There are fancy, professional notebook carriers, and there is the functional rugged kind that you know can take a licking and keep on ticking. This is the later kind that can also sub as the former. Yes, I realize there are designer pretty professional looking and quality products too, that men and women have been using for years to travel across the world and back, lugging to their offices. A lot of those can lose some functionality. Some of those designer wares are very nice I am sure, but I actually own a Targus that I dragged around Tokyo with me and to training in Wisconsin and found it worthwhile. Compared to this, my old Targus a little dated though. Kind of difficult to get my aging dell in and out of at TSA checkpoints, and not as comfortable against my back. My older backpack also limits me in terms of size on the notebook although it accepted my oversized battery just fine.

Here's the thing with this backpack, it's rugged. This isn't just an item I would feel comfortable taking with me on a trip to an airport and then a hotel. I could throw this thing in the back of a van, pick-up or car and head out camping and feel comfortable that my items, notebook, tablets, mp3 player, mobile phone, and heck even a place for my water-bottle would be fine. Deluxe is an understatement. This has compartments, mesh pockets, zippers, and padded areas for almost everything here. I am kind of the same way with my backpacks as I am with my purses. I do not want a place to throw everything into a giant hole to dig through it later. I want, I need compartments for everything. This has a place for everything! and more padding than I have ever seen in a backpack.

Let's be honest here, I am a sizable lady, and this fits me well. I could, and have, filled this up and had it sit comfortably on my shoulders with the weight properly distributed. I am, obviously, not going to run a marathon in this thing, but I have lugged it around over, shall we say, not flat surfaces and found it comfortable. And when I said it has a spot for your tablet, I am not kidding. It has a padded sleeve to stick an e-reader or tablet separate from the notebook protected area. There are spots for pens, credit/business cards; it says you can use the zippered pocket for water bottles but smaller ones fit in the mesh pouches too. It's designed really well. With my older Targus bag, you could get a lot into it but good luck getting it out, especially on a plane after you pull it from under the seat and are trying to maneuver around the coach sized area to get a book out or that magazine you crammed in there somehow but is now stuck underneath your purse you had force down in there.

I really love this bag.

There are a couple of cautions though I have to mention. This is a sizable backpack, has to be to get those 17inch notebooks in there, but you have to be more cautious about not overfilling it if you are going to take it on a plane and want to stick it under a seat. It has a nice slimmer top design so if you are paying attention at all, you should be able to manage. The other issue is that the more TSA friendly notebook compartment lacks the Velcro strap I am used to, so if you whip this thing around, silly I know, with it unzipped and open, it's coming out same with anything else you put in the non-zippered compartments, or Velcro pouches.

Lastly, the bottom of the backpack is water-resistant, not your standard affair in many backpacks and fairly strong against rips so far. The zippers feel hefty and aren't hard to work or feel likely to snag or get stuck. It's made in China, but it is clearly a quality product. The anti-shock pad at the bottom, it's labeled, feels pretty thick and likely to absorb some impact, say if you drop it suddenly or set it down too quickly. You can also fold it upward if you want to or need to make your backpack thinner.

Finally for business purposes, it looks nice, has a location to hold your files to keep them from getting folded or otherwise damaged and pretty much unisex with is all black design. Whether you are traveling for business or just jamming your car for a family/friend trip, this would make life just a little easier for traveling and protecting those electronics you spent so much buying so don't skimp on padding.

This is a huge bag that is well constructed. The bottom is a leather material and allows the bag to stand up by itself (more or less). The stitching appears to be good quality and pockets are plentiful.

Unfortunately, I had to return it since my Asus Republic of Gamers series 17.3" G74SX-XN1 "notebook" doesn't fit in the padded laptop area. It's about an inch too narrow to account for the additional heat exchanger the Asus notebook has sticking out of it's back. Which is too bad, because i really like the look and feel of this bag.

Going to try the Targus Drifter II to see if it fits in there...

I got the Targus Demolition Backpack to replace my old one, and what a great difference it makes. It's the perfect everyday backpack for a geek who can't leave home without a few gadgets. Yes, I tried to use only one device, but I can't help myself, I must have my stuff, because I use each for different tasks.

It has plenty of pockets and dedicated compartments for organizing one's value possessions. No more rummage into a backpack at the most inconvenient times.

The two front compartments in this backpack are a great plus. One is scratch-resistant and padded to facilitate the pulling or storage of a Smartphone and/or a Kindle, or any other gadget one needs handy. And the other, comes with slots to put in an ID and debit cards for secure storage, but quickly access.

So in the end, I'm carrying inside of it my Smartphone, my netbook, my Targus slim lap desk, an iPad inside an iMainGo XP portable speaker case, a mouse, a portable rechargeable battery pack, USB flash drives, and if I'm traveling with my kid, her iPad will join all of these gadgets. And of course, the corresponding chargers for every device.

The Targus Demolition Backpack will work great as a traveling bag too. When the inner lower panel is set, makes it more roomy, and it can accommodate clothes for a weekend and some personal toiletries. I'm taking it with me the next time I travel to New York to visit my family. It might be the only bag I ever need.

Having two water bottles holders is awesome, because when I travel with my daughter, I must hold her bottle too. By the way, behinds the holders, there is a zippered compartment to storage an small umbrella or anything else.

Besides all of the above, another of my favorite feature is the padded shoulder straps that joined with the waist buckles facilitates carrying any load one puts inside.

I thought this bag was alright when I got it (I really like the side pockets, they are massive) but I have only been using it for about a month and already the seams are ripping at both shoulder straps and the carrying handle. I am not overloading it at all and carried everything I am carrying now plus an extra laptop and all its accessories in another laptop backpack for the last four years. I need it to hold out for one more trip and then it looks like I will be trying to return this and buying something else. I will not be buying another one of these.

Some of you are probably smarter than I am and looked at the measurements on this bag and thought "That's pretty big." I didn't really take those into consideration--and have found this thing to be enormous.

However, you can see the pockets and sizes on the product description. I'll say this: I found all to be as advertised. Pockets everywhere, large sleeve in the back for a laptop, slightly sleeve for a tablet. I was able to load in: laptop, Kindle Fire, Kindle, Franklin Planner with the whole year's calendar, a 3-inch 3-ring binder full to capacity, 4 other hardcover books, and all the pens, pencils, highlighters, and note cards I needed for a graduate school project.

Now, how about its sturdiness? I cannot spare a laptop to learn if the bag has good padding, but I can give you the "egg carton test" results: when dropped straight down from my back to the floor, no eggs were damaged. When dropped on the couch and allowed to roll to the floor, no eggs were damaged. When it hit the ground on the curb, a few eggs were cracked.

So, my conclusion is that the normal tosses and hard-set-downs this bag will get will not damage the laptop in it.

In my effort to reduce animal testing, I have not seen whether I can put all three of my cats inside, but I believe they would all fit. Whether the zipper would hold under those conditions remains untested.

I can see where the reviewer that mentioned the grab handle rubbing against your neck could have that problem--if you look at the product picture, that loop sticking up? That's flattened down and is right between the shoulder straps. It doesn't bother me, but it could bother you.

Beyond that, if you need to carry a week's worth of supplies plus a laptop, this bag is worth the look.

Someone really thought of everything with this backpack. The quality is in the details. The canvas-type fabric is thick and the color is a rich, deep dye. Heavy zippers with rubber tabs for ease of opening are perfect for small hands to open this backpack by themselves. Toddlers are known for destruction and I can honestly say this backpack will stand up well. The base has double-stitching as does the water bottle holder and along the zippered edges. All along the edge of the backpack are stamped jousters! I didn't notice this in the provide photograph. It really connects the design on the front of the backpack together. The front zipper flap opens to a nicely organized set of pockets for pencils, money, notes, etc. There is a large, white label to mark your child's name, address and phone number. Finally, soft shoulder pads help a child want to carry it themselves. The size of the backpack is just right. I got this backpack at least a year ago, and it's been great. My then 4 year old son wore it to the Renaissance festival, various fall festivals, and into the city to carry snacks and water. It's bright, so he was easily visible in a sea of people. It's comfortable, so he didn't mind wearing it, even now when he's carrying homework, lunch, water while he walks the half-mile to school. It still looks clean, and it doesn't have any holes. It's a good size-not as small as some little kid backpacks, but not as large as the big kid backpacks. It can hold a normal-sized folder. And he's never asked for a different backpack!

...but we did use it as an unintended carry-all recently for random things here and there, picked up while out shopping. The bag holds a ton! The straps are very comfortable too while carrying a bunch of stuff, can imagine it won't be so bad for a little 4-year-old preschooler that will only carry a notebook and maybe one or two other small things. The side pocket fit a big size water bottle without a problem. Bag seems truly well made. Now, its true test will come once the kid starts school, only then we'll know how it will truly hold up. But for now, we're really liking it. Getting the lunch bag to go with as well. We do have the matching water bottle, but it's a joke. Pass on it and get something better.

I bought this bag to accommodate a laptop computer and books, portfolio, etc., for an adjunct teaching job on a campus where I don't have a private office and have classes in different buildings. I wanted something that would be distinctive and attractive, but stand out from the students' backpacks & messenger bags.

This bag is quite roomy -I can load it up with laptop with power converter & mouse, portfolio stuffed full of papers, and still fit in a couple of thick textbooks and a water bottle in the main compartment. The padded pocket in the main compartment accommodates my Toshiba Satellite (15.4" screen) easily and has a strap with velcro closure to keep it in place. The main compartment zips closed on top, and the flap fastens over it. This is a nice feature, because you don't risk spilling the contents of the main compartment if the bag falls over while the flap is unfastened.

On the back of the bag is a zip-top sleeve useful for slipping in a few folders or papers with easy access when the front flap is fastened. On the front of the bag is a large, flat zipped compartment, with storage area for pens, note cards, etc.; this is covered when the flap is closed. There is also a zipped compartment in the outside of the flap. The flap secures with two adjustable-length web straps with plastic latches, each of which could easily be unlatched with one hand.

On one end of the bag is a tall narrow pocket with a top flap, which can hold a phone (I use it to store dry-erase markers); on the other end is a mesh pocket that might be intended for a water bottle, but it is too narrow for most -it might accommodate one of those tall, narrow energy drinks, but is too slim for soda can. I use it to keep a lanyard on which I carry classroom keys, because I can see through the mesh and verify at a glance that I've got my keys. The shoulder strap is a good length, made of wide webbing, but unpadded; it would probably get uncomfortable if carrying the bag fully loaded, so I bought a fleecy pad (the sort designed for auto seat shoulder belts) and find it quite comfortable to carry.

Overall, I think this bag is an excellent value. The fabric is tough but not heavy, and the print is quite bright and cheery. I think it should hold up quite well to frequent use. I've bought other bags that looked sturdier, but they were so heavy and ugly that they didn't see much use. I'm glad to have something that is perky and distinctive AND roomy and well-organized.

So far, it's the best bag I've had. Not only is it very attractive, inside and out, but it's got a laptop compartment in addition to a main compartment that can fit my binder and textbooks, and another pocket that can fit a shorter and thicker book or two, or snacks or whatever you want. All the sections are really spacious. I can carry a big bag of veggies in it and it doesn't squish them bug hugs them softly (as long as you don't have other things in it). If I carried the same things in my other bag it would kill my shoulder but this bag makes cushions the weight a lot. It has a pocket on the front flap, and in the back of the bag that can carry papers and whatnot, and it has a pocket on the inside of the front compartment (the one I mentioned you can carry short, thick books in) and little pockets for erasers and pencils/pens. There's also a pocket on the side of the bag for little things and a mesh bottle holder although the other reviewer is right. It's not big enough for a water bottle... but maybe if you ever have something long and relatively thin to carry it can go in there. It's got a handy handle on the top and a velcro strap to secure your laptop and clips to hold the flap down even though there are zippers on both compartments. Anyways, it a really great and really large bag. My laptop is 15.6" long and fits in it very nicely.

Higher Ground 13" Shuttle 2.1

Made from excellent materials, this looks and feels like a high quality case. Not a LOT of room for accessories. I was basically looking for something to keep my Macbook protected and hold a few small items (like mouse, external drive, and charger) there's not room for much else. I keep it in the case while I use it and it functions as a great platform on my lap. Very satisfied 4 stars because I would have given the front pocket a wee bit more room to expand. Overall, I love it!

This case is perfect for my 13" Mac Book Pro. It is light-weight and versatile in ways to carry. I especially like the fact that I can carry my computer vertically so that it is easier to navigate in crowded places. The straps holding the computer are secure, and I never have to take the computer out of the case to use it--good on airplanes. The four padded feet at the bottom help to reduce heat, even though this computer does not get as hot as former products. It also has a pocket to store my accessories. The Higher Ground Shuttle case (esp. in unobtrusive black) is one of my best purchases.

super cheap in comparison to other sites as well as the manufacturers site! there is no brand label on the front pouch, just the brand logo which is an orange zigzag and does not stand out very much. the sleeve located at the top of the pictured case is actually opposite the pouch. The pouch on the front does not have a flap and has a zipper :) overall, its the one i wanted! extremely good price!

Authentic Pigment Cotton Canvas Strap Bag. 1908

Considering the price of this bag, I was a bit iffy. It seemed a bit cheap for something that would be holding my heavy textbooks and the worst thing that could happen would be for it to split while I'm walking around campus.

I've owned one for about 3months now and I'm considering getting another in a different color.

It's got an adjustable shoulder strap. It doesn't really have a padded strap like some bags, but I've never found that it dug into me like some bags do, even when I'm carrying my heaviest books.

It's a decent size. I usually just carry one book, binder, some pencils and a umbrella in it, but if I wanted to it could easily hold another book or two. I really only use the one giant bag portion but I believe it also has a smaller zipper portion perfect for wallets, mp3 players or pencils, as well as an outer pouch or two. The pain flap is magnetic buttoned closed but it stays shut.

It's durable. I haven't seen any holes or tears yet after 3 months of constant use daily. I'd feel comfortable putting my laptop in it if I wanted to.

It come in various colors. I got a brown one but there are plenty of colors to choose from, and for the price you could get two different ones for the price of a bag somewhere else.

Really I have yet to have a problem. It is exactly what I needed for college. I really am not a fan of backpacks at all. These are perfectly acceptable for guys and girls. I say buy it! I know I'm getting another one for sure!

My bag just arrived today. I bought mine in the color black. I couldn't believe the amount of space inside this bag! The soft material is very lightweight which keeps the shoulder strap from tugging on my shoulder (Unlike my old messenger bag which was a thicker sturdy material but was really heavy on the shoulder, especially when carrying contents inside). The downside of this bag being lightweight material is that it doesn't stand up on it's own when you put it down. You have to lean it against something or lay it down. But who cares. It has two zipper compartments inside, one small and the other large. Also, it has slim cellphone/cigarette pockets ON BOTH ENDS OF THE BAG. Now that's cool. Overall, I'm happy with it.

in some ways I love this bag, and in other ways....I quite DISlike this bag.

Why I love it: The size is nice, it fits my school books and (mostly) fits my 17" laptop along with those necessary books. The strap for holding the bag is nice and soft, it doesn't require an extra pad in order to keep it comfortable while toting it around. The magnetic buttons to keep it shut are also quite useful and very nice.

The reasons I dislike it: While carrying it I've noticed that one of the metal clasps that connects the bag and the strap has a tendency to shift, this isn't detrimental to the bag yet so it's generally only a minor annoyance to me. The bag while able to fit my 17" laptop also however leaves a slight bit exposed to air, this is only problematic while it is raining and I have to take measures to ensure my laptop isn't exposed to the water. Also this bag should NOT be washed in a washing machine, I did so since mine is black and DOES come needs cleaning, and unfortunately got many loose threads around the bag's closing flap, I've since had to trim these excess threads and simply HOPE it doesn't cause utter failure of the bags structure.

Overall, I DO like this bag, the feel is nice, but for my heavy-duty needs I probably should have purchased another. If your needs are light and you don't have a need to wash this bag in a washing machine, I would definetly recommend this bag. However if you're a student like me with a need to carry a large load, especially a rather large electronic device, I would recommend another bag for use.

Again I want to emphasize: I DO like this bag, it's comfortable and useful.

But for heavy duty use, please browse all your options (and reviews) thoroughly.

Belkin 15.4" Quilted Laptop Carry Case

This case is great for storing a laptop. However, the strap could be more secure. The clasps used to attach it to the case can open without warning. I had mine on my shoulder, when all of a sudden, my laptop hit the pavement...now there's a crack in my screen and dent on the corner where it hit. Not the best case for long-term use...really disappointing.

When I first received this bag I was ecstatic-super light, padded but slim, and understated. However, after using for only 2 weeks the strap completely broke! As another reviewer mentioned, the strap is pretty flimsy. The stitching keeping the loop together around the clasp was really poorly done and while my macbook pro is heavier than other laptops, it's not enough so to rip the stitches out. I hope this was just a malfunction with my bag because otherwise it was great!

Tumi Luggage Alpha Long Wheeled Garment Bag

Bought several pieces of Tumi luggage several years ago, had many problems zippers failing off, handles ripping, pegs on sides that you set the bags down on cracked off. Called Tumi ALL issues were wear and tear noting covered by the warranty. Word to the wise do not spend the money on these over priced bags.

The bag is great for organzing all your stuff while traveling. Problem-if you pack it to the limit you will be over 50lb limit--the first time I used this bag I was 9lbs over --OMG. Also after just one trip some of the zippers have paint flicked off and one had the zipper pull broken. Very minor things-come on this is a suit case... but I feel like paid a lot for this suit case and I want to figure out how to keep it looking good longer than my traditional suit case. Overall it is still a Tumi and about as attractive as a suit case can get.

Voyager Laptop Backpack 17.3 Blk

I had one of these for 7 years. It stood up to a lot of abuse. It's great for traveling and school. It can hold 4-5 days worth of cloths, my lap top and other supplies without an issue. It got me through high school, undergrad and my masters degree. It was still functioning well but showing its age so I just bought another identical one.

They consider everything,

The only drawback could be its a little big and you can use 21" laptops in it If there were some ! But I sometimes use it for shopping with my urban car!

I know you won't regret buying it.

I read a couple of reviews of this laptop backpack and reread them and I was decided. The whole thing is clever and as a reviewer said it doesn't call much attention to itself so it's not a magnet for thieves. I've been using a well made laptop backpack that came with a Dell but it has alot of missing features that make traveling difficult. I haven't used this Targus while traveling yet but will write something else when I do.

I've had numerous bags until i found this one. It is amazingly designed. Just like another commenter I've had it throughout undergrad and into medschool. It's been reliable for work and school, but also for trudging through blizzards, rainstorms, beach volleyball tournaments, hiking to the peak of tropical volcanoes, and everything in between.

If you spend 100$ on this backpack, you will definitely have it pay for itself.

Laptop / Macbook Pro Sleeve Neoprene Case Bag with Hidden Handle handbag for 12-Inch, 13-Inch, 13.3

It's a cute laptop sleeve but has one major flaw that disappointed me! The hidden handle was sewn inside the bag so when you want to close the zipper you cannot have the handle out except you pull the handles out and end closing the zipper just before the handles on both sides which leaves the bag open! Not cool..

Case is exactly as described. Keeps my Mac Book Pro protected in all the chaos of my school, work, and family life. The only thing I would have preferred is an inside flap to keep my USB cord from floating around against the metal clamshell (MBP shell). For $20, I would definitely buy again if I had more MBP's.
