Ogio Newt II Laptop/Tablet Backpack

Ogio Newt II Laptop/Tablet BackpackI love this bag. Has a compartment for both my laptop and iPad while still maintaining a main compartment for all your other stuff. Great quality, complaint is that there is no side pocket for a water bottle. That's a little bit of a drag, but aside from the lack of a water bottle slot, it's a great bag.

Backpack is made very well (shouldn't expect anything less from Ogio). Very comfortable and roomy. Exactly what I was looking for in a backpack.

UPDATING MY ORIGINAL REVIEW from a 4 to 3 stars BELOW:

So after using this bag for almost a month now... I honestly cannot recommend this bag and wish i could send it back. I love the design, the quality, all the pockets, but....

The padding is ridiculous... You can hardly put anything in all the pockets because the part of the bag that is on your bag is so padded you cant even get comfortable??? You feel the bag when filled with a laptop and books digging in your back. Since the back isn't hard enough it flexes so if you have a book you feel a book digging in. A laptop a laptop digging in. Its not painful cause all the padding but the padding is the problem as its really thick and makes the back tug on your shoulders and bend your back backwards with the weight...

I love the bag so I think I am going to take a razor to the back and take out the padding and see how it works then... I may even try to open the back and put cardboard and see if my mother in law can sew it back up.

I was so excited to get this bag and love Ogio's products (we have 3 others in the family) and honestly disappointed by this design from Ogio. I may make a video review to warn others as it is a really nice bag but then you remind yourself why have all these pockets if you cant hardly fill them up cause there is to much protection...

ORIGINAL REVIEW:

Pros:

You will love the quality of this bag.

I have the black and love the quality and color of the bag.

Tons of pockets for your stuff and nice padding materials in all areas of the bag.

Great padding for your back, shoulder straps, and zipper tabs are nice quality.

Cons:

Honestly the Pros become the cons...

So with all the padding the bag feels very bulky... I love Ogio I have the Flux bag and just wanted more padding in the main compartment and space to put my computer stuff and books. Besides the padding issues the Flux was great and the strap system with the neck shoulder line bar you never noticed the bag was on your back...

So I decided to upgrade to a bigger bag. With this bag it has all the space for your stuff but, when you add your laptop, then a certification prep books, a tablet, fill in the pocket for electronic gear, add your charge cables to the side pockets, and some pens. You feel like wow I got all this in this bag and it doesn't look huge.

When you put it on and start to walk you feel the laptop in your back and the bag feels kind of lop sided or bulky. With the Flux the laptop sits in the main compartment and I thought the side sleeve would be better protection but you will feel it in your back since the back is no longer flat. If you have a 15 inch laptop you'll feel that much in your back, a 17 inch or a tablet you will feel that in your back with the straps tugging on your back the rest of the way up...

I don't want to ramble on but just wanted to share that. The bag is really nice if you own say a web site business and travel to show presentations or something and don't carry a lot of books. The bag is great but for a student with a lot of books. Just beware you might feel the bag tugging and hanging off your back.

Oakley Men's Small Icon Backpack

Oakley Men's Small Icon Backpack, Black, One SizePerfect small bag for my car. This bag is small, so if you are looking for a hiking bag this is not it.

The goods:

-nice small bag w/ enough pockets

-looks cool, I like the style

-the outside pockets are large enough to be useful

-the organizer pocket and straps can expand out to hold more if needed

-other than the 2 outside side pockets, it has a side pocket for a 13" laptop, kindle, ipad, notepad. it also has a padded top pocket w/ a hole for your headphones and a small mesh pocket on the front. these pockets can be accessed w/o undoing the clips.

The bads:

-'organizer pocket' is not completely sealed. If I flip my bag over a few times the heavier items (bic lighter, small leatherman) fall out

-if all is fastened, you gotta undo 3 buckles, fold the top back, then unzip to get into the main pouch.

I would give this 5 stars if the organizer pouch was more secure. An organizer pouch is supposed to organize and secure small items. With this bag being so small, I tend to not always carry and place it upright. I think I will add some velcro to 1 of the organizer pockets (the 1 that holds my lighter and leatherman) and it should be secure enough.

Gave this to my brother for christmas, he's been wanting a smaller book-bag for when he goes out to take his iPad with him. Fits perfect!

Buy Oakley Men's Small Icon Backpack Now

The person who wrote the pack is small, is right. It is small, but for me fits everything I need every day without being too cumbersome, and it LOOKS cool. What more can I say? As for the straps, I never lock them, as the zipper and closed flap keeps everything in place. I would only use the straps if I want absolute security or hiking a cliff or something.

All the pockets and places to put stuff is great!

I have an all-black one, and time-to-time, people stop me and ask where I've gotten this pack as they like the size and look.

I've had this for years and use it nearly everyday, throw it around in the car, etc., and it's held up amazingly. One strap has broken as it got yanked by the dog, and one zipper pull-tab has broken off, but I've been able to attach another pull in the zipper base.

The backpack is kinda expensive, but I think it's been worth it.

This is a superb bag for times when you don't need to carry the world. For hiking, a nice small daypack. For travel, an excellent pack for times when bulk needs to be limited. I was able to fit a jacket and a parka (thin for the rain), camera, extra lens, gps, cell phone, batteries, a book (not small), several small misc. items and there is room left over. The shoulder straps could be more substantial and I would not recommend this for a hike of long duration unless you beef up the thickness of the straps.

ALPS OutdoorZ Traverse Pack

ALPS OutdoorZ 9464220 Traverse PackI had used this for a Hunting trip , was able to get everything I needed into it, great extension for a meat bag. Great straps, nice side pocket for a spotting scope. I had my bow with me works great holding everything together. Have not tried with a rifle yet, but has some nice straps to secure your rifle. It got banged up and did not rip or break. Worth every penny

I bought this pack as my hunting/bug out bag. This pack rocks. I have had it out several times this year hiking and scouting and even though I have a lot in it, it carries the weight great. There is plenty of room for a 72 hour bag. The Bow/Rifle straps work great for my Crossbow. For kicks and giggles i went to Dick's and Gander mountain trying to see how much they wanted for a comparable pack. I saw packs that were as much as $500 that do not come close to this pack. My wife has worn it when it was full on a family hike and she likes it also.

Finally got the daypack in and I'm very excited! Only reason for the 4 stars is because I haven't had a chance to use it out in the field yet. Definitely has lots of room and fits everything I need to take and some! Seems to be very sturdy and I can't feel the weight on my shoulders by how the weight is distributed, but won't really know until I have to haul meat on it. I would definitely recommend it for anyone. Only downside is that it isn't waterproof, but the pack does come with an orange blaze rain cover.

Ogio Squadron RSS II Laptop/Tablet Backpack

Ogio Squadron RSS II Laptop/Tablet BackpackPurchased this for my son to start college. Was looking for something with high capacity, laptop protection, and durability. He has been using it about a month now and the bag is performing quite well on all levels. There are a few loose threads on the should straps--nothing serious, but frankly I expect very high quality in relation to the cost of this backpack. He is quite pleased with the bag and to have your 18 year old tell you that it is a great backpack and he really appreciates it is a testimony in and of itself. He has said that the extra laptop protection on this bag is really helpful and the laptop travels with him everyday to class. The bag also provides a surprising amount of room for books, materials, and his various other electronics, i.e. phone, external hard drive, etc. and is not bulky. I would definitely recommend this to others without hesitation. Pricey but over the long run it is a reasonable cost for what you are getting.

I was looking at a few... "unique" bags. I like to stand out a bit, but not in the sense of being "loud". It came down between this Ogio, Oakley's Kitchen Sink, and a Logitech bag.

My absolute "must" criteria was top-tiered laptop protection. This was going to be a bag for college, and it needs to survive a lot of use (not abuse). With that said, it's unnecessary to mention it needs to have room for books. Not to mention, as a gamer, I needed room for my mouse, mousepad, and charger. I would like to point out that I use a fairly pricey computer, and I would say it may be over-kill if you use a basic $500 laptop. I mean, it's great and all, but the laptop compartment may not hold a thicker profile laptop (non-ultrabooks) very well. This is also directed at you alienware owners.... you may want to choose a different route (sadly). You MAY be able to squeeze the M14 in it though.

This Ogio won in the end with it's amazing "RSS" compartment. It holds my 15.4" macbook VERY snugly, but definitely has room for a 15.6". I think it's relevant to addthis will absolutely NOT hold more than a 15.6". If you have a 16", it will not zip up.

Outside of the RSS, it is fantastic quality. The zippers are great, the ballistic nylon is extremely thick, the straps are stout (and cool looking), and if you use the top handle on your bags, you're in for a treat with it's memory foam-ish feel. There's a pocket for everything I have. I also geocache, and I have a full-blown first aid kit in this thing, 4 flashlights, battery cargo, bug sprays, compass....etc and none of this stuff is in the main compartment, the top compartment, nor the front organizer compartment. Some other bags I've used, when the pocket are full of dense or hard cases, it doesn't feel right and interferes with other compartments, but not this one.

Anyway, it's a great bag, and I would definitely pay up to $150 for this bag. If it ever wears out, I will be buying this one again without hesitation.

Buy Ogio Squadron RSS II Laptop/Tablet Backpack Now

The only reason why I'm giving this bag a 4 star instead of a 5 is because it's just to heavy. The bag itself weighs a ton. But other wise I love it I can store anything I want in it. Like today I was able to shove 2 six packs in it, my iPad, a jacket, extra set of gloves, and bunch of other random stuff it's well worth the price if your riding!!!!!!

Traveler's Choice Sedona 29 in. Hardside Spinner

Traveler's Choice Sedona 29 in. Hardside SpinnerAfter frustrating experiences with regular cloth luggage that doesn't last more than 4 trips I decided to try hardside luggage. As far as I know, this is the best deal (and prices keep dropping) in large double-wheeled hardside spinners. And this thing is huge. At 61.5 linear inches it's at the limit of what airlines let you use. It looks also bulky and bulgy because from the outside at least it appears to have a separate compartment for the handle. But unfortunately that is not the case. You still have the rails in the way inside. Otherwise the inside is nicely padded and covered and has lots of functional items, including a zippered bag along the joint. On the outside everything is solid and well made, the wheels, the handles, the TSA lock.

One has to get used to the oyster-type design and learn to pack differently. Rather than just filling up one side and close it, one has to pack the two halves separately. With this type of design, it's the zipper that suffers mostall the strain is put on the zipper when you lift and pull the bag. When lifted, one half will drop below the one that is being held. And I'm not convinced this zipper is tough enough for the job. Especially when you see how baggage handlers handle luggage yanking it from underneath a pile of bags. One also has to get used to the flexibility of polycarbonate. You can put so much stuff in this luggage that while you can quickly reach the airline weight limit, volume-wise you'd be challenged to fill these up and that's without expanding them. And at a certain point, this luggage literally bottoms out as the polycarbonate flexes. Similarly, when you grab and pull it from the top or side handle, that surface will also bend quite a bit.

After an international trip with a change of planes, it survived things well, a bit scratched but otherwise intact. I guess at this price one shouldn't really complain. And I don't have any complaints, but I wouldn't mind seeing an additional handle at the bottom, which is very useful. As well as some additional material at the corners to protect it from bumps at those airports that drop your luggage onto the carousel from another floor. I'd rather see someone design hardside luggage where the two halves interlock or overlap in some way and it's not up to zippers and the thin zipper cloth to hold 50+ pounds together. But until then perhaps a heavy duty zipper would give one more confidence.

If you're looking for an affordable, large, solid hardside spinner with lots of features, this is a great if not the best choice.

Well built and incredibly light even when packed. Already used for an international trip and it held up really well. Lots of room inside and no problem checking it with the airlines. Very impressed with both the quality and the price.

Love this suitcase. Took it on a trip out west and made it through the airport handling with just a few scuff marks. I was able to clean them off with a rag when I got home. The suitcase was easy to pack and the clothes didn't seem to shift around as much as when I have used the soft sided luggage in the past.

Mini Backpack - Thomas the Tank - No.1 Blue Engine

Mini Backpack - Thomas the Tank - No.1 Blue EngineIt really is adorable but small. If you look closely, this backpack is 10 inches; some of the other smaller ones are 12. Not sure if the 2 inches makes that much of a difference. My son will still love this. Just too bad that I can't fit a coloring book into it. I really only bought it for him to carry a few toys anyway.

I bought this thinking I could use it for a diaper bag but it's very small (I didn't pay attention to measurements). My son will use it to carry toys around now. I especially liked the fact that it had a side pocket, perfect for a sippy cup but now we will not be using the bag as a diaper bag. Cute design though.

Meffort Inc 15.6" Laptop Sleeve with Extra Side Pocket , Soft Carrying Handle & Removable Shoulder

Meffort Inc 15.6' Laptop Sleeve with Extra Side Pocket , Soft Carrying Handle & Removable Shoulder Strap / Notebook Bag Case for Apple Macbook Air Pro Acer Asus Dell HP Sony 15' 14' 14.1' and MoreThis bag served me well for four months. It fit my thin, 16" laptop (Acer's Aspire Timeline X), and the front pouch was handy for carrying the power supply.

One of my favorite features of the bag is its should strap. Yesterday, however, the strap broke in a parking lot, causing the bag--with the laptop in it--to tumble to the pavement. At first I assumed that the hook which removes the strap had come open. But no--the stitching that attaches the strap's anchor to the bag had come unraveled. Very poor workmanship, especially considering that the case hadn't been used for anything else besides carrying my laptop to and from work and is only four months old.

I got lucky this time (computer survived the fall) but will never use or buy a product from this company again. Spend the extra money to get a better quality carrier for your laptop.

This bag is as advertised in terms of design, which I liked, and size. The pocket is great, padded, and zips up. However, it has that cheap plastic smell and makes everything smell like that. Plus, I bought this sleeve because it had the shoulder strap, but the strap squeaks when you're walking and it's right up near your ear but I couldn't locate it or stop it.

Jansport Merit Backpack Navy Blue

Jansport The Merit BackpackThis backpack is very large and it fits my books and my lunch bag with some room to spare. My previous backpack was a Teton Bookbag, which was a great backpack but it was much smaller than this one. The laptop sleeve is very nice, but it is too large for my 13 inch mac book.

The straps are very stiff, which makes it awkward to put on and take off when it is full. They also kind of cut into my shoulders sometimes, but all I have to do is adjust them.

Part of the added volume of the backpack is due to it's height. I'm 5'8" and it fits me fine, but if I was a few inches shorter, it probably wouldn't work for me. Sometimes the added height makes it difficult to reach down into it to find stuff, but I'm much happier having a backpack with plenty of room.

I haven't had the backpack long, but it is well constructed and durable.

**** UPDATE ****

I have had this backpack for a couple of years now and it has held up incredibly well. It got me through the last half of my education, and I had to carry some large heavy books. There are no tears or worn fabric.

I got a new computer since writing this. It's a 17 in. Lenovo and it fits the sleeve much better, but it's still kind of roomy.

An additional note on the straps...after a while, I got used to adusting the straps when I was putting on/taking off the backpack. It doesn't seem like such a big deal to me, but there are probably some people that will be annoyed by that. I think there is an advantage to the stiff straps and that is that they stay in place nicely.

Really good durable bag, worth the money, but then I got it for less than $30.

The backback was well thought out with a pocket specifically for a calculator, or some kind of media device. The Backpack is extremely large and always fit my large AP Textbooks. This bag has been extremely durable and has surpassed my expectations. The color of this specific bag (Navy Blue) seems to been discontinued, but it is absolutely my favorite color, and I shall attempt to find this bag once more in this color.

Scully Soft Plonge Shoulder Tote

Scully Shoulder ToteArrived quickly, well packed and in brand new condition. Lots of organizer space. Not very impressed by the thinner leather. Unless I keep the bag full, it tends to want to sag. Also the strap attachments could have been a little higher up the sides to keep the bag from "flipping". For an organizer, though, a very well-planned bag. STORMTECH WATERPROOF GEAR BAG (LARGE)

STORMTECH WATERPROOF GEAR BAG >> One size,YELLOW / BLACKI really like this bag. It seems really sturdy and has been abused. I have used a number of offshore bags over the years and this one seems like it will last in the long run.

At first glance: This bag is thick. The material on it is nice and sturdy and if I leave it out in the rain, I'm not worried about my stuff getting wet. I wouldn't submerge it in water though. It's also spacious. I've packed a bunch of stuff in here and weighed it down with no problem. The measurements are roughly 30"x17"x17".

I'm going to compare this bag to the Ogio Seal Water-Resistant Duffel Backpack Bag since I just received that bag and really like it as well. The Stormtech bag is a little more expensive, but they're roughly the same price.

Zipper: Stormtech

The zipper on the Stormtech bag unzips and the top part folds open making it easier to load. The zipper also seems to be of a lot better quality. I have a feeling the OGIO bag zipper will get caught on the sides over time and possibly break.

Material: Stormtech

The OGIO has a 212 denier polyester with PVC liner and the Stormtech is 50% PVC / 50% Polyester. Now I don't know what any of that means but just by feeling them, the Stormtech bag feels a lot thicker and more durable.

Straps: Stormtech

The Stormtech bag has handle straps just like the OGIO bag, but it also has two shoulder straps that turn the bag into a backpack. This is an awesome feature that I use often. First off, if you use both straps to use it as a should bag, it distributes the weight. It makes it feel sturdier. I've used it as a backpack many times when ascending/descending stairs. The Stormtech bag also has compression straps! This is one of my favorite features because it keeps your bag nice and tight if it's not full.

Features: OGIO

I think the OGIO is better in this aspect. The boot bag is nice so you don't muddy up your clothes. I ended up using the boot bag with my Stormtech bag. Also the outer pocket is nice in case you have items you need to get to easily. The Stormtech bag has a webbed inner compartment on the top flap that I don't use that often. There's also a clear ID pocket on the side that I don't use at all.

Appearance: Tie

I think they both look like nice bags. The OGIO may have an edge here but I don't really care about looks more than I do functionality.

The winner is... Stormtech. I do like both, but for every day rugged use, I think the Stormtech will last longer. The OGIO I will probably just use for day trips or camping.

For now, the Stormtech bag is my bag of choice. I don't see myself replacing it any time soon.

Rockland Luggage Melbourne 20 Inch Expandable Carry On, Champagne, One SizeI've used this on one trip so far, roundtrip NY/LA checked on 2 different airlines, so the rating may go up (or down) after more trips. Overall, I'm very satisfied. I was amazed at how much STUFF I could pack into this thing (4 pairs of pants, 8 shirts, 1 pair of safety shoes, 2 sets of pajamas, the usual socks/underwear/bras/toiletries) plus room to spare WITHOUT expanding the bag. Full, it was still very light and mobile. The bag made the trip without incident-not even a scuff. (I didn't try taking it as a carry-on, but it looks like it would fit without issue.) What really impressed me though, was how this bag survived my 2.8 yr old son, aka Destructo. Not only did he think it great fun to push around, (demonstrating the stable wheel base on linoleum, tile, carpet, and wood) he laid it down (full) at the foot of our bed and proceeded to use it as a springboard, jumping off the bed, onto the suitcase, onto the floor. Repeat in reverse direction (going back up). Repeat ad nauseum. Figure he weighs about 30 lbs and he did this around 50 times. No damage to the suitcase or the contents (including a sealed full mouthwash container and a bag of goldfish crackers). To me, this says a LOT about how this will hold up during airport handling. This is much more than I can say for the Coleman hard side that I bought. I haven't even used the Coleman yet, but when Destructo tipped it over on the kitchen floor, the piece holding the base of the retractable handle inside the shell popped out. (Hubby repaired it, but this is BEFORE the Coleman has even been on an airplane or used as a toddler springboard.)

I bought two as gifts. The cases arrived in good time and in perfect condition. Love the color, design and construction of this product. I was hesitant to purchase, based on a couple of questionable reviews, one being that the zippers were installed backwards. Not so. The cases are as nice, or better, than most hard sided, expandable cases I have seen at 2x the price.

I LOVE this piece of luggage. It is extremely light and extremely easy to travel with, since it has the four wheels. I have taken this on two one-week trips and several long weekend trips since purchase, and it has held up well. It's small, but for me that's a positive as it forces me to pack well and it's so easy to take around when I am traveling.

Other reviews have noted that it is not very durable. It has held up so far for me, but if/when it gives out I will DEFINITELY purchase another one...even if it only lasts a year, it would be worth it for me because of ease of travel. I travel a lot, and lightweight luggage is extremely important to me. The price was right here, and the free shipping of course made it worth it.

Update:

I've had this suitcase for almost a year now, and I have taken it all over the world: for a week in Italy, two weeks in Panama, and many, many shorter trips. It's still going strong. The inside pocket tore when I overpacked heels into it, but that really was my fault, not the suitcase. The frame has been extremely durable, and I do not go easy on my stuff. The body is a little scuffed, but otherwise it's in great shape. I have convinced all of my friends that they need this suitcase as well! :)

I bought this and a Samsonite Winfield 20" spinner at the same time.

I returned the Samsonite because, with handle and wheels counted in, it exceeds the airline spec of 22 inches.

This suitcase was a good size, met the airline specs and in practice fits well in the over head compartments. The interior is pretty basic, with a zippered cover for the top half and one zippered pocket on the other half. More organizing pockets would have been appreciated.

The exterior is an attracctive, textured and striped black design. In one month of usage I have not scratches or nicks.

But, this is a big but, after one month of use, roughly 3 airline trips, one of the wheels has failed and now wobbles such that I cannot push it along on four wheels. After less than 30 days, the bag is now in effect useless for me.

I'm trying to figure out how to get warranty repair on it. If I recall came with a tag stating a 5 year warranty.

So buyer beware.

I took this on my around the world trip and have return home with holes in the sides and nicks at the corners. It is very light weight and the wheels work great. The down side is that it is not very durable.
