR. However, I quickly realized that this bag though looked compact in the picture was not exactly that compact. What I mean is if I consider its volume it was bulky enough in a way. Plus the amount of protection it provided was not enough for my expensive DSLR and lenses. Above all I realized that I needed to pack a little more stuff in my bag and this bag was (contrary to my original statement :) ) turning out to be not big enough to carry it all. In short, I was looking for a "Sweet Spot" for a compact enough bag that is easy to carry and gave me confidence to carry my equipment securely. After fair amount of research, I settled on Kata 3N1-10.

Things you should consider 3N1-10 for:

-If you want to carry a compact DSLR along with maximum two lenses (in addition to a lens attached to camera) and accessories in order to not make it too bulky.

-Great quality, durable construction.

-Very versatile as it can be used as a backpack, sling on either arms (works for both left and right handed person).

-This bag when carried like a sling can be brought forward easily to quickly remove the camera and take that important shot. Interestingly in that position it even provides you enough support to rest your elbow on something while supporting your camera lens!

-Comes with water proof cover for a rare downpour, if you experience any.

-This bag has a strap to tie along your waist. This is really useful when you are out walking for longer durations as it distributes the weight uniformly on your body.

-The form factor (shape & size) is really unique and makes it look slimmer and practically manageable. Does not feel bulky at all on you.

-Has convenient pockets very cleverly located to hide your lens covers and other small accessories that you may want to have access to every now and then while you are on the go.

-Has right sized padded pockets where your SD cards "snug-fit" in a secure manner.

-Bag has enough cushion material that makes me feel confident about protection it provides to anything I carry in it.

-Has Velcro based cushy pads inside that are movable and adjustable anyway you want. So main compartment of your bag can be divided into the sections you want making it very flexible to organize your content. This way you are not limited to carry items the way bag wants you to carry them.

-Comes with lifetime warranty (for lifetime warranty you have to register it on their website. registration converts their default limited warranty to lifetime warranty).

You may not want to consider 3N1-10 if:

-You are looking for truly sub-compact bag to carry just your DSLR with one lens attached to it.

-You want to carry your DSLR+laptop OR DSLR w/ lens + 3 more lenses OR DSLR with 2 lenses + tripod. This bag does not have ability to carry tripod. That is a feature available in 3N1-20 and 3N1-30. Its not big enough to house your laptop OR your third extra lens.

To give you an idea about its capacity, let me tell you what's in my bag. I carry following very comfortably with some room left to carry one more compact lens and a few accessories:

-D3100 + 18-200 mm lens (w/ 72 mm filter on top) attached to camera.

-Extra 35 mm DX lens and its 55 mm filter.

-Both filter cases.

-Extra Nikon battery and a charger.

-Two SD Cards both with their cases.

I have to say, this back pack looks amazing. It looks like a prop from a futuristic movie. Great style, very comfortable and did I mention it looks good? There is plenty of padding so if you drop your bag, your gear should be safe. Can be easily pulled around front to grab your camera. I have in this bag: Samsung HD camcorder and two batteries plus charger. Two lenses for my D60 and the body itself. 4 secure digital cards, 3 batteries for the D60 and its charger and cleaning supplies. And this is the small version of the bag. Sierra Designs Ministry 40 Backpack

Just bought this pack for about $70 including shipping. Appears to be good quality, and well thought out.

I haven't had a chance to use it, but I will definitely update when I do.

In purchasing the pack I was looking for a backcounty skiing addition. All of the features spoken about the item were correct, although I found when the pack was loaded up with my gear that it was too large. The height of the pack extended up behind my head, possible interferring with a future ski helmet. Amazon was very good about accepting the return.
