36 inch Drop Bottom Wheeled Duffel With Backpack Straps

High Sierra A.T. Gear Ultimate Access 36' Wheeled Drop Bottom Duffle with Backpack Straps in BlackI work in a marine environment. Durability, resistance to environmental stresses such as direct sunlight, moisture, corrosion, and incidental physical abuse on my part are always part of my criteria when purchasing anything I might bring on a boat. When I first started buying bags I was a lot younger and didn't mind carrying around 50 pounds of gear on one shoulder but as I got older I started buying duffle bags with wheels. I used to buy Samsonite wheeled duffle bags thinking they were of higher end quality, and this is partly true. However, all the Samsonite bags I've owned so far have lost most of their functionality due to the rigid frame where the wheels are set snapping because the rods stop before they can offer any support and the wheel base has no extra support molded in.

It's time for me to purchase new bags again and I'm not made of money so I want a good value. I looked at Thule, Dakine, Samsonite and High Sierra. Thule and Dakine seem way over priced. I decided to take a chance on High Sierra this time and bought two bags of different sizes. The first thing I looked at when receiving this bag was the frame. It's a much better designed component than what I had on the last generation Samsonite bags I owned. The Rods extend all the way to the bend where the wheels are set and the curved wheel base has some reinforcement design molded in. This bag has two interesting features that caught my attention. Instead of having one shoulder strap it has back pack style straps built in to the bottom. Any time you run out of flat surface to pull you can always carry the bag with the weight evenly distributed on both shoulders. Also theres a zippable base in the top compartment, it's a good design in case you need extra space for large items that wont fit in the top compartment itself. You can just unzip the bottom and utilize both compartments as one, however the bottom material is very thin. It's made of the same sheer material as the liner that is used to cover the frame. The upper compartment is therefore heavily reliant on the support of whatever you pack in the bottom compartment if it is to last. If the thin material were to ever get cut the rip might continue to travel over time until it hit the zipper unless a patch was sewn in immediately. The consolation is the bag is still functional as one big compartment. Outer zippers are decent quality but snaps are not as heavy duty as I would like. The fabric used is not as good of quality as the Samsonites I've owned but decent enough and the design is much better considering the added features and better frame. The Samsonite equivalent is about 50 dollars more and has a 3 year limited warranty which I was told by them might not cover the base if it snaps. The High Sierra has a 5 year limited warranty and I was told by them that the bag would be covered under warranty if I were to have that problem. Without the key rollable feature being reliable better fabric doesn't mean a whole lot so I'm fairly happy with my purchase at the moment. After 6 months of use I will revise my review accordingly.

Materials 2.5 stars (outer shell is adequate but score is low due to no lining in top compartment and thin material in top compartment base)

Design 4.5 stars

Build 4 stars

Warranty 4.5 stars

Price 3.5 stars (paid 105.00)

This seems a very good duffle, but be warned if you want to flight with it, most companies will charge you for oversize luggage. Continental asked me $200 to check in this duffle!

I ended purchasing the High Sierra AT659, which is similar to this one but has the right size: 5 stars.

I'd like to praise the seller luggageguru, they understood my mistake and were very helpful in getting the smaller one.

I've had mine for more than a year now, and just ordered another one for a friend.

It's big, roomy, durable, and portable (can carry it on your back).

One negative remark i have is that it's not watter proof (one airport apparently let the luggages out in the rain, so i got my clothes all wet).

Other than that, i love it.

I did extensive research online -even went to sporting goods stores that had clearance sales (Gander, Academy, etc)and this duffle bag is -by farthe best you can possibly buy for the money. I was hesitant to make this purchase precisely because of the low price, but now that I've seen it "in person", all my doubts are gone. It's big enough to take on a two-week trip and you can use it as a backpack as well as a wheeled duffel bag, which is very convenient. I am very happy with this purchase. Absolutely recommend this bag!!

Tenba ShootoutTM Backpack - Medium

Tenba 632-313 Shootout Medium BackpackFirst off, this is a great backpack all around. I travel a lot and was looking for something to protect my gear and this does the job. Here are the pros and cons.

Pros:

* Very Sturdy

* Rugged Material

* Lots of space

* Great straps

* Nice features that are thought out with a few exceptions

Cons:

* Sometimes a little too stiff

* Side compartments are small and access to main pack is awkward/useless

* Internal dividers are set up nice but can waste some space

* Some features are not too thought out while others are (a pro and con)

* TIGHT laptop storage

The material is very sturdy. This backpack doesn't feel like it will ever rip and I am sure it is cut resistant. Anybody trying to get at your gear will have a tough time, sometimes even you! I have a Canon 7d that I leave a EF 24-70mm F2.8 L lens attached and at first, I wanted to make it accessible through the side compartment. That is not going to happen, especially with the lens hood stored as Canon suggests. There is a flap that separates the side compartment from the main compartment that has Velcro which makes it so things do not fall into the side compartment but also makes it almost impossible to use as a quick camera access. In addition, the side zippers only open half way so there is no way you will get a bigger SLR out fast. You have to put it in so it can be accessed by the main zipper. It is still tight because the top of the bag is so thick and the zippers are tight due to the weatherproofing. A pro and a con.

I also store a 70-200mm f4.0 is L lens in the bag. The bag is pretty deep so you naturally end up stacking stuff which makes it a little hard to get to stuff but the lens is protected very well. It is not deep enough to put the lens in upright so again, it lays down with either a flash or a computer power cord on it. Not exactly a fast access to either because as the laws of the universe dictate, the thing you need will always be on the bottom.

As far as a laptop, it looks like you could store two in the compartment but don't be fooled. Again, the bag stiffness prevents two and almost makes it hard to get in one. The zipper on the compartment does not open to access the entire top so the laptop is hard in and hard out. It is very tight. I don't consider my laptop to be very big but if it were any thicker or wider, there is no way it would fit. The nice thing is, once it is in there, it is protected like you had armor around it, which is the positive theme of the bag.

A really cool thing is the cover that goes over the straps when you are not using the backpack portion. They are entirely enclosed under the zipper cover which is great for the overhead on planes. There are no straps to tuck in the overhead compartment and close in the compartment door on the plane. The cover then tucks up under a back flap to expose the straps which are very comfortable. Again, an issue is, when the backpack is loaded, it is so tight that it is actually hard to slide the cover up under the pack in its proper position. One nice thing would be to have the cover start zipping up over the bottom of the strap so you could keep one strap out to use it as a sling for carrying it in situations where you want to use one strap for fast carrying. With my previous bag, I used the one shoulder carry a lot.

The inside zipper compartments are nice but again, tight. You can't fit too much in them. Temba should have allowed a little more material but it may be so stuff does not slide around. B+W filters in cases are actually tight in the compartments. They do have a great feature which is they zipper open/closed from both sides, left and right so there is no digging around in them.

I don't want to sound negative on the pack, it is an incredible bag. Like I mentioned in the pros, it is super tough. You can tell they spared no expense with the water proofing. I would have no problem caught in a downpour with this thing. Your gear is VERY well protected which is most important to me. When you have over 5k sitting in a bag, you don't want it to be unprotected. I am sure the gear inside could survive small falls.

Would I recommend the bag. Simply put, yes. I don't think the "perfect" bag exists. It can't because if you are like me, you want something magical that defies the laws of physics. I want to be able to put 50 pounds of gear including a tripod in a very small pack and in the end, have it weigh 10 pounds. It is not going to happen. With no magical pack available, this is the closest you will come if you want to carry a lot of stuff and have it well protected from the elements, the occasional drop, the elements and the opportunistic person that wants your gear. Overall, good job Temba for trying to satisfy us semi-pros that want it all. I would buy this again.

Just like the previous review, I considered going with the large bag but definitely changed my mind when I got this one. It's the perfect size to hold all my gear, laptop and still have room.

As far as laptops go, it will hold some 17" laptops. My toshiba satellite 17" fits (tight, but I like that because it feels secure). My girlfriends 17" Dell doesn't quite make it because it has the 9 cell battery that sticks out an extra half inch on the bottom baking it too thick to fit.

Camera gear and accessories inside the bag:

* Nikon D90 (usually configured with the 18-105 f3.5-5.6 attached)

* Nikon 70-300mm f4.5-5.6 vr

* Nikon 50mm f1.8 + soft hood

* Tokina 12-24mm f4 (w/ 77mm hood)

* Nikon SB-600

* Camera battery charger

* AA battery charger

* Laptop charger

* 3.5" external hard drive

... And there's still room for either a couple more small lenses or an extra flash.

Without the laptop in it, I'm comfortable carrying the bag for quite a while. Would be a great bag to take hiking. For me, I don't use the "shoot-out" zips on the side, just because I find it awkward reaching behind me for a lens; and the last thing I want to do is drop any of my precious lenses.

The weather resistant zippers are a little tight at first use, but they get easier to use without any noticeable reduction in water resistance. For rainy days, the built in all weather cover is great, completely covering the bag. And another thing I didn't realize before I got the bag, it has a flap (tucks away when not in use) that completely zips around the backpack straps making the entire bag slick without straps dangling everywhere. I find this particularly useful when moving moving the bag to the car (so the buckles don't scratch up the paint) and storing the bag at home (so the straps aren't there to trip over.

All in all an excellent bag and I'd highly recommend it to anybody looking for one that can hold as much gear as it does.

I purchased this bag to hold all of my camera gear for college and couldn't be happier with it! I was a little worried while waiting for it to arrive that I should have went with the large model but as soon as it got here I changed my mind. This bag is VERY well built and sturdy with loads of storage space. To give you an idea on how much it holds I can store my Canon 5D, 16-35mm f/2.8L II, 24-70mm f/2.8L USM, 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM, my 580EX flash, multiple filters, cords, brushes, and my laptop supplies and I still have about half the bag left to fill. It is also very comfortable to carry around and distributes the weight very well, all in all I would definitely buy this product again and I highly recommend it!

I just picked up my first really long lens 70-200 2.8 nikkor and have woken up in a new world as far as storage goes. Between air travel and enjoying outdoor photography I want a backpack no reason to have a tack sharp lens to walk around town you want to take little photo-safari's.

So I'm reading about a lot of packs some from naneau pro look nice but they're not in stock and not carried at local dealers. Lowe pro has some good ones too but the ones they have big enough for a longer lens are either too big or don't have a laptop sleeve.

The Tenba bag is a big bag you watch the video and it looks pretty small. The thing that hits me is that the insert is equally tall all the way around obvious if you want to carry two bodies, but I only have one body and would like to carry something besides camera stuff in my bag for travel I like to go light and carry everything on. This thing won't go under the seat and I'm concerned about being tagged with two carry on items as large as this thing is.

It's going to be a challenge to fit this in a turbo-prop overhead but you can use the compression straps to slim down the top of the bag if you remove one of the vertical ribs and turn that horizontal. The point is that this bag is so wide that I can turn my camera with 20-700 mounted horizontally and make the top of the bag mine for stuff. Hopefully that will help me fit it in the overhead. Fingers crossed, cause I'm not about to check $$$$$ worth of camera and computer equipment.

You know, there is no perfect backpack that I've seen. It seems like at this size, everyone assumes you are going to have so much crap that you're going to dedicate your bag to photography alone. For those of you like me that want something non-descript to avoid the watchful eye of thieves, have enough space for gear and more, have some weather proofing options and some really nice waist belt padding (which as a long-time hiker is really appreciated) you're going to have a hard time finding a better option.

Four stars for matching my needs, but five stars when compared with what else is out there.

Good luck!

I was searching for a backpack that matched my specs. -specs I had developed before starting my hunt. I wanted a simple and balanced tripod attachment system. Also preferred having a removeable insert and definitely needed the hip belt. I needed to support a two camera system with lenses and flashes.

When I reviewed each of the major brands none of them had all my requirements. Most seemed a little too small, few had removeable inserts and a number of them did not have good enough padded hip belts.

Then, I came across the Tenba range of bags and they are just about perfect for my needs. There are however a couple minor complaints.

1. The insert allows access via the side pockets. I can see no real practical purpose for this "feature" as I'm not going to feel my way through retrieving a valuable lens that way. As a result of this feature, the bottom section cannot be divided up using the velcro dividers as there is no outer wall of the insert in this location. This means for me the space remains about right for a 70-200 2.8 lens but cannot be further divided to take a couple flashes or smaller lenses.

2. I wasn't happy with the lack of practical media/power management. I continue to use a couple tamrac battery/media wallets to keep those items organised.

3. Lack of D rings on the backpack straps. They should have allowed a way to attach an SLR to these straps to keep one camera locked and loaded during lighter hikes.

Having said all that, this bag is as close to perfection as if I'd designed it exactly to my own specification. I also have Tamrac shoulder bags so using their battery management wallets is practical for me.

The removeable raincover is great and the fact that the straps can be hidden behind a smooth cover is very practical for keeping the straps clean and out of the way when packed into airplane overhead lockers and even in the trunk of the car.

The laptop compartment hold the laptop safely and snugly. I've fitted Acer and Dell 15" units with no problem but I feel it's a better fit for Dell 14" models.

I'd recommend this to anyone and I may even get the small unit for lighter use.

Large Drawstring Backpack by Augusta Sportswear (in 12 colors, Style# 175)

Augusta-Large Drawstring Backpack~BlackI bought two of these for my son. He picked orange and green. They are great for his first year of high school because you are not allowed to bring in regular knapsacks and he needs something to carry his books in while riding his bike to school. So far (two weeks) he's been using the green one and it is holding up very well. Last year we bought one from a local store and it broke half way through the school year. These appear to be better quality for a lot less in price. Very happy with the purchase, so far.

We purchased about 50 of these for a company event. Given the price, we considered these an extremely good value. I would not buy one of these for everyday use, but for a short term corporate event, they are fairly good. The ropes that go around the shoulder can come untied, but they are easily repaired. They are water-proof and very sturdy.

My school requires us to use drawstring backpacks, at the beginning of the year I had this very cheaply made drawstring backpack. It ripped quickly so I needed another new, better bag. And then I found this one! I got in it in black (when they had black available). It's very nice and big, fits 2 of my textbooks and some workbooks. I've been using it constantly since September and it's held up well, just ripped a little recently so I've been going lighter on it. Less textbooks. The one thing that annoys me is the strings are slightly thin. But not too thin like my old bag. So it doesn't hurt much, but I would like bigger strings. Otherwise, it was the best money I spent. Most definitely worth it.

I bought 2 Addidas and a Jordan string back pack for my new middle school son and they didn't last a week. They have to carry so much that they were too small and the seams and strings didn't hold up. He has now had these great string bags for over a month. He can use just one bag to carry everything and they a really strong and lined so nothing it popping out. Definitely will order more!

iCarly Black "Rockin' the Look" Messenger Bag

iCarly Black 'Rockin' the Look' Messenger BagMy daughter loves i-Carly, so that wasn't the problem. It is a cute bag. However, it simply has to do with the fact that a messenger bag is harder to tote around than a back pack for a little kid. So, before making the purchase of this messenger bag, stop at a local store and have your kid try one on and walk around with it to make sure their comfortable with the weight being on their side and not on their back.

Belkin 15.4-Inch Messenger Bag (Jet/Cabernet)

Belkin 15.4-Inch Messenger BagThis is a great bag if all you need to carry is your laptop and few other small items. I am using it for a 15.4" MacBook Pro, a second generation iPod Nano, WD Passport HD, a few cables, USB thumb drive. Also, a few pieces of paper. I'd never be able to add a text book or anything like that. It's exactly what I was looking for. It's small, light and the strap that goes over your shoulder is very wide. I haven't had to carry this for a long period of time yet, but I am sure it will be nice. I used to have a laptop bag with a smaller strap and after a couple hours of travel (airport etc) my should would hurt. With this bag I don't think that'll be a problem.

UPDATE (Jan 18th, 2010) I have had this bag for a few years now. I can report that carrying this bag for long periods of time does not cause pain in my shoulder, even loaded up and heavy. The strap is wide enough that the pressure is low.

I feel it's well built, feels solid. There are a few different pockets, but they are all a little small, so I'm not sure what use they are. The area the laptop rests is lined with a very soft velvet like material. I wish the MP3 player slot was the same, but it's not, it's the same material as the rest of the bag. Also, the main zipper only unzips halfway, so that if you are wearing the bag and you unzip it, the laptop will not fall out. This is a great feature when you are at the airport and you need to remove it etc. It keeps your bag from flapping open and spilling your stuff everywhere. There is a quick access pocket in the back that is perfect for storing paperwork, tickets, confirmation info for your rental car etc. Finally, a nice handle on top, if you want to carry it without using the strap. The strap is not removable...for me, I like that, but for some that may be bothersome.

Pros:

Small, Lightweight

Fits my MacBook Pro 15.4" Perfectly

Good Build Quality Excellent Quality even after a few years of use.

Wide Strap to keep from hurting your shoulder. Verified after years of use.

Nice lined laptop area

Does not unzip 100%, so that your stuff does not fall out.

Cons:

MP3 player pocket not lined like the laptop pocket.

(For some) non-removable strap.

Strap gets in way of back pocket sometimes.

Front pocket not really usable.

I purchased the Belkin 15" Messenger Bag because I thought it looked nice and because I prefer messenger style bags in general over briefcase or backpack designs. I find the Belkin bag to be a really good value, but I do have some nitpicks.

First, I have a Dell 15.4" laptop with a 9-cell battery. The 9-cell protrudes out from the back of the laptop and adds about an inch to the depth. It does fit in the Belkin case okay. However, because the padded compartment for the laptop rests slightly under the main zipper, I'm paranoid that the zipper teeth will scratch the laptop. I live with it by putting the bottom of the laptop towards the back of the case. I'm able to throw my AC adapter in along with it and it's somewhat of a snug fit.

Inside, there are 2 pen pockets, 2 card pockets, and 2 larger general pockets. There is also one smaller zippered pocket that runs along the top of the case, which looks large enough to put cables in. Oddly, the outside has one large zippered pocket that does not go through the inside of the case at all. The headphone passthrough can only be accessed from the zippered OUTSIDE pocket. This means you can only put your audio player in the outside pocket, which offers less protection for your god-knows-how-expensive music player.

Though the zippers work well and have a nice plastic colored pulls that matches the case, I wish the material was less slippery. A rubber coated one may have made zipping and unzipping a bit easier. Also, I wish that the strap were attached to 360 degree moving hinges and that it were removable.

All in all, it's a decent bag for the money. It's no Tumi bag, but of course the Belkin costs hundreds less.

This bag is the most comfortable that I've had. It fits my 15" HP laptop along with the cord and adaptor, over-ear headphones, portable Seagate external hard drive and case, and kensington laptop cord-lock. I especially like the velvet lined laptop compartment; there is no chance of the surface getting scratched. There is even a zippered compartment in the back to store the shoulder strap when you want to use the handles instead. Additionally, there is a slot in the front in which to access your headphones without removing your mp3 or ipod from the case. An important note: this bag isn't the dark expresso brown as shown in the picture. It's more of a chocolate brown, and the blue is a bit more grey as well.

I love the look of this bag and it fits my Macbook Pro perfectly. The power cord pouch is extremely helpful, and I love the fact that there is a handle on top of the bag so I can carry around as a briefcase. The only problem I have with the bag is that the shoulder strap is too short for me with it extended all the way. I am 5"7 and I am a little busty and I have found that the strap is very short I tend to like my messenger bags to sit just below by hip. This bag sits at my waist just above my hip and feels a little confining. I had my mother try it on and she is 5"4 and overweight by about 75lbs and this bag was short on her as well but it did come down to to her hip. So, I have been carrying it around by the handle or I don't put it across my chest.

A great bag for a good price! This bag is sturdy, comfortable, fabulous looking, and light weight. I have a Dell Inspiron 1420 and it fits great in the extra padded area. I think a 15in would fit well, too, but my computer doesn't slide around, either. I would definitely recommend this bag to anyone who wants a laptop bag that's both cute and functional, and actually has room for all the extras without being huge.

But lucky for us, she isn't that label/brand conscious and just wanted the same look, etc. and she was very happy with this bag. Nice quality and a perfect size; not too small but not too big either. Overall, a great buy and I might have to look for another one for myself soon!

I love the backpack purse for the times I need my hands free and use it for times we go to theme parks, fairs, etc. It's not practical for daily use for me but it's largely because it isn't professional-looking for my work, but I didn't buy it expecting to be, so it's not a negative. I do LOVE the service however, it is very fast and the two items I have purchased arrived quickly with no problems whatsoever.

I bought this packpack for the color and style of the bag. It is very similar to Vera Bradley and is an affordable alternative. Quality is very good. I use it every day. I'm very happy with my purchase.

This pretty medium sized backpack is absolutely the perfect size for me. I am in a wheelchair full time. One of the staples for a person in a chair is a good backpack. Its really hard as an adult woman to find anything remotely feminine. So when I saw this, I gave no second thoughts and purchased it. It meets all my daily needs. Plus its very well made, washable-unlike most backpacks, lightweight and can hold everything I need to put in it, especially for traveling. I have recieved numerous compliments regarding my backpack and where to get one.

I was very disapointed. I am a petite 13 year old who is not even 100 pounds, and this is like a BABY backpack! It is the size of the preschool backpacks. I cannot even fit one book in it, and i am returning it. I just got the extra large tote belvah bag, but i didnt get it yet. Unless your child is in 1st grade, i would not recommend this.

Ninewest Luggage 9 Element 20 Inch Wheeled Bowler Bag

Ninewest Luggage 9 Element 20 Inch Wheeled Bowler Bag, Brown/Tan, One SizePurchased to do traveling retirement. Love the handle-even while using as carry on...hides away and isn't too heavy to lift. Beautiful as a 3rd piece with the set.

Skip Hop Zoo Backpack and Lunchie- Frog

Skip Hop Zoo Backpack and Lunchie- FrogThis is very cute and durable, but it's too small for a folder. We bought this as a first backpack for preschool. We are returning it so we can find one that everything will fit in. It would make a great diaper bag for a toddler that you don't need to pack many items for.

Absolutely love this for my nephew! He was so proud to carry it to his first day of Church Summer school!

I love the Skip Hop Backpacks. I purchased 2 Skip Hop Backpacks previously for my other kids and loved them so much, I decided to buy another one for my 3rd child. I use these bags as diaper bags initially and they last thru pre-school years, so they are durable. I haven't used the lunch boxes much, but I do use the backpacks daily. The only reason for the backpack only lasting thru pre-school is because my son is entering kindergarden and moving up to a larger big kid backpack. The backpack is still usable and in fairly decent shape.

This back pack and lunch box combo has gotten more compliments than anything else I have bought my son. He is 2 and LOVES carrying around his little back pack like a "big boy." Fits all his stuff, and the design is just plain adorable. Ive even had adults ask me where I got it so they could purchase for themselves!

Angry Birds Star Wars Rolling Backpack 06493

Angry Birds Star Wars Rolling Backpack 06493I ordered three rolling back packs for my children to use in the airport as their carryon item. The one was for my 5.5 year old. It was easy for him to pull and carry. It had ample amount of storage space and he loved the angry birds design. That said it was less quality than the other two back packs I purchased. There was no where for the straps to be put away so they dragged on the floor when it was rolling. Since we were moving the day after I received it I couldn't do an exchange, but the front design was ripped upon arrival. Now the whole front pocket is ripped as well and the back pack has had limited use. It was the only angry birds in space pack that I could find and it's really sad how poor the quality is. If design isn't important go with a a different pack.

Monty Python Toy Vault Black Knight Backpack

Monty Python Toy Vault Black Knight BackpackI bought this for my daughter, a new Monty Python fan! She absolutely loves it! We both wish it was bigger to really hold her books and binders but she loved it so much, she was happy to just carry her lunch and small things. It really should be larger however, wider so it can hold more stuff like a true backpack.

The only other thing we did not like is that the zipper is very flimsy. Our's broke after just one day as it is not too sturdy at all. I looked to see if I could just remove it and put in a new zipper but soon realized I would have to take it all apart and it would prove to be very difficult to do, much less impossible and even more difficult to put it back together. So solution? I just sewed on a new zipper right over the old one. I had measured around the top lid and got a zipper the right matching length and then sewed it right on. It is much more sturdy now and it has held up well. You can't really tell it has another zipper on it as it blends in well....

Just a flesh wound!! hehehe

A few of her teachers recognized it and laughed and love it! My daughter uses it alot but mostly to hold her lunch. She loves it and it is hysterical to see her walk up the street towards the bus with it on her back.

Bought it as a prop for a halloween costume, and have used it for lots of other events. Always gets second looks, great comments, and everyone LOVES it and recognizes it for what it is!

Only problem is that the zipper did give out after a few uses, but I was drinking and a little rough on the ole' black knight.

Eagle Creek Packable Daypack

Eagle Creek Packable Daypack, BlackI compared this to NEW Ultralight Travel Daypack / Backpack The Perfect Light Weight Daypack For Sightseeing, Hiking, Biking & Travel Super Durable & Comfortable Yet Only 6.5 oz and believe this is the better product. Its capacity is greater than stated, the fabric and construction is durable, and it folds flat and will fit in my pocket.

I owned the predecessor to this packable day pack -saw it several years ago in a well known bookstore in Portland Oregon and bought it on the spot. Since then, I've retired all my various messenger bags, backpacks, briefcases, etc. in favor of this extremely lightweight, packable day pack. It has held up well over about 3 years, despite nearly daily use and over-packing. Nothing has really failed -there are a few spots where friction on a sidewalk or wall wore some small holes when it hit the dirt with a full load, but its fairly good quality ripstop nylon, so the holes are small and not a concern.

I bought the new version because a disintegrating chocolate bar left inside in the heat is going to require some major cleaning. The latest version is slightly improved -the back pocket (which is slightly smaller than the old version) now has a straight across zipper. The old pocket had a U-shaped zipper that you had to meticulously close at the risk of having things drop out without notice. The main pocket now has a small rain gusset covering the zipper -looks neater although I doubt whether it makes the bag significantly more waterproof. The fabric is non-waterproofed ripstop nylon, so if you drop it in the lake, it may float for a while, but things inside are going to get wet. The shoulder straps are slightly improved and are now made of more breathable mesh.

The best part is that it weighs nearly nothing and will pack into a small zippered pocket the size of a pack of cigarettes. I personally think that it is ridiculous to spend $70 $100 bucks on a day pack that has 17 pockets, a 1 gallon water bottle pocket, and an ice axe loop just to go to the store or to work. If I'm going 15 miles from the trail head and heading for the alpine meadows, sure, I want a technical day pack or better. But for running around town, this is great.

Minor beef: I ordered this in blue, got black instead. Not worth exchanging, but be aware. Also Amazon may be displaying the wrong picture. This does not look like a duffel, but is a day pack.

For years I've taken a light 8-oz 12"x16"x6" Wilderness Experience pack with me on trips as a convenient day pack capable of being rolled up and stored in carry-on luggage. This size is just right for carrying an extra camera lens for my SLR, and adding in a light jacket, lunch, and a pocket umbrella. I've been unsuccessful in trying to replace my 30-year-old pack until recently, when I discovered the Eagle Creek Packable Daypack. It's an exact match in size (12"x16"x6") and has a similar 6"x7" single outer pocket for knickknacks like spare SD cards and camera batteries, lens filters, and small camera accessories. What's better, the Eagle Creek pack only weighs 6 1/2 oz, yet it's very well made of modestly-heavy black nylon fabric with dual high-quality metal-pull Nylon-tooth zippers. I just returned from 5 weeks in India using it every day while touring temples and museums. I found my old pack (same size) also perfect for trekking in Nepal when the porters had our main luggage. So, for both light day hikes and foreign day trips it's a great size...it also easily caries my 10" netbook computer if I want to take it on the plane or to a hotel-lobby hotspot. As an added attraction, the pack has really comfortable mesh shoulder straps...a big improvement on my old pack. Note, however, that the fabric is not waterproof...but neither was my old pack. I highly recommend it as a light travel daypack.

This is a great extra day bag. LIGHTWEIGHT was a priority.

Not good as a full time backpack, that is not what is intended.

Useful for extra stuff or day trips, not a lot of pockets, but good total room inside.

Looks good....most inexpensive day bags look like crap.

Packs into itself, lightweight.

Good price.

Eagle Creek quality.

I like this backpack and it would be perfect if it had a bottle holder on the side.

It is light weight, durable and holds a lot for a day hike.

I have another similar to it by EagleCreek with the bottle holder and didn't notice when I ordered this one that it didn't have it on the side.

These bags last and last and last.

I wonder if I could have one sewn on...maybe when in Asia. It's much cheaper to go to a tailor there.

Eagle Creek, please put the bottle holder back on this backpack!

FCS Stash Premium Surf Backpack 20L - Black

FCS Stash Premium Surf Backpack 20L - BlackI'm not reviewing the quality of the backpack. I'm just writing a review to alert you that this item is not the one in the picture..

I bought this because I wanted a black backpack, but I received a Charcoal (color) one and of a different model!!! The model of the bag I received is the new one, you can check out on fcs official website.. I believe (just a guess here) that the picture is of an old model..

However, the BC Surf & Sport's E-commerce Director answered my message making sure they would rectify the situation and compensate me for the inconvenience. I am very satisfied with their service after all.
