DAKINE Quest Pack

Just got back from a month-long trip across the Atlantic with this pack -3 countries, 2 continents, 6 flights, and too many subway, bus, taxi, and ferry/boat rides to count. Overall, love it -best all-in pack that I've found.

During travels I carried:

15.6" laptop + charger (a large brick)

Canon 5D Mark II

5 lenses (35mm (mounted), 70-200mm, 50mm, 15mm, 16-35mm

Kindle

Tons of accessories (lens hoods, extra HDD, extra batteries, cables, international power plug adapters, magazines, etc.

Full-size tripod

Water bottle

Rain coat

Pack weighed 26 lbs (12 kg) total (without water). Once I got to my destinations, I obviously only explored with camera gear and left other stuff at the hotels.

Pros:

Fits a ton of gear -many smaller pockets to securely store money, passports, boarding passes, etc.

Quite comfortable to carry so much gear for long periods of time. I walked around 10 hours a day on average everyday with almost no discomfort or pain.

Side-access to camera compartment means I can swing it around to change lenses when I'm out shooting -this was critical for me.

Pack stands up straight when left on the floor (unlike my Lowerpro Vertex pack which tends to topple over).

Was rainproof enough for light drizzle without the rain cover.

Cons:

The stiff padded part of the waist strap curves OUT for some reason. So instead of curving around the waist, it sticks out on either side (and because it's stiff, cannot reshape it). This is quite a hassle when walking in narrow areas, e.g. airplane aisles, crowded subways, and really any place with a lot of people, because the sides keep getting caught. Towards the end of the trip I ended up taking the waist strap section off completely.

The camera compartment is a bit tight. So getting lenses in and out can be a struggle at times (especially towards the bottom of the pack).

The shoulder straps only adjust from the bottom -so it's hard to get the pack to stay snug against the shoulder. Wish the straps adjusted at the shoulder/neck, so I could cinch it up top and not have the pack sag. Using the chest strap helps alleviate this problem somewhat.

The waist straps are really long and there are no loops to "store" them -so they just dangle and flap around a l-o-n-g way.

The included rain cover takes up the space intended for a water bottle -so when using water bottle, I had to find another place for the cover (essentially wasting one storage area). A Lowepro-like solution would have been better, where the rain cover is attached to the pack and folds away underneath the pack.

The rain cover was loose when the pack wasn't bulging full and fell off a few times. Ended up not using it for light rain (but pack did fine).

Tripod is carried on the side, making the pack a bit lopsided. Carrying on the back would have been better for weight distribution.

A few more loops overall (to attach carabiners and carry other stuff) would have been nice.

I know the cons looks like a lot, but they're mostly nits/hassles, no major functional problems. Love the pack in general. Does exactly what I needed it to do. I'd tried the Tamrac Evolution 9 before, but it was very uncomfortable to wear for even 30 minutes (the straps are horrible), so I returned it (even though the camera compartment was roomier). This Dakine pack is going to serve me quite well for a long time.

Ordered this backpack to travel with my 15" MBP and camera equipment. Great bag that has padded compartments that are customize-able. Was able to fit my Canon Mark III, 70-200mm, 50mm, and 85mm lenses with room to spare. NIce to have a separate compartment for personal items. Laptop compartment has a lined sleeve to protect the laptop but with a 15" MBP, a part of it sticks out past the sleeve, leaving it exposed. Wished it would cover the whole laptop. Waist strap helps distribute weight but the bag fully loaded is quite heavy for me. Still really like the bag and would recommend it.

This backpack is completely ADORABLE and the photo provided doesn't do it justice!!! The cording all around the backpack is done in bright pink glittery/shiny piping and the contrasting turquoise and yellow zippers give it that extra special detail. I hope you've read all of these details, because the photo doesn't show all of these great, colorful features and the description is lack-luster. I would recommend this backpack to anyone that has a Monster High fan in their household. This backpack is so cute that I'd give it 10+ stars, if possible!!!!

Phineas and Ferb Boys Black "Lets Get This Party Started" Backpack

The material used for this backpack is very cheap, and the zipper broke one day after we received it. My second-grader picked this for his back-to-school backpack. You may be thinking that he was perhaps a bit too rough with the zipper, but I can assure you this was not the case. I was talking to him as he was loading his new backpack up with school supplies. The zipper appeared to be stuck as he went to close it, he gave a little tug, and that was the end of that. I suggest spending a little more cash on a better quality Phineas & Ferb backpack, if your child is a fan of the show, like mine. It'll be worth it in the long run.

I bought this back pack for my son going into first grade next month, so he hasn't used but he loves and can't wait to wear it! Good deal for what I paid and no cheap quality! :)

Brenthaven Duo 15 Backpack for Notebooks up to 15"

The Brenthaven Duo is a striking backpack. It exudes quality with its high-end materials, serious-looking zippers and heavy stitching. The bag has three main compartments: laptop, notes, front.

Your laptop lies securely in a heavily padded pocket which even pads the opening when you zip the compartment shut.

The notes compartments is very tall and very thin. You can put 2-3 notebooks in there and slide smaller equipment into the flat long pockets that are on its side. There is not much room in here for anything beyond that. I was able to squeeze in a folded umbrella, two notebooks and very small folders, nothing more. If you want to take full-size noise-canceling headphones with you, well, there's no room here.

The front compartment has room for pens and pencils, MP3 player and other miscellanea. For a front compartment, this is a decent sized one.

Two additional pockets exist in the bag:

Under the front pocket a pretty expansive pocket is used for cables, power supplies and the such. Above the front compartment a small pocket can be used for sunglasses and other small items.

The straps are wide and thin without much padding, but are very comfortable. I truly believe part of the comfort the bag provides lies in the fact that it forces you to carry less stuff around with you. Carrying less, it weighs less, and a lighter bag is more comfortable.

Still, if there is one backpack that looks respectable with a suit, or around people wearing suits and carrying briefcases, this is it.

I purchased this backpack due to its CORE protection system. As commented in a previous review, it is a rather wide backpack. Much less flex in the outer shell than a 'normal' backpack. Although I like the built-in CORE protection, I'm may get a Brenthaven expandable Trek backpack for everyday use. It does not have the CORE system, but does have more pockets and a more standard backpack form factor. I'm thinking this backpack will serve me well for travel.

Everything on this bag is as described, but be aware that it is quite wide, and looks more like a ninja turtle shell than a computer bag. Once you realize that, it is an awesome bag and protects your costly machine with great ease, as well as hoists your other goodies around with you.

This laptop backpack is a great product. I had an incident with my previous laptop backpack when it was accidently knocked out of the overhead luggage compartment in an aircraft. Fortunately my laptop survived but was damaged. I decided I needed a better backpack that provided better protection and began investigating the numerous backpacks available. This Brenthaven backpack does just that, provides great protection. It is a high quality bag offering superior protection, all they space needed for incidentals and looks good to boot.

I've watched this bag for some time, waiting patiently for orange. I think I was the first to get this color when it came available, because I was backordered for a week or so. My only trepidation, with all of the safety features, I feared it would be way too heavy to travel with, light traveler that I am. Was I wrong! The weight is perfect. The safety features are perfect, big enough to carry everything I need for a day's wandering the streets of Athens or Rome or little Sicilian villages--Kindle, guide books and maps, just-in-case rainponcho, water bottle. RFID blocking keeps passport and credit cards safe. Locking zipper and slashproof sides and adjustable strap, just enough pockets to find stuff in. An outside water bottle pocket would be the only improvement on perfection I can see. And the orange is the purse-nappers-wouldn't-dare orange that goes with everything else I travel with.

It worked fine and I don't think I could find anything closer for what I needed. I wanted it for my ipad (which was a tight fit even with a close fitting cover on the ipad) wallet, lipstick etc. My husband carried the camera in his pacsafe bag.

The crossbody /fabric/all worked great. I loved the security of the strap that could be attached to chairs etc. It was the best I could find but not exactly the size I needed. Close enough. Definitely a travel purse though-not enough style for around town.

It does a great job at protecting the laptop and it fits great. But I wouldn't recommend this color, I used it one day at school and it got so dirty! I've had other light cases before and handled them the same way but they didn't get as dirty as this case got in just ONE day! I would recommend this case to anyone but not this color, especially if you'll be handling it a lot.

I purchased this on Monday and it came on Thursday. It is very nice and soft, I can tell it protects my computer, but it smells so bad. It smells like chemicals and I had to leave it outside over night to make sure it was not too toxic. I like it now that it does not smell. I would recommend someone else to buy this.

I had the good fortune to be able to use a HP Envy Spectre ultrabook a few months ago, and the PC came with a perfectly fitted neoprene sleeve to protect it.

I have always tended to get the zip-type cases or sleeves, but the HP one was a simple foldover design.

More recently, I acquired a Toshiba Portege 13" ultrabook, and it did not come with a custom sleeve, but I wanted one like the HP Spectre sleeve.

This ain't quite that, but it's close and I'm happy with it.

It's a little bit roomy (all directions) for the Portege, which is razor-thin, but the fit is pretty good. The foldover action works fine and it's quite easy to slip the Portege in and out of the sleeve.

One thing I did notice was that it does have a very strong odor for the first several days, but that fades.

All in all, it's a good case for the price and provides a good (though not great) fit for a thin 13" ultrabook.

EDIT: Also tried the case with a Dell XPS13 ultrabook. The XPS has a smaller footprint, but is a little thicker than the Portege. It actually is quite small inside the case, with at least 1" on all sides excess space. The XPS 13 promotes itself as having the same footprint as an 11" ultrabook, so if you have the XPS13, you may find this case to be too large.

Because I have a number of laptops and electronics I like to carry with me, almost daily, I was looking for a backpack that would allow me to carry my 15" Unibody MacBook Pro as well as my iPad 2. Based on the description of this backpack, I thought I found the perfect product. After receiving the product, I quickly realized that it isn't possible to use this backpack with the 15" MacBook Pro because it isn't large enough. Well, that isn't really the worst thing about this backpack. The other issue is that you aren't able to get as many accessories in the bag that would be considered a minimum requirement for power supply, external USB mouse, and other associated devices. Because I didn't pay as much for the backpack, I'm not totally disappointed but if I had paid full price for it, I would certainly return it.

I used this backpack for a couple of months, then gave it away and bought a Swiss Gear instead. This product has good iPad protection with a handy pocket that zips off to carry it in. I never actually used it. The main problem I had was there was very little storage space and very few pockets which for me is the whole reason to go with a backpack. The other minor flaw I found annoying was how narrow this pack is so that every time you set it down it falls over. I bought the backpack to carry more than just my notebook and iPad. I already have computer cases for that. I needed additional room for a Trapper Keeper notebook and 1-2 textbooks (but pencils, graphics calculators and other 'stuff'). This is a no-go with this backpack. It is simply way too small. You can expect to fit 1 binder and 1 large textbook and that it it. Like another reviewer, I gave it away and bought a larger Swiss Gear which has tons of room for everything.

So far I am liking this backpack. I have a 15.4" lenovo with a screen that measures 17" diagonal and a iPad 2. I could not get the laptop to fit in the spot where it goes. Very frustrating. The. I noticed at the bottom of the computer storage area was an extra padding with Velcro that I pulled out. There was still a padded area on the bottom below this area and the computer fit just barely.

The area where the iPad goes is nice. Keeps it from moving around at all. It just may need a little more padding at the front of that storage compartment. Also would have been nice If that compartment fit magazines. They can go in there but it will not zip closed. So you need to store your magazines in the big compartment.

Water bottle storage on one side is nice. Might be nice to have one on the other side also.

Pouches on the inside of big compartment are not very useful.

The detachable mini bag, while intended for tablets, is a perfect daybag for running around town. I put my Cocoon 'Grid-It' (7.5 inch x 10.5 inch) inside the mini bag, and it holds all my daily essentials wallet, smartphone, sunglasses, keys, hat, etc in place. When I go back to work Monday, I zip the mini bag onto the main backpack and head out the door. The main backback is solid. It holds my laptop plus coffee thermos, lunch containers, work papers, even gym clothes! And with room to spare. Unzip the side pocket for an umbrella holder. My one gripe would be the clear plastic film on the underside of the right arm makes the arm strap stiff and uncomfortable. Easy fix for this just use scissors to snip the plastic film off the arm and it will become flexible again. So, overall a well built bag with two-bags-in-one functionality you just can't beat.

I really wanted a small-ish knapsack and this fits the bill, size-wise. I get lots of comments on the bright color! Drawbacks: the side pockets don't fasten, so the rain can get in and/or stuff might fall out too bad, because that's where I'd like to stash my phone and my MetroCard. Rothco Flexipack Molle Tactical Shoulder Bag - Coyote

I bought this for my patrol belt (aka battle belt) which I where when I hike. It has a roomy main pouch with a drawstring closure to keep the contents dry, a zipper closure mid-pocket that is decent size, and an outer open top pocket that is narrow but is also inside the buckled closure. It does come with the shoulder strap in the picture but I've never used it, I just stuffed it in the slit pocket all the way on the back.

It has the MOLLE attachement straps and they are a little difficult but you get a decent attachment to whatever platform you are hooking up to. I was wearing it on my patrol belt over the summer when I went hiking and though it was a little bulkly it carried my Frog Togg poncho, a Datrex package, my binoculars, a Poptart, matches, bug spray, wet ones, etc. Yeah you can stuff this thing. Also I now have it attached to my Fox Advanced Mountaineering Pack. It makes for great external storage so I don't have to dig through my ruck to get frequently used items.

I highly recommend this bag.

Not bad for the price and shipping (Go Commando Gear). More than enough room for an EDC item. I also have the UTG multi-functional bag. This bag is slightly less identifiable as the "Look! I carry a gun!" bag. If you need an EDC bag, this is one is great for shorter term (time wise). If you're going to be carrying a bag on a hike, you may be interested in the one I mentioned above, from UTG, since it has more padding and a place to carry a water bottle. Either bag is great to own.

I got this backpack after having a previous Ogio backpack that lasted for 4 years. Within 3 months, the inside seams started to rip near the top in between the two compartments, the bottom on the sides, and in the laptop compartment. Very disappointed.

Bright Ideas RBP1 Reflective Backpack

I bought this backpack for when I ride my scooter to work. I really like how reflective it is, yet it's not so overpowering that I look like a safety nut. It has reflective patches in all the right places, and it holds a lot of stuff. I like all the different zipped areas. I think if there was any downside, it would be that the zippers are a little hard to get at on the biggest portion of the backpack because of the fabric that overlaps that part. Otherwise, great backpack for the price.

The Bright Ideas RBP is an excellent product for anyone who rides motorcycles (especially government employees)! Finding a better alternative for a better price would definitely be a challenge. Its nice because the outside is black with reflective material in all the right places. Its also big enough to hold books, papers, a laptop, a tennis racquet, or even groceries! Its even got a belly strap not shown in the photo. If it came in other colors like blue or gray or had a cup holder on the side it would be perfect!! :)

Several years ago I bought this reflective Bright Ideas backpack for my husband, who rides his bicycle to work in the very early morning hours when it's often still dark (5:20 a.m.), to keep him as safe as possible. The backpack has held up really well, and so have its reflective properties. We love it! I wanted to get one for me in bright yellow, but you no longer carry that color or any color other than black. Also, at the time I wanted to order it, you were temporarily out of stock. So how are my husband and I going to keep our backpacks apart if our backpacks are both black? Yet I have to buy your pack, because no other backpack is this sturdy, this reflective, or this safe! Please carry more colors. Meanwhile, I'm going to bite the bullet and buy it in black, put I wish you offered in reflective monograms by option. I'd pay the extra price to avoid confusion between my backpack and his.

Amazing pack. Good storage options internal and external. This provides great flexibility to wherever you may wander. Pack is extremely stable once you tighten up straps. Has many bells and whistles I didn't even know about. A whistle built in to the chest harness buckle/clip. Walking stick, or trek pole holder on lower left, then another holder to left and lower so you can keep your gear out of your own way when not needed. Great pack for hydration needs. I used an older other brand hydration bladder, and had ice cold water for myself and others all day. The mesh back really keeps you cooler since there is good air-flow/space between yourself and the pack. Very light pack. Superb materials. Very thoughtfully designed pack. I now have two Osprey packs, and plan to get more to replace briefcases, gym bags, camera bags, etc. Go ahead and be adventurous.

I never write customer reviews, but this is the exception. I recently returned from a 6-day bicycle trip to Tuscany (rode from Florence to Siena; stopping along the way in Castellina, Radda and Greve in Chianti and San Gimignano) and since I didn't want to hire a firm to move my baggage, I looked for a suitable backpack. After exploring disappointing options from Ortlieb and a few others, I came across the Osprey Stratos 26 Backpack. By far, this is the *best* purchase I've made in recent memory! It was absolutely perfect for my bicycle trip. I was on a roadbike and after the first day, I never felt that I was wearing this pack. It molded perfectly to my back and it easily held 4 days of light clothing and a pair of shoes. Even tacking the numerous 10km climbs in Tuscany, the pack would remain snug on my back, never shifting and there wasn't anything "sticking" out into the wind. Moreover, on the last day of the ride, it rained in biblical proportions and with the integrated raincover, everything inside the pack was dry including my iPad. If you're looking for an excellent pack (good for bicycling and hiking), this is the one you want to buy; seriously.

I have a bigger osprey for hiking and purchased this one for day walks. If they had of included some straps for a sleeping mat it would have been great for over nighters.

Fits good and does allow your back to stay dry with the space between the pack and frame.

What can I say, you can't go wrong with an "Osprey"! Excellent quality, light well made pack perfect for those spontaneous day hikes in the mountains or to the beach! Great size with enough room to carry extra layers as well as a picnic! All that and it looks cool too! You won't be disappointed, this is my favorite pack yet!

I didn't notice half the features it had til I brought it home and gave it a good looking over. Excellent design. It has so many convenient features, as mentioned in a previous review. This was a Christmas present for my husband who had just started school and needed a nice bag for his books and work laptop. He loved it; needless to say we were both disappointed when the bag tore right along the sides a couple months in making it useless. As it is leather and he didn't load it up more than what the website showed, we were surprised this happened. I contacted the David King company and sent in photos of the tears. The representative was also puzzled when he saw the tears and assured us it must have been a fluke. We received a replacement quickly and so far it has held up longer than the original. I would do business with them again. The bag is really nice, goes with anything (my husband wears clothes from business dress to jeans) and durable. Lots of space inside for his laptop and paperwork or schoolbooks. A nice gift for any guy young or old.

Pros: nice leather, button straps work great.

Cons: no shoulder pad for strap! It hurts when you're carrying a laptop, books, and other things for a long walk. Could use a shoulder pad. Pocket for laptop could be padded just a little bit better.

I would recommend finding something less expensive that is better. It's not a terrible bag and if you can't find anything else then get this-it won't do you wrong but it won't serve your shoulders any justice.
