Korchmar MARSHALL Vertical Top Zip Computer Case

I travel about 75% of my time through the year. I'm in and out of Domestic and International airports many times and many times crashing on the airport floor and yes using this bag as a pillow(for obvious reasons). I state this to give you a sense of how much this bag gets used. I usually go through bags every 2 years for various reasons; bored, poor quality, broken. I've had them all TUMI, Brenthaven, Samsonite, Targus... All good quality. But why five stars for Korchmar. I rarely give five stars. Every case you buy will have some problem either early or in the future. The weighing factor in selecting a product is always customer service. That is why the five stars. I must say they have one of the best customer service departments I've had the pleasure of receiving service. I first had a problem with the front flap buckles. Pulling my bag from under the seat of the plane always dislodge at least one of these buckles. I did some research and discovered this was a defect and contacted Korchmar. Within hours, I received a response to my email. I had to send a picture of the buckle. Within a week of receiving my email, my buckles arrived. No more issues. Then last week the buckle on the strap broke. Again sent an email with a picture and within hours received a response stating that my new strap was on its way upon confirmation of mailing address. This is why I give this product five stars...

BTW: My dog chewed the canvas flaps on the side pockets. I had a leather smith custom build a new leather flap for both sides. Still makes the bag look great. I've had people on the plane compliment me on the bag and ask who makes the bag.

Officially Licensed GM Cadillac Backpack

I love this backpack. Aside from matching my white cadillac truck perfectly, it is quilted and very comfortable. It is a very classy looking backpack.

Don't know how long this backpack will last yet, and it looks good, but I didn't know it has such a thick lining. I bought it specifically for my trip to the South. This one will definitely make my back sweat. I wish there was a way to see the material closer online before buying this fall/winter item.

ClaireChase Rolling Computer Brief

I bought this bag in the café color. I am a seasoned traveler. I have taken this bag on a total 13 domestic and international flights for this review. My goal was to find an alternative to my leather catalog case for something that rolls, holds a laptop, has space for other stuff and looks small enough to avoid arguments with gate agents about bringing it on-board.

Out of the box it looks nice. It is a little heavier than I thought, but it's not bad. It included a removable laptop sleeve, but I don't use it. The padding and protection is more than adequate. Even the front zippered pockets have padding. I pack this bag full. I found the document compartment adequate, but it holds less than what the photo may indicate. With all the pockets full there is a tendency for the bag to tip over toward the front, but it's not that bad. Just be careful.

The bag looks nice, but I found some of the features working against me. I value things others may not though. The leather, although really nice, is soft and tends to stick to hard surfaces. For example it does not slide onto the rollers before the x-ray machine, or sliding it over in the overhead aircraft bin. During one flight it was in the overhead bin in such a way that was preventing the bin from being closed. The attempts of the flight attendant actually scraped off some of the leather because it was sticking to the plastic in the bin. I haven't seen artificial bag material do this.

My biggest annoyance is the telescoping handle. Yes, it is long enough and strong enough, but the handle part you actually hold at the top is terrible. It has these semi-hard ribs that dig into my hand like dull knives. Not only that, but there is a plastic seam along the edge that also scrapes into my hand. So it is impossible to get a comfortable grip on it. After my first two flights I thought I was going to get a blister. I mean the design is really terrible. I actually considered returning the bag just because of it. The designers probably thought it would be a better grip, but they failed. I actually hold onto the bag with as light a grip as possible now so I don't get blisters. Don't be surprised if your fingers at least turn red. I might wrap electrical tape around it. Next time I hope the designers weigh the bad down and walk around an airport for a day for testing.

I found the two leather carry handles uncomfortable also. They are strong enough, but they are fairly hard and curved, so they bend your fingers back in a curved shape. Not a great feeling if you have 15-20 pounds you are carrying.

I have had no trouble with the wheels. It has rollerblade wheels so it shouldn't be difficult to replace them if necessary. They roll smoothly and quietly.

There is a leather strap thing on the back of the bag so you can slip it over the handle of another rolling bag. This strap is leather, but is attached to the bag with elastic, so it holds on pretty well. The only problem with this strap is that the bottom of it catches on escalator steps. Every time I walk onto an escalator the stairs move up out of the floor, catch on this strap thing and lift the bag up. Very annoying. It is also starting to rip a little bit. Of course you may just be careful on how you enter the escalator, which is what I now have to do with this bag.

Overall it is a nice bag, but the handle issues really leave me disappointed. This bag may be more suited to you if you don't travel frequently. If I could go back in time, would I still buy this bag? I don't know. If you asked me after the first few flights, no I would not. Now, maybe it has grown on me a little more. It just annoys me that I paid this much money to have to put up with poor handle designs, which is the one part of a bag you are constantly dealing with.

This rollng brief case was a gift for my wife who is an attorney. The case is made with great detail and the finish simply beautiful. This is a first class item that can be used for courtroom work and airline travel as well.

Case Logic Canvas Backpack

In a sea of boring, corporate-America laptop bags, this attractive, simple-cut backpack spicily proclaims, "I am the new, young, hip generation of laptop carriers".

UNFORTUNATELY, attractive is not enough. Despite what the product description says, my 15.4" laptop (which is the exact dimensions specified above) literally SWIMS in the huge, gaping laptop sleeve in this backpack. While that's a plus for those who have larger notebooks, it simply wasn't what I was looking for. I will now have to purchase an additional neoprene laptop sleeve in order to cushion my 'book and keep it from sloshing about within the backpack's laptop section.

ALSO, there are unfortunately no slots in the bag for pens, pencils, cell phones, MP3 players, etc. There's one flat pocket up front (on the flap) with a vertical zipper, and a few larger, flat pockets behind the flap. That's it! I personally like organizing, and want to keep my pens tidily separate from receipts or pamphlets or whatever else.

All in all, the laptop backpack market is severely limited for those seeking an attractive, simple, and modern-but-not-corporate-work-horse looking bag. I would buy this product again, but only because the market is so limited.

IN CONCLUSION:

Pros: attractive backpack with a simple, subtle cut; comfortable shoulder straps

Cons: no pockets for smaller items (pens, phones, etc), lining feels cheap and thin, laptop sleeve doesn't appear to offer real protection for smaller laptops (15.4" and smaller).

I was looking for something to carry my 15.4" Hp that didn't look like a laptop bag. This works great, especially for the $35 that I paid for it. Yes, it is missing water bottle holders and organizational pockets. I will live. I can organize myself into 5 pockets and manage to carry my water in a sealed bottle.

I bought this backpack one year ago and wanted to use it well first before writing a review. After 12 months, here it comes: I absolutely love it. I take it to school everyday and on trips as my carry-on luggage. It is perfect for me. My laptop fits in nicely even when already packed in an extra cover. The bag has so much room in it and it is so sturdy. I got a green one (olive green) and it looks really nice. The straps are well cushioned and very comfortable, too. I have already carried tones of books in it but my shoulders never hurt. It has two pockets in the front with zippers which I use for pens, my wallet, etc. The only feature I miss in this backpack is an external bottle holder... it is a great buy.

The North Face Rolling Thunder Medium

I've been through every type and price point of luggage imaginable. I travel frequently and my trips are often to several climates and for at least a week at a time. Additionally, at least half my trips are international.

This particular item: the North Face Rolling Thunder Medium size duffle in electric blue is ideal for me! In fact, it is so good that I ordered a second piece from the seller!

One of the primary advantages is that when resting this duffle in an upright position, it will not tip over. Neither will it do a curly-que turnaround as you are pulling it. Packing is SO easy because I am an experienced packer and use the packing blocks...this is easy open, easy close.

Usually I put garrish yellow day glo duct tape on my baggage to differentiate it when it comes off the plane...I have not yet decided if I need to do this with the electric blue yet or not.

It is lightweight (as compared to other duffles that roll), easy to handle, sturdy in construction and reasonably priced. At this point, I am absolutely delighted with my purchase and look forward to the delivery of at least one additional piece prior to a four week trip in July.

Samsonite Wheeled Backpack

The material is sturdy and the color was truly how it looked on Amazon; however, Samsonite needs to take a couple of lesson from Jansport on how to build an adequate wheeled backpack, especially for students who intend to use it everyday. My 2 complaints are as follows: one, the traction on the wheels needs improvement.The backpack makes alot of noise when rolled and it is not a smooth glide as I had with my trusty Jansport and two, there should be one large compartment instead of one medium and one small. I wish that Jansport still made there wheeled backpacks like they use too...oh well....

Whoops! Samsonite's warehouse sent me the wrong color at first. To make matters worse, they sent me the girly purple color they had been trying to sell for cheaper than my color.

Amazon recommended that I start by calling Samsonite's customer service. I did, and of course they helpfully suggested that I call Amazon. But I stayed on and explained my situation, and they located the mistake in their own records and apologized for sending the wrong thing.

Unfortunately, this first call resulted in being promised a replacement that never got shipped, and being promised a confirmation e-mail of the return that never got sent. And after a week of waiting, I got an e-mail that was worded as if the first call to Samsonite had never happened, telling me that this is Amazon's problem to take care of.

I e-mailed them back with a detailed explanation of all the (mis)communication that had taken place so far and they apologized for putting me through the run-around, sent the correct one, and most importantly, promised to streamline their communication with Amazon.

Overall everyone was very friendly on the phone, I am happy with my product now. No more hassle to go through now.

About the bag itself:

I use the bag to carry a heavy laptop and school materials to and around campus and it's definitely up to the task.

It seems durable and well made; nothing's out of whack so far even though I've used it a lot. I got to try two of them, and there weren't any obvious manufacturing differences so quality control seems to be ok.

The backpack is indeed a little noisy over cobblestone and sidewalk cracks, but completely silent at all other times.

The handle only has one length setting and I'm not so sure about that. I was surprised it's not longer; I'm very short and it seems just the right height for me.

When you're picking up the backpack for a curb or stairway, you have to bend down and pick it up by the strap; you cannot safely pick it up by the metal handle. I can tell it's not strong enough for that. The handle's clearly designed to only take force in one direction; putting any diagonal force on it tends to tweak it out of where it's attached. Secondly, it's designed for an amount of force equal to pulling the backpack while it's on the ground, not pulling the whole weight of the full backpack into the air. If you're buying this for a kid, of course they're going to yank it by handle anyway, so it won't last as long.

I found the straps to be adequate even though they're not as padded as you'd get out of a regular backpack.

For going up several flights of stairs you may want to switch to the straps, but this is hindered a bit by how the zippers for uncovering the straps get caught. Since I was able to try out two of these backpacks, I can say that both of them had this problem with that zipper. I learned that the problem is not the zipper itself; it's actually getting caught in a triangular flap where the straps mount. This is sort of a design flaw. To get around it, you have to pull the zipper an inch up and then down again until it gets past that point and lets the straps come fully out.

About the "rolling backpack experience" in general:

I was actually slightly underwhelmed with the savings in physical effort required by a rolling backpack vs. a normal one. It's not effortless; you do have to hold your arm and shoulder in an unnatural position and apply a bit of constant force (on anything but a downhill), which could lead to the same type of shoulder strain / repetitive stress soreness of regular backpacks, which I was trying to get away from. Just less of it, maybe.

Also, whenever you get to any sort of curb or stairway (which turn out to be much more common than you would notice with a regular backpack), you usually have to bend down to pick the full weight of the backpack up (if you try to skip this step in a hurry, you risk the wheels skipping off the ground, spinning the backpack around until you fix it). Bending down and picking it up by your arm strains the back moreso than if you just carried a regular backpack up the same stairs, where the weight would be properly placed over your center of gravity.

The real benefit of the rolling packpacks, then, comes not from reduced strain but from the added amount of stuff you can carry around. Although it's still a strain rolling one of these around all day, you don't really feel much difference if it's full of heavy stuff or nearly empty; that weight is pressing down on the ground, not you! Practically speaking, this means that I can comfortably carry around my laptop, textbooks, notebook, water bottle, and a jacket all the way to and across campus, whereas with a normal backpack I could only comfortably carry the notebook without getting sore shoulders afterwards.

In conclusion, the benefit of this backpack comes not necessarily from savings in effort, but from the increased utility of being able to carry around however much you want. If you find yourself having to forego bringing certain things with you because you have a back back and are worried about having to lug it around, then this backpack is for you.

I should mention that you might stand out more with a rolling backpack at school if you're the only one with one. If you don't want that sort of attention, think about that too. Also, there are things such as "tripping people" that you suddenly have to think about, when you wouldn't with a normal backpack.

The quality of the wheeled backpack is good. However, the design has some deficiencies that make it harder to use then necessary. 1. The main pouch where the PC goes is slanted down so far that it is hard to get PCs out of the back pack at the airport unless the bag is nearly empty. 2. The cloth handle at the top of the bag (for hand carry) is too far forward making it difficult to use the handle to connect it to luggage so you can pull it behind the luggage (the weight isn't distributed well enough that the bag will flip/roll frequently). 3. One of the front pockets only has one zipper. This makes it take longer to zip close as you have to zip it close clear to the bottom of the bag. If I had it to do over, I would not purchase this bag.

This would be a great product if a very gentle adult were to use this. My 11 year old seemed to be able to destroy it within 2 weeks. One of the plastic bound areas by a wheel popped out the two rivits and the zipper couldn't hold up to the crazy number of books that students (even in Elem. school) must tote around to classes. He is on his second one, that I had to purchase because the repair policy puts the nearest repair center at over 25 miles away AND the return policy is non-existent. I emailed to ask what I could do and only received a form letter response telling me to go the web site (which is where I found the prior information). I DID get a message on my phone about 5 days after REVIEWING their product on Amazon. I chose not to answer or call back. I am a 'too little, too late' type of person. If the seccond Samsonite Med. Wheeled Backpack holds up, that's great. It has so far (about one month) but I am not impressed with the customer services that they offer. Personally, I would've given only 1 star if the 2nd backpack hadn't held up so long. Maybe it is just bad luck on my behalf or even my 11 year old but the customer service was horrible, regardless of how the damage occurred. I really just wanted a repair place near my home to have it fixed myself. I am NOT driving 25 miles just to have someone tell me that my son damaged it. I was happy driving 3 and paying for the repair myself!!!

Utterly disappointing design. Bought it primarily for overnight business trips. Two main problems:

1. If I open the main compartment completely, everything the front flap falls open and everything ends up on the floor.

2. Laptop is so deep in the main compartment that it is so difficult to get it out at airport scanners especially when the bag is fully packed.

So disappointed and frustrated that I am rather using my old laptop bag which is falling apart. Wish I could give it back to Amazon even if you don't want to refund me. Unfortunately I live in South Africa and it's not that easy to return something to you.

District Threads DT700 Montezuma Messenger Bag

What I like:

Good bag, well made, sturdy materials, water resistant, looks good, comfortable to use, light weight (when empty!), holds a lot of stuff, good features. Love the zip back pocket that holds documents, pens, my cell phone, wallet, etc. Zippers and pockets everywhere and I love that too. There are two deep large pockets on the front to hold my sunglasses and whatever I need to get to quickly. Easily accessible from the front without unzipping/velcro-ing/unbuckling, but deep enough that nothing falls out. 2 water bottle holders is very cool. Good bag at a good price.

What I had some trouble with and how I solved it:

1) There's an inner front flap full of pockets sewn to the top front edge of the bag under the cover. I love this, but If you put anything more than a couple of ounces in there the front edge of the bag collapses awkwardly. I solved this by cutting a piece of stiff plastic to fit, punched a couple of holes in the corners then got creative with a thin piece of webbing to tie this insert in place. I also attached that front flap of pockets to the plastic in the same way. Problem solved. This really should have been addressed by the bag designer.

2) My 15" laptop *almost* fit into the laptop pocket, but was too large by about 1/4". I could have returned the whole bag, but that's a pain in the butt. Instead I turned the bag inside out, pulled out the stitching on one side of the laptop pocket, moved the edge over to the inside seam of the bag and re-stitched it by hand. Laptop fit easily. No idea why the designer/manufacturer didn't do this in the first place and just add a little bit of padding on the corner to compensate. Took about 15 minutes was seemed easier, faster, cheaper than sending it back and searching for a different bag.

The Montezuma messenger bag that I purchased is strong, sturdy, and I like the color.

Gregory Women's Dipsea 6 Backpack

I bought this so I could stuff my work clothes in it and run home. I love it. The straps are very adjustable so you can cinch everything down tight, but it doesn't pinch or bind. It's light and very comfortable to wear. Thanks to the shovel pocket and bungee, it also holds more stuff than you'd think. It's a great backpack that really fits my needs.

The color wasn't what I expected; it looks more purple than black. The elastic bands across the front are definitely purple. Looks like the back pack sat in front of a store window and faded. The size is exactly what I expected because I saw the back pack, albeit different color, in a store.

I purchased this to avoid hand carrying on day hikes with my German Shepherd. It is perfect; fits everything I need for up to one day, including water, food, wallet, keys, glasses, dog treats, etc. It has 2 small side compartments that are easily accessible and these are my favorites. The daypack fits very comfortably due to the easy stap adjustments. I am 5 ft 9 in and of medium to thin build, however I don't think the chest strap and waist strap would adjust to fit a very robust person. The chest and waist straps make carrying easy, most of the time I don't even realize it is on. There is no movement of the pack that causes irritation. Quick snaps make for easy on and off. The only item I carry separately is my camera. The pack would fit a small camera, but I like to have mine more accessible. The color is darker than pictured, more of a burgendy, but still very pretty. The fabric feels very durable, haven't used it in rain yet, so I don't know how it fares in wet weather.

Baggallini Santiago Tote

I did a lot of in-person and on-line shopping for a really functional travel tote that would carry all the necessities for multi-flight cross-country travel and not be so punitively heavy or bulky that I was exhausted by the time I reached my destination. I found it in this tote! I quite literally have packed everything I need for a long, 3-flight trek and there is room to spare. (.My husband says I could pack everything I need for basic and happy survival....). The design makes it extremely versatile, but has good security features to boot. I have to say I debated about this color because it looked "OK" on-line, but it is really quite attractive. Rather than a dull-berry, it is more a deep burgundy color with a gold lining that makes everything easy to find. As one who thrives on organization and stresses over the lack thereof when I travel, this tote is just perfect!

Better than pictures--roomy, durable AND stylish. Perfect bag for day-tripping, carry-on, etc. Versatile too--nice frop from shoulder (doesn't slide off) and great cross-body option. Love it!

I bought this bag online without seeing what it really was all about. I ended up giving it a shot and after a couple of weeks this is what I've found:

Pros:

-Stylish

-Lightweight

-Functional

-Heavy Hardware

-Removable Cross-body Strap

-Outside Pockets Great for cell, keys, badge, quick access items, one pocket allows to be used over luggage handles and is great for mail/paper

-Inside hooks for keys or whatever

-Comes with a wristlet

-Inside Organizer pockets for pen/chapstick, cards, etc.

-Padded iPad/eReader pocket

Cons:

-Hard to get in and out of from top. Seems to taper in a bit so reaching "down in" and looking for things is a little frustrating. I've learned over the years to put most of my 'things' in zippered pouches so this helps.

-Shoulder straps feel a little short for a bag of this size. If the drop were just a little longer I think it would help when wearing a big jacket. The straps do fall off of your shoulder unless you do that shoulder hunch thing. Maybe if they were leather or rubbery?

I use this bag daily as I take public transportation to and from work. I have even put my laptop in this, lenghtwise, but would not recommend this bag solely for that purpose as you will be competing for space with your other items but it will fit if you need it to. I like the little padded pocket for my Kindle, although with my case, I'm not sure I even really needed the padding. I never did before, but it's there if you want that extra piece of mind.

Just really wish it were a little easier to get in and out of. So mostly what I do is put all the crap I don't access daily (umbrella, zippered pouches that carry feminine products, makeup, etc) on the bottom and my wallet on top. I use the outside pocket for my phone, keys, earbud and badge for work.

UPDATE AFTER 3 FULL MONTHS OF USE

I like this bag when nothing is in it. When I have things in it. Not so much. I thought I could deal with the reaching in but I just can't. The zipper is rough and scratches my arms when reaching in beacuse the top opening part is narrow. Not good for an every day bag. I need a tote.

This is totally my opinion of course.

Style/look is cute... functionality questionable.

And because it's so narrow, the little ipad/ereader pocket gets in the way too when I reach in.

OH well. Live and learn.

I own a number of Baggallini Bags, and I like the Santiago. But it doesn't merit 5 stars for a few reasons.

The Good:

Roomy. The bag is a nice size to use either as a large purse or a tote. I love the zippered back pocket, which can either be used for storage or (unzipped) put over the handle of a roller bag (luggage). Nice.

iPad Pocket. The bag has an interior pocket just for your iPad. Do NOT listen to those who say that it's 'too small' for an iPad. In fact, I have an iPad with a ZAGG Folio case, which is a hard shell folding case with a Bluetooth keyboard. This adds quite a bit of heft to my iPad, but it all fits in the pocket. NICE!

Standard Compartments. If you have a Baggallini bag, you know about the standard pockets and compartments. It has a large interior zippered pocket, a space for your business cards (or small cell phone), organizers for credit cards/business cards.

Zippered pouch and leashes. This bag comes with a zippered pouch. The bag also has a couple of leash hooks to hook on the pouch and your keys. Prior versions of the zippered pouch had a clear window pocket on one side. The pouch is now (cheaper) plain. But still nice.

The Okay:

Handle. I wish they would use leather. Some of the newer bags do. This one does not. Additionally, I would like a longer drop for this bag on the handles. Then, you would not need the shoulder strap. However, the drop for this bag STILL does allow you to carry it as a shoulder bag/tote, but it's a little tight when you have a winter coat on.

Limited color choices. I wish Baggallini would make more bags in the patterned fabrics. I LOVED the giraffe and zebra prints. Subtle but still interesting. Espresso is nice, but...bring those back!

Outer pocket. I love putting my cell phone in the outer pocket. It is both zippered and has a latch. I would rather have seen an easier access pocket. BUT it does have a roomy pocket and a smaller cell phone pocket for easier access (all in one).

All in all, this is a very nice, roomy bag. I can tell that it will be one of my favorites Baggallini bags.

Dakine 11-Litre Shyla Pack

The tag on this bag claims it will carry most 17 inch laptops, but I could just barely squeeze my 15.6 inch (very thin) Zenbook into it and once inside it was very difficult to remove. If the top opening was as wide as the base of the bag, it would have easily fit. The material was also very thin and offered little padding/protection. And somehow it was much larger than expected, which made it even more frustrating that my ultrabook style laptop wouldn't fit!

Great product because it is what I expected! It is bigger than I first thought but that's not a bad thing. It just means it can hold everything I need plus more!

I have no complaints about my bag as it is, though a handle on the top would be nice in addition to the shoulder strap.

It's beautiful, it's durable, Dakine is a very solid brand in my experience. I have three or four different kinds of bags from them.

One front smaller pocket which zips closed for smaller items, about 13" across, 9" tall and 1.25 inches deep. Pretty standard stuff. Lovely dark maroon color inside. I would call the large section of the bag 3" deep, not 2.5.

In the large pocket of the bag there is one bigger area for your stuff, and a padded section for a laptop but NOT a 17" as it says.

I have a 17.3" HP and the bag is nowhere near wide enough to fit it in. If you lay the bag flat you'll see it is 17" at its widest point, but it comes inward slightly at the top. I couldn't fit my friend's 16" easily either. Way too snug.

I decided to keep it and use it for other things, but I will still need to go get yet another item that will fit my laptop.

Well at first when I got it I was worried it wasn't actually gonna fit my 17" macbook pro. I couldn't get it into the bag, but on second try I managed to get it settled into the little compartment and now I sort of love that it's not any bigger. It makes it as small as possible while still being able to carry around my laptop.

The one thing I might say I don't like is the fact that the inside is neon green. Other than that I have no negatives to say about it.

I really like this laptop bag. The coloring is brilliant, it's not faded or dull like I had worried it might be, it's really crisp & clear. It's very spacious(sp?)inside just like I had hoped. I really adore this bag & I can't wait to use it with my new laptop. My only concern is there isn't a lot of padding where the laptop goes & I would prefer just a little more padding in that area. I'm sure I can compensate for that somehow but otherwise, I think it's a great product.

SeaWorld Whale Tail Back Pack

I love this backpack! I have been a whale lover since I have been born and I was so thankful to find that there was a backpack that had a whale tail stitched onto it with whale tail zipper pulls! Amazing!

First of all, in the picture, the whale tail appears to be white, but in reality it is more of a silver color, which I thought was a nice touch. The smallest compartment works well for holding my computer charger and there's even a small pocket inside the largest compartment that I can put my computer in. It helps me be able to minimize how many bags I have to carry around when I can just put my computer inside my backpack.

My main concern is just the zippers. They appear to be very fragile, like if you pulled on the actual whale tail part of them to zip and unzip your bag, they would break off. However, I have had this backpack for a while now and the zippers have not broken off. I just must say, though, that if you are to zip and unzip this backpack, I would reccommend using thering attaching the whale tail zipper pull to the backpack rather than the tail itself.

Overall, an amazing product. The straps are nice and long and for someone like me who likes longer straps, it is perfect. I love this product and I really think it is very well made.

I can probably get the same quality luggage at Marshall's for $20 less (paid ~$65 for this). This is everything I want in a bookbag, except there is no water bottle holder. I have bottle cages on my bike though, so I can make do. The main reason I chose this bag is the clips that are supposed to be for a skateboard. They are perfect for my yoga mat. It doesn't work great for heavy, dense yoga mats like Jade mats. However, it is perfect for my Ecowise mat, which is a spongier mat with much better grip than a Jade, and way lighter. The bag has a good amount of storage enough that more would probably be more weight than I really should be walking or riding around with. It has an adjustable belt for your waist and in between the shoulder straps. It took some playing around for me to figure out how to effectively adjust it. I have to readjust it depending on how full and/or heavy it is. But it is very comfortable and functional. I especially like that I can access the side pockets while I'm wearing it so I can access my keys, sunglasses, and phone, without taking off the bag, even while riding my bike. I also wanted a bright color for visibility. This turquoise color is not as bright as I would like, but way better than black.

The draw backs to this bag are mainly that it is not waterproof, it is made of a synthetic material that makes me sweat (I don't usually sweat) and then chafes. It also doesn't feel well constructed, though I've had it for a couple months now and haven't seen any wear. I've always sworn by LL Bean bags, like the one that I have from the early 90s that is still good as new... I will be absolutely shocked if this bag lasts 5 years let alone 20. Not bad at all for the price. I would buy it again.

Timbuk2 Command Laptop TSA-Friendly Messenger Bag

I am rough on my bags. My office is at a power plant, and I travel constantly. I put a lot of abuse on my bags. I have worn out many, many, laptop bags, computer cases, and backpacks dragging them around with me to all of these locations. I finally resorted to using a military backpack that was specially made for the US Army Rangers to use in Afganistan, that one seems to hold up, but it lacks that 'professional' look. (professional soldier YES, but not professional desk jockey)

I had the chance to try this bag out and I must say I am impressed. While it has not been put through the ringer for months on end yet, I can tell right away this is MUCH better than the rest of the laptop cases and computer bags I have used in the past. It is thick and heavy, sturdy stitched, comfortable, and roomy. This thing is great.

Starting with the laptop pocket, yes it folds out so it will supposedly be TSA legal to put through the x-ray scanner at the airport, but tell that to the TSA person who's yelling for you to take it out. It may meet their guidelines, but just take it out anyway or you'll argue away any time you tried to save. The pocket is padded nicely and easy to access without having to open the entire bag up. Nice secure zipper. Even has a smaller padded pocket inside that one to perfectly hold my iPad. Nice touch!

The remainder of the bag is great too. Nice little pockets for odds-n-ends, and water bottle holder on the side. The interior is roomy, more so than it seems by looking. Once you start putting things in, it just keeps filling, its like the clown car of messenger bags. Best part, after I crammed way too much in there, it was still comfortable to carry.

I particularly like the buckles for the flap. Not sure if 'buckle' is the right word, but whatever you call them, I like them. Im tired of breaking buckles or snaps, or the plastic clips. The 'c-ring' type buckle is quick, easy, and secure. Its a small thing, but the small things are what separate ok items from great ones. The straps and everything else are just right, comfortable and easy to adjust.

Overall, this is just one heck of a well designed and well thought out bag. My opinion of this is that it seems to be designed by a USER, instead of some designer somewhere trying to make what he thinks someone would want. This screams that someone who actually uses these bags designed it, which from the info I read seems to be how this company started out.

***UDATE 12/27/12*** I spent most of 2012 traveling every week for work. Meaning airports Monday and Friday, rental cars, and my days spent at power plants. This is STILL my laptop bag, and it still looks great, still works perfect, and believe it or not, still doesnt even have ONE tear or popped stitch I can find. This product is MADE TO LAST!

I'm becoming such a Timbuk2 aficionado, I'm beginning to wonder if I have a problem. I'm changing laptop bags more frequently than my wife changes purses.

Anyway... owning the 2011 Command bag (as well as the original Commute, the Timbuk2 Commute 2.0, and Timbuk2 D-Lux messenger), I was going to pass up this bag, because of my collection, I was most disappointed with my Command.

Well, everything I disliked about last year's Command has been addressed this year, and it's now a favorite of mine. The laptop sleeve has been redesigned to actually protect a laptop now, and the addition of the tablet sleeve is brilliant.

The strange piecemeal interior holders have been replaced by a useful stitched-in pocket with more pockets, pouches, and holders. And finally, the strap has been replaced with infinitely more functional clasps. And from the very beginning, I was in love with the velcro covers (as in: covers that prevent the flap from... uh... "Velcroing" to the bag) on the outside, and keep-dry velcro on the inside. This is the bag Timbuk2 should have been selling last year.

Unless you adore the iconic Timbuk2 Messenger look, or prefer the quick plastic snap-tabs to the metal hook-and-loop, there's really no reason to choose the D-Lux over the Command.

05/16/2012 Update

Seriously, I love this bag so much, it's replaced my work bag full-time, and I've ordered another for my "not-work" computer.

One thing I have to point out: a few weeks ago, I picked up the Timbuk2 Deluxe Messenger Bag Strap Pad, and it's heaven. It's SO much better than the shoulder pad that comes with the Command (or any other Timbuk2 bag), you absolutely owe it to yourself to pick it up.

The included pad isn't bad, but the Deluxe is SO worth it!

The Command Messenger 2012 seems to me to be an excellent EDC (Every Day Carrier) for students and business folks with a caveat for some depending on there every day needs.

I started carrying the last gen D-lux laptop messenger bondage in medium. Overall it was a great bag with lots of room. For example you could carry a gallon of water and there was still a little room left in the width of the bag, so it was able to carry quite a sufficient load. The whole interior was visibly lined with TPU, so you don't mind putting things like shoes or other "messy"items inside the bag as it cleans out very nicely. The laptop sleeve in the back was a bit lack luster and the hight of the bag did limit the laptops that you could carry without having them pop out of the top a little. Additionally he compression straps on the bottom were a nice touch when you were carrying a smaller load for the day. However the modular origination on the inside left something to be desired especially as there didn't seem to really be any additional anything you could attach to them. So I figured for school the Command seemed like it would be a better fit, and it was

I purchased this bag in medium and was immediately taken aback by how much thinner the main compartment was. And yes I saw the difference in the measurements before hand but it still was a bit of a shock at first glance. That would be my word of warning. If you are the type that carries quite a substantial amount of books, a computer, etc. this may not be ideal for you. On the flip side it did make me realize just how much I was carrying that I did not need to so in my case the downsize was for the better. The other thing you may worry about but will be a pleasant surprise is the Oxford nylon. I'll admit I was a bit leery when I read it was not the "bomb proof" nylon as in there classic messengers but I was pleasantly surprised. It still feels quite tough but with more refined characteristics. I feel that it will be sufficient for all but the most abusive of there bags. The last "drawback" might be the strap pad. It is not like the classic at all. it is much thinner with only a suggestive amount of padding. That said as long as you don't overload the bag you should be fine, but I suspect this is where personal preference will come in, and if need be a better strap pad they have many options available. Now, enough nitpicking and onto the good stuff.

You will note by it measurements that it is a bit taller then the classics. This is great, as it is made more for an academia and business setting this affords you the ability to papers and most books in an upright position without affecting the closing of the top of the bag. So in doing so you will have a bit of room on the ends of the bag for my miscellaneous whatever's. Just keep in mind that width wise you only have the depth for about 2 moderately thick books before you start jamming the rest in. They put back the classic internal organizer, big thumbs up there. And in front of that there is a thin pocket that runs almost length of the bag that is fairly thin. This is great for stand alone files and folders and it keeps them nicely separate and protected from the main compartment. Additionally there is an even smaller zippered pocket in there as well, I suspect to keep you more sensitive documents, and items out of sight from any prying eyes. It's very discrete and easy for others to miss altogether. The front organizer is quite standard: 1 Napoleon, 3 zippered pockets, one key chain leash. This one has the added bonus of Velcro silencers, a big plus for those in a quiet environment. Fear not, they are easily removed if its not your cup of tea. Along those lines the flap closure secure with smooth metal hooks that aid to a perfectly quiet opening when silence is key. They also give a nice look of sophistication to the bag compared to plastic buckles.

Below all this is a zippered pocket that runs along the length of the bottom of the bag to stow you laptop charger cable and miscellaneous cords. Excellent addition to the bag. Supper handy. Just 2 words of caution, there is no padding down there so don't drop the bag when its loaded and there is no TPU down there either so stay clear of puddle's when its loaded as well. The handle on the top of the bag is quite nice as well but if the flap is not secured it does carry a bit odd. As well the shoulder strap is removable as well if you not going for that look. Another plus is the cup holder. For those who carry the bag on there right side it will be readily accessible, for our left sided friends however, not so much.

The laptop compartment is nice as it is on its own in the back and you can get to your notebook or tablet without having to open the bag in its entirety. It is worth wile to mention that the tablet sleeve has not additional padding from the laptop its just a velvet like patch pocket with a small Velcro closure at the top. Function yes, but a slight letdown. As mentioned it is TSA compliant and the laptop section separates via a zipper and is hinged at the top making for a quick grab and go when passing security. As well as a luggage handle pass through. One note with that is that this is on the very back of the bag and the bottom portion is Velcro closed and the top is left open. Its about 9.5 inches wide and does make a handy quick drop/store when on you need to add something on the go, papers, keys, etc.

Overall great bag for those in a more professional setting. Still quite rugged with a more classy look. Great built in organization. Perhaps a bit small for those who carry more then most. Still, if you take it for what it is and the situation it is meant for you should be quite happy with it.

This bag is a good bag, lots of compartments, an OK amount of storage, but not really a great bag. First of the TSA compliant compartment. It is good for going through airport security, but if the main compartment is stuffed full, re-zipping the laptop side is a task. The main compartment is also just OK. It is not really that big. I had 2 soft cover books and 2 small zippered accessory bags, and it bulged at the side.

One of the things I thought was going to be really great was the power brick compartment; once again, if the main compartment is full, it is very difficult to fit anything into the power brick pocket.

Over all it is not a bad bag, but it is definitely not a bag for travelers.

The Timbuk2 website has a great toollocate a bag that your model laptop fits into. Except it isn't accurate. I ordered the large sized Command bag specifically for my 17" MacBook Pro. I'm a big fan of the gear bagsown 3 of them already. Unfortunately, the zippered compartment the laptop goes in has an opening that is smaller than the rest of the compartment. I've had to wrestle my MacBook in and out of the padded compartment. Don't make the mistake of leaving a mouse dongle in the USB portyou'll either rip it out or never get the laptop in. The rest of the bag is fine, but it's primary job is to hold the laptop which is a real pain to make happen.

Stephen Joseph Boys 2-7 Rolling Monkey Back Pack

This backpack is adorable and functional . . . from a distance. The packaging left residual stickiness and it was when I looked closer to get it off that I saw how poorly put together this item is. To be fair, it is primarily the decorations. The stitching on the monkeys ears, tail, etc is just not high quality. There are stray strings, rough edges. The material is sort of faux leather and I expect it won't last. The functionality is not compromised and as I said, the kids love it but if I had seen this in the store, seen how poorly it is put together, I would have kept looking for something else.

I bought this for my 20 month old son to take as his travel bag for all of our plane trips and it is the perfect thing for the job. He loves monkeys so his face lights up everytime he sees it. It is smaller than a normal suitcase but the perfect size for him. He loves rolling it around and it fits his toys/books/activities wonderfully! LOVE IT!!
